This used to be a really good store. Not anymore. I have stopped taking all of my cars there. I had new brakes and rotors put on my truck, and the vehicle would shake (never did it before). After much arguing they blamed it on the upper control arms. Well, that is stupid. One it wasn't doing that before... and two, upper control arms will not cause vibration. I used to always do my own brakes. That is b.s. Stay away from Tony. He talks down to everyone in the place. I ended up getting the pads from Toyota and doing it myself. What do you know. Brakes Plus may be good for brakes or tire rotation but.....If you need A/C work on your car avoid at all costs. I dropped my car off on Thursday 3/19 at 10:20 am. I was told they would have to purge and charge the system first to make sure I had the correct amount of freon and was quoted $384 ( the newer freon is expensive).Next they called and said it would blow cold for a minute and then warm and after some troubleshooting found the compressor was locked up. New compressor, valve, ring and charge $2412 quoted. Called again and said that I needed a condenser and after trying many aftermarket parts I was told they hard to purchase from dealership because its a dealer only part. The cost was $500 and they would split the cost with me. Work was done and told on Saturday 3/21 to pick up my car. Paid $2722 and was told everything is great car is blowing cold as 47 degrees. Drove 3 miles and car blew very hot the whole time. Needless to say I turned around and went right back. I walked back in the store red and sweating ( it was 105 degrees out). They put it back on their analyzer and went to work. Some of the things I was told: The freon shows 1 ounce low we are just topping it off and will be ready to go in 15 minutes. The machine gives us a plus or minus 25 and we went high so we are going to vacuum the freon and reload, 15 more minutes. There is a pressure plug in the back of the compressor and it let out more freon, we are topping other off, 15 minutes. After almost an hour I got a ride home and told them to call me when it's ready. Sunday closed. Monday I called at 8:20am and was told the compressor was bad and a warranty part was ordered. 11:40 I was called and told the warranty part had to come from California and was scheduled to be delivered next morning first thing. Tuesday called at 3pm and was told the part just came in and they were putting it in. I was called Tuesday at 5:30 pm and told car was ready and they also had to replace a fan or fan motor that also burnt up. Finally success after 5 business days and many phone calls. Not someplace I would recommend. read more

Terrible Experience -- Don't Bother Making an Appointment I scheduled an appointment in the morning for car service, only to be turned away when I arrived. Apparently, they couldn't take my car -- something they clearly already knew, but didn't bother to call or email me about. What's the point of setting an appointment if they can't honor it? I even called on Friday to double-check and was told they didn't have time that day, so I followed their advice and scheduled the next available slot based on my work schedule. Despite doing exactly what they asked, I was still sent away. If you value your time, I strongly recommend calling multiple times before your appointment to make sure they'll actually honor it -- because they clearly won't do the bare minimum to communicate with you. read more

I have taken my car to Brakes Plus whenever it needs service. They have done my brakes, my suspension, my entire cooling system, and even some engine repair. A couple days ago I took in my 2007 Buick Lucerne because my car was leaking coolant everywhere. I was told that my car was leaking from multiple areas. I had gotten my water pump done there in February so they warranted that and went on to fix the other problems. (Needing a new water pump was not their fault at all.) These issues included my timing cover gasket, water pump elbows, oil seal, and my upper and lower intake manifold gaskets. At first, my bill was only for the timing cover and water pump elbows. After them working on it some more, they found the rest of the issues. They ended up not charging me any more than the original price that was agreed upon since they did not see it before. Which made me very happy and appreciative. Shane was the one working on my car the whole time and he was awesome. He kept me updated with phone calls, took the time to explain everything to me and why it needed to be done. He was very personable and even took the time to answer every question I had for him. He gave me lifetime warranty on everything I had done, and took the extra time and effort to make sure he did every preventative thing he could. Overall, very good establishment with employees that genuinely care about their customers. As a woman, I am always very timid to go to new repair shops due to the possibly of being overcharged and ripped off. I never have to worry about that at Brakes Plus! read more

If anyone can suggest a good auto repair who are honest and I would rather give the business to them. That's why integrity stated in their shop is BS no such thing. They will over charge you and find things you don't need as you know they are not there for the people they are there for business . Don't take your car there unless you don't care about money. Made appt on Monday for a Friday appt. Dropped off my car a couple min early. Waited 2.5 hours and never got a call. I called was told it was ready to be picked up. I got a ride to pick up my car. I get here and my car is not only not ready, but hasn't even been inspected. After 20 min a guy comes over to go over what needs to be done?!? Really?!? I confirm that nothing has been done yet and he says that the oil change had been. So I said I don't want anything else done I'd just like to take my car and go home. Fast forward 45 min ... I go find someone to get an update and the guy pulls down the keys that had been sitting there for god knows how long. I didn't get charged for anything, and I'll be completely honest, I'm not sure anything was even done. About a month ago, my car kept stalling when idling too long (like at a stoplight). It took a couple of weeks to figure the problem. I needed a new transmission. Unfortunately, a new transmission is not possible right now. So the Brakes Plus team, specifically Jonathan and Myles (I apologize if I forgot anyone), recommended I bring my car to a transmission specialist to see if just the parts with the issue could be fixed, without me having to buy a new transmission. I was nervous driving my car from Ahwatukee to the transmission shop in Chandler, because it kept stalling at stoplights. Jonathan offered for someone over there to drive my car to Chandler for me. I found out that Myles was the person that drove my car. I've been a customer at this Brakes Plus location since 2013 and have always gotten great service, but this time the team went above and beyond. They didn't have to drive my car to another business, but they helped me. I can't thank them enough! read more

My 04 TL needed an alignment after I put in new rear adjustable camber arms to fix the neg camber after lowering the car on Eibach springs and Koni struts. I went on Yelp and started calling around to different shops to get a 4 wheel alignment quote. Well either the places weren't open on Sat (which was the only day I could really have it done) or the price was on the high side (greater than $150). I called AAA's service place on Arizona ave and the guy there told me to talk to Curtis at the Brakes Plus in Ahwatukee as he is into drifting and can align a lowered car properly. Not only were they open on Sat but the alignment cost $89.00! My TL is driving nice and smoothly now and the tire wear should be nice and even on the rears now. I'll update more after a few hundred miles but so far they did an excellent job! read more

Took my car in cause it was pulling when driving, When I got it back the screen was not working. I was told it had nothing to do with what they did, so I agreed to pay them to fix it. They tried replacing it and the still did not work. I was told to take it to the dealer that it needed to be programmed since they disconnected the battery. Well before I could take it to the dealer the car started pulling again. So I ended up taking it back two more times with the same problem, but the last time I noticed that the check engine light did not come on and it always came on before the car would start pulling and this time it didn't, which I thought that was weird. Well I finally got around to go to the dealer was told they would have to go thru all the wiring to figure out what was wrong with the screen plus the car is not safe to drive cause the car had power when it's off. Oh I forgot to mention in the begining We had paid brakes plus to go thru the wiring to find the problem. Talked to the manager David he said he would call me back and I haven't heard from them. It's been three weeks. When I call he's never there. They tried saying that they don't know if the problem with the screen was previously their already , well it would be noticeable when you turn on the car. So know I have three problems I didn't have when I originally took the car in. The screen, the engine light not coming on and the car having power when off. read more

The technician had to replace a faulty oil filter and they had to steam clean with dye. I went back to Brakes Plus on 5/3/24 and they advised me that timing cover gasket is leaking oil. Cost 2447.86! My car DID NOT leak oil prior going to Brakes Plus. I spoke with the Todd general manager, he was very rude and unprofessional. I will never take my car to Brakes Plus. Brought my truck here because in the past have had ok service this time I was very Disappointed I called 2 days before making a morning appointment to have an alternator and big 3 wire upgrade to give my truck the extra power needed for my led lights and stereo system I Brought my truck in the morning on the scheduled day at 830 am. They told me it would be just a couple of hours I came back to get my truck around 330 pm after running errands and noticed when I got there it was in the bay and had not even been worked on yet the service guy at the counter asked me to follow him outside to look at my truck he then started making excuses about why my truck wasn't ready yet then said I might need a new serpentine belt and it looked old then tells me that would be around 80.00 just to order the belt ....after I bunked him on the fraudulent upsale by telling him I just had it replaced a few weeks ago....he became a bit rude and acted like he couldn't be bothered with me he then said the truck would be done in a bit..... while i was waiting almost 2 more hours....( the bit of time ) i got to sit and observe what goes on there no one seems to know what anyone is doing the mechanics are smoking in the bays maybe 2 mechanics are kinda working while another mechanic is running around the place looking like hes actually doing something productive so after waiting till it was almost 6 pm closing time the service guy tells me my alternator was replaced but they couldn't install the wires for the power upgrade because apparently the wires didn't line up.....don't even know what that was even about then tells me to take it to a stereo shop for that service when I was specifically told they could do it when the alternator was replaced never have i seen the amount of unorganized business practices at a automotive service shop or tried to be sold something I didn't need very unethical and I will not be going back there nothing but shysters there what was supposed to be a 1 or 2 hr job took all day long......just ridiculous... Great service. Woke up to an oil stain under my son's 2007 FJ Cruiser and took it in to Brakes Plus. The tech Luan had it diagnosed as a bad gasket, replaced it and changed the oil quickly and kept me informed the entire way. My first visit I called BP last minute needing a same day appointment for an "affordable " oil change & they were able to accommodate me no problem. The prices are very affordable compared to other places. I love this place from the owner, Allen, down to people on the front and back as the mechanics are very nice and honest to explain what could be wrong or not wrong. They said it would be $3,500 over the phone and I asked him a couple times, then when I came in to pick up my car the document said $2,300 like what the hell!!! I knew it was bs at that moment. Then I decided to get a second opinion from my Lexus dealership and they said THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY CAR!! AT ALL. Brake plus is pathetic and I will never go there again such a joke lol. Where I heard the noise from was from the back of my car for a second but it was just me being cautious. They tried to fix the suspensions in the front of my car no where near where the noise was from lol. I will never go back. I definitely will tell people not to go there. They just want your money! Anonymous: Todd the manager is the smoothest criminal I've ever met! He is so nice and convincing and comes across like he cares and is concerned. In reality he is all about bringing in as much money as the shop can. I went there a few years ago and every time, even with new cars, would come back with things damaged and much higher than original quotes. The mechanics are lousy! I dealt with the regional manager once me he was just as much as a criminal as Todd and his hack brakes plus crew! Stay away from brakes plus on 48th and Chandler!! Don't do it, or you will get taken to the bank every time. Not to mention they will ruin your car! No such thing as a coupon oil change or brakes special. Me: This place was great to me until recently. Took my truck in due to overheating, told me I had a cracked radiator hose, cracked thermostat and a couple other small fixes. Got my truck back that afternoon and noticed a 3 inch dent on my driver door. Called Todd (the manager) out and he told me he'll give me $200 off my next visit. The next day, I noticed something leaking underneath. Took it back in, told me it's just my AC due to the hot weather. The next day I'm driving to work, and my power steering goes out. I pop the hood and noticed there was fluid splattered everywhere underneath the hood. Took it back in (third day in a row) and told me that I had another cracked radiator hose, cracked radiator and my new thermostat was also cracked. Tanner was amazing and helped replace everything no charge and used my $200 credit for the radiator (which pretty sure they cracked it two days before). I finally get my truck back after all that and noticed a loud squeaking sound coming from my belt. Took it BACK IN for the fourth time that week and they told me I needed a new hose. Pretty sure it was damaged due to all the fluid splatter from where they messed up my radiator. After I got my truck back that day, I noticed ANOTHER 2 inch dent/scratch a couple inches away from the previous dent. The following week I had a tire leak. I took it in to someone else and they told me my swing gate was hanging with no bolts due to someone replacing my radiator and not bolting it back correctly causing other problems. I'm pretty furious with the carelessness of Brakes Plus. They also begged me to leave a good review after all that. We took her car to AutoNation Toyota in the summer of 2020 for another issue and they recommend her getting her brakes done because they were shot. Confused, we took her care back to Brakes Plus who showed us the brakes were just fine and AutoNation was most likely just trying to scam us. Since then, we have brought our two cars to Brakes Plus for everything we can have them do. The employees have been nothing but friendly and helpful and our cars run and handle noticeably better after each visit here. Made a 4:00 appointment to get an alignment, I arrived earlier than my appointment time to check in. After checking in I waited 1 hour and the car hadn't even been touched nor had my keys even been taken to the back to be given to a tech. After asking how much longer the guy at the desk said 15-20more minutes so I asked him for my keys and left. It was not busy there were 3 cars total there and way more than 3 techs there. I have used this location for several repairs that were done to satisfaction. This negative review concerns customer service. After the last work done on my car, the shift mechanism was stiff. I made an appointment to have this looked at, as was suggested by them. I took the car in; was not advised how long it would take to have someone look at the issue, sat waiting for more than 1/2 hour before I decided to leave. I walked in today at 9:30am to check my brakes. I was told there is a long wait time, a few hours, but I can setup an appointment so I don't have to wait. I had other work in the area to do, so that sounded great. I setup an appointment with Angel for 1pm. I walk in at 1pm, different guy, I am informed there is no appointment listed. I provide my info again to check the car in. I am told the wait is a few hours. I ask about the appointment I setup in the morning. I am told "They are short-handed and it will be a few hours. My car wouldn't start after not having used it for a week so I went to a place to have it checked. The diagnostic result was a good battery but faulty alternator, but they wouldn't do the job. I came to Brakes Plus after contacting Eddie on the phone, who btw was super friendly, and told me to swing by to have my car checked. They quickly found out both the battery and alternator were fine, and the main issue was a loose battery cable and terminal oxidation. They tightened it up, cleaned the battery terminals and applied a solution to prevent them from oxidizing. I was good to go in just 15 minutes!. I want to thank them for being honest about the issue and super quick in helping me out. Absolutely recommend this place if you want to have an issue with your car fixed or just to do regular maintenance. read more

Took my vehicle in to the shop at 48th and Chandler in Phoenix for an oil change and to check on an illuminated check engine light. Insisted on charging a $99 diagnostic fee even though the error code was stored. Error code showed a cat converter issue. Shop's suggested solution was to replace both cat converters and manifolds, the fuel air sensor and the three oxygen sensors to the tune of $3400. I did not bite based upon some previous experience with the shop. Took the vehicle to Midas. No diagnostic fee. Replaced one oxygen sensor for about $600. Vehicle running just fine. I won't be using any Brakes's Plus again. Either incompetent or just plain dishonest. Too much overselling. I say unethical. You can be your own judge. read more
