Bowery day spa exceeded my expectations tremendously. First, it's very clean and beautifully decorated. Not necessary for me, but still appreciated. My masseuse Andy was respectful and got to business on my super stressed shoulders and tight back. He didn't rush and was diligent on working out the sore spots. 55 bucks for an hour was well worth it, next time I will come for 90 mins just because it was that addicting! They offer so many price combos and also head and neck massages you can have quickly while sitting clothed in a chair. Perfect way to spend my day off. I really wanted to support this small business, but unfortunately my experience was not what I expected. I spent over $100, and while the price itself is reasonable, it's not acceptable to leave feeling this way. The massage was not relaxing--the pressure was extremely aggressive, and there was talking in the hallway throughout the session. During the entire massage, my head was being pressed into the table, which directly caused visible bruising along my forehead/hairline. I felt unusually sore afterward, more than what I would consider normal post-massage soreness. There were little to no check-ins about pressure or comfort during the service. This was my first time here and I've been to a couple different ones in the area. I had Lucy (I may have her name wrong) and she did a fantastic job. I got the 60 mins massage and she gave me a head to toe massage. She did a dry massage for a few minutes for the whole body, then went in with the oil massage and wrapped it up with some hot stone. But Mia at Bowery Day Spa totally understood the assignment!
