Shredded Pork Sautéed with Jalapeño / 農家小炒肉

I ordered takeout from this restaurant and found a whole cockroach in my food after I had already eaten about half of it. The cockroach was completely covered in oil and sauce, making it look like it had been mixed in with the food. It was absolutely disgusting. I honestly cannot remember a more revolting dining experience. I called the restaurant immediately. At first, I was only offered a replacement meal. After I returned to the restaurant and requested a refund, they refunded the full amount of my order. That's it. No sorry no other things, just rushed me out the door. It felt like they were afraid I would tell other customers that there was a cockroach in my food. What upset me even more was being told that the building is old, so having cockroaches is unavoidable. Finding a whole cockroach in prepared food is not normal, and it is not something customers should be expected to accept. I had already eaten about half of the meal before discovering it. A refund only brought me back to where I started. It does not change what happened. I am posting the photos so others can see for themselves. Please be careful.

lunch deals are perfect for a quick, inexpensive bite in the city. they have an extensive dinner menu too

    重庆毛血旺

Walked in on a Sat afternoon 1230p for lunch. Not crowded and we were seated immediately. The 酸菜鱼was tangy and flavorful, hits the spot! The 毛血旺, though with lots of ingredients, was a bit bland and could be spicier, will skip. Will definitely come back to try other dishes.

The whole fish was a spectacle in all its glory. Not crazy spicy or numbing but full of flavor. Required a bit of patience to let it fully cook on the grill tray, but that just meant more time to enjoy the other dishes. I had never even heard of egg white tofu before, but it was like a soft umami bomb. Great spot in Chinatown for big groups, as there are several large tables as well as private rooms upstairs. 3.9 on google and 3.5 on Yelp, if you know you know

It was good, one of the few places open late in the area. Kind of a small portion for pork and string bean but the size of combo fried rice was good. Both good flavor. I would go again, mainly cuz open late..

Hunan House was a really nice surprise as it was one of the few restaurants that happened to be open after 7pm during a weeknight evening. I thought there would be way more restaurants in the area that would honor my spicy noodle craving, then we found this spot. My friend and I walked into this restaurant and it was pretty loud lol. Once we were seated, we noticed the loud was coming from a middle table of likely friends or old pals, enjoying a good meal and lots of alcohol because they were again...loud! There were other customers at other tables, too, but we just did our best to just focus on our mission for noodles. So this is a spicy-themed Chinese restaurant. Everything here is made spicy, unless you ask for something less spicy. Chili peppers are stamped onto every dish here...and the menu is pretty huge! I had a hard time deciding what to get, but we decided to get the Sliced Spicy Potatoes, the Spicy Chili Chicken, and a clear Spicy Glass Peanut Noodle Soup. Every dish was very flavorful and extra spicy...ran out of drinking solution (the hot tea) after being numbed by the overall spiciness of it all. My favorite was the spicy potatoes and the chili chicken. It was about $27 or so per person for 3 dishes, which was pretty decent, and we had enough to take home. It was definitely a very good meal. Only thing here is the service is quite lacking...they don't refill the teapot, which is odd, but we also didn't ask, but normally it's a given service. The host never came by other than taking our order, dropping off our dishes, and then handling the check...but we had to ask them for things. So that kinda wasn't good for us. But, still glad to have found this place. Definitely would come back if I've got a spicy craving!

This is located in Chinatown. Not squeeky clean but not disgusting either. Got to gos here at two separate times. In June 2024, I got barbeque squid which was good. In March 2025, I got the combination fried rice. It did not have a lot of ingredients and was not as flavorful as one would expect. At both times, I sat at one of the tables near the entrance; one could smell cigarette smoke coming from the outside. Service was quick and nice. Though very affordable, given the experience at two different times, would give it a 3/5 and would likely not come back anymore.

This place IS open - and they're doing pretty good with their dishes. Wonton soup was pretty darn good...really good broth flavor. Pork spare ribs were really good too. Cooked nice and that typical Asian rib flavor you want. Beef noodle: It was ok...not bad by any means...just didn't have a great flavor. The inside of the place was cool...and that newer contemporary look and feel.

The food was very tasteful, quick service- we ordered and our food came out shortly, friend staff. We would go back.

This place is truly disappointing. Avoid at all costs. The servers ignore requests for help. All the food arrived 1-hour after the waitress took our order (and only after we asked about food status...seems like the order was overlooked). Fish entree arrived raw and translucent. Chow fun almost tasteless with bean sprouts fully opaque and essentially raw. They force a 15% tip on the bill, and likely because service is so poor.

Toothpick Tooth Pick Lamb / 牙籤羊肉粒

One of the best Chinese food in Chinatown. We stayed at the Hilton in financial district and was looking for a place to have dinner, and was attracted by all the different Chinese dishes (both Cantonese and Sichuan) shown in their menu. The restaurant wasn't fancy looking, just like an average restaurant with red antique decor, but their food was excellent. I had the best tasting Cantonese roasted duck that flavorful but not overly salty and crispy delicious skin. They weee sold out of their spicy lamb chops, but the server suggested their toothpick lamb which was excellent. The restaurant doesn't offer live seafood in tanks, but will cook them for you if you bring them in. They do offer seafood dishes, just not live off the tanks. Their wine corkage fee is also the lowest I've paid (under $10).

I'm always hunting for spots like this because I have a weakness for those over-the-top, Instagram-worthy desserts that look like diabetes in a dish. Like most places in this genre, A Buttercup is small, modern, and minimalist with limited seating. If you plan to go, aim for off-hours unless you enjoy waiting in line for sugar. The decor is cute and trendy, perfect for photos if that's part of your dessert ritual. As they say, "you eat with your eyes first," and when it comes to presentation, this place definitely gets an A+. The desserts look stunning and set high expectations. Unfortunately, that's where things started to crumble. It's like going to see your favorite artist live. You've watched the videos, memorized the songs, and paid for the experience. But instead of the electric performance you imagined, you get someone lip-syncing and barely connecting with the crowd. That was this place in dessert form. We ordered the Mango Bingsoo on our first visit, and when it arrived, we were surprised by how small the portion was. The guy next to us even looked over and said, "Whatever that is, I'm getting that next time." He shouldn't have. The Bingsoo looked great but was bland, and the "snow" was more chunky ice than soft shave. The Thai Tea Roti was also not what I expected. It came with Thai tea ice cream and sauce alongside a roti that was fried to a crunch. Interesting idea, just not the best execution. The sauce and ice cream needed a stronger Thai tea flavor to balance the crispy roti, and the flavors never quite came together. Overall, A Buttercup nails the aesthetics but misses the flavor. If you're here for the photos, you'll be happy. If you're here for the taste, you'll leave with a full camera roll and an unsatisfied sweet tooth.

The treats were tasty, but on the pricier side. I believe the pricing reflects the quality of the chocolate used in the products, so to me, the pricing is justified. Despite not being super traditional, I still really enjoyed the treat. With the chocolate chip cookie, I loved the giant chunks of semi-sweet dark chocolate embedded within it. I appreciate that the cookie itself wasn't overly sweet. With most cookies, I usually can only tolerate having a few bites, or need to have a coffee in hand to enjoy it, but I didn't feel like that was the case here: both treats were delicious. The lychee black tea was INCREDIBLE, strong, strong tea and fruit flavor, perfectly creamy, and not too sweet. The more memorable of the two, however, was definitely Auntie Kendra. It was a vanilla base with salty plum juice, passion fruit, and preserved lemon peel. The delicate vanilla, the lemon aroma without the sour tang, the floral, exotic passion fruit, and the unexpected punch of salt and earthiness from the plum juice, this is a WHOPPER of a flavor. Every bite allowed me a new appreciation of the layers of flavors in this scoop. While a bit pricy, Garden creamery is on par with the other local ice cream spots in SF and well, the flavors and my enjoyment of them speak for themselves. I will definitely be making more trips out here to try their other flavors!

Kiss of Matcha is a dessert café centered around matcha-based drinks and Japanese-inspired sweets…read more We walked into a cozy, compact space with a focus on matcha flavors, offering everything from soft serve and parfaits to lattes, hojicha drinks, and small desserts. The concept works well for anyone looking for a place that treats matcha as the main ingredient rather than just adding it as a trendy flavor, and the energy of the shop stays calm and inviting, making it a good spot for a focused dessert stop. The biggest highlight is the matcha soft serve, which has a stronger tea flavor compared to many sweeter matcha desserts. We ordered a cup and found the flavor leaning slightly earthy and bitter, giving it a more authentic matcha profile while still staying creamy and approachable. The Kiss of Matcha Parfait is another standout, combining different textures with matcha, toppings, and dessert elements that make it feel more complete than a simple scoop. The layers of the parfait were well composed, with the matcha soft serve, mochi, and crunchy elements coming together in a way that kept each bite interesting. The hojicha options are also worth trying if you prefer a roasted tea flavor that is smoother and less intense, and the hojicha soft serve offered a warm, toasted note that contrasted nicely with the brighter matcha. The menu has a nice mix of drinks and desserts, with items like croffles, mochi, and dango adding more variety beyond the usual matcha latte. The croffle is a good pairing with the drinks since the crisp texture works well with the richer flavors, and we found it held up well against the cream and toppings. There are also non-matcha options like vanilla soft serve, which makes it easier to visit with a group where everyone has different preferences, and the variety across the menu gives you room to explore beyond the matcha offerings. The space is smaller, so it feels more like a quick dessert stop rather than a place to spend hours. Seating is limited, but the cozy decoration and outdoor seating options make it a comfortable spot to enjoy your order when space is available. The indoor area is thoughtfully arranged, and the outdoor seating adds a nice option for warmer days. Service can vary depending on how busy it gets, but the overall experience is centered more around the quality of the desserts, and the staff are friendly and efficient when handling the flow of orders. Kiss of Matcha is a strong choice for matcha lovers looking for desserts with a deeper tea flavor. The combination of quality matcha, creative dessert options, and a cozy atmosphere makes it a spot worth returning to, especially if you enjoy trying different matcha creations. The balance of authentic flavors, thoughtful presentation, and a relaxed environment makes it a destination for a more intentional matcha experience.

All of their flavors sounded good, and I wish I could sample all of them. I ended up going with the Valencia in a regular size so I could avoid decision anxiety; this was a preset bowl of horchata shaved ice with different toppings that was exactly what I was craving. My friend got the other preset option, Cereal Killer, which tasted just like fruity pebbles ice cream as promised. It looks like a lot when first presented to you (like so high and so fluffy), but as you eat it, the toppings start making the ice sink lol. A more manageable portion size after that :) Their shop is small with not much waiting room besides a bench against the window, and I think most people go to their outside tables to eat their shaved ice. Not super ideal for cold windy evenings like when we went, and we huddled in my car to finish them. Definitely mind any shaved ice that might topple over the edge when you first dive in since they pack it real tight. Worth your moola!
