I like that this bar is a bit off the main streets in Uptown. It's a very chill, intimate lounge, and make awesome craft cocktails. I really like how it's lit enough to see everything but dim to set the relaxed tone and is not a large venue. Bartenders are attentive and friendly. I like the Moscow mules. This place can be great for dates, group of friends or happy hour. It's definitely laid back and I am looking forward to coming back. read more

The Bowen House is the cocktail version of its beer-loving neighbor, The Gingerman. The bar is basically an entire first floor of a renovated, historic house that is decorated to look like a Restoration Hardware showroom. There is a long, semi-circle bar in the middle of the room with some smaller tables nearby -- in addition to a handful of tables on the front patio. The bartenders seemed to have a deep knowledge of cocktails and my wife loved her French 75 drink with a freshly-cut lemon twist. This place seems like a fun spot for a pre-dinner cocktail on a night out in Uptown. read more

I was in Dallas for a work trip and the Bowen House was suggested to me by a waitress. I went to the bar and got a couple aviations. The bartenders were very kind and accommodating. The inside decor was beautiful. It is a dark bar with some great music. There is bar seating and tables inside the bar as well. A small and quaint place with a good ambiance. I came here for a friends' going away party and I probably wouldn't have known it existed otherwise. It was a pretty warm texas afternoon and the place was having some A/C issues but I give them four stars anyway due to impeccable service. The owner really took charge of the situation and tried to make everyone happy by trying doors open, doors closed and even gave us a complimentary bottle of wine as a thanks for staying. I also ordered another drink from the bartender, a vodka gimlet. This particular drink can be made a few ways and the bartender even offered some background and history on the drink! Craft drinks, appetizers and a chill young professional environment.... I enjoyed my first experience on a crisp Thursday evening. The servers/hosts were more than welcoming and attentive. There were no tables at first to sit but enjoyed the time that we waited. The food came out in a normal time length. I honestly cannot remember the names of all the dishes. Fried brie came out as a good sized serving and a spread to compliment it - not disappointed at all. Chips w a sharp cheese (cannot remember) was delish. You would think the cheese would make the chips soggy but they were crispy and went well with red wine. The other dish was something w meat and bruschetta bread and it was soooo good. I've had good experiences here in the past (and am happy to update my review later), but this last time I ordered drinks and a different bartender came up to take care of our tab. We went outside to enjoy our drinks in the patio and the sunny day. We went back to leave our glassware at the bar and proceeded to leave for dinner. The bartender who served our drinks came chasing after us, which was an embarrassing experience and probably made other guests think we tried to leave without paying. Before the guy reached us the other bartender yelled at him to go back. The bartender who was running didn't apologize. I'm sure I'll be back, but these kind of situations deserve to be noted especially for management to improve customer experience. Overall a good place for a quick date and/or happy hour. read more

I love this place. It feels like your in someone's living room with a bar and amazing food. I guess you kind of are or were:). They have happy hour everyday from 4-7 and the perfect mix of old school drinks. I like the menu because it's small and to the point and has the best of everything. The bartenders are super cool and friendly. The valet parking is a little overpriced at 7$ but I guess you're paying to visit a little bit of history in uptown. Im not sure if it's the drinks talking, but I loved this place. Very intimate with mood lighting, reasonable music volume, and wait until you see the décor. The atmosphere is 50% of any experience, for me, and this place has it. It's true, there is no cocktail menu. They will likely ask a few preferential questions to gauge your taste, and work from there. You're looking about $8-10 a drink, and the same for appetizer/finger food, which is OK. My husband and I went here tonight and were very impressed! The food: we ordered the tuna tacos and spaghetti squash with chicken. I assumed with the lower prices, that the portions would be small but they were not! We both loved our meals, and felt like they were perfectly portioned. The service was very attentive and friendly. We had what seemed like each waiter/waitress check in on us throughout our meal. Lastly, the ambience was very cool-- set in an old house with dim lighting. We had wines, so didn't try the signature cocktails, but were both very happy with the options. Would highly recommend this spot! read more

The Bowen House is exactly the sort of Dallas spot I hope to find on my regular work visits from Miami. The house itself is a gorgeous victorian backdrop for a bespoke evening. The interior is no less charming with a sophisticated yet inviting fireside bar and dining area. The back bar provides a bit less formality with some added intimacy. The front bar is elegant and open with beautiful light fixtures across the room from the fireplace. I've only been here for happy hour and drinks, but the snacks I've tried warrant a full on chance with dinner. The beer selection is small, but there are some unique offerings. Cocktails were good, not amazing. The menu appears to be fairly traditional with some bold creations. Bowen House is a high quality experience from start to finish in an absolutely gorgeos space.This is my favorite Dallas HH spot and I will definitely be back for it and a proper meal next time my wife joins me here. I found free street parking nearby both times I visited without too much difficulty. On my first visit they were not accepting credit cards, which is a major yikes, but I imagine this was a freak occurence. read more

Definitely a great cocktail staff at this venue slightly off the main path. I like the venue which is a house that has been upgraded to a cocktail bar and restaurant. The chair height to bar height was a little uncomfortable. The staff knew what they were doing and gave me some great suggestions. I also tried the Blue Cheese Potato Chips which were amazing.
