I usually don't like bowling, but I had a nice time at Bowlero. It's high tech, with screens everywhere, and it doesn't smell like feet. I've also never seen automated bumpers, and you can set bumpers to be up for one person and down for another. The touch screens to order food and drinks weren't working, and the service was kind of slow. But the manager (I'm guessing this was the person who checked on all the lanes) was nice and helpful. We went traditional bowling alley on our drinks and got beers. Which paired perfectly with the sampler platter. So many classic snacks. Twice yearly, we celebrate my kids' birthdays at the same location, and have done so for years now. The food, service, and ambiance have driven the decision to pay the Bowlero pricing, which historically, has been a nice experience. Recently we hosted my daughter's birthday. For the party, we had agreed upon corkage for three bottles of wine, and settled on the same menu we have had several times in the past, which is garlic chicken and pizza, for 20 or so guests. Unfortunately, it took 35 minutes past the party start time (of the 2 hours allotted to the party) to get a wine opener, after asking multiple times. The food, as well, was far below what we've experienced before. The pizza was almost non-existent - perhaps 1/2" thick? It resembled cardboard. The wings were over-done and extremely salty. I unfortunately found this out toward the end of the party, as our gracious guests had not complained to me about the food quality. The next day, I reached out to the manager I had booked with, which required a follow up after several days of no response. The service recovery offered: removal of one the corkage fees, for a Bottle that was not opened. This is seems to be an extremely low-effort attempt, and certainly does not feel good as a loyal guest. We will be choosing another venue for our celebrations in the future. read more

Atmosphere (4/5): Bowlero's design is thoughtfully designed to bring entertainment everywhere you look and conveniently close to your fingertips. There are high-definition screens set above the pins and menu ordering screens in each lane. There were nice cushions and longboards set as decorations. A small critique was the menu ordering screens were not strategically placed closer to the edge so others would not bump into them as they walk back to their seats from bowling. There is AC and the place seemed fairly clean and modern. The lanes were fairly maintained. One other small difference was the pin strings that held the pins together. Pricing (3/5): Pricing is listed on signs with about $8 per person per game and $7 shoe rentals. Unless you come here for Monday night $22 unlimited games after 8 PM, come during off hours, or purchase vouchers through third parties, the pricing can be quite high. I wish that they could announce more specials on their site on separate days for college students, teachers, first responders, etc. Bar/Menu (3/5): Screens advertise colorful signature cocktails. There are many common American appetizers, pizzas, and burgers for sale. Corporate put in thought regarding different demographics such as vegetarians and popular party items such as beer towers, punch bowls, and beer buckets for group parties. I don't see any Yelp pictures of menu costs or even on their website. I did not like that we had to walk up to the bar to view pricing and beers on tap similarly at Daves and Busters. Arcades (2/5): Unfortunately, my friends thought their arcade and game selection were quite limited. I understand there's limited spacing but there were a few games that were not functional and the cost to play was very high without any tickets for prize redemption. Our group of 6 came in on a Sunday with a Groupon and no reservation. The young man who helped us was super friendly and was able to get us a lane and all of our bowling shoes with in minutes , easiest check in ever! Place was pretty packed with a lot of families and couples bowling. We had a lot of fun , the music was great and it was easy to order some appetizers and drinks from the monitor they had at each lane. We ordered a fish bowl sized drink to share and a sampler platter and a large pretzel. Food and drinks came out quickly, server was great!! Another great fun day at Bowlero in the District we received wonderful customer service, and we got to meet their District Manager Chris. He was very helpful and when a friend came late, he allowed us to start our game over, which was very kind and considerate. They have a full bar with "top shelf" alcohol, and a great menu of food. I'm not an avid bowler, but it's something I do enjoy every now and then. I've been here several times due to location but didn't realize how extremely pricey this place is until I went to Forest Lanes (not too far from here in Lake Forest). It was going to cost us $241 for 3 people to bowl on a "peak time" .. Saturday night, see screenshot! They also force you to spend $25 per person for food and beverages. In addition, minimum time was 2 hours, nothing shorter. I went down the street to Forest Lanes, paid $74 for 3 of us for 1 hour and 20 minutes which was PLENTY of time for a small group. We had a great time, no hidden or forced fees. At Bowleros price point, it's simply not sustainable or justifiable to visit anymore. Regarding the $25 per person food/beverage credit, I'm not a fan of when businesses force you into those arrangements. It does say if it's unused, the credit/gift card can be redeemed in the future but let's be real, we're going to misplace that card and it's just free money for the business. My review is on the bowling only, not the arcade or anything else. I've been here a few times and it's not a bad place to go bowling and have some drinks. Mondays are $21.95 for unlimited play after 8PM until close (includes shoe rental). During normal hours, bowling is charged PER GAME, PER PERSON. You are also charged for shoe rental. It may not seem like a lot, but if there's only two people in your party the games go by fast. And if I remember correctly, the minimum price per game/per person is $9.39, and you have to pay for each person's shoe rental. After certain hours of the day, it's even more expensive. They do have an app where each dollar you spend gets 10 points, and those points can be used to getting a discount on games, etc. We had to change lanes on multiple occasions as every lane we played on had some sort of issue (random pin falling for no reason, etc.). The resolution of the TV doesn't match the program that is used to display on it, so the left and right sides are cut off. Overall the place is pretty nice. It has a cool atmosphere to hang out with some friends, especially if you're going bowling. If there's less than 4 people in your party and you're looking to bowl (not on a Monday night), I would go elsewhere to get your money's worth. read more

Came here with a few of my friends that all have a summer pass. We put our name down on the waitlist at 4:30pm and they told us the wait would be 30-45 minutes. We waited and came back around 5:30pm to ask about the waitlist. We were told that the wait would be another 45 minutes at least. First time bowling at Bowlero--we picked up the gift cards from Costco and decided to give them a try today. We went shortly after lunch on a weekday so things were pretty slow (maybe only 5 lanes in use). Behind the counter was a screen which displayed a promotion--it wasn't cheap, but not terrible either. The staff proceeded to tell me that the pricing on the screen is not valid--I managed to take a picture of it before they turned off the screen. Note that there's no pricing or rate sheet listed anywhere. After some back and forth, the manager said he would honor the pricing, even though the promo was supposed to be over already. After we were done bowling, I checked the Bowlero website, and guess what--that special is listed. Very dishonest. Even if I could get past the dishonesty, I don't think I would come bowl here again if they can't even have a simple price/rate sign available. As for the lanes--they are not in great shape, and also the first time where I have seen strings attached to the bowling pins for the reset mechanism. Didn't seem like it worked too well, and seemed like it actually affected how the pins fall when the ball is thrown. Went here for a company function. The service was great and the atmosphere was fun! The lights over the pins changed color and the overall mood was great! The food was normal bowling alley food: pizza, wings, mozzarella sticks,etc but were still very good compared to some other places. I didn't have any hard alcohol, but was pleased that they served Mango Cart. I've bowled most of my life and these lanes were definitely for entertainment purposes only. I've never bowled where the pins are attached to strings. This causes some reactions to occur that normally don't in conventional lanes. The lanes reacted well to different types of throws (hook, back up, etc.). This location is at the Irvine Spectrum and is on the 2nd floor next to Planet Fitness. If you plan on taking any equipment like I did, then anything with wheels will click pretty loudly through the shopping center since it is made up of bricks. I walked on the patches of artificial grass to try and muffle the sound when I could. Overall, My coworkers and I had a lot of fun and would definitely go back again! read more

A little about myself. I'm an above bowler book avg 213 and between leagues and practice I typically roll 60+ games a month. I tend to avoid permanent cosmic bowl houses like this because as I want real lights on so I can see my targets and ball motion, but I just finished up my Sunday league and wanted to keep rolling but second shift was coming in and all the other houses in OC have leagues at this time. So I decided to suck it up and deal with the cosmic lighting and try and have some fun and roll another 6-10 games. Also I've never experienced string pins so I wanted to try it out before I cast judgement, and finally since it's a cosmic bowling house, lane courtesy doesn't exist and when you have a bunch of young adults and alcohol it makes a very challenging place to focus and I wanted to work on blocking everything out. 21.50 for unlimited bowling (shoes included if you need) and from 7p to 11p. That's a heck of a deal and I was thinking I may have just found my new practice house since it's 2 miles from my home. I was feeling optimistic. I've heard the lanes are higher friction here which I wanted to practice on anyhow for a different lane condition and experience (tournament prep) so I prepared my little practice arsenal 4 ball roller with my weakest covered balls. I brought a Motiv Supra RallyPearl, Motiv Top Thrill Solid, TZone Spare Plastic, and for shiggles brought my 900G Zen Pearl (which I now immensely regret, see photos). These are my burn balls, what I go to when the lanes are toast. First red flag raised when I asked the very friendly and nice person at the front desk when was the last time they conditioned the lanes? They said they didn't understand what I meant. I said you know put fresh oil on the lane. They're still puzzled, so I said you know the little machine that cleans and rolls up and down the lane. They said they think someone does it in the morning. This is a training opportunity, anyone that works in a bowling house at the front desk should be able to answer simple basic questions like this. I didn't ask about lane topography or pattern/ratios. Just simply when was it last oiled. I had the misfortune of being assigned lane 11. The groups around bowling were on par with what I was expecting and I was fine with that and I was able to work on my games mental focus which is about the only successful thing I accomplished. I say the misfortune as the ball return is broken and does not eject the ball from the return opening. Instead it sits there spinning the ball, which in turn damaged all of my balls. I have to resurface every single ball I brought here. Not only do I have belt marks all over but my balls which are prestine and well cared for look like I went bowling on asphalt. It took a chunk out of my Zen which only has around 30 games on it. It was so dark I couldn't see how bad it was damaging my equipment. After only 4.2 games (about 40min) I noticed an awful burning rubber smell and my ball had got stuck in the opening of the return and melted the cover of my ball. It is mind boggling that the same company that owns the PBA would run bowling houses like this. I have a substantial position in Bowlero stock and if this is what they think the future of bowling is I'm second guessing that position. Lanes were dreadful. Fronts so dry and backs had a ton of carry down. Boards 1-10 had the majority of the oil and there was no chance of hooking, 12-30 friction zone. Unless the person that ran the lane machine had a little fun and laid down a whack sport pattern, I don't think these lanes were oiled at all during the weekend. Or if they did oil the volume must be 10-15ml. My TZone hooked 12 boards and rolled early. I've never seen a TZone shape. Finally the string pins. I was fearful when the PBA and now the USBC certified string pins that eventually the majority of houses over time would switch to string pins and Bowlero owns a lot of centers. I'm a cranker/tweener usually 470-500rev, 20mph launch and 17.5mph entry speed. When I hit the pins the explode with a thunderous crash. Not here, when I hit the pins not the same crash and not even close to the same pin action with the craziest leaves. I average 7 strikes a game and here I was getting 3. These strong pins are hot garbage. I don't care how many studies they have that state it only affects score by 10-15 pins, it's not the same game. This is a carnival or pub game, not bowling. I hope to God that Bowlero will have dedicated league houses with A2s and a person that doesn't think Kegel is a naughty word. Keep the string setters to cosmic houses only, don't bring that rubbish into leagues or competitions. I left 2 stars as the employees were very friendly and hospitable, but the bowling experience deserves 0 stars. I now have to figure out how to salvage $700 worth of gear that your poorly maintain machines destroyed. All of the balls I used tonight will need full resurfacing which isn't cheap nor time friendly. read more

This is a fun place to bowl and hangout, located upstairs next to Planet Fitness. The online reservation was pretty easy, I booked 2hrs slot the day before 4th of July. The Host Ashley was very welcoming, she greeted my group after we checked in and took us to our lane. She explained to us how to work the keypad to enter our names and everything. The also have the touch screen so you could order your food and drink thru the Kiosk, but since it wasn't too busy, our server just told us to order from her instead of using the machine. I really love the vibe of this bowling alley, love all the TVs you can watch while you bowl or just hang out at the bar. The multi colors of all the pins and bowling balls are pretty cool too.
