Called on Tuesday to schedule an appointment to have my brakes inspected for pulsating when braking at higher speeds and replaced, if necessary. Emily took my call and was professional, friendly, and most importantly, knowledgeable. She gave me an estimated cost to replace all four sets of brake pads and two rotors, just in case the front rotors needed to be replaced. I decided to wait and ended up booking an appointment on the Brakes 4 Less website later that day. I called Emily Wednesday morning to confirm the 12:00pm appointment I scheduled and provided my vehicle year, make, and model. I dropped my car off just prior to 12:00pm and Brandon told me they had cars in every bay but they would get to mine even if they had to stay late. To make this already lengthy story a little shorter, about an hour later he called to say I needed all fours sets of brake pads replaced along with the rear rotors. He called me at 4:00pm to say my vehicle was ready. The service I received and the quality of workmanship was excellent but watch out for their bait-and switch tactics. I called for an appointment and an estimate for replacement rotors since I knew mine where warped on my 2017 Ford F-350. I was told on the phone that the estimate for rotors was $150 each. I knew this was low because I had priced them but figured they must be able to get volume prices. When I dropped my truck off I was told by the local manager that the rotors would be $330 each installed, more that double the estimate. Had I more time I would have left then but I needed my brakes fixed and I had to make arrangements with work to drop it off so I bit my tongue paid the $1600+ for the performance brake service and 4 rotors. I realize that everything on an F-350 is expensive and somewhat expected the price to be higher than $150 per rotor but not more than double. I was very happy with the workmanship but will not do business with a company that uses these kinds of techniques to get me in the door. read more

On 20 November, I went to Brakes 4 Less at the Northwoods location for brake work that is covered on the warranty documentation I received when the vehicle was 1st serviced on 10/06/2021. My brakes are rubbing, making noise. My warranty, as documented, reflects I am covered for 40000 miles. Which I am within that warranty period. I was informed by a Brakes 4 Less mechanic (which after looking up to find the branch manager for resolution...strongly resembles the LinkedIn photo of the Branch Manager, John Shook) that I am only covered for 40k miles on my brake shoes alone and not my rotors. I was told I need new rotors and that they are only covered for 12 months/12000 miles. My documentation from Brakes 4 Less does not differentiate between 12 months' rotors coverage and 40000 miles coverage for brake pads. My warranty only documents that I have 40000 miles coverage for both parts and service they did back on 10/06/2021. I was told by the guy here (poosibly John Shook) and by a man who did not want to give me his last name (Drew) that I would have to come out of pocket to have my rotors replaced since they are worn. I was given a verbal estimate of nearly $500.00 to replace my rotors. I informed the repair guy I am not prepared to pay anyone money for service that is documented as covered. He informed me that his other customers are aware of the policy and know what to expect. My issue is that if I am only covered for 12 months/12000 miles for rotors and 40000 miles for pads, that should be clearly spelled out in writing. Had the documentation (warranty/receipt) clearly differentiate that I would not be inclined to find this as an issue. The name on the store is Brakes 4 Less. Not Nickel and Dimes. After reading my warranty several times, I see nothing that indicates my coverage to be anything less than my expectation of "40,000 miles parts & labor warranty," as shown on the attached document. This whole thing comes off as a bait and switch scenario & I am not too pleased. I am left with having to get only my pads replaced and then having my warranty now voided...per a conversation with the B4L mechanic. I will not be coming back for service here. Nor can I in good conscience recommend them repair anyone I know brakes. read more

We went in for a front brake job and ended up having the rears adjusted as well for the same price, which we weren't expecting. Do your research 1st. This place will wheel and deal and put the brakes on for more than what they advertise. I had an appointment at 12:30. I sat in the lobby until 3pm until my car got checked in. I than had to wait another 3 hours to get it back. Pretty much a whole day gone. I was promised a job for $629, but for some reason the "boss" left without finishing the paperwork and I ended up having to pay $750 for two rotors and 1 pad on a Cadillac. Something just didn't add up right. Wasted timed and wasted money. Shop around and remember that if it too good to be true it probably good to pass it on up. read more

My husband visited there today and will NEVER go back! He went to have his brake pads changed but once they got the brakes pulled apart they came back inside and told him that his brakes had been "contaminated" and that it would cost $1200 to "fix" them. After some back and forth discussion with the manager, Frank, my husband asked them to put his car back together so that he could take it somewhere else. At this point Frank tried to use my sons safety as a selling point. We then took our vehicle to a mechanic that we know and trust who said that there was absolutely no contamination in the brakes and that we were lied to! These people are untrustworthy and deceitful. An hour after I got there they told me a bunch of things should be done (and I have no way of knowing if they were telling the truth) but every single person in here needed more than just brake pads so it seems now like they were just pulling the wool over my eyes. My experience: I went in for the simple break job.. Now I was in no way expecting it to be a simple matter of changing pads and surfacing rotors.. All parts of the system wear and calipers become sticky, so no one is getting the package price.. However: I was charged for things that weren't done. 1) They say that they flush the brake fluid. So when I got home I filled the washer reservoir and checked the oil.. When I looked to check out me nice new clear fluid in the master I noted it still looked pretty dirty. When I went to pop the top off, I saw that it too was dirty and dusty. It says right on the cap to clean before removing (to avoid debris from falling into the master cylinder) The front brake reservoir was a little clean (because they had to remove the calipers on the front) so all the fluid was lost. They did not clean out the master reservoir though, the fluid had already started getting old dirty fluid mixed in. The rear part of the reservoir was completely untouched. I was charged ten dollars for this.. 2) There was a charge of 70 dollars for (bearing packing and break adjustment). My front bearings are sealed and the rear bearings are integrated with a floating axil and are lubricated by the rear end gear oil. The brakes are hydraulic so there is no adjusting. The rear parking brake wasn't touched because watched the whole evolution through the window.. I was charged 70 bucks for nothing. 3) They told me my calipers were sticking and needed a rebuild.. After their first two lies and ambiguous charges, I really wonder if it was a "rebuild" or just a relube of the caliper slides (something that is done as a matter of course at a "real" brake shop. In short; they are either con men, liars, or fools.. They surely have no quality control.. Avoid avoid avoid.. read more
