I recently moved here from California and shortly after arriving my AC went out, which is the last thing you want to deal with in this heat. I brought my car into Brakes Plus and was greeted by Mark, who was very welcoming and professional from the start. Originally I was quoted for one issue, but after taking a deeper look they found out the problem was actually bigger and that the compressor needed to be replaced. Even though it turned out to be a larger repair than expected, the team did a great job explaining everything clearly and keeping me informed. When I came back to pick up my car, Mark happened to be out of the office, but David stepped in and took great care of me. Both of them were exceptional and made sure the whole process went smoothly. The communication throughout the entire experience was excellent, and the mechanics clearly knew what they were doing. My AC is now blowing colder than it ever has before and the car feels great. We have been taking our vehicle here for over 6 months for oil changes, a tune up, and other engine issues. Service seemed fine until our check engine light keeps coming on. When we last took it in, they charged us of services for over $400 that had already been done. After reviewing our receipts, we called and we got a full refund. We appreciate the refund, but won't be back. Was the service not even done the first time? Are the mechanics not knowing what they are doing? Not sure. read more

I'm a mechanic of 28 years I work for dealerships and even brake shops. I am ASE certified. I am also retired from the business, as I have found other businesses to be involved with, and was tired of hurting my back and working long hours in the Arizona summers. Because of this while I do work on my own cars, having four kids and wife I cannot work on everybody's car at home I don't have the time, so I was looking for a place for them to go. My son got a car. The brake pedal was low. Having sold my tools and not even having tools at home I could diagnose it properly, but it felt like a bad master cylinder. I spent $160 on a master cylinder and installed it myself and bulleted properly. There was no change in the bed. There was obviously another issue probably at one of the wheels but I took it to them to figure out. I was told they would like to bleed it, which is actually not a poor practice when somebody else has tampered with the system and they have no idea whether it was a professional job or not, but in many cases, people who work on their own stuff at home do not know what they are doing properly so they get an A+ for bleeding it first. They told me it was going to be 89 bucks and I knew it was blood properly but I understood the position so I said OK. They call back in about two hours, and said that they didn't get any air out and there's no change in the pedal. They would like to take the master cylinder out and dip the booster. I've been a mechanic for almost 30 years I've never heard of the term dip the booster , so I asked what that meant. He said it meant seeing if there's fluid in the booster. Well, this happens when the master cylinder leaks down into the booster. I was just in there I could tell you there was no fluid and I just replaced the master cylinder, so no it is not leaking. He said well that's where we want to start and if that happens in the master cylinder is good we're thinking it's a booster. I don't mean to get all technical on people who don't know cars but I said wait a minute what do you mean you think it's a booster a booster would cause a hard pedal, not a soft pedal which this vehicle has a problem with. He said well that's where they want to start. We're not saying we're gonna replace the booster. We're just saying that's where we're gonna start. I said, but you're not giving me the confidence that you know what you're doing when you say Replace the booster because of a soft metal and as in almost 30 ASE certified tech I'm telling you a bad booster causes a hard pedal. Insisted that's where we need to start. I said screw it I'm coming to pick up my vehicle. I picked it up. I called an old friend of mine who happened to work at brake masters in Peoria, off of the 101 and Peoria Ave. He said bring it in. It took him a few hours. He was having a difficult time finding the issue as well. However, after a few hours he called me and said we found the problem. The front calipers were seized. Then it all made sense. They were seized in a way , in which the piston on the caliper was extending further than it was designed to do so, that made the pedal travel further and go lower. He cleaned it up for me and moved it properly, and I was on my way. My concern, and why I write reviews like this on auto shops that do this to me occasionally is that I feel a sense of duty as a long time very honest automotive technician to bring this type of issue to light for the public. More than half the population does not have the knowledge I have, and understand when they're being told something that is incorrect, and will not fix the problem. Imagine all that I would've paid just for them to keep searching in the wrong area. This is not rocket science if you understand brakes which a brake shop, most certainly should if anything else, then you would know not to try and sell me a booster for a soft pedal. It's worth noting I'm really bad with names and I don't remember the guys name I spoke to I think maybe it was Brandon at brakes plus I don't know but I believe that was the name. He was just another guy upfront that had no mechanical experience who shops put there to sell things to you, I see this all the time in the business. You're better off going to a place where a long time mechanic has now opened up a place and deals with the customers. I recommend brake masters off of the 101 and Peoria Avenue which my friend there his name is also Brandon. he is the manager and will take care of you. Another shop I would recommend is Michael's auto repair off of grand Avenue and 91st Ave. I've known him a long time and I used to work for him is an honest mechanic who does not have sales people upfront they don't know what they're talking about. Hands down the ONLY shop I will ever trust my vehicles at from this point forward unless of course it's something they don't work on. After a nightmare of issues with my sons vehicle and the lack of care to actually do the full diagnostic we paid for at a nearby dealership we had been at for electrical issues we had our car sent to brakes plus after being towed home thirty minutes after the dealer said everything was great. Come to find out while the electronic issue (key) was fixed by the dealer they did not do a full diagnostic because if they had in that three days they had three car they'd of caught the unconnected wiring to the alternator hence why the car shut off. Brakes plus found this out in a few hours. Not only did Brakes plus do a electrical check again just to be safe, they also did a full diagnostic, tightening a lose hose that was leaking fluid, explained how to stop the small exhaust leak without replacing the entire piping. All for only labor cost. Number one they were HONEST that nothing was wrong with the alternator and they checked the old one once connected and it holds a charge perfectly fine. They saved our family hundreds of dollars. Mark Purcell and all of his team are amazing and their honesty and work ethic has our family a customer for life. I will tell all I know. Car repairs are the worst and when you have to get them done you need someone trustworthy that cares about your safety after you leave the shop. Thank you Brake's Plus. Wow! The customer service is exceptional! They tell you what is wrong, show it to you, warranty the parts, Mark at the desk is phenomenal, and they have free coffee. While my truck was being looked at they constantly kept me updated. Another customer was here and they looked at his car and never charged him a dime. They spent at least an hour on his car. Attended the grand opening of this store with a friend who needed an oil change and was really impressed by the staff and their knowledge of vehicles that I decided to take my car in when it needed servicing. Today I brought my Dodge Charger in for a routine oil change and was in and out in just a little over an hour. David received my car and I picked it up from Mark. Came in for a simple brake job, quoted me 800 and tried to add on a couple more thousand in other repairs. They said it would be ready the next day only for them to call me and said they haven't even started and they'd need to replace my entire brake system. Great service, friendly guys who know their trade. I know my way around a car and they didn't suggest anything unneeded. The price was reasonable. If I had a complaint it would be length of time. Needing repairs on your vehicle can be stressful, but they really put you at ease, and get the work done in a timely manner.
