It's hard to know who to trust when you're finding a new mechanic, and going to a chain doesn't make that easier. I ended up at Brakes Plus out of necessity (the financing really saved my butt) but I'm actually really happy to have done so. I take my car to Brakes Plus for everything now. Sometimes whoever's at the counter can seem a little gruff, but never impolite. I always feel respected and they never talk down to me or try to upsell me. It's true that services might be slightly cheaper elsewhere, but you won't find it a lot cheaper, and you won't find it polite and prompt and guaranteed for any cheaper. This location is farther from me than the other location in town, but my experiences at this one have been more positive and it's got a more spacious waiting area so I prefer this one. read more

I'm currently not thrilled with this place. Yesterday I came in and they evaluated my vehicle and recon what needed done. On the front axle just brake pads and a rotor. The rear needed the drum and brake service. Plus flushing the brakes. They said if I brought it in the next morning by 7am they'd have it done by the time I was off work at 3pm. Then they brought my vehicle back to me with black oil and tar stains from where they climbed into my truck... not good for me or my dress pants. They apologized and gave me a wipe to clean it off. Fast forward to today I dropped it off at 7am and they opened at 8. They called me around noon and didn't leave a message so I called them back and apparently they had no idea about doing the brakes on my vehicle which we settled yesterday. Then they promised they'd start right away. But even after 4pm with no other vehicles in the shop mine still wasn't complete... $800 later (so pricey!) hopefully this lasts me got a long time! I seldom post negative things, especially about a business. However, I don't want anyone else to go through what my wife and I did. Last winter we took our car to Brakes Plus on Pine Lake due to overheating. To make a long story short, we were told our block or manifold was cracked resulting in the need for a rebuilt motor... a $5,000 repair. I was devasted because I didn't have 5 grand lying around! I decided to get a second opinion, hoping a rebuilt motor would be less expensive someplace else. Well, we took the car to Acutek in Lincoln... thinking the worst. A day later, I got a call from Vern at Acutek and the car was fixed. I needed a new thermostat... a $59.00 part versus a $5,000 motor at Brakes Plus. I thank the good Lord for not telling Brakes Plus to replace the motor. read more

When I called the Brakes Plus, 48 and O location in Lincoln, to schedule an oil change, they offered a special that included a tire rotation, so I went with that. After waiting about 40 minutes they told me my car was ready. I asked if they reset the tire location setting, since they rotated them. The gentleman looked at me like he didn't know what I was talking about, so he went back into the shop area to check on this. When he came back, he said that they forgot to rotate the tires, so they took my car back in, and I waited another 30 minutes for this to be done. When it was done, I asked again if they reset the tires. He told me they aren't able to do that, and that I would have to take it somewhere else to have that done. I was already fairly annoyed at this point. When I went to get in my car, I noticed grease on my seat and door, (my seats are cloth and leather) so of course I went back in to tell them about this. I believe it was the assistant manager that came out to my car to look at it. He then had one of the mechanics come out with a can of upholstery cleaner and a red shop rag to clean it. When he was done, my entire seat was wet, and looked gray from essentially spreading the grease around, and had red fuz mixed in from the shop rag. The worst part was the seat smelled like diesel fuel. When he asked me how it looked I told him it looked worse than before he started. His response was, "well honestly, that's how it looked when I got in it." I literally could not believe he actually said that to me. The assistant manager offered me a free oil change, which I declined, and asked him why he thought I would even come back. I ended up calling the corporate office and spoke with the district manager. He offered to have my seat professionally cleaned, which I did, and thankfully it all came out. I will not go back, for any kind service, and absolutely do not recommend. I was not disappointed! I was correct that something was wrong with my car and the folks at Brakes Plus were kind enough to explain it to me in a way I understood and walk me through the process of what needed to happen next. Best prices in town, I walked away from my very short waiting time impressed and knew I found the new mechanics for my car. My left rear brake hose and caliper seized up and ground my pads down to metal. When going to confirm that, I accidentally snapped a brake stud. Justin did an amazing job, replaced the rotor and pads under warranty and covered the cost of the new stud as well. I just ended up paying for a new caliper and hose, and he even discounted labor costs. Justin definitely did everything possible to save me money anywhere possible and as a customer, that's what will keep me coming back. It's a new location, but based on my experience, I've got no problem recommending Justin and his team and coming back here myself. read more

My car has been having problems with starting and I wasn't sure what was wrong with it so I decided to bring it in and hopefully get a better clue to what was wrong. I brought it in and they helped my greatly figure out some problems that would be wrong and where I could find them and how to fix it. Honestly wasn't sure if they would be able to help me but they did and told me if I ever had the problem occur again they would gladly help.
