The job itself was quite a challenge, the bottle was jammed in the trap of the toilet so after the toilet was removed and flipped over, it still took about an hour of perseverance to twist and break the bottle until it was able to be pulled out. We had to hire a lawyer to get them to finish…read more Initially, we were delighted with Seal the Deal. Their quote was a good price and they even found a better plan for the install that cost us less money. The install was great; the township inspector actually said it was one of the cleaner installs he'd seen. We love our new heat pump and everything is working great. If we'd stopped there, this would be a five star review. However, they still needed to fix a couple of things, remove our old oil tank and give us the purchase information for the warranty on the system. At that point, all communication stopped. They did not respond to phone calls or texts for several months until, on a hunch, I called them from a different number. One of the owners actually picked up, PRETENDED TO HAVE PHONE PROBLEMS, and hung up on me. At that point, we hired a lawyer. It took more time, but eventually they did make good on their promises. And, to be fair, they didn't ask for the remaining money we owed them but we had to pay the lawyer so financially it was a wash for us. To sum up: install-fabulous, aftercare-absolutely terrible. As it is, I would not recommend Seal the Deal unless they get someone else doing the scheduling.

We got…read more7 estimates, ranging from companies that advertise on KYW and the back of SEPTA buses to smaller one man shops. We ended up selecting King HVAC and I'm really glad that we did. He offered us a modulating furnace and A/C for the same price as what another big player offered (they were selling a 2 stage system). His warranty was also beyond the standard 10/1, it was 13 years parts, 3 years labor. He sells Bryant, which is the same thing as Carrier. Wifi thermostat, he's running new gas lines for us, the whole thing. He's very professional and carried a book with him that included photos of his install. He pointed out where he would put the condensation sensors, how he would route the lineset, the whole thing.. which impressed me. He's also very accessible over the phone and pretty responsive over e-mail. Joe and his Dad spent a day and a half installing the system and were just awesome. Finally, two or three years later, we had a problem after a thunderstorm where the AC wouldn't run. I called him and he was able to swing by with only a few hours notice on a Sunday. He found that one of the circuit breakers was reset or maybe bad. He just flipped it back on and stuck around for a few minutes to make sure it was all good. Best part? No charge and he was here for probably a half hour on a Sunday. You can see the difference between a small operation like Joe and a larger place that advertises everywhere. The real value is in supporting a small business and you're rewarded with great customer service compared to the big, nameless companies.

He reiterated that we didn't need to change out our current equipment but if we feel it's important for environmental reasons there are good options. We'll definitely be using them going forward, and have a fall furnace checkup scheduled.

On the first cold day this winter he claims the heater is all rusted out in the exchanger and has to be replaced, along with the entire system because a new heater can't work with an old air conditioner. Our neighbor suggested we call their guy. He's been in business for 30 years. Needless to say, the heater was not rusted he showed me the unit was very dirty, the fan motor and wheel were clogged with dirt and there were two dead birds in the chimney. The outside air conditioner was only 10 years old. I'm convinced SK had never done anything other than collect their fee and try to sell stuff we didn't want or need.
