Follow on to my earlier review after almost a year of taking my cars to Kevin several times. I am still more than satisfied. He is honest, knowledgeable, quick, responsive and responsible. He's worked on both my BMW and my VW GTI, and has done exceptional and timely work every time. His estimates are clear and accurate, and when there was a manufacturer's problem with brake pads he'd installed he honored the warranty even though I dawdled in getting the car back to him so long he himself was unable to get the part warrantied. I Found this new auto repair shop on my way to Costco for gas. Stop by and spoke to Tony about my car problem. I was very impressive the way this auto shop set up. It's like an auto dealer. except the labor rate is much lower than the dealer. It's more affordable to me. And I don't know much about automotive equipment. But all their equipments looks very professional. My car has this CHECK ENGINE & ASC light on for a long time, I've been taking it to several different Shop tried to get the issue fixed. They claimed the problem is fixed. And charged me hundress. But same problem coming back within a week. I kept on taking it back but the problem never get fixed. I don't trust them anymore. Tony diagnosed the problem correctly with one hour and on the first try. Offered a solution that saved me from buying an $850 part. These guys are the real deal, very professional and very knowledgeable. If you want to save money on car repairs, do yourself a favor and go to these guys. I wished I could have found this kind of repair shop earlier. I already spent close to $500 to different shops to trouble shoot and tried to fixed this issue. Kevin is awesome, fast and great. I took my car in thinking I was going to have major transmission fix. Kevin called me in a few hours it was a simple diagnostic and repair. He even had the part available, I've taken it for years to the dealership and they never have the part. I asked if he could rotate my tires while it was there "of course" he said. I picked it up the next day even though it was ready the same day. Kevin explained the work he had done I am still amazed and telling all my friends how quick, easy and inexpensive my repair was. Also he didn't try and upsell me on future repairs like the dealership used to do, he had me on my way in minutes. I would recommend Brannan Auto Experts to anyone! Kevin is great. Really knowledgeable, really personable and really makes the whole unpleasant event of having to get your car fixed as pleasant as it could possibly be. Kevin fixed a battery/alternator/starter issue that three other shops couldn't even figure out the cause of. He is consistently hundreds of dollars cheaper than other repair shops, he's a one man show and shares garage space so he can keep his cost low. He always communicates with me throughout the day and let's me know how things are going and when he thinks he may finish the work. And he consistently has gone above and beyond to make my experience more pleasant; a ride to the rental car place or even I car wash - a perk usually only received at the expensive dealer! - one time when my ride was especially filthy. But most of all, I really appreciate that he doesn't treat me like a girl! He takes the time to open the hood and show me exactly what went wrong and how he fixed it - which I love, I'm a total closet gearhead - and I leave with confidence and a little more knowledge! My car broke down at Costco so I called the nearest auto shop which was this one and Tony told me to bring my car in. My car was smoking from the hood and there was a leaking fluid in my engine. I also needed to do a maintenance check on my car before my road trip down to LA. I got my car towed to Brannan the same day and Tony was able to get everything down by the next day under 24 hrs! There was something wrong with the transmission fluid and I needed to have that replaced. He called me with my estimate so I didn't have to wait there during the inspection and was able to go home as soon as I dropped off my car. Tony then texted me the next day when my car was ready to be picked up. I came in the next day for another check up to see if everything was fixed and am still able to take my car down to LA :) read more

HONEST, EXCELLENT, EFFICIENT SERVICE AT THE BEST PRICES. As a female, I used to always worry about being overcharged or lied to, but after meeting Kevin and team at Brannan Auto Experts, I take my car in with any paranoia and he always eases my worries with HONEST, and efficient service. I've gone in convinced I needed new brakes and he's told me I still had more than 50% remaining on my brake pads, and a few other incidents where he could have provided costly and unnecessary services, but didnt. He tells you what's wrong (or not wrong) and really knows his stuff. I did need $700 work done on a large leak but I didn't even bother getting a second opinion. After dealing with Kevin and team for over two years I knew he'd given me the best price and service. Businesses like this should be PRAISED AND SUPPORTED! I was extremely pleased with the service I received at Brannan Auto Experts, which I chose based on reviews from other Yelpers. I had a 1996 Honda Civic that got a fender bender. The folks at Brannan not only helped me keep the costs down (since insurance clearly wasn't worth the effort) by finding junked parts, but they went out of their way and held my car for a few extra days as I was out of town on a business trip and couldn't pick it up right away. Their job of paint matching with the new fender was perfect, and everything was done much faster than I would have thought. While the place looks a bit funky, the folks there are quite professional and they are worth all the 5-star ratings they get. read more

Great guys, great work, and a great price. I took my car to Kevin to get a part replaced on my front suspension, and Kevin quoted me 2 hours labor, while other shops were quoting me 4+. The other shops had to look in their computer for a quote, whereas Kevin knew exactly what the issue was, and therefore was able to give me a realistic quote. I'll definitely come back here if I need anything mechanical done again. read more

My wife's 2007 Lexus IS250 started making noises, and given that Dealerships are usually pricier than third party auto shops, we wanted to find a good mechanic for her to start going to instead of the Dealership since her car was getting a little old. I found Brannan Auto on yelp, and given the good ratings, decided to give them a try. We met Tony, and tried to explain the noises occurring somewhere on the right, rear side of the car. Tony initially didn't hear any noises while driving the car around, but through his visual inspection, he was able to find a loose pin near the brakes, which happened to be very concerning. Very glad he was able to locate our issue given the limited information we could tell him. He texted us photos as soon as he found the issue, and he was able to replace the parts the same day. The prices were very reasonable, the communication was great, and Tony was very trustworthy. Very happy with the service. read more

I hate to be the rotten apple amongst the 5 star reviews that others have put but I have taken my car here twice and received lack luster service on both occasions. Issue 1: Leak with the coolant. Brought the car in on Friday and Kevin said he would have to work on it on Monday. Left the car there for the weekend and enjoyed MUNI. On Monday at 2:00 PM Kevin informs me that the part that they ordered did not come in and that they would have to keep the car for another day. If I may ask, why didn't you order the part on Friday to ensure that you would get it on Monday? Having to be at work by 6:00 AM in SOMA is a real pain in the butt when you don't have a car. Let's just say that two days of having to wake up a family member at 5:00 Am was not pleasant for me or the family member. I'm also fairly certain that he gives a overgenerous (to himself) markup on the parts, which I am pretty sure are not OEM. Coolant tank - 75. Coolant tank price online - 50. Coolant hose - 50. Coolant hose price online - 35. I was rather apprehensive after this visit but since it was close to my workplace and the yelp reviews were stellar I figured I could give them another chance with my next visit. This was an expensive mistake. My service engine light turned on and I took it back to Brannan. It cost about 400 dollars but I think it should have been only 200 as I had a similar problem with the camshaft position sensor a year before. First off, he charged 105 for each camshaft sensor. Online you can find it for 55 dollars. I could have gotten both camshaft sensors online for the price of one of his! Even though the diagnosis showed that only one camshaft sensor was affected, he claimed that both of the sensors appeared to be "old" and should be fixed at the same time. I just wish I could have found my old repair bill that showed that one of the camshaft position sensors was already fixed. His diagnosis was 95 dollars. If you know a thing about cars, you'll know that all you have to do is hook up a reader to the OBDII in the car and it will give you the error. Please tell me how 5 minutes of work in plugging a sensor into a slot next to the trunk latch should cost me 95 dollars. The actual repair labor was 75 dollars. This is reasonable but I feel that the diagnosis and repair labor should have only taken an hour (which it probably took him, or even less time for that matter). In essence, a simple repair that should have only cost 150 dollars (which was how much I paid the last time I got the camshaft sensor repaired) winded up costing me 400 dollars this time. Sorry Brannan Auto Expert, but I'm going somewhere else next time. Edit: 3 months later I'll admit that 1 star was a bit draconian but I still do not feel the same way that every other reviewer feels about this shop. Just trying to provide some perspective. read more

Got my radiator replaced on a Mini cooper at this garage, after I had a leak, and I have to say, Kevin was great. Identified the issue very quick, told me the cost and what it was, dealt with my premium insurance for the repair, ordered and replaced the part. I do recommend this garage and Kevin is the guy. I have been taking my car to Kevin in SF for years. Now that this San Leandro location is closer to my home, I started coming here instead. Kevin is at this location Saturdays. Tony who's mainly at this location is as equally capable. They are very professional. I always have the peace of mind bringing my car to their service knowing I'd get the best quality of work with the most reasonable price. I highly recommend their shops. About a month ago, my engine started "ticking" and I knew this was the beginning of something bad. I took my truck to Brannan Auto and spoke to "Tony". He agreed to do a diagnostic check without charging me a cent. He determined that I had blown a rod and that the engine would have to be replaced. I was dejected. Tony was kind enough to talk me through my options; the cost of a re-built engine, the option of buying a new truck, financing options, even the pros and cons of renting a vehicle or using Uber. He was very personable. He didn't sound like someone trying to justify costs. He spoke to me as if I were someone he knew and was simply laying out the structure of the transaction. I later got several other estimates, but none could beat Tonys'. Long story short, I had Tony replace the engine. While I waited for the completion, Tony checked in on me almost every other day with updates. Although, the repairs took a couple of days longer than estimated, Tony gave me a $$ credit for those days lost. Listen, I'm not someone who trusts a lot of people, especially repair facilities, but Tony genuinely impressed me. He was very clear, personable, and respectful. I have my truck back and I'm happy I had Brannan Auto do the work. Oh, Tony also asked that I bring my truck back after 500 miles for a free review, just to make sure everything is fine. I recently had some care problems (overheating engine) and I was told by the dealer service rep as well as another mechanic that I need to get a coolant flush. The interesting thing is, the 1st mechanic I went to didn't even notice the tube came undone when he changed my oil the day prior. I took my car to Kevin and he quickly told me that air got into the radiator and told me I had two options - 1st) get the air out 2) coolant flush. He said he'd attempt the first and if unable to do so he would flush the coolant. Turns out he was able to get the air out and he even test drove my car on the highway to make sure the overheating issues I had were resolved. He charged me 1/2 hour's worth of work (even though I know it took longer than that). Kevin was extremely helpful in educating me about the issue and options. He explained everything thoroughly and made sure to run things be me before doing any work. Skilled, honest, and efficient mechanics are hard to come by and I will be sure to come to him with any issues I have going forward. read more

Kevin is the man!! I hate all car problems and have a huge fear of bring my car in because I don't know anything about fixing them and am always afraid it is going to cost a fortune. I had been putting off taking in my car after my transmission had been acting a little funny but finally when my schedule maintenance light came on I decided it was time to bring it in. Kevin was very friendly and told me upfront about the costs associated with the diagnostic and then when he figured it out he helped me fix the problem without trying to gauge me for changing out my whole transmission! Kevin is a mechanic that I trust, he is quick, and professional. Now, one of these trait alone is very easy to find, but if you put these traits together in a person, and throw them out in the open, well, it's 1 in a million! Anyway to what happened. My engine started to make a knocking sound, while driving, because of a bad oil change, and kevin immediately knew what the problem was. Although I did not get this problem fixed by kevin because I wanted to attempt to fix it myself, he was correct on where the problem was coming from! AMAZING. just by listening to the car where as the other mechanics I went to, told me it was my suspension (?!?!?!) or my exhaust was blown.. i didnt know exhausts made a knocking sound when blown, we anyway. good ear and good guy. Also very funny, and loves to play PING PONG. I played him once, and I have to say, I GOT WRECKED. 0 to a thousand. I never stood a chance, and he did this while he was on break, I'm just a customer by the way. Another event. I got my breaks done, for my RAV4, I dropped it off at 8 in the morning got it back at 12 in the afternoon. What a beast. Another event. I brought in my mom's Van to get the power steering flushed out, and also to get my transmission flushed. also to change the breaks and rotors... holy cow. Dropped it off at 8am picked it back up at 2pm and when I got there, it was very busy. So through all that traffic, oh boy, still very punctual. Another event. (I'm not making any of this up) I brought it in lancer because of an accident, (this review is at Auto Body Garage) and kevin checked to see if everything was working even before the auto insurance people came in to see if my car was considered a salvage hit or a small claimed hit. Kevin checked, and immedately told me what went wrong from the accident. and so my car was considered salvage, but kevin and baylon right after started to give me suggestions on a car that is best suited for me, (because I asked) So now I own a 2007 tsx, perfect to my liking. Thanks kevin, You rock. Next time I come back, we're playing ping pong again, and this time you're going to lose, and I shall train. Kevin is great! ti sum it up in a word. I have a 2006 Miata-Clutch was totally gone. Dealership wanted to charge me $2100 to replace. NO WAY! I looked on Yelp and called several of the top auto mechanics, they all wanted to charge approx $1500. Then I called Kevin and he quoted me $744 a third of the Dealership and half of the other mechanic and he was still using the same recommended clutch-Daiken. I dropped my car off at 5pm on a Wednesday and by Thursday noon. It was done. runs great. He id misquote me though, it ended up being $744.25 :) I think I found a mechanic. He also gave me advice on how to save my clutch for the long haul. He even kept the shop open an extra hour so I could pick my car up. I can't praise him enough. I know it is funny that Brannan Auto Experts is now on Bryant, but they did a fantastic job for me. I had a brake problem and Kevin diagnosed the problem, and shopped around for the best price on replacement pieces. He called when he said he would and finished the job ahead of schedule. Very courteous, professional, good quality work, no bullshit. Like another reviewer noted, honest mechanics are quite hard to find - Kevin is one of them. I needed brake pads replaces on all 4 wheels, I've ordered the pads on the internet, just needed them installed. I called Ed's and Brannan's (both places near my work, both with 5-star reviews). Ed's quoted me $225, Brannan's - $190. Quick check on google maps showed that Brannan's also looks a little less like a shack and a little more like an actual garage. Went to Brannan's the next day and dropped off my car. Asked Kevin to see if he can get a new set of shims (which were discarded for some reason the last time I had the brake pads changed). He called me back couple of hours later, got me a very good deal on the shims (I checked around on that too). Picked up my car the same evening, everything is in top order, brakes feel like new - actually better than. Very pleased overall, will definitely come back for any routine maintenance, and will pass the word on to my friends. Thanks again, Kevin! P.S. Had another visit today. Same 5-star experience.
