I was in town visiting family nearby and we decided to try something new and Indian food sounded good to all of us. We pulled up in the parking lot and weren't sure if they were open, as it looked empty but they were. There was just only one table occupied on a Saturday night which is usually not a good sign...we decided to give it a try anyway and were glad we did! The food was delicious. We started with the vegetable samosas which were fresh tasting with a nice balance of flavors and lots of vegetables in the filling. I went basic for my entree and had the palak paneer and it was absolutely wonderful. It was nicely spiced with fresh ginger and had a decent amount of heat. I like spicy food, and this was a pleasant level of heat for me. The paneer was flavorful and fresh. I ordered rice to go with it and it was fluffy and perfectly cooked. The garlic naan was hot, fresh and nicely seasoned. Sadly, only one other table filled before we left. The people working there seemed like the owners and asked us to tell others to come as business had not been good. So here's me, telling others to come! I went in on a whim for the lunch special. The butter chicken was good. It came with a can of pop and naan. The negative was that the naan was stale. I think they microwaved it because it became really hard and difficult to eat. The service was okay, but I had to ask for utensils and a napkin. It's a store front restaurant with little decor. Here's a new spot that just opened and it was ok. I've had Indian food from several places and this tasted like there was little passion in the creation. The entree options were a bit small and had more bones than anything but a healthy portion of rice. There is a dinner buffet, but it was closed that day. The service was not bad but could've been better based on occupancy. The ambiance was alright , there was a 15 min silence because the music playlist ended. The place is very inviting. What a nice surprise! Royal Indian Cuisine opened the day before our visit. Great flavors and value. The proprietors were personable and friendly and the service was attentive. The ambiance was nice but a bit sparse on decorating. I am not a buffet person, but I recommend you swing by and dive into the several flavorful options available. For our visit I counted 13 unique dishes. Favorites include chili chicken, samosas and green curry hard boiled eggs (yup). We appreciated that the owners solicited feedback for the food. Thumbs up! I want to give 5 stars because their food is good, but to avoid high expectations, I'll give them 4 stars. I believe they are short-staffed most days. That's not that bad on weekdays, but they should be more ready on weekends. I love their food though. I always get the lunch special: a Chicken Biryani with Soda or Butter Chicken with 2 Naan and a Soda for $7.99! Cant beat that price! My brother loves their Chicken Samosa. Advice to management: Please schedule more people on weekends so customers don't wait that long. This will also ensure that they will do repeat business with you. read more

Royal Indian is the latest newly opened restaurant in town. It features South Indian cuisine, although nothing seemed too unfamiliar. The restaurant itself is bright and cheery. It's also quite clean and well-kept. They have a weekend buffet that has 15+ different dishes, so if you're looking to try out new dishes, definitely give that a try. I visited on a Monday night. The restaurant was very quiet other than one takeout order, so I was warmly greeted and very well attended. The gentleman who greeted me offered to walk me through the menu, which I appreciated, and he made a few recommendations to help me narrow down my choices. I ended up going with a hot mug of masala chai, which was piping hot and perfectly spiced. The flavors blended so well together that I didn't need to add any sweetener. This is easily the best masala chai that I've had in the area. For food, I opted for the masala dosa - a thin, crepe-like pancake stuffed with well-seasoned potatoes and served with 2 sauces, and I also ordered the paneer, which featured a creamy tomato-based sauce. The paneer was also served with fragrant basmati rice, but I added an order of garlic naan for good measure. Everything that I ordered, down to the rice, was well-seasoned and balanced. I especially enjoyed the crispy dosa (who doesn't love potatoes?!). The portions were generous for the price, and I was surprised by how affordable everything was. I decided to take an order of gulab jamun home. Each order comes with three, very large gulab jamuns that are homemade and not from a can. I also had the opportunity to chat with the owner who is very friendly and kind. My only suggestion would be to make the menu a little more descriptive so that customers know what they're ordering. I'm an adventurous eater, so I was happy to order sight unseen. However, for others, a description of the dishes would be appreciated. Overall, Royal Indian Restaurant is a delicious and very welcoming place to grab a meal, and I am eager to come back and try some other items on the menu with friends and family. read more

Nice people and I'm always hoping a new restaurant succeeds, but the experience was somewhat lackluster. The room reminded me of a middle school cafeteria, which isn't a deal breaker if the food can compensate. Alas, it did not. The butter chicken was comparable to what I'd get in a frozen version from Trader Joe's, but with a much higher price point. The basmati was gummy, and the samosas were nearly tasteless. Will plan to stick with the other offering in the center of town as they really know what they are doing. We went there for the Sunday buffet as they had advertised on their flyer and well as posted on a large banner in the restaurant. They had also posted on their Facebook page the day prior about their buffet. Upon entering, the hostess told us there would be no buffet and when we inquired about their advertisement, the hosted noted that the manager had decided not to have a buffet due to low foot traffic. After conversing with the hostess, stating their staff had written on the receipt from two days prior to come on for the buffet weekend and that is why were back. She said she could not do anything about it. We noted that they will lose customers due to false advertising. We decided to stay and order from the menu to support a new local business. Our order included Goat Biryani, Samosa, Fish Cutlet, Dosa, Butter Chicken, a Naan and a Garlic Naan. After taking and placing the order, the hostess came back and stated, that they don't have goat biryani and it is being cooked, but we can order Chicken Biryani. (Buffet was advertised from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM and we had arrived at 1:30). Also they don't have Fish cutlet as it was being marinated and has to be marinated overnight! (No one marinates Cutlet). Also she noted that they cannot prepare Garlic Naan as the dough has to proof overnight (great excuses!! for not carrying the whole menu and only cooking and promoting just a few items on the menu!) The manager came out to talk to us, while we were trying to decide what else we could order. He told us that people spread rumors that they have buffet and that had damaged their business. We pointed him to the wall size banner behind him stating "All you can eat buffet for lunch and dinner!", He tried to argue that they could not afford buffet due to low foot traffic and why they don't have all the menu items. We acknowledged his statement, questioning why they write on the receipts to come back for buffet! He raised his voice that "there will be no buffet even we talk about it for 6 hours and if we want the food or not!" That was after we had decided to order had been placed from the menu. We decided to leave and the manager walked away without any apologies. Obviously the owners has no clue about their managers. He has to be fired as with that attitude the business will not survive for 3 months. The bottom line was they did not have enough menu items ready to fill the buffet. They had two entrees Chicken Biryani and Butter Chicken a couple foods which they could offer. Cannot comment on the food as we could not experience it. Cannot give less than one for service The Ambiance is as good a newly opened canteen, nothing special. It is neither a fast food joint, nor a restaurant. My husband and I ate here and enjoyed the spices and flavors - without the food being too spicy (hot). We had the Butter Chicken, Chicken Biriyani, Veg Samosa, Chicken Samosa - all were very tasty! Was in the area getting some work done on my guitars, needed to kill some time grab some lunch... and spotted RIC while driving on York Rd. Staff was very attentive and friendly. I ordered the popular "butter chicken" that comes with rice and regular vs garlic naan. The chicken was tender and flavorful, and the sauce/rice well balanced. About half-way thru my meal the owner came to the table with a complimentary appetizer called Dal Vada... freshly made from lentils. It was excellent... crunchy outside, soft inside... and the spice level was perfect. They also serve breakfast... large portions, with their most popular dish being the Masala Dosa. RIC's prices are very reasonable by today's standards. I learned the restaurant only opened two weeks ago. I enjoy supporting small local businesses and recommend trying this place out. The vegetable dish had asparagus that was inedible. There were multiple chicken dishes, but no lamb on the buffet. Much of the chicken was overcooked or oversalted. Happy to say that this place just opened up where Christopher's diner used to be, decent location and their hours are muuuch better. My wife and I got their butter chicken and samosas 3 times so far and it has been fantastic, and their gulab jamun dessert is really good!! Best Authentic Kerala ( South Indian) Cuisine in Chicago Land. Owner George uncle is a really good person and an excellent chef at the same time. I would recommend to try all the snacks priced very reasonably. Moreover the fish beef or chicken curries will be made to your preference but I would say try their beef fry and kingfish curry is exceptional always a pleasure and the Chai prepared here is top notch. read more
