A blown tire on the highway caused our family to meet in Tomah instead of La Crosse. We'll be meeting in Tomah more often!!! I started with the brisket, so good I had to try the pork, so good I had to try the chicken and thankfully my son is a slow eater and I got to get a bite of his ribs. Each bite was a great experience. The amazing meats are complemented perfectly by awesome sides. Greens, green beans, baked beans, coleslaw and probably the best corn muffin I have ever had. The kids enjoyed nachos, tots, fries and onion rings. The owner stopped at every table to tell everyone about the sauces. Not that they are needed, but they make the great food even greater. A sweet BBQ, spicy BBQ with just the right amount heat and a mustard BBQ that brings great flavor to the party. Besides telling about the sauces, he also had stories about his food competitions and even cleared tables. What a great discovery in Tomah. Our first time here so we had only other folks recommendations to go by. I had the pulled pork sandwich and my wife had the brisket sandwich. Both were excellent. One the table were bottles of different sauces. We recommend the house bbq sauce, it was wonderful with a hint of smoky flavor. Both our meals were the combo plate which included a drink and two sides. The selection of sides was great. Soft drinks only but a huge selection including flavored ginger ale, which i hadn't seen in years. Parking lot isn't huge but adequate. Hours are 11am to 8pm. Closed sunday. A tad hard to find, but is located BEHIND the Tomah US post office on superior street. Give it a shot, you will want to come back and try other menu items. read more

Stopped here on a road trip to the Twin Cities on the strength of the Yelp reviews. On the positive side, the counter service was friendly and took the time to give details on the menu items and answer questions in a gracious manner. The decor and music was fitting for the BBQ theme of the restaurant. I ordered the chopped brisket sandwich, and my companion and her daughter shared the smoke brat sandwich. When we received our orders a few minutes later, the brisket seemed to lack much of a bark and didn't have much of a smoked flavor at all. As a minor detail, it was sliced, not chopped (obviously a perfectly fine way to serve brisket, but not what was on the menu). The brats, which I expected to be stellar, also had a lack of smoke flavoring. One of my companions thought the texture was a bit off as well. I think this place has a lot going for it. If you think you've had the best brisket or ribs or pulled pork, and you haven't tried this place, you're kidding yourself. This Texan approve!!!! Hands down. I will admit I came here with all bias in my heart as to who can cook bbq in Wisconsin. Shoot they beat 90% of the bbq joints in Austin. Austin, TX take note! So I grabbed the two meat combo with two sides and a drink. I added ribs cause why not. Not disappointed. It isn't seasoned too heavily to take away from the smoke flavor and the ribs are just right. Not fall off the bone but ooohhb weeee perfect. The bbq sauce I'm not sure if it's original recipe but it has a hickory flavor that excels at its job. It compliments the meat and don't over power it. I did eat the brisket with just a dab of bbq sauce cause it was delicious. If you read my other reviews I'm not a repeat offender at eateries when I travel but I know my bbq taste buds will arise again before I head back to Texas. I'll be back. I will check out some other spots too. It's a small spot so no big crowds. And that's alright with me because I'm generally by myself or with my boss. This time I'm alone. I've always thought of Tomah as a dead zone for restaurants. I've always tried to avoid the area when searching for a quick bite. A coworker recommended this place to me and I am beyond grateful that they did. This place is AMAZING. The menu is short and sweet, but to the point. If your order a combo, it comes with two sides and a beverage. Great prices, food is delivered promptly, sauces on the table, and the meat melts in your mouth. I will definitely be back! We began our experience by using the restrooms. All of them were out of necessary items. The service was mediocre, at best. But we didn't want to make judgments based on that. We sat on the patio, which was lovely and well done, until their septic began being pumped right in the middle of the dinner hour - 6:30pm. That was slightly disturbing. When our food was delivered one of the ribs was dropped on the ground. No biggie, people make mistakes. Except we weren't offered a replacement. When I went up 15 minutes later to ask, I was told ok, and I then returned to my seat. We were approached by a staff member and asked if we indeed wanted a replacement, to which we felt like we were suppose to say no...? But yes, we actually did want our replacement rib and didn't feel as it was something unreasonable to ask. The food was decent. Nothing was tender as you would expect, but the flavor and sauces were pretty good. The sides were good as well. But all in all, I would not recommend it. read more

I'm having a hard time figuring out how this place has received more than one star. I would have given it zero if Yelp had allowed. This wasn't just THE worst "BBQ" we've ever had, it was the worst restaurant meal we've ever had. Got to BP at 6:30 on a Friday night. It was empty. That should have been our sign. The guy at the register was super nice. We ordered...we got pulled pork sandwiches, corn bread, onion rings and beans. The beans were meh. The cornbread...pretty sure it's out of a box. The onion rings. Man. Frozen and out of a bag. But if someone tries, even those can be ok. These ? They were tough and chewy. I picked one up and just barely touching it, grease ran down my fingers. The grease in their frier was old and too cold for a good fry. If it hadn't said "onion rings" on the menu, we would never have known what they were supposed to be because they had absolutely no flavor. The pulled pork sandwich was horrible. Pulled pork is a low, slow and moist cooking style. Not here. I have no idea WTH they did here. This was, without a doubt, the worst sandwich that I have ever had. This thing had zero smoke flavor. Hell, it had zero flavor, period. It was the toughest, most stringy and dry meat ever. I ate the store bought bun because it was the only edible thing on the tray. I was raised in the south and for my entire life, I have eaten BBQ. This place is, hands down, the worst thing ever. Don't be fooled by the good reviews. Came here 2X due to the popularity among the guys I was with. It is a clean place, even the bathrooms. I had the pulled pork and the pulled chicken along with several sides. On the last visit, I had the warm peach cobbler. The food is tasty. One of my party is an amateur smoker / BBQ guy that likes to compete, his description of the pulled chicken was "on point!" (This is a compliment) the service is fast and friendly and was constantly checking on us. Has an outdoor patio as well as good indoor seating. It's a good place to go great bbq sauce and they have more sides but they need to put the brats on a grill and give them some marks and heat and served with sauerkraut or relish and mustard and ketchup, but like other bbq places they have their ups and downs sometimes it comes out great and other times it's what happened, bbq postmasters have the same problems on the circuit. read more
