To begin, I used to go to Brakes Plus for fluid changes on several vehicles, for years and was always very happy with the service. Oil changes particularly were very fast. Things seemed to have changed in the past year. Upselling seems to be the norm now. There always seems to be some additional "recommended" item. Recently I had an oil change on Friday and was told I needed several other things. I didn't have time that day, so I made an appointment the following Monday to have one of the items fixed. When I went in at 8:00 am, I was told they would need the car until 1 or 2 in the afternoon. No explanation from the Mackenzie (Manager) why it would take so long. When I called after 2, I was told they just received the part and would be getting started soon. Estimated it would be ready in less than two hours. Two hours and 15 minutes later, I received a call that car was ready. When I picked the car up, I received no explanation or mention of why the service took so long. I didn't even get a thank you from Mackenzie, just a "here you go" when she handed me the receipt. Customer service is by far the most important thing to me when choosing a business to patronize. Finding a place that you feel it's reliable & never fails you is hard to find. can't say how repairs if they do great but 1st I made and appointment which should be by who's scheduled is priority but 1st appt had my kid wait almost 3 hrs just find out mechanic was sent home and not even advised, made second appointment to be told wasn't even scheduled. poor way to keep clients. This doesn't sit well with me can't put my money into a location that shows you setting up a time is not even valid. read more

Made an appointment at 6am for 1pm. Came a few minutes before one. The receptionist was extremely polite and kind. She checked me in. Within 40 mins the technician had answers for me on what was wrong. He explained everything very simple for me to understand. Told me that some things didn't need to be replaced and could be saved and I was very pleased by it. My total came to just under $350 which is great because others have quoted me over $900. They were able to get me right away and work on my car. Exceptional service! Plus they update everything in car fax for you which I love. TJ the manager really saved my b*tt this time around. Auto repair is really all about diagnostics, most competent mechanics can fix a problem once they know what the problem is but, that's the easy part. I ran my '03 vette into a baaaad pothole at night recently, really hammered the front right wheel. I was able to drive it the short distance home and waited to see the damage the next day. Not pretty - the wheel rim was really torn up and the 'nose' torn and trashed. Not safe to drive with that wheel. Short version, I got a new front right rim, had a tire shop mount/balance it then took the car to TJ and Brakes Plus for a 4 wheel alignment. TJ pointed out the rear right rim had a chunk out of it too, I'd not even seen. Ouch. So another new rim and tire balancing. The car was still making a bad road related noise, and pulling a bit too. All my Corvette 'expert' friends said, the tires have hidden damage, the steel belt has come loose inside, etc, and/or the wheel bearings got whacked. But both wheels balanced fine on the new rims, damaged tires didn't make sense really. Bearings, maybe. Back to TJ, asked him to give it a good look. Well again, he found a problem I had no idea of - the rear left rim is also bent! You could not notice the problem looking at it standing still, I didn't at least. That would explain a lot, and he recommended a good local shop that could straighten the rim. I had no idea that could even be done or certainly not locally; in my head I was checking off buying another $400 rim. TJ did suspect the front bearings a bit, his guys said they heard a bit of noise from them but at 110K miles, no surprise that they might be iffy. Once I get these urgent problems fixed, I'll be back for that work plus maybe new brakes. AND, he didn't charge me a dime, even after I kind of insisted I pay some kind of diag fee. You just don't find that kind of expert service and treatment often these days. read more

Made an appointment to get an alignment and a tire rotation done on my vehicle. I didn't think it would take very long, so I decided to wait. The waiting area is ok, I mean come on, it's a garage not the Hilton. Free wi-fi, coffee and a warm place to wait. This was my first time here and I was immediately greeted by Nick. They didn't bring my vehicle in right away but did bring it in about 15 minutes after my arrival. After another 20-25 minutes, Nick came out to tell me that my vehicle didn't need an alignment but they could not get one of the lugs off the rear wheel because it had been cross-threaded. He then asked me who did the last rotation and I told him Discount Tire. He said he'd be back in a few minutes and returned to tell me that his manager had ok'd it for them to break the wheel stud off and replace it since they work with Discount Tire on things like this. After another 20 minutes or so, they pulled my vehicle out of the bay and told me I'd have to go over to Discount to pick another lug because they are specific to Discount. Just of note, there was another woman waiting for her car while I was there. She had brought her car in because she had run over something and there was a noise coming from underneath her car. They pulled it in and determined it was a non-essential part and they could just remove it. They did so and sent her on her way at no charge. I really like the honestly and helpfulness of this shop. A big, thank you to Nick for helping me out with the tire. It would've been a really bad situation if I'd gotten stuck somewhere with a flat tire and unable to get that lug off. read more

I come here for just about all my car needs now. They are fast and they won't jack up rates at all. They are very fair in their prices and will break it down for you if you ask. I have some more issues they are fixing on my car in the upcoming weeks and don't mind coming here at all. I also love that they will drive you back if you need that. It's a nice feature to give to their customers. They also are obviously knowledgeable about what they are doing. However what I like most is while they recommend you do x, y, and z they will never pressure you into it or push you hard to do it. They will give you an honest timeline saying it is critical or it's not that critical and you can afford to wait a month or a few weeks depending on what is going on with it. I really like that because it gives me time to budget out a little more. The place is also really clean and nice inside as well if you are going to wait. they also have WiFi which is great. So if you want to finish up on a paper or just watch a show you have WiFi to least connect to. read more

I've been here twice now for brake work, and both times I had a great experience. The first time was a couple years ago. My brakes were grabbing in a funny way and were starting to whine. So clearly time for a check. A tech drove my car around the small lot and was able to tell pretty quickly what was wrong, just needed some new brake pads. Maybe it was a slow day, but they were able to get the car in immediately and replaced my front pads in a couple hours. They were honest and said the rears were looking good, so I appreciated not being swindled or overcharged for something I did not need. Fast forward and the ol' brakes started pulsing again. I knew the rears were due and wasn't sure if the rotors were going to need resurfacing. Given COVID, I started to book an appointment online but decided to call because I didn't know how long it would take, and I had another appointment for tire installation so wanted to make sure the work would be done in time. Glad I called, because turns out the online booking system is not always accurate. I spoke with Keith, who I remembered from last time, and he was quite helpful. He got me in at 9AM and ensured me that they would be finished by 1PM. Turns out my rotors were fine, just needed rear pads and brake line flush/fluid replacement. I noticed that Yelp had a check-in deal for 10% off the total service, so presented the offer at the time of payment. I may have been one of the first to use it, as none of the workers had seen it before. But they tried the code anyway and it worked. It saved me a good $40. To note, they also have coupons on their website for various services, if not using the Yelp deal. Highly recommended! read more

DO NOT USE THIS BUSINESS. Upon returning for a 2nd visit, the technician pulls my car out of the lot and absolutely punches the gas up to 6500 RPMs on my turbo. I dont even drive it that hard! He didn't see me outside cause it was a 100 degree day but holy crap how unprofessional can you be??? Then 30 days after I spent $250 to repair my brakes they say I need to spend $350 more?!!? this after they just "fixed them". Horrible treatment of my car and as a customer. 0 STARS Awful experience. Big O wanted over $ 1,000 for 2 front brakes. I knew this was way out of line. After dealing with them for years it looked to me like they were going into racket mode now that the price of everything is going up. Not just because of price but out of principle. Most horrible location! My wife dropped our car off for warranty work any they tried to get over on us $700! The problem was the break light came on after only a few months of getting the brakes and sensors done not to mention the calipers. They call and said the front breaks a gone and down to the metal and so are the sensors (2) they wanted $700+, that did not sound right we told the no and they wanted to insist we can't drive it. I brought it home bring a machanic and looked at it, the front breaks where more then good but changed them anyway and replaced the sensor.....1 not not two it only got one in the front and one in the back. Light still on so I looked the back, the breaks where good but the sensor for the rear was not correctly installed by Breaks plus they left it hanging and the wire got eaten up by the wheel......! Went in for new breaks, told by the technician that I didn't need them and that they still had life left. Brakes continued to squeak so took the car back to have them re-looked at. The manager, TJ Gardner, acknowledged that it was their error and made it right by waiving the charges for new brakes which in today's economy makes a huge impact on financially struggling couple. On 2018-09-21 we purchased a new set of four Pirelli Cinturato P7 tires for our 2012 Mini Cooper Countryman. Prior to the purchase we had taken the car to Schomp Mini for an oil change at which time they found no problems with the car. At Pep Boys we were informed that they couldn't remove a rear hub and it'd cost an additional $606 to repair. As this is our only vehicle we were at there mercy and authorized the repair, which in total cost $1287.95. I purchased the 3yr wheel Alignment special at that time for $139.99 and on 2019-06-10 I went back to the same location 1745 for an alignment. They completed the work giving the vehicle a clean bill of health BUT they never provided me the alignment diagnostic page indicating any problem. Fast forward to 2020-04-10 and we took the Mini to store ID: 1749 on Jewel in Lakewood for an alignment. They told us that the front tie rods would require replacing at a cost or $709.16. Fully understand normal wear and tear on vehicles but less than 11months later store 1749 informs me that I'd need new tie rods versus store 1745 not inform me of any issues when they supposedly did the alignment 2019-06-10!! On Aug 20th we again took the mini back to the West Colfax location for another alignment and they said the toe adjustments were missing. Ironic isn't it that the Jewel location does something to the tie rods BUT is able to complete the alignment and the Colfax location says they couldn't because the toe adjustments are missing. The only repair shop to touch this car was Pep Boys and each location presents a different problem that's all related to the same area of the car. Folks if you need any service to your vehicle I highly recommend that you take your car anywhere but not Pep Boys. Service sucks and they'll rip you off. read more

This review may be premature. But, yesterday, I took my car to Discount Tire for rotation, and the guys there thought both my front and back brakes were worn to nothing. They advised I go to Brakes Plus. Brakes Plus was able to get me in same day. They said it's just my back brakes that needed replacing, and frankly, it wasn't as urgent as the others guys thought. With Covid, I didn't want anyone to get in the driver's seat, especially since the Brakes Plus mechanic didn't wear a mask. They weren't used to (yet?) making accommodations. They did let me drive my car into the bay, but didn't really know how to check the brakes with me behind the wheel, especially since it's so noisy in the shop. I think we got it, though. Time will tell. The brakes worked to get me home, but who knows if that's front or back or both working? Just in contrast, Discount Tire, though they apparently know nothing about brakes, did ask if I wanted to drive the car in and out of the bay, so they are more prepared, and also offer lots of outside seating, as opposed to one concrete table and benches around it, which don't allow for social distancing at Brakes Plus. So, my suggestion is that Brakes Plus in Lakewood get some new protocols for Covid in place. And get ALL employees to wear a mask, please. They were $100 less than the dealer for lifetime warranty on the brakes, so we'll see how they do. If they do well, I'll upgrade this review. I may still take the car back for an alignment. It's a good price, and they showed me how at least one of my tires is wearing on the edge. read more

I moved from Texas a year ago and need my brakes check. The dealership wanted $169 for diagnosis, Brakes Plus offered a free check. I made an appointment on line and they took my car right away. TJ the manager explained everything to me-I only need the front pads and rotors machined. He did not try to push me into doing the back brakes as they were fine. There's nothing sexy or glamorous about buying a new set of brake pads. Nothing at all. But, it's a part of being an adult and keeping yo'self safe. I came to the Lakewood Brakes Plus when my RAV4 started making some horrible noises. I knew right away that I needed to replace the brake pads, but wasn't sure who to take Anthony (above mentioned RAV4) to. I decided on Brakes Plus, due to their stellar reviews. However, when I called they were booked all that day and I couldn't bring my car by the next day. They were booked on the weekend, too. I asked if they had a dropbox for my keys - which the manager told me that they did have. I was nervous about driving my car too much, so I dropped off my keys and was on my way. The manager gave me a call an hour or so later, explained what was going on, and said what he recommended. The prices he gave me were fair, so I told him to go ahead and do the recommended work. He called me back at noon and Anthony was ready for pick up! All the guys I interacted with were super nice. Plus, I didn't even have to wait in the waiting room! They also have some super cool coupons on their website, which helped a little bit. I will definitely be back here for an oil change too! read more

Brought car in for ignition replacement after Jerry quoted a price of $300. Car would start when brought in, but key was sticking. After a couple of hours, was called and told price was $1,000. Told them not to perform service, and when I went to pick up car ignition was SEVERELY damaged with key stuck in#2 position, hanging out halfway and unable to turn. Car was let in neutral with window open and no way to close. Manager TJ Gardner claimed that the car was already damaged and refused to be accountable for the condition and damages to ignition, but would fix it for$700. Called locksmith who came to site and repaired for $300. Employees TJ Gardner and Jerry were rude, dismissive, be and denied any responsibility.
