I had a 4 star before but I agree with the latest reviews. This place has gone down big and fast. I have lifetime alignment. Use to be 2 bucks for them to do it with fee now its 4 bucks. Guy said no it was even 3 when he started few years ago and no it was not. Want to charge me crazy amount for water pump 700 when it will cost me only 290 at a trusted shop. I just laughed and left. Also suggest going to firestone for alignment. 200 lifetime and no extra fees when you get it done Update as of feb 26'. If I could do negative stars or even no stars I would I just had suspension replaced at another shop and I told them I would get alignment because I already have lifetime warranty here. They laughed knowing crooked problems with company. Besides point but throwing in how crappy this company is. But I drive to brake check everything was fine. I leave after alignment and its worse than no alignment! They didnt give paper showing before and after until I raised hell after to see what was done. Damn near nothing done to back. Front was tweaked a little. They did not suggest anything. After I come back because my car drives worse they say I need all these new parts. I made an appointment online, I got there before they didn't start on my car till maybe 15 minutes after my appointment it was busy which is fine I was in no hurry. I called in and was quoted $59.00 for an alignment. I made a verbal appointment and went in. Was waiting over an hour in their lobby for my turn, then before they started said it would be $139.00 instead of the earlier quoted price for the one time alignment. This might be a good place for brakes but the oil change was not great. The area where the filter is replaced was left messy and dripping oil. This should have been cleaned and not done so quickly. I took my vehicle to a different shop and had it lifted up; they explained everything to me. Spend a little more so you don't waste time here. read more

Location: 17160 I-35 N, Schertz, TX 78154 We spent over $1000.00 dollars on a full brake system repair after getting a free brake check and mentioning that the E-brake did not work. After the work was done and we were given a smile and a thumbs-up, the E-brake still did not work. After calling back and asking about the E-brake and why it didn't work the salesman claimed that checking the E-brake did not come standard with a free brake check and complete BRAKE system repair. After conferring with Midas in Universal City about their standard free brake inspection we were told that their inspections and brake system repair always has the EMERGENCY BRAKE included. We called Brake Check again and they quickly hung up on us after we brought it up to them. Do not come here, they do not care about your safety or their work. Don't put your safety in these men's hands. I'm left feeling cheated and not cared about by this company, and even more so worried about my wife's vehicle and life on the road without a backup option to stop should her brakes fail. read more

I had my alignment done 9/18/2021 and it was pretty bad. My commuting back and forth to Austin has been a tremendous headaches because there are construction on IH-35. With my busy schedule with engineering classes and work I had to get this done. I would like to thank the guys for a great job and finished so fast. I would recommend them to anyone. UPDATE 12.28.22: Better Business Bureau rating = F with a 1 Star rating from 27 reviews. Still have not gotten the issue resolved and no response from phone calls or emails. UPDATE, 11.24.22: After posting the feedback below on this site and other social media site, I received a call from Juan Forero, Corporate Director on 11.15.22. He also put Brandon, store manager, on the line. We discussed the issues and after some back and forth, Brandon acknowledged that he could not be sure that all the work was completed (mainly the bleeding of brake lines). The remedy offered was for me to bring my vehicle back to the location and they would redo the caliper maintenance and brake fluid flush. Juan stressed the importance of not only earning my business, but more importantly earning my trust. I stated that I am not in that area often - maybe a couple times a year - and that it would be a while before I returned. After thinking it over that night and realizing that they had lost my trust because of the incomplete work, coupled with living about an hour from that location and I would be out several more hours time to get the work done (as it should have been initially), I had a change of mind. I texted Juan the next morning, 11.16.22 and let him know that the trust had been broken and I wanted a refund of $164 which is the amount of the caliper maintenance and brake fluid flush. With no response for a couple of days, I called Juan around 5:30pm on 11.18.22 and left a voice message. He returned the call and said that he had read my text and would call me the next morning, 11.19.22, to discuss further. Five days have passed and no communication from Juan or anyone else from Brake Check. At this point, I will file a complaint with the BBB and also dispute the charges with my credit card company. Now downgrading from 2 stars to 1 star. ORIGINAL POST, 11.14.22: Heard grinding that morning so pulled into BC to get brakes checked. As suspected the pads were shot on the rear. The back rotors also were shot - deep groves on the inside. Rotors (installed by previous owner) were heat dissipating style with holes / grooves so could not be turned. I was ok with installing new, normal rotors ($130.49 each) and pads ($69.88 set). Counter person stated I really should have caliper maintenance done ($52.50 each side) and that would also require a brake fluid flush ($59.88), or the same issue would happen again as the calipers would not be working evenly. Agreed to the work and watched as I was only car in bay - slow day. Service tech never remove calipers to perform maintenance. Never saw brakes being bled, only fluid sucked out of reservoir and replaced. The work was completed in about 40 minutes. Car was lowered and backed out and put in parking spot. Asked counter person about caliper maintenance being performed - said that the service tech had his own way where he did not have to remove the calipers like the other service techs. Asked about the bleeding of breaks and he said it was done - stated only saw fluid sucked out and replaced - he said the service tech was good and quick and I just did not see him do that work. Other HIDDEN/Not Disclosed charges: $60 labor to replace rotors, $31.88 for disc hardware and $31.93 shop fee. Total $643.45 to replace rear rotors, rear pads, perform (?) caliper maintenance and a brake fluid flush which included a $6.99 veteran discount. I would normally do this work myself but at 60 years old and having just had a total knee replacement, not able to physically get the work done. Feel like I was hoodwinked to the tune of $164.88 (caliper maintenance, brake fluid flush) .... more if you add in the undisclosed shop fees. So, while Brake Check may be o.k. as a company, this location should be considered with caution. read more

I took my 2019 Ford Explorer XLT there yesterday, June 13th 2023. I was hearing a sound on the rear brakes of my vehicle. I called Brake Check and spoke to Eric (Manager), and I was telling him my issue with the sounds that I was hearing and he said to bring it on down so they can hear/look at the problem. They were all great and I think I found my new Auto Maintenance Shop. I changed my wiper blades. I will also be getting my full synthetic oil change from this shop. The shop is very clean and the Tech's are very nice and answered my questions. The fixed the sound that I was hearing and it was this little metal piece close to a caliper that makes this certain sound. They readjusted my brakes and I'm not hearing the sound anymore. I'm glad I went to this Brake Check location in Schertz, TX. I recommend this shop to anyone who needs to have their vehicle fixed and the AWESOME-NESS employees. They are nice and understanding when answering your questions. read more

DO NOT take your vehicle here. They put the wrong weight of oil in my diesel (lighter AND cheaper than what I paid for) and they overfilled it, causing a buildup of pressure. This could have ruined my engine if it wasn't caught early enough. I will never do business with another brake check again. read more

They tried to get me to pay for things that my car did not need. Tried to take advantage of a young girl not familiar with car maintenance. An employee all but admitted to using a scare tactic to get me to pay $1000 for services I did not need. Afterwards I took my car to a different shop where they confirmed that I did not need the services that they were trying to scare me into getting. Be careful if you dont have much knowledge of vehicles because they will take advantage of you. read more

The guys here are amazing! I spent weeks trying to track down a weird crunching sound from the front left suspension on my grand Cherokee. After not being able to find it on my own, I accepted it and took it in for an alignment. The tech performing my alignment, Braylowski, was intrigued and became determined to help me find the source of the sound. 30 mins later, found the problem was a loose carriage bolt, tightened, and resolved! Only charged me for the alignment and I was on my way. This is not a unique situation, as I've brought my vehicle in a couple of times for routine maintenance and the guys here have been super helpful every time. Thanks again!! read more

If l could give no stars I would. Took 4 hours to do the brake job for Tundra and it was done extremelypoorly. Didn't fully flush brake lines (something I payed for) and air was left in the system. Went home the next day and redid all the work. Several of my lug bolt that hold my tires were stripped. Had to replace 3 bolt. I can not implore people to NOT go to this location. Took this as a hard lesson of if you want it done right do it yourself. read more

They returned my car with a flat tire and air pressure gauges not working. The worker told me that the gauges will come back after I get to the highway, but that was a lie. When I called to ask what they will do to fix the situation the manager got aggressive and kept yelling "we don't touch the tires". These guys are the best! I had a total brake failure - my pedal went all the way to the floor. These guys replaced the burst brake line, rear brakes and got me back on the road. They road tested my truck several times, put it back on the rack and fine tuned the rear brakes until they were satisfied with the repairs. My old truck was quite a challenge! read more

Went to Brake Check in Boerne on 12/10/22 for pads and rotor resurfacing, costing $518. I had to take my car back to them on 12/16/22 due to a grinding noise on the driver's side wheels. They advised that noise was just the new brake pads being "broken in," and that the noise would go away over the next week or two. I let a few weeks pass with NO improvement, and on 1/8/23 I went to the New Braunfels location for service. They had no availability and referred me to the Schertz location, which I immediately drove to. The guy at the counter drove my car and immediately heard the noise, and acknowledged it wasn't normal. They put it on the lift and within 5 minutes, he came inside and asked with obvious concern on his face, "when did you have these brakes done, sir?" I told him 12/10/22 at the Boerne store and asked why the concern. He took me out and showed me that the caliper bolts were very loose, creating a potentially crippling and VERY expensive future repair if left alone. He proceeded to have the bolts tightened and checked the others. When he produced the Inspection Report, it curiously made absolutely no mention of the problem he identified. I asked about that, and he said he couldn't change the Inspection Report once it was generated. He offered to give me the first name and phone number to a regional VP, which I took and intend to call. But, I am not waiting for a callback after reading so many virtually unanimous one-star reviews. If they call me back, it would be a surprise to me after reading others' experience. It's a real shame I didn't do my homework on this company first. I NEVER would have let them near my car had I seen their track record for inferior workmanship, quality, and follow-through. read more

I've received consistently good service at this location ever since it recently opened, taking multiple cars. They operate truly as "first come first serve" and the staff is always friendly, informative, and not pushy on add-ons. I highly recommend this place compared to other chain-competitors in the area. But knew it needed to be just a bleeding took it to them asked how much would it be to just bleed them they said 67 and some change then when I get there they tell me I need a new Master cylinder because it took one pump for the brakes to catch so they say 580 and some change I took it to a trustworthy mechanic and he tells me something different and comes out to be way cheaper. I recently received terrible service at the Brake Check located at 17160 I-35, Schertz, TX! The name of the company is, "Brake Check", so you would think that they would be experts when it comes to brakes. Not the case at the Schertz store. Here is my advice... DO NOT pay for anything until you have test driven your vehicle and ensured that it functions correctly. This was my mistake. I paid for the service. Then the technician took my car for a test drive. Then he handed me the keys and said that I was good to go. I got on the road, stepped on the brakes and they pulsated and vibrated. Explain to me how a brake "expert" can say that the car is good to go when the brakes pulsate and vibrate? Lesson learned on my part. This location has failed to align my vehicle three times now. They destroyed a Tie rod with a pipe wrench. The manager refused to let employees replace the part when I bought a new one to replace it with (they should have paid for). Next visit I had a bolt fall out of a joint and when the vehicle was lifted the ball joint fell out of the housing. I asked if they could push it back in before they let the vehicle back down, but the employee refused and pulled it out of the garage in an unsafe condition. I picked up the missing bolt and asked the manager if they would help to push it back into the housing so that I can put the bolt back in and I was told "because you do your own work we will not help you at all." I explained how it fell out because it was lifted up not because the bolt fell out and I was only requesting some tools to lift it back into place so that I can make it safe to drive back home, but he kept repeating the same thing "because you do your own work we will not help you at all" but by this point, he was yelling at me in front of all of the employees and customers. I explained again that I have the parts and I only needed assistance with tools to get the vehicle back on the road and again he repeated I'm not helping you. It took an hour and a half of waiting in the parking lot for a family member to leave work and get me so that we could get some tools. The repair took 5 mins and we were out of the parking lot. Could have saved two hours of my time if they only pushed the joint back in place before they lowered the lift. I DO NOT recommend anyone put their trust into Brake Check with your vehicle needs, its a risk not worth taking! read more

I scheduled a front end alignment at this Brake Check for 10AM. I arrived 10 minutes early and saw a vehicle in the alignment bay. I spoke to the manager letting him know that I had a 10AM appointment. At that time he told me that his 9AM appointment had just arrived (late) and that I would be after him. The late appointment was not the vehicle in the alignment bay so I asked the manager when my car would be worked on. He stated it would be at least another hour. I asked him if they follow appointments when he just mumbled a few words. At that time I told him to cancel my appointment and he again mumbled some words I couldn't hear. He then walked away without saying sorry...or he would get my car in sooner. JUST POOR...NO CUSTOMER SERVICE. Customers shouldn't be treated this way. read more

PLEASE STAY AWAY. Terrible service. A simple "30 minute" brake inspection took about a day. The manager calls me in the evening and said they're short staffed so they'd give me an update the following morning. I never got that update in the morning. I call in the afternoon and he says he will call me back in "10-15 minutes." That phone call never happened so I call 2 hours later and he gives me an update. At this point I'm frustrated and just want the brakes finished. He Says they'd call me when they know more. He never called me back so I call near closing time. He says they are looking further into why my car has some brake fade and steering wheel drift. He gives me his suggestions and we agree on a service plan for the brakes. He Tells me my car will be ready tomorrow around noon. So it's now, tomorrow, and it's 3pm. My car wasn't ready at noon. I finally get a text saying my vehicle ticket is closed and ready for payment. I show up to the shop so that I can pay and pick up my car. Well the car is still on the lift and is being worked on. He says he wanted to stay ahead so closed out the ticket early. I pay and I leave so that they can finish it up. He calls me within the hour and says I'm going to need new rotors. Im already closed out and I just want my car back. I'll test my luck. So I kindly decline and go get my car after they close. Driving off, my car shakes uncontrollably whenever I brake. It's worst now compared to before them touching it. I should have just declined the service all together. How can you trust someone to be honest with you if they can't even keep their word on calling you back? I'm usually very understanding but this was just unacceptable. The shaking is so bad that i will have to take it in to get checked. The service at this brake check was so bad that I'm not even going to bother taking it back to them to service it. I'll spend the extra money to have it done all over again somewhere else. Ok, rant it over. Sorry, but just don't make the same mistake that I made. Save your time, money, and frustration by going somewhere else. read more
