Superior, CO location: Wrote all the details in my appointment notes, then remembered how often this shop has turned me away because no one read the notes, ordered parts, or planned ahead. Called the shop a week before my appointment, they reassured me they'd have everything in stock, and it would be about a half hour service. Today I was told it would be a two hour service. Waited around for half an hour before they realized they did NOT have the parts in stock, and couldn't get them anytime soon. Was asked to come back in another time, and plan on leaving my car with them day. I tried to do as much of their job for them as I could, but their incompetence/laziness still prevailed. read more

DO NOT USE THIS BRAKES PLUS LOCATION!!!! I recently got an oil change, new brakes, and rotors, and you would think your car would come out sounding and feeling better than ever while driving. Absolutely not, complete opposite. After driving away, I realized how bad it sounded and immediately turned around to let them know. They kept my car for another day, took it on some drives, EVEN ADMITTED TO HEARING THE SOUND while in the car with me driving, and just said "it's road noise" and that they couldn't find anything that would be causing the noise. Now, it does not take being a mechanic to know the difference between road noise and knowing something is off with a car you've been driving for 3+ years. It's a constant not super loud flapping noise that had never been there before. So after paying them nearly $500, I have to go get it looked at by ANOTHER mechanic to see what they messed up to cause the "road noise". After this experience, I will ALWAYS use a trusted local mechanic or mechanics at the Ford locations. Also, how do you mess up a Ford?! Do yourself a favor and find anywhere else to do business with. read more

I've had 3 major events and for each one they got me in quickly, were able to diagnose the problem and repair in a very timely manner. On my way to work on a snowy January morning, my tire separated from my wheel (due to low tire pressure combined with low temperatures). While there was no other tire store close by, I decided to stop into brakes plus because I knew that they would at least be able to check it out. They generously changed my ruined tire to my spare tire and referred me to the closest tire store for a repair. They did all of this very quickly, kindly, and without charging. I booked an online appointment for 11:00 am. They told me when I got here that it would take 2 hours. I said I would stay. I could see that they hadn't even looked at it in 2 hours so I walked to lunch. I got back at 3:00 and they were just starting to look at it. They told me it would need new rotors. One of the reasons I brought this in to brakes plus was because they did the last brake job and I thought something would be under warranty. I saved about 60 bucks but they more than made up for it with the overpriced rotors and labor. All total I waited six hours for what they told me would take two hours. I was not the only one. Several other people were told that they couldn't get to their car that day or that they had to come back in a few more hours. It's completely unacceptable to give estimates that far off. It's their job to know how long things take. And their internet was like dial-up so I couldn't even get work done. Never again. read more

I have a 2003 BMW Z4 and needed an alignment since I got new tires from the Costco close by. Since BMW likes to let you go anywhere for an alignment, I know that adjusting the rear camber requires a special tool that very few auto places have (excepting of course BMW dealerships), so I called in advance to see if they had this special tool. The person I spoke to said they did - wonderful I thought! Instead of driving my car to a far away dealership to pay twice the price, I can get it done here, right? The fun begins once I dropped off my car. First off, alignments on my car typically take 45 mins to an hour. So how long did I have to wait? 2.5 hours! Now here's the good part... I go to check out and they inform me at checkout that they couldn't complete the alignment since they didn't have a special tool to adjust the rear camber. I proceeded to inform them that the person I talked to on the phone said they did have this tool. They asked me his name and when I didn't know it, they treated me as if it was my fault since I couldn't prove it to them. They did decide to give me half off, which I would say was fair and nice of them, except wait a second, I'm still going to have to pay full price to get an alignment somewhere else... So in the end, I guess I just wasted my money and time for - uh - nothing? And what made them decide to wait until the very end to inform me they couldn't do the alignment? To add insult to injury, as I start getting onto the interstate, I notice my hood moving up and down. I immediately pull off and realize they never fully closed the hood!! Had I not caught that, it would have been a matter of time until the hood flew off my car and caused a pile-up on the interstate!! So my suggestion to you... Don't trust these guys with changing your oil - let alone something more complex. On a positive note, I looked up another Brakes Plus (in Evans) that got terrific reviews, took my car there, and they were SO much better! So it's not that the company as a whole is horrible - just this location. read more

Friendly folks who will happily overcharge you. Went in for an alignment, and after waiting an hour, they brought me back to let me know they'd done nothing because I needed a wheel bearing. They quoted the bearing at $300 and the labor at $300. The Toyota stealership only charges $200 for an OEM bearing, and I found it at one of the other service shops for only $100. Proud of myself for saving $200, I returned to Brakes Plus expecting $300 in labor to swap the bearing, and found out it would be $450 because they jack up their labor rates if you use your own part because one way or another, they are determined to steal your hard-earned dollar. I would recommend them for standard service like alignments, but for ANY repairs, go to one of the shops in Louisville. Edit: To "Beepie" the business owner: stop asking the 1-star reviewers to email you. Just be better to future customers. Charge fair prices and stop with the scare tactics. read more

I was on an extended RV trip and mooch docking at my daughter's house in Boulder. I was doing a day trip up and the mountains and heard what sounded like brake wear indicator noise 2x under very mild braking and then nothing further. I babied the brakes until I could get back to Boulder where I could get them properly inspected. I tried a couple places midmorning but they were already booked for the day. The service writer at Brakes Plus offered me a first thing next morning appointment the next morning and I jumped on it. I showed-up at 7:45 a.m. for an 8:00 a.m. appointment and, when they opened the door, I was first in. They took my vehicle right in and I waited there in their nice waiting area with power outlets and WiFi for my laptop. An appropriate amount of time later the service writer told me that my front and rear brakes were fine, but the original socks were tired and one of the rear shocks was leaking. Since the shocks weren't a huge safety item like worn out brakes would have been, I deferred dealing with them until I return home in a couple of months. I felt so relieved to know my brakes were OK. The brake and shock inspection was free. I was glad I read the reviews and went to an honest repair shop. read more

I took my Honda CRV here to get my brakes checked today. I was told that my front brakes needed brake pads and my rear brakes needed pads and rotors. Estimate stated that front pads are at 4mm and rear pads are at 3mm and cannot be machined without going past the discard limit. They also tacked on a break flush and handed me an estimate for $649.76. I decided to go for a 2nd opinion in Louisville and learned that both front and rear brakes were only 60% worn. They still had at least another 5,000 miles of life left. The employees at Brakes Plus are crooks and are examples of give the auto repair industry a bad name! Stay clear of his place and always get a 2nd opinion when you get handed a estimate for over $600! read more

They were able to fix all of our problems with in a couple of hours. Luckily their storage for parts was near by so we did not have to wait long or days to fix our car! This came very handy to us since we were travelers who just drove from the other side of the country and would have been staying here a lot longer due to our car having break problems. I will never go back to this place! I went in for just an oil change. While waiting for the vehicle I noticed that it sat up on the rack for over 45 minutes close to an hour??? No one working on it?? It was over an hour and a half close to two hours before they were done. My 2003 Honda S-2000 is in showroom condition. After a few weeks I decided to put a trickle charge on the battery which I do every now and then since I don't drive it daily. Low and behold I saw that the oil filler cap was at the back of the engine and oil was splattered all over my prestine usually spotless engine. They left the cap OFF!! Beware, these people will make up things that need to be done to your car, and then try to overcharge you for the parts to do the repair. They picked the wrong guy to fool when they told my gearhead son his truck needed work. He is under that vehicle 3 times a week and knows it like the back of his hand. After they told him the Toyota's rack was leaking (BTW - it isn't leaking, it is bone-dry, do these guys even look at the car they are making stories up about?) the manager offered to sell him a new one at a 50% increase over the cost of one, wait for it, he can buy directly from Japan. Ordered 4-wheel alignment, but they did not deliver. Said that the "adjustment bolts" were frozen- but charged me anyway. A reputable repair place would have unfrozen the bolts, and if unable yo do the job, not charged me for basically wasting my time. In addition, the of course tried go add on additional parts on the $212.00 brake job I ordered, but I wouldn't have it. Canceled the order. Do yourself a favor, find a premium quality repair place, if you expect quality work. You will not save money at Brakes Plus, and your repair will be second rate. read more

This is a great Brakes Plus location. It's clean and spacious. The staff and crew are honest and friendly. I only had to get my front brakes replaced. I will come back later for rear brakes. They noticed a parking light bulb that I had out and replaced it as a courtesy. I appreciate places like this and they will have my business from here on out. read more

I don't trust these guys. I went in because I knew my front brakes were shot -- they were squealing and shimmying and know enough about brakes to know they needed replacing. They did that and I'm generally happy with those brakes. No problem with that part -- now where I do have problems. They definitely upsold me on parts that I question whether needed replacement. However, I can't complain because I didn't get a second opinion and I told them to go ahead with it. Now, here is where I had a problem. I hesitated to go with the repair they suggested -- so during the conversation the guy bumped down the price by $30. Ok, that helps... but then they offered a ride to work so I could leave the car there for a day (as is standard at most repair shops). That's great but I live in Boulder and work in Arvada -- which is too far for a courtesy ride -- so they offered to rent a car for me. This is very nice and all, but if they can knock off $30 from the repair and then give me a $30-$40 car rental on top of it, then how much are they ripping me off that they are still making a good profit off of the repair? I understand economics, but that tells me they were overcharging me. I went ahead with it simply because I wanted it done, but the high-pressure sales and showing me they were charging me too much turned me off. Next, my car started having brakes that were sticking. I figured this was their fault so I brought it back in. They found that my right rear brake was shiny and gripping the wheel tight so that it wasn't even spinning when they pushed the accelerator while the car was on the rack. They suggested replacing the right rear brake. I wanted to, but it was near the holidays so cash was tight and I asked to bring it back after the holidays. They said fine and I was on my way. When I found time to get the car in once again, they made no mention of the right rear brake and told me it was the e-brake cable lever getting stuck. Why two different diagnoses? Why don't you know enough about brakes at a place called BRAKES PLUS to be able to diagnose the problem the same 2 times in a row? Luckily, I didn't need this problem fixed so I was out of there with an oil change and no charge to reset the stuck lever, but seriously -- diagnose a brake problem correctly - that's what I pay you for. On top of that, they gave me an attitude about my sway bar links being broken. They want to replace that for me and I keep declining because I don't have the cash at the moment and because I don't trust them to do it right. Thanks for the diagnosis! I'm taking it to John's Auto in Boulder (where I used to go for all of my service) for a second opinion and where I know they'll do the job right. Seriously, just go in and talk to John sometime -- he'll earn your trust in a matter of minutes (no I don't work for John, I just have a lot of trust in his work and his opinion!). Scheduled appt to have them look at brakes after exorbitant quote from dealer. Was told it takes ~60 mins to quote the work, which defies the entire point of an appointment. Choose to hang around with the goal of saving cash. 45 mins later and car hadn't moved - with half of their bays open mind you. Finally decided I'd given them enough of my day for no reason or value returned and it became Keystone Cops when asked for my keys. If you don't value your time, maybe this is the right place for you - cause they don't either. read more

I really like these guys! I took my car here about a month ago to have the brakes checked. Their prices were very reasonable, their staff was knowledgeable and friendly. I noticed that their synthetic oil change was much more reasonably priced than the places I had been having it done for the last couple years. Today, I got the first appointment and they got me in and out in half an hour, used a $10 coupon and got great customer service and full synthetic oil change for a very reasonable price.
