My husband took our car in for a simple oil change. We didn't get our car back when we should have,…read moreso we called and asked what was going on. They said they had taken it out for a test drive to see if they could figure out a noise the car was making. Another hour and a half later, close to closing time, they called to tell us that while driving our car the 20 or so feet from their work bay to a parking spot, our car's ENGINE HAD SEIZED UP AND WAS NON-FUNCTIONAL. They tried to play it off like it wasn't their fault and said they'd "help us" by finding a used engine at a junkyard (of equal mileage, approx 77K) and installing it. Took them about a month to do so. They gave us a 6 month warranty on the "junkyard" engine and free oil changes. Needless to say, they screwed us. Our car now reads 88K miles EVERY time we check the mileage on a mechanics machine, our air conditioning was never charged on the new engine, our spark plugs are crap, and our alternator needs to be replaced. Basically, they managed to render our car useless/destroyed during a SIMPLE OIL CHANGE. Andrew, the manager, said he would "help us out"... the car is now worth nothing for a trade-in because of their BS. My husband is a nice guy who had recently been through a bypass operation, and Andrew and the owner took advantage of his being nice and not one to make a fuss. DO NOT TRUST this place, DO NOT patronize them! I don't know how they did it, but they seized up our engine and destroyed our vehicle without a real care in the world about what they had done. My husband and I BOTH FEEL USED AND ABUSED. We own the car, and now our property is basically useless for driving or a trade-in. An oil change at this Merlin might seem like a good deal, and cheaper than a dealership would charge, but it's NOT WORTH IT. If they screw up your car during a simple oil change and seize the engine, they WON'T "make it right". They'll "fix" it as cheaply as they can and leave you screwed. STAY AWAY FROM THIS MERLIN AT ALL COSTS!!!

They fixed the so called problem and then a few days later it was back in the shop for a new code that mysteriously popped up and in the end cost me a lot more money. This time had a engine light on again and a coolant leak bad radiator ok, how much it came to just under $1700 the car is older with a lot of miles so I asked do you see anything else because it would not be worth it for me to put much more into it. They said no, nothing visible. Well they fix the radiator and the coded item, great I will get one more year out of it. NOPE, I got a day and a half drove it back to the shop no issues except for a engine light on again and guess what, another code that didn't appear just a few days ago. Amazing, this time they want to repair my vehicle that was at least running for another $2000 WTF, I passed picked up the car and it died on me 3 times trying to get it home which is only a mile away. I should have left well enough alone. At least the car ran before they played with it this time. Called the shop to see if they put it all back together correctly and of course they did but how does a car go from running to not even being able to? My exhaust starting getting loud. I come to find out that my exhaust had rusted NEAR the flex pipe…read morewhere it attached to the y-pipe. Honest-1 (the District Manager) tells me that there is a "hole IN my flex pipe" and that the y-pipe is in really bad condition. He tells me that instead of paying $637, I should replace the y-pipe as well because it's not going to last me and I should just pay the $700. He told me I should make an appointment to get it done asap. He kept asking me "how about tomorrow", "how about Thursday"... I asked him to show me the hold in my flex pipe, but he wouldn't. I wasn't feeling to good about this. When I walked in to Honest-1 Auto Care (Ogden and Eola in Aurora), I immediately got a bad vibe. Can't really place it, but my gut felt something wasn't right about this place. Now, I'm female and over 50....don't know too much about cars but my gut had a feeling that because, 1) they would NOT take me to look under my car when I asked them (when they had it up in the air) and 2) the jargon they started mumbling about, trying to confuse me, felt off. I attached a picture of the real problem with my car. DO. NOT. GO to Honest-1. Had I not had that gut feeling and went with them, I'd be out a whole lot of money. They should change the name of their damn business!!! Epilogue: I took my vehicle to a place in Lombard for an estimate on referral from a friend. This auto care that I went to in Lombard took me under my car and showed me exactly what was wrong. He told me that the flex pipe did NOT have a hole in it and it just needed welding. He also showed me the y-pipe, which was in great condition as well. It ended up costing me $180! Please, save yourself some money - do not go to them - and I know the name is attractive and all, but they were all about the money.
