We got the lemongrass chicken rice bowl for lunch prior to getting on the ferry. We weren't a fan of the sauce and found the chicken a bit too dry and wished there was a bit more lemongrass taste. We've been here previously for their ice cream and with them serving Earnest ice cream from the mainland, we would recommend, however we were disappointed in our lunch meal this time around. read more

My friends and I were hungry after a morning of boating so we stopped in here for a smoked salmon toast and ice cream. For a warm summer day this was so perfect before getting back on our boat. My friend brought her pug with us on our outing and he made friends with many other sweet fur babies on the dock. It was a hot day so luckily there was some shade by the picnic benches. Note there are no restrooms whatsoever on the dock. There is only one stall in the washroom for the ferry and no public restrooms in the welcome center nearby - is hardly call it a welcome center with a sign for no public restrooms in the window! read more

I really wanted to like this place because I know just how hard it can be to run a business on this ill-fated pier. Located on the pier just north of where the ferry docks in Snug Cove, the poor business folk trying to make a go of it here have an uphill climb. They say success in business is all about "location, location, location" and this pier, even with all its recent upgrades and improvements, is a terrible location. Let me explain, when the ferry docks and the throngs of tourists come marching off the planks all their vision is going up Trunk Road, the main road that runs up the hill from Snug Cove and past the majority of businesses on the island, at least the tourist related ones. Along this road, you will find restaurants, gift shops, candy stores, pubs and a marina, all very tourist friendly. But Branch and Butter is located on the other pier, the one that none of the tourists seem to notice till they are on their way home and don't have any time to visit. You have to make a complete U-turn to enter this pier when exiting the ferry, something very few visitors do. It's not just the location that holds back B&B tho, it's a few other things as well. Their main claim to fame is the fancy toast they make there, there's even a hand-made sign on the outside extolling the virtues of eating toast and the dream of having a "toast club" one day. Apparently that 'day' is only on the weekends because their main menu item is only available two days a week. If you're going to build your business around toast, you'd better offer it every day you're open. Their other offering is Ernest Ice Cream that comes with a price tag that makes even some of the tourists wince. You walk out with a small scoop and the feeling that you've just bought something from an airport. And you walk out because even with all the doors and windows open in B&B it is akin to a summer sauna after only a couple of minutes. The businesses come and go rather rapidly on this pier (except for the kayak spot which doesn't have to rely on walk-ins for its business) and I don't see B&B being here for the long haul, it's too bad because in another location, even on Bowen, Branch & Butter could be a great idea. read more

New owners, new food, same awesome ice cream. Food is now fresh, amazing tacos!! Tried three of them today, loved each. Korean style brisket beef and sweet potato vegetarian were my favourites. Stopped by for a quick lunch during our first visit to Bowen Island! This is a super quaint and hip little eatery that specializes in toast and ice cream from Earnest. Although their selection is minimal, what they offer is very delicious. (Side note: Attached to this place you'll also find a cute space that showcases home goods and a small selection of specially curated items like ceramics, coffee table books and a mix of accessories). Now on to the food--we decided on a mix of savoury and sweet so we sampled their smoked salmon with cream cheese on toast and a blueberry ricotta and basil toast, each priced at a reasonable $7. The bread was fresh, thick-cut, and not actually toasted (but it didn't need to be) because it held up well to the substantial toppings. All in all, it made for a nice light lunch and the food and picturesque scenery made for a pleasant experience! read more

Open air eating on the Pier, it's a beautiful and chill vibe. Watch the boats and ferry, sealife and kayakers. Good people-watching there and a mix of friendly locals and tourists. Premium Vancouver icecream is worth the pricetag even vegan options ( I loved the vegan cardamom). The young staff were super friendly and hardworking, they wore masks too. The tacos were delicious and fresh. I would ask for less onions next time as they overpowered the taste of the fillings. read more

I keep coming back for more! Tasty toast/sandwiches, top shelf ice cream, friendly staff, and a killer location. This is my summer go-to. Pretty much the only place you can get Ernest ice cream and not have to wait 45 minutes. Super cute store and friendly staff. Didn't love the amount of flies inside. They had a great range of hot sauce options for the tacos but the bugs were feasting on them, especially the ones with the lids left off. read more

I had the best taco of my life at the Branch. The salmon taco is crazy good. There is plenty of seating out on the patio overlooking the quaint Snug Cove dock area. The service was slow, but well worth the wait. read more
