I really don't understand how this is the top rated restaurant on almost every Dallas love list. The space is so cramped and dark, extremely loud, and claustrophobic. The food is fine but nothing to write home about, and the waitstaff is always rude. Never in my entire life have I tasted a burger that literally melted in my mouth. *inserts drool emoji* seriously you guys... if you're looking for the perfect burger this is it. My friends and I were looking forward to having a good time in a very special place but we instead got nailed by smoke in our faces on the patio. Which is against the Dallas city code of policies. The burger was the only thing giving a 2 star review. The service was also excellent so I gave this place a 3 out of 5 stars. Please don't let people smoke within 25 feet of the doors. Then when we asked to order later, before we can finish order the waitress repeated a rehearsed line about how she was no longer comfortable serving us alcohol. The outside is very unassuming, but inside is a beautifully done space with low lighting and candle light throughout to set a very nice and intimate vibe. It isn't a large space, but I appreciate that not too many people are able to inside at one time because social distancing lol. I wish I remembered our bartender's name because she was absolutely incredible! She made great recommendations both on and off the menu. I started off with a "You're doing great sweetie" cocktail and he had an Old Fashion, both were AMAZING. She also made other a few other drinks for us based on what we liked. We surprised our friend with a visit to Bowen House for a cocktail class to celebrate her birthday. We all ended up being surprised! The atmosphere was phenomenal and far exceeded our expectations. We assumed we'd sit at the bar and learn how to make a couple of cocktails, but we were wrong. We had a private room in the back, and I won't spoil it for you by giving too many details, but just know it's really cool! For food, we ordered the tuna tacos and a charcuterie board, and both were fantastic. All that said, I can't stress enough that our bartender, Jorge was absolutely the best aspect of the entire experience! He was kind, attentive, funny, and remarkably skilled in his craft! This was my favorite stop on a recent weekend trip to Dallas. It is an awesome place to have a drink and get a bite to eat! Walking up the the Bowen House you wouldn't think it's a bar and restaurant. It's a little old historic house. Once you get closer you notice the tables outside and when you step through the door you are meet by a great little bar area! I can't remember her name, but our bartender was so nice and knowledgeable. She was willing to take the time to help my wife and I find what we would like and even make off menu drinks for us! My wife and I had two drinks each. I had a Jack Rose and an Boulevardier. My wife had two off menu drinks. All four of them were delicious! We also split a delicious burger. Everything about Bowen House was absolutely outstanding! Came here with a group of friends mostly from out of town and had a lovely night on the patio. The inside ambiance is also fantastic. The drinks and food were a complete 15/10. Even better was our waiter who did such a great job of recommending drinks for each person at our table. I personally love mezcal and after I really enjoyed one drink on the menu he gave me recommendations of similar but different off menu drinks that were even better. This is a great place in Dallas to catch up with an old friend or bring a date. It isn't a large place so I would recommend reservations. They have indoor and outdoor seating with the outdoor area having heaters. The inside is dimly lit with a candle on each table. Very nice vibe. They had music but it wasn't too loud where you couldn't hear the person sitting directly in front of you. The menu is heavy on the meat but as a vegetarian, I still very much enjoyed what I got- the Brie with blueberry compote and bread. My goodness, the Brie was crusted and warm and the compote on the side was the perfect addition. The bread also wasn't too hard and not too soft either. I had the most fun here because the server made me her own drink that wasn't on the menu. She made it up for me on the spot because I told her kind of what I was looking for....I was really impressed! I'm still kicking myself because I don't remember all the ingredients she said she put in it other than tequila, lemon, white chocolate liquor, and something else. Blah! But how awesome is that for your server to make up something for you when you aren't feeling the drink menu. I just loved that. Check this place out! You'll have a nice time. read more

Stumbled upon Bowen House on yelp. I was simply looking for a place in Uptown for a late dinner that wasn't four dollar-sign ($$$$) expensive, as most of the other places in the area close at 9pm, or are super fancy. And as the five-star review would suggest, I am so glad we found it! I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is visiting Dallas in the future. Great cocktails (in the $13-$15 range) and great range of food (fancy and not-fancy) We were able to get a last min reservation at around 8:30pm on Sunday on their outdoor patio -- plenty of heaters to stay warm. Stopped by this spot for a happy hour and I must say it does not disappoint. It's trucked off a side street off McKinnney Ave. the only thing is lack of parking but let's be honest. It's uptown, they have valet or you can take a scooter or Uber there. So all in all this is not really an issue. When you walk in the first thing that comes to mind is a speak easy. They have leather chairs and booths around the wall and a great selection of liquor as well. They even have a back room behind the bathrooms that can fit a small number of people with its own bar! As far of the drinks they were superb. They have a number of craft cocktails which they make right there. And more butters and other things than I can count. The old fashioned and Joan Collins are outstanding. Most happy hour drinks are $5 -$7 which is also nice on the wallet. Oh and if your looking for a bite to eat the deviled eggs are amazing!!!
