My fiancé and I ordered a chicken dinner to go from Brasas last week and it was spectacular! The chicken was tender and the sides were delicious! For the two of us the half chicken with sides was plenty - we had the yucca fries, plantains, and roasted potatoes! Even though we came for pickup, the service was fast and friendly. The restaurant itself is intimate in size but very chic, we can't wait to come for a sit down dinner soon! Ps: we ate the food immediately upon arriving at our apartment so I didn't grab a picture! We've eaten at this charming little spot twice and it's now one of our favorite restaurants in St. Louis. The roasted chicken is incredible, among the best we've ever had. If someone in your party doesn't like bone-in chicken (oh, what they're missing!) there's the aji amarillo chicken curry which is boneless and excellent, as is the ceviche (their sister restaurant Jalea specializes in it), the papa rellena and the sides esp potatoes. The pisco sour is as good as it gets. But the house chicken is so good I'd just carve the meat off for anyone not wanting to deal with bones, and I suspect the excellent staff would be happy to do it for you, b/c cooking the bird bone-in is absolutely essential to getting so much flavor. read more

I've been to Brasas several times and it's always very consistent. I always order takeout. Never dined inside. It's a little petite inside but has a nice chill ambiance. Take out has always been piping hot and fresh. I usually order the Polla a la Brasa as my entree which comes with two sides: Maduros and the Rotisserie Potatoes are my "go-to" sides but I've also had the Garlic Rice with Peruvian Bean Stew (pretty good but a little on the dry side in my opinion). I do wish they had more veggie sides. The only veggie option is a salad (Which is also tasty). That said, every part of the meal is packed with flavor; The pollo à la brasa entree even comes with three sauces that add a little flavor punch! I've also had the Strip Loin Anticucho and it was so flavorful and tender. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. Brasas made it to my "easy choice" list. 10/10 highly recommend. read more

We had made reservations an hour or two before dinner and there were several times slots to same day book so I wasn't sure how busy they'd be but I was really glad we had booked ahead because they were packed with a steady flow of people walking in while we were there. We sat at the bar so got to observe the staff clearly running their behind off working. They were so kind. Now for the food --amazing. The chicken falls off the bone and melts in your mouth. We enjoyed our dinner at Brasas. While we were lucky enough to get in without a reservation, they are recommended as this is a smaller place. It previously housed an ice cream sandwich store, My husband, did the research and decided we needed to go. The restaurant is east of Skinker near the Pageant and Delmar Hall if you're coming for a concert. Street metered parking is available. We ordered the yucca croquetas as our appetizer. The cheesy dip it came with has a little spice to it but was very manageable. For entrees, we selected their 1/4 chicken plate with two sides. I love plain rains so I got them along with the garlic rice & bean stew. The food also came with a variety of sauces on the side and while I enjoyed them all, the dijon based one made the chicken shine. This is unlike any rotisserie chicken you've ever had as it cooks close to the coals and develops a caramel char. It is well-seasoned but not salty. Another fun feature is the Peruvian ice cream you can get for dessert. We passed this time. While we were full from all our food, Brasas is a can't miss. As a student in France, I dreamt about the amazing rotisserie chickens that were cooked in my neighborhood on Sundays. Now, my own Proustian chicken moments, will recall the chicken here. We had an amazing time at Brasas tonight. The service and food were excellent. My partner says the ceviche was the best she had outside of Peru. It was perfectly balanced and the sweet potatoes and corn went perfect with the fish. The half chicken was AMAZING! Perfectly juicy and well spiced. The cremas it come with were so delicious but the chicken can hold its own without the sauces. The porky belly was a great savory garlicy dish. We will be coming back again! read more

We shared a whole chicken with several sides that were all tasty as well as the potato and wing appetizers- so good. Very small inside dinning area with a big bar for seating. Some outside tables. We ate here before a Muny show and it was perfect! The service was warm, personable and fast, we didn't worry about timing for the start of the show. It's a tiny place so a reservation is probably required, but I believe you can sit at the bar, which dominates the space. My husband and I split a Chaufa Aeropuerto which was easy to split and was so delicious it made me wish I could have had the whole thing. This dish is a mixture of beef strip loin, chicken, and pork belly covered by a fried egg and served on Peruvian fried rice. The meat was all cooked just right, with distinct flavors and highlighted by the lightly fried egg and the saucy, delicious rice. I had a Pisco Sour cocktail which is a colorless to amber-colored brandy made from grapes in Peru and Chile. The cocktail is very sweet and sour, made with lime juice, pisco and simple syrup topped with a lovely soft foam egg white. I like margaritas, but this may be my new favorite. Excited to see another Peruvian spot close to the city, we decided to check out Brasas. Tbh Jalea is just too far so we were excited to see Cisneros was opening something similar in the city. We started with the yucca croquettes a la huancaina and maduros. Maduros never disappoint and my partner loves yucca so he enjoyed those, I would say maybe a little more salt was needed. Typically my go to is ají de gallina but since I just cooked some, I decided to get the anticuchos and my partner enjoyed the ceviche carretillero. Ceviche was so good, very authentic flavors but there seems to be a little extra touch that differentiates it from most spots, and it absolutely elevates it. I loved the anticuchos. The beef heart was super tender and the marinade was extremely flavorful and acidic just how I like it! The potatoes that came on the side were seasoned well and were great dipped in the drippings of the sauce. I also loved the choclo dipped in the sauce as well. We ended with the lucuma ice cream which was good, just needed to thaw a bit. Service was attentive and the space is small and intimate. I would highly recommend a reservation bdcuase it's so small inside, but you may get lucky with a seat at the bar! read more

I have no idea how this place gets such good reviews. Came here with my wife after reading a glowing review in the Post Dispatch. The place is very small, but otherwise looks okay. Ordered the ceviche and the chicken. Kitchen and wait staff seemed overwhelmed. The place was not that full and the food still took a while to come out. The ceviche was okay. Nothing special, but I guess this is St Louis, so you have lower expectation with seafood dishes. The chicken was nothing special either. It was a bit on the expensive side ($26 for 1/2 chicken). The sides, which the Post recommended, were not that good. We seldom come to the U-City Loop area because that parking is a big hassle and the ambiance is iffy. That was the case when we ate there last week. That and the so-so experience at Brasas reenforced our feeling that there are other, more convenient and interesting dinning destinations to frequent. read more
