I work near Kevin's so it is a very convenient place to get an oil change since I can drop my car off in the morning, and walk over to pick it up when it's ready, but I return to Kevin's for so much more than just convenience. I trust Kevin (squared) which is such an important factor when dealing with car maintenance. Not having someone to guide me in the right direction or provide a base level of knowledge of what could possibly be wrong with my car is intimidating and leaves me vulnerable, but time and time again I have been in great hands at Kevin's. They call me with an explanation of what is going on and walk me through what my options on. They never take advantage and are always forthcoming. Had a starter problem in my 2001 Camry. Called up one place in St. Charles and asked them what the price would be to replace it and they told me $450+. Well. That sounded a little ridiculous to me. I called up Kevin's and they quoted me a much lower price. I walked outta there with a new starter and fresh oil change for $275. These guys seem like real honest people. They just fixed my old Pontiac that was leaking oil badly. Did a great job with a great turn around time (took maybe all of a couple hours.) They were great about explaining what exactly they did, and what should be done later on to keep the car safe and road worthy. Mixed feelings but ultimately disappointed. First time great service and pricing. We're new to the area and was glad to have thought we found an honest mechanic. They still could be mostly honest. But 2nd time was awful. After going through the needed process of getting quote and what's required for the fix, I agreed to a fixed price. After the work was done, they called to tell me it's done but needed to add a hose, which wasn't needed at all, and that I needed to accept it and the price. "It is what it is"! Only a $1.50 hose clamp was required. I asked them to retain the parts changed out which they did. The owner was fired up that I requested this, which informed me he was defensive about... I asked him to show me the new parts installed and he angrily refused. During his obscene tyrade, he seemed angry about the previous time in which he did an hour long inspection and claimed he wasn't paid labor for-he did get a markup on tires and some labor though. I think he was seeking some form of reimbursement for his previous efforts which explained the inflated labor costs+unnecessary parts+markups. The overall price was in the ballpark, but what a jerk! Burned a bridge here pal. Work on your customer service. read more

I spoke to a neighbor and read reviews online before going to Kevin's and I was NOT disappointed. I had a noise coming from the front end of car which could be several things. The shop looked at it but unfortunately couldn't find the issue. I spoke with Kevin and will bring it back if it gets worse. Now get this, I wasn't charges for them to spend a couple of hours trying to find the problem. Because they couldn't fix it they would not charge me for looking at it.
