The nitro cold brew is smoooooth. Probably the smoothest cup of coffee I have ever had. If you don't like the bitterness of coffee, this is a good option. Best place to get a fresh cup of coffee in the area! I highly recommend the "pour over" coffee, they make it fresh right in front of you. Their pastry counter has some tasty cupcakes if you have a sweet tooth. I mostly like the cool hipster vibe and it's in a good central location in summit. As a coffee lover and fanatic, I will always chose a local coffee shop over chains like Starbucks or Dunkin' Donuts. Saw this on my Yelp search as I was coming to the area for lunch with friends. Cute atmosphere! I love the colorful chalkboard menus. Easy to read and understand. The staff member who took my order was super nice and fun. I had overheard giving other customers input in different brews of coffee and suggestions so she was very knowledgeable. The barista was also very fun and quick! Though my friend and I ordered lattes to-go, he left my friend's latte uncovered in the to-go cup so he could see the foam leaf design he made. I always love creative baristas who have the skill to execute milk foam designs. We came on a Saturday afternoon so it was busy and packed with people with their laptops but there was virtually no wait and the barista made our drinks very quickly. Tables were clean. I also liked their selections of different coffee brewing systems and some teas. They also have quiz nights and open mic nights once a month! I had the honey cinnamon latte with skim and it was delicious. Honey wasn't overpowering and contrasted well with the cinnamon. I will be trying more from here for sure. read more

I was going to start out my review with 3 stars just because the service was absolutely terrible. Went there around 7:45 this morning and the 2 women barely greeted me, especially after I said good-morning which is extremely rude. I work in customer service and I know that will DEFINITELY cause customers not to come. They're sitting there having a conversation instead of engaging the customer, very cold. Maybe it was just these 2 women who are like this, maybe it's just the way the town is, but that was horrible. I'm a big tiper and I definitely didn't tip this time around. Now for the dessert I got a caramel delight & a blueberry bar, gluten free. I raised 2 stars because they were sooooo good!! Totally recommend for gf stuff. Absolutely love it! Came here to grab some drinks as it was brutally cold out. My friend and I both got a chai. However, when when I went to get them, one was very hot and one was room temperature. The room temperature one felt as is if it had been sitting out for a while. My friend had to ask them to make another one and the whole process probably took about a half hour. This used to be my go-to but it has really fallen off. Virtually all of the baristas I knew are gone (we're talking 10+ people here) so it's not a friendly place anymore - generally the staff talks among themselves, often instead of making drinks. This morning I spent $12 on a latte and a donut. The cup wasn't full or hot and, frankly, didn't taste that great. There are so many coffee places within a 2 block radius that they really should be trying harder. I'd recommend giving Serra Doce a try. read more

I got the dark roast coffee and it was just okay. But the vibes of the coffee shop made up for the okay place.

I really want to like this place but the coffee was really just milk. Honestly their small is 16 oz which on most places is considered a medium. So, for a mocha latte it should be 2 shots of espresso but they made it with one. After I drank that shot in the first three sips it was literally milk with a hint of mocha. $5 for a "small" too. Wish they had a coffee spot like this in my neighboring Livingston. Worth the struggle for parking in downtown Summit, this new coffee shop is a departure from the coffee chains we have all become accustomed to. The digs are modern but comfortable: marble topped tables and chairs, a banquette towards the front, and nice dark wood floors. While the staff can be a bit flakey, the coffee and tea they serve is prepared with care. You can order a carafe of tea which is really a mini french press you take to the table. The options for pour-overs are really nice and they make a terrific cafe au lait...perfect foam and temperature. The location is really modern, clean and welcoming with an atmosphere that is calming. I had the large iced coffee with cream and splenda. The coffee was smooth and packed a punch. Before a morning of exploring the vastly different nearby environs of Jersey City, I decided, since I was reading one of his books, to visit this somewhat upscale coffee shop in Jim Cramer's hometown. Besides the fancy pastries and sandwiches they offer at pretty high price points, though, there is nothing that any schmoe off the street can not appreciate at this cafe though. They don't charge for the comfortable seats or the views of the classic downtown of Summit (though immediately across the street is a parking lot). There is definitely a talkative, neighbors and friends gathering, vibe on the weekends here so it's not exactly a place to chill out and read a book (like I was trying to do) but the atmosphere is laid back for sure. All this being said, the fancy sandwich that I tried was amazing! Apples, arugula, and fancy cheese on a biscuit set me back a bit but the tastes knocked me back on my comfortable chair for sure. I only wish it had been bigger since it was a light snack for the price of a full meal. As I sat and drank my iced tea, I just looked around at the families and said I could get used to this lifestyle if I lived in a fancy part of New Jersey. That is, if I could afford it. Maybe someday with a few more good stock tips in the future. read more

I ordered a plain croissant warmed up and a caramel iced coffee. They asked me if I wanted a small or large iced coffee. They showed me the sizes and the large was quite a bit bigger but only 50 cents more. Nobody asked me for cream or sugar (which if that was the only issue I wouldn't be writing this review). Anyhow, they did not warm up the croissant and they charged me for a large iced coffee and they gave me a small which tasted no better than cheap hotel coffee. My bill was $8.80 and I made it even and gave them the remaining $1.20 as a tip. I feel that is quite expensive for a croissant and an iced coffee. For that price and the tip I provided for a small local business, I'd expect better. I'm willing to give this joint another chance but right now I am incredibly dissatisfied with the service. read more

Very good quality coffee; they use Intellicencia brand beans as well as proprietary blends. Any espresso drink is top notch, especially compared to its competitors. Manhattan Bagel coffee is basically undrinkable after you get used to Boxewood. Their pour overs are great to drink in-house, but overall aren't much different in quality from using a filter brew at home. The only negative; it can take a LONG time for them to make your drink, commuters beware! Assume your drink will take 10 minutes to make, especially if you have a train to catch. You need to budget time to get a latte here. Doesn't matter if it isn't busy; Boxwood needs to properly massage the coffee grinds and whisper soft validations to the foaming milk in order to make your drink sublime and that takes a while. read more

I'd love to give Boxwood four, or even five, stars, because there are certain aspects I absolutely love, such as the ambiance, their teas, and the fact that they have quiz nights, but there are also some areas that could be improved. Their teas are lovely and when you sit in, they come in a French press, each with its own recommended steeping time. I also love their cold brew as its smoother yet stronger than its Starbucks counterpart. The ambiance is modern and refreshing, though can be a little loud at times, because there are always people sitting in and enjoying it, which is great, but a little distracting when you come to work, depending on the time. The coffee prices are comparable to those of Starbucks, but my main criticism is with the prices of the food. The food selection is limited to pre-made, mainly breakfast sandwiches, muffins, and pastries. The prices are not listed anywhere, but are surprisingly high. I would appreciate greater transparency in this area. Nevertheless, I love supporting a local business and especially one I thoroughly enjoy spending time in. I've been to Boxwood twice now. I'm not a huge coffee drinker, but my fiancé definitely is. He's obsessed with Boxwood! He loves their coffee blends, single origin coffees, and especially their pour-overs. I personally don't really care. Give me a simple latte or macciato and I'm good. In fact on my latest visit I didn't even get a coffee. Instead I got hot chocolate and a lemon bar. The hot chocolate was pretty tasty and rich. The lemon bar on the other hand was amazing!! Went here today for the first time. Ordered Mocha and a slice of brownie and was not disappointed. The Mocha tasted really good. Probably the best Mocha I have had as it was smooth and sweet and strong all at the same time :). The staff were friendly and helpful enough. The cafe is very spacious so a very good location to go with family and friends. Additionally, They had a bowl of water by the door for dogs which just made me fall in love with the place even more :). I would definitely go back. The new kid on the Summit block, Boxwood Coffee, JUST opened today. Across from Starbucks, it's got a battle ahead of itself as far as customer competition. But it shows some good promise. I added it to the Yelp list of businesses, and right away, I'm a fan of their feel and look inside. It's the best original coffee in Summit (pour-over, teas, etc...) Traditional marble countertops and seating tables with nice moldings, a lot of seating, and a spacious layout. I'm a big Starbucks guy, and I've been wanting there to be some alternative - glad Boxeood came along to be a nice switch-up from the specialty coffees Starbucks serve up. Starbucks gets packed, has that hustle and bustle vibe, and gets nuts sometimes. Obviously, it's day one of Boxwood's business, but the space they have seems like it can handle some business and crowds more than Starbucks'. Wood ceramic tiles all over, solid wifi, and a nice menu with a "special" coffee. I'm currently sipping the Honey Cinnamon Latte special, which is pretty good. Flavorful and done right. They have all of your classics: Americano, Cappuccino, Macchiato, Hot Chocolate, and all sorts of teas. Swing by and check them out. read more
