I came here with a friend for dinner and we had a less favorable experience with the service here. Overall, the food was pretty mediocre compared to other Indian places I've been to. Chicken biryani- we asked for this dish to not be spicy and it came out way too hot for any of us. We specifically asked to really minimize the heat but they declined to do so and still charged us for it. Fish curry - the fish didn't really have any unique twist to it. They just threw the fish with bone into the curry and cooked it. The curry was excessively oily and didn't taste great. The ambiance is very empty here and they did not want us sitting at a booth by the window.

Let's call this place BoB. It doesn't look like much outside, but you'll want to check out the lunch buffet. It's in the middle of a quiet plaza, and resides in what used to be a night club. The service is prompt and stays out of the way. The buffet has a nice variety of foods which includes naan, rice, vegetarian options, curries, chickens, and more. Of course you'll find some Gulab Jamun which hits your sweet tooth. Overall a spacious place that could use an interior designer's touch to make it feel more lived in and inviting, but the food is pretty good.

I am so glad my husband found this place on Yelp! We had been craving good butter chicken and chicken tikka masala since moving from our place near Streamwood. We used to frequent a place there called India Foodie but had difficulty finding a local Indian restaurant to frequent near Elmhurst. I think we'll honestly be at Bowl of Biriyani 3-4 times a month. It's a nicely decorated, clean, and open restaurant with plenty of seating and social distancing. All the servers wore masks, and some were wearing disposable gloves as well. We ordered the butter naan, butter chicken, and chicken tikka masala. Butter Naan - we ordered two servings. freshly grated garlic with crispy naan. It was a delight! Butter Chicken - a solid butter chicken, smooth, slightly sweet, and delicious! Chicken Tikka Masala - herby, mild, and a solid dish to enjoy The total came out to be $38.28 with leftovers for tomorrow!! Bowl of Biriyani, thanks for filling our stomachs with deliciousness! We'll be back.

What looks to once be a nightclub, now turned Indian joint is how I would best describe this spot. Very spacious inside with more than enough parking. We did some take out via Doordash and it was pretty bangin'. The butter chicken was spot on. Garlic naan went quick, but was a tad over-toasted IMO. Goat dum biriyani was flavorful and had a pretty good kick of heat. Shrimp hakka noodles were sort of the outlier, but I dig it. Would I come back again? Definitely. 'Til next time, cheers!

Came here for lunch with my mom on a Thursday afternoon. It looked closed, but it wasn't. We had lunch specials. I had the butter chicken, which came with rice and naan; my mom had veg biriyani. Both came with dessert (gulab jamun) and an appetizer. The veg came with onion pakoras and non-veg with tandoori chicken, but I asked for pakoras instead. The pakoras were delicious so glad I did! I also got the idly/Vada combo, which came with chutneys, but no sambhar. The Vada was fresh and delicious, but the idli was pretty dense like they didn't let the batter rise long enough. I would def come back here.

I'm going to echo a lot of other reviews when I say I was 99% sure this place was closed when I pulled up, and was very confused when I walked inside. But none of that really matters because the food was AMAZING. I ordered myself a ton of takeout as a birthday treat and had leftovers for days. Ate it three days straight and could have eaten it for another three. Drown me in Malai Kofta.

We ordered a chicken curry, chicken biryani, and lamb Rogan Josh. Chicken curry tasted great, chicken biryani had good flavor except it tasted sweet which we did not like, and lamb rogan josh was a solid 4/5 (better than most). We ordered couple garlic naan and a cheese naan. Only issue I have is that complimentary rice should come with curries. This was not the case, but almost every Indian restaurant does this with the exception of a few. Good ambiance, nice wall decor. I'd order again.

The space is inviting and comfortable, easy to settle into. Service was exceptionally friendly. We were warmly welcomed and had a lovely conversation with Sara, the owner, which added a personal and heartfelt touch to the evening. Our party of four included a vegetarian and someone with gluten-free needs, and both were accommodated effortlessly. Always a sign of a thoughtful kitchen. We started with Aloo Paneer Tikki and Papdi Chaat, both excellent. The tikki was crisp and satisfying, and the chaat had that perfect mix of textures and tangy brightness. For mains, we shared Chicken Vindaloo, shrimp curry, Chicken Biryani, Mutter Aloo, and vegetable fried rice, all accompanied by warm, soft, slightly crisp butter naan. Everything was beautifully presented, well prepared, and balanced in spice without overwhelming the palate. And then... the cocktails. My friend and I ventured into margarita territory, one spicy and one with ginger, both crafted so well that we immediately ordered a second round. No regrets. If I had one small wish, it would be for music that leans more into the cultural experience. A sitar in the background or even Bollywood scenes on the screens would add an extra layer of immersion. That said, the American music playing was tasteful and unobtrusive. If you're in the suburbs and craving good Indian food with warm hospitality, this is your place. We'll definitely be back.

Food-wise, we were happy with our selections. We started with the Babai Punugulu. I can't tell you what it was b/c the description only said: A south indian snack enjoyed on the street side, served hot with house chutneys. I can't tell you if there was meat / protein / veggie in it or not. TBH - the menu should have described it a bit more - but it was good and we enjoyed the chutneys that came with it. Having just looked it up online - they are: golden, bite-sized fritters are made from a fermented batter of rice and urad dal mixed with onions, green chilies, and cumin. For entrees - we got the Butter Tikka Masala (w/ chicken) and Rogan Josh (w/ lamb). We asked for them spicy and I thought the spice level was good, but we could have gone spicier - but one never knows. It came with white rice and we ordered a garlic naan. The naan had a good amount of garlic on it so quite good. We enjoyed both of our entrees - I might have gone chicken for mine instead of lamb next time. The sauces for both dishes were really good and plentiful. The only drawback is the ordering / menu. It's on your phone (no menu in the restaurant) - which makes it hard b/c the phone is small - and you literally have to click on each dish to know what it is. Took a while to order. I would recommend having a hard copy menu - or changing the online portion where you can see the descriptions easily w/o having to click on each one. Overall - a great place with good food.

The first time, the coconut chutney smelled sour and tasted off, and one of my samosas had raw dough inside. It was surprising to bite into something crispy and then suddenly hit gooey uncooked dough. Since that was my only bad experience in 6years, I decided to give them another chance. Today, though, the masala in my masala dosa was spoiled. The flavor seemed off, and when I tasted the potato filling on its own, it was clear something wasn't right. Every dish--except the salad--was spot on: authentic, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. The chicken inferno was especially memorable, and the portions were generous. My only suggestion would be for the kachumbar salad to have more vibrant colors and fresher flavors--perhaps beets and carrots instead of the very chewy purple cabbage. I didn't try any of the cocktails, but I did have a glass of cava brut, which was served in a white wine glass and was a very generous pour. They have lunch specials, a happy hour, and tea (!) from 2-5, veg or non-veg options, which I'm definitely checking out. If you're vegetarian, items that can be made vegan are clearly marked, and there are more vegan items on the website than I saw on the menu, so I would ask. Most of the French touches appear to be on dishes with meat, though there are flatbreads and a spinach dip, and of course dessert; there is a lot more paneer on the menu than I'm used to, which might be a gesture towards the French love of cheese. Vegans would do best ordering the soya chaap or from the Accompaniments section, which includes classic Indian items (aloo gobi, dal). Overall there are about 8 vegetarian entrees / accompaniments, plus appetizer options. Restaurant serves wine, beer and cocktails in addition to the usual mango lassi, chai and soft drinks. We got a ginger mojito; mango lassi; the corn fritters; the fig/pistachio/paneer flatbread; garlic naan; rice; the soya chaap and a cardamom creme brulee. In general, food had a blend of spices but was mild, which makes sense given the French influence. The corn fritters were nicely spiced with good texture and a tasty sauce. The garlic naan is quite impressive with lots of herbs and garlic. Unless you love soy cutlets, I don't recommend the soya chaap (soy/wheat cutlets in coconut curry sauce); it's fine for what it is - the gravy was delicious and rich - but it's not for me. The flatbread was interesting; the pistachios didn't overwhelm at all but I would have liked more fig to stand up to the paneer. The spouse was impressed with the mojito; the lassi was OK but wasn't as fruity as I like. The cardamom creme brulee is served in a wide ramekin, maximizing the surface area of the sugar crust and making it easily sharable. Instead of permeating the cream, the cardamom seeds provided little bursts of flavor, which was nice but not what I expected. Service was a bit slow but solicitous - we were there on a quiet Sunday night. Copious parking; easy hours; I'll definitely check out the lunch specials and tea when I'm in the mood for local Indian food, heavy on the paneer.
