RUN from these people. They deserve a ZERO if I could put it. We had just moved to Mckinney and we had an A/c problem. My wife had checked with a local mechanic that are neighbor referred us to. The mechanic investigated the Honda and said it needed a new compressor and condensor. Total cost would be $650.00 We thought about trading it in for a new Honda and then decided against it. So my wife goes in here to see what they would charge because the mechanic who our neighbor referred us to was 45 minutes away. I think that Raymond who works at Brakes Plus thought that my wife was an easy way to make some money. He turns around and quotes her $1,500.00 to do the work. When she is shocked he insults her with the line of "It is hot.... Don't you need Air conditioning?" That is outlandish and these people tried to charge us more than DOUBLE what the other mechanic charged. Needless to say we drove the 45 mins and I pick my car up this afternoon. If the ownership of this business is charging double for what an experienced mechanic charges then you have to wonder what else they are doing wrong. Don't know how these people can sleep at night............... Stealing is a strong word but I don't know what else to call it. I understand some places charge more and some charge less but DOUBLE? They seem to be very nice and helpful not charging you to check possible problems in your car. Once you are there they will tell you a bunch of things to replace in your car and give you an astronomic price to fix. Not just that, they have left my wheel with all 5 lugs so lose that I had to call the toll to pick me up + the other mechanic told me that he could unscrew the lugs just by hand! 1st. I had a $20 off 1st hour of diagnosticsand showed Jason at the counter when I first arrived at my 10 am appointment, wasn't added and now have to get another refund because the bill should have been $101 and I was charged $133. 2nd. Was going to charge $26 dollars for a OEM gas cap but couldn't get one from the dealership because it was too late In the day so was going to charge me $14.99 but then actually charged me $26 then had to give me a refund. 3rd. Check engine light went off but what they replaced, the gas cap, the light on the dash is still on amd Jason says it should go off. Not a good first time experience with them, not sure if I will ever go back since they charged me so much then have to refund and I'll have to see if the dash light goes off or not. Fantastic service all around at Brakes Plus off 380 in McKinney. I typically use the Kwik Kar by my house but needed some brakes done with my normal PM service. I witnessed the store GM Bryan helping out at the counter anytime the smallest line would form, always with a giant smile on his face. Jeremy was my CSR and super friendly - they stayed late on Saturday so I could see a movie w my wife (dates are rare with small children) and kept the doors open an extra half hour so I didn't have to pay over the phone or mess w the key drop box. I bought the premium pads that come with lifetime replacements that I've got no doubt they'll honor after he explained the process to me. Definitely coming back for the next brake (plus) scheduled maintenance. 5/5 stars read more

After work my car threw a check engine light and I went and got the code ran at auto zone. It was my mass air flow sensors and auto zone recommended brakes plus to me to get it fixed. I call them and they tell me it's going to be $650 just for the install like what! I got home and it took me two minutes to take the mass air flow sensors out and there telling me it was going to cost me $650 like are y'all out of your minds. Shake me head, they just think they can fool a teenager out of there money. I call auto zone and they have the sensors for $120. Like who do y'all think y'all are trying to charge $650 for two minutes of work that is the most outrageous thing some one has ever said to me. read more

Beyond upset right now. My husband had his oil changed here yesterday. His car had been running fine, today his car started smoking out of no where. We thought maybe some oil had spilled on the engine causing it to smoke. No that wasn't the problem, so we took it back here around 3:30 pm today. The man who helped my husband yesterday said it'd be ready in about an hour and a half or a couple of hours. And he'd call us once its ready. We told him we'd be waiting at chick fil a next door. We patiently waited until 6:30 before calling. (Not realizing they close at 6). No one answered so we walked back over, and they're closed and no ones inside. So currently it's 7:35 pm and we're stuck outside in the Texas heat after waiting for 4 hours for our car that they said would be ready today. DONT GO HERE. read more

Jordan was a life saver at Brakes Plus Mckinney...I have a 2007 BMW 550 that I don't normally drive and keep in the garage it had a ton of caution lights blinking so I panicked and brought it in. Jordan called me back in an hour and told me I needed like $700 worth of work done. That was a lot to pay for me out of the blue so he worked with me and fixed what I would need to get it back on the road safely. He got my bill down to $400 and change with coupons. Then called back and told me car needed a part they did not have in stock and that he would order it and take care of it free of charge. He also replaced the tail light for me. Buyer Beware! I got my oil changed here recently along with some other things (that they recommended I fix) and everything seemed fine. A couple weeks go by and I notice a ton of oil leaking from my car. I took it back to brakes plus to check it out since they had just changed the oil along with those other things... They said my oil pan gasket was leaking and that it would be $500+ dollars to replace. Mind you nothing was leaking before they had worked on it. But they told me there was no way they had made a mistake, because "looks like this has been leaking for over a year." I took my car to another privately owned small business for a second opinion. Turns out it was just an oil filter that had been screwed on too tight and broken which was an easy fix. New filter, new oil, cost me $38 at the other small business place. I will never go to brakes plus again. After this I'm sure they ripped me off on the other things they tacked on when I got my oil change originally. read more

Took my wife's car here to fix the blower for the AC. They said that it would be $547, so I checked the prices for the parts out myself; Blower Motor, $80.99 at AutoZone, they charged me $152.90; Blower Motor Resistor, $129.99 at AutoZone, they charged me $213.49. This is a 73.67% markup on the parts! I showed the guy at the counter the printouts from AutoZone and he said that they wouldn't stay in business very long if they didn't mark up the prices on parts. I thought that's what the $127.50 in labor they charged me was for. I'm disappointed because a close associate at work had told me really good things about this place. Their service is impeccable. The staff are always friendly, and very knowledgable. They are always busy, especially on Saturday's where the wait can be almost two hours for an oil change. Call ahead and schedule an appointment. They provide a full range of services, its clean on the inside and the bathrooms are kept tidy also if you must go. Went in to get AC repaired. I was told that there were 2 issues. I allowed them to fix those 2 issues. The end of the story is that I spent $1600.00 and my AC is still not repaired. I was never told that the situation could be something else ( the compressor). That should have been the first thing they looked at. Just as well, when I finally picked up my car, my blinkers were not working properly. I called Jason and he informed me that the technician did not re-attach A cord so I had to take it back to the shop. Also, there was a lot of grime inside of my car when I got it back. Let me tell you about my first experience with Brakes Plus in McKinney. I had reported a minor problem to my Ford dealer who told me I needed a new master cylinder and provided an estimate which, as one would expect from a dealer, was quite pricey. I called Brakes Plus and they told me that replacing a master cylinder would likely require a little extra work and gave me an estimate of half of what the dealer has quoted. Another local brake company gave me a considerably lower quote, but that did not include the other work that would be required (ex: fluid flush). Once in the shop, Brakes Plus determined that my master cylinder was fine and my problem could likely be resolved by flushing and replacing the fluid. My brakes are fine and I paid 1/10 of their original quote, 1/20 of the dealer's original quote. These guys were straight up and honest with me and they've won my business. read more

Had my father' truck in for brake repair on rear pads. Took it in because of advertised special for $99. Had the oil changed as well. Several calls later for flush fee, hardware fee, alignment, new shocks, etc... (shame on me) I agreed to a $999 cost. Drove it for the first time today, and the rear brakes have not been adjusted properly and wheels and brakes were smoking hot, I can smell the brake pads burning. Once I approved the work, it was only a short time later that I received a call back that the work was finished. Now I'm wondering, based upon the fact there wasn't a ride check - if all the work was actually performed. Alignment seems the same. Called their office - and they offered to tow me and take a look at it. Resolution TBD.... Resolution was I needed more parts and to spend another $235.78 with them. That was the cost for "parts only" and they did not charge me for the tow (how gracious). Seems like a place called "Brakes Plus" could at least get the brakes right. It's all a bait and switch. $99 special became $1240.00 special, and leave you with an awful feeling that you just got Royally had.....twice. Oh, and also checked my bank statement on Sunday (day following service) and they billed me twice for the last service, called the manager and he said they didn't and I would have to take it up with my bank (great service). If that's not enough - I was talking to my daughter about them yesterday - and she said they took her for over $700.00 in charges for front-end and tire work, but didn't fix it right a few years back. I'm not sure how they stay in business - but remember, Karma ..... All cheats....buyer beware. ! I wish I could rate them lower than a one star. Honesty and integrity does not exist at this place. I had a wonderful experience today with Brakes Plus! My brake light was on so I went in for a free brake inspection and an oil change. I knew I had some issues with my car already but I was only expecting to get what I initially came there for. Brian was extremely helpful, and nice and was truly looking out for the best interest of my vehicle. He noticed a few things that stood out to him regarding my engine and was very honest about what it needed, he even took a flashlight to my engine and showed me everything which I appreciated very much!!! I was walked through every bit of it which put my mind at ease. They were able to change my break fluid, my oil, along with a few other things that were very necessary. This gave me a sense of unbelievable relief after driving myself crazy thinking there was something seriously wrong with my car. I took all of Brian's recommendations, he even lowered the overall price of the work they did today knowing I had a tight budget. This was seriously some of the best customer service I have ever had anywhere! It was all very affordable, and as a young women that knows close to nothing about cars I felt very confident that I was getting the best service and price possible.
