This is a cute little place in the heart of Maplewood and you can tell it's ran with love! Whether it's for a dinner date or drinks at the bar you will be pleased! Latin America meets St. Louis! We mostly went in for apps but the full menu sounds as delicious! The waiter was very quick and served with a smile. The bartender made very good high quality drinks. Even the owner was around to assure our night was going as planned. Very gracious people who are appreciative of your patronage. Defiantly different type of menu and if you like meat this is your place! Chorizo was our favorite apps followed by the pork plantain. And I mean you can't beat a freshly made red sangria. So for your next night out to mix it up add Asador Del Sur to your list!

Others have called this place a hidden gem and I have to agree. It's an amazing spot and I really enjoyed everything here. The vibe was lively and elegant. Service was great and food was fantastic! We happen to come during happy hour (Wed-Sun from 3p-6p) and took advantage of the $8 cocktails and 2 for $8 empanadas. Empanadas (2 for $8 happy hour price) - The steak was a special empanada, cheese and guava was the favorite, and mushroom was also good. Cocktails - Lime margarita and pina colada were both refreshing and well-made. Fried baby squid $12 - Very crispy and comes with a tasty dipping sauce. Mahi Mahi $31 - Definitely would order again. Excellent dish, perfectly cooked fish and well-seasoned rice! Overall, this restaurant is a must-visit for anyone looking for great food, drinks, and a wonderful atmosphere. Highly recommended! .|\---/| | @_@ | ..\_^_/..2024

    6 dollar Happy Hour Sangria!

Charming outdoor seating area and inviting interior. I'm always surprised to see it so empty, as the service is prompt and friendly and the food is fresh and delicious! Great happy hour specials with 6 dollar sangria and 4 dollar empanadas. Everyone needs to stop sleeping on this place and go! They have a brunch on the weekends that I keep meaning to check out.

Stopped by for brunch for the first time and it was great! The traditional breakfast options are my favorite foods so I loved that Asador Del Sur has so many other options. I ordered the Mañanero Bowl. It was so fresh and huge. I couldn't finish it. It was also brunch so I couldn't pass on a passion fruit caipirinha. Service was super attentive as usual. A great spot for your next brunch!

Guava + cheese (back) and chicken (front) Empanadas! Perfectly crunchy and flaky

We've been here twice and had exceptional service each time. The food is amazing and fresh. You have to try the empanadas! The cocktails incorporate delicious flavors for an islandy feel. The only downside is how small the first floor is. It feels crowded even when the tables are empty. I haven't been to the second floor so maybe there's more space up there. Definitely not a deterrent for me and I'll be back!

Soooooo good!!!! Been lookin for good Latin American food for a bit, and this place hit the spot! I loved the chimichurri chicken - it was so flavorful, meat cooked was perfectly, and went so well with the beans and rice which perfectly complimented the chicken! My boyfriend enjoyed the lamb, especially with the mint sauce. Ambiance was nice, downstairs was more busy than upstairs- and there's lots of space. Service was great! Definitely recommend and will be back!

    Nothing special with the bread...

The four of us had dinner here for our first time. We all tried the various soups to start and they were each very good. My favorite was the gluten free lobster bisque, which is rare to find in GF. Then we shared salads and a few other little things. As we were eating I asked about bread and butter. The answer surprised me a little, as it was $2.00. Thinking that I would find some sort of unique bread and as wonderful as the rest of the food, to my great surprise there were 4 pieces of grilled Chibatta (sp). Quite ordinary and tasteless, which had me puzzled. First of all, why charge for basic bread and that was almost bland? I casually asked the owner as she made her way to say hi to her guests about the bread. She said that this was expensive bread and that was why the charge. The cost was ok, but.... About a week earlier, we ate at Truffles and I happily paid $4.00 for 4 different unique sorts of breads that were outstanding. Yes, a silly detail about the really wonderful dinner here, but I think this weakest link in their menu should be revisited if it is to represent this restaurant. Ok enough about that. The service was excellent as was the food and the prices were mostly quite fair. Do check them out!

We loved asador del sur! Service and food were fabulous, but unfortunately we didn't receive our cocktails until we were almost finished with our meal. It was incredible, I would have just liked to have two or three, but only got the one due to timing. I don't blame the staff for this, as I think it is on owners to adequately hire a bartender as to not put too much on the servers. The lights/ noise/ ambiance weren't quite what is to be expected with the price tag, either. Ribeye, crab salad and mash were great, though!

Delicious... like a spanish Thanksgiving. can't believe I haven't been here sooner. My husband had mahi and it was perfect too. Drinks were good tasting but in the very weak more fruity side....which I didn't like so much.. but I'll def still be back very soon.

If I could give this place 10 stars I would we were seated right away although I would book a reservation the next time we decide to go just in case. The service was outstanding our waitress helped us so much especially trying new food. She explained everything from Ingredients to taste and we loved everything she had recommended even the drinks! This place was very fancy definitely dress accordingly. Our food came out and we were both excited to try it and it did not disappoint so much flavor and great taste. We were not rushed definitely enjoyed our experience here. The portions were pretty decent sizes although the price was up there but we ate and still had a lot of food to bring home.

We were here for brunch on Saturday. There was no street parking so we parked in Schnucks parking lot across from the restaurant. I made a reservation online couple days ago, but it wasn't really busy when we arrived. This is definitely a kid friendly restaurant since I noticed they have a changing table in their bathroom and high chairs. The wait staff here was very kind and hard working. He seated us, took our order and brought food to our table along with 2 other tables. Although he was really busy, he still came to check on us a few time. We were really happy with the service here. The restaurant was relatively small but very charming. I think it's actually a very cute spot for a date. I started off with a mimosa. It came with variety of flavors such as orange, mango, pineapple, and I went with mango. It didn't taste like mango at all but the drink was good. We got the shrimp ceviche for appetizer. I came with rice but we didn't touch the rice at all. The rice was pretty fluffy and aromatic but a toast bread would make a better combo in our opinion. My friend got a grilled salmon sandwich. The bread was a little burnt but it didn't affect the taste. Salmon was cooked just right. The sauce was very yummy. I got the Lomo Saltado with French fries and white rice. I also ordered extra eggs on the side. They didn't make the eggs as I expected. However my stomach was happy with how the beef was marinated and cooked. Overall, it was a great dining experience here. I will return to try their dinner menu.

This family-run Argentinian restaurant in Maplewood offers authentic South American cuisine with warmth and hospitality that makes you feel at home. Rooted in flavors from Uruguay, Ecuador, Argentina, Brazil, and Portugal, every dish is crafted with passion, especially their expertly grilled steak, shrimp, sausages, carnitas, chicharron, as well as their empanadas, ceviche & more that capture the essence of South American cooking. Pair your meal with a fine selection of wines from Uruguay's famous wineries, carefully curated to complement the flavors of the cuisine. The welcoming atmosphere, attentive service, and rich culinary heritage make this spot a must-visit.

Shrimp plantain appetizer (2 Piece HomeMade Patacones Rellenos)
    Jami R.

I stopped in here before a Yelp event for a quick light bite. The reviews really stood out to me and I had to try it! I only ordered the Patacones Rellenos with shrimp because I had decided in advance and I LOVE plantains. The in house menu is so much more noteworthy than the online menu. It made one tough decision let me tell you! The plantains were cooked perfectly crispy, a bit too salty. The shrimp had wonderful flavor but was overpowered by a lot of raw onion on top. I will definitely be back with my husband to try out more of the menu but I may choose a different topping on the Patacones because of the onion. The lighting but bright yet warm at the same time. The kitchen is slightly open in the back. I loved how the fire heaters outside added a wonderful touch inside as well. Some tables were positioned out in the alleyway which could make for a very intimate evening when the weather is nice.

They also gave us a list of their favorite menu items. That was the sign that it was time for us to go! We were lucky and found a great parking spot. It was a nice night and a lot of people were in the area. We were greeted warmly by a few people at the hostess stand. Our table was almost ready - literally maybe a two minute wait - and then we were seated. It's not a huge space, but they make the most of it. The place was full! Our server was Josh and he was great! There were a number of people that came to our table throughout our two hours there. Drink delivery, food delivery, Amanda (one of our very favorite servers we met at another restaurant), water pourer, table cleaner, etc - lots of staff taking care of everyone. We dropped utensils a few times and someone on staff was there replacing it before we even picked it up off the floor. We're not THAT clumsy - the tables for two aren't large and it was easy to hit a utensil unknowingly! It's a little loud in there due to the size of the space and the number of people they can seat. It wasn't annoyingly loud, but louder than some places. We ordered our cocktails and then started trying to decide what to order. Josh went over the menu with us, told us about some of the items in more detail, and told us about the specials. He was super knowledgeable about the entire menu. He also had a fun personality. Focaccia and olive oil were brought to our table. It was literally the only thing I didn't like there. I love focaccia, but it was served almost cold. I prefer it warm. And this wasn't room temp - it was very cool. We started with Prosciutto di Parma. Because peaches are in season, it came with fresh sliced peaches and it was delicious! Without the peaches, I think the prosciutto would have been too salty for me, but I'm salt sensitive. I had the Roman Gnocco and it was very good! I brought half of it home. My husband got the Sweet Corn Ravioli. It was a special and it was delicious. It was the perfect summer entree! We had an ice cream sandwich for dessert and wow! It's absolutely not like one you've had before. I was already full, but I made some room! In addition to the food and cocktails being so good, the staff were fabulous! They didn't miss a trick. Someone always noticed everything! And the food they took from me to box up was kept somewhere else until we were ready to go. It was brought with the bill. It was labeled with our table number and what the contents were. Was it a big deal? No. Was it very thoughtful? Yes. We didn't have a box sitting there while we enjoyed dessert and finished our cocktails. My only regret is that we had not been there before. The food and service are both top notch. We will most definitely be back!

The restaurant has lower ceilings, smaller dining room tables and chairs and was very cozy. Not cramped but cozy. The menu was All steakhouse - straight forward - nothing fancy. The prices were not stuck in the 70's though - they kept up with the times. We enjoyed cocktails before, and an appetizer of house made onion rings which were outstanding. several had salads - the house and caesar were both great as was the traditional Greek was exceptional. The steaks were Prime and we had our choice of either healthy 8oz+ filets or 12 /16oz NY Strip Steaks. Also some had the 8 oz Cold water Lobster tails. My16oz NY Strip ordered Medium Rare was cooked perfectly as was every other steak at the table. Those who ordered lobster got them deep fried which personally i think is a waste - but to each there own - it was good as well. The cream spinach was very tasty. If there was one wish - i would have liked a bit of seasoning on the steaks - this was teh consensus of the table. the beef was good - but could have used some sort of seasoning - even some S & P. Our server was friendly and knowledgable and has been there some time. Service was well paced and supported by an excellent team - waters were filled, table bussed and bread with REAL butter was kept full. As a personal side note, our folks started going to Charcoal House in 1963 - so this place has a special spot in our family - it is not often you can grab a good steak with 6 people on a Saturday night with a reservation and not be rushed out the door and receive 5 STARS! Bravo and Well Done - We'll be back.

Overcooked both of them, my fish was literally hard to cut. The cost was worthy of a fine meal, $$$. Unacceptable! Won't be going back, sad, we had good memories there.

We started with the Korean fried cauliflower and it was honestly some of the best I've ever had. The batter was light, fluffy, and crispy, and the gochujang sauce with the mayo was sweet and sticky in the best way. Since it's a butchery, we had to try the steaks. I ordered the 4oz filet Oscar style. The meat was tender and very well seasoned, the crab was fresh, and the homemade hollandaise really pulled it all together. My husband had the ribeye. It was a flavorful cut, a little fatty (as ribeye tends to be), but exactly what you'd expect from that cut. The steaks come with a twice-baked potato and vegetable (or you can swap for different vegetables). The potato was flavorful but fairly dense. We also did the bread service - it was good, but felt a bit pricey for the portion. We ended with the flourless chocolate torte, which was very rich and the perfect way to finish the meal - especially on Valentine's Day. Overall, the food was good and the menu is solid. The quality was there, but the portions, bread service and sides didn't fully meet expectations. That said, it was still a lovely experience and a great date-night spot.

We do occasionally go to one and the food is usually very good - we just never get steak. A friend took us here for lunch. It's really a very nice place. It was obviously upscale and looked great. We were greeted and seated right away. Our server came over and took drink orders. When she came back she went over a special or two and gave us time to make our choices. She was attentive without being too much. Our food was delicious! We enjoyed our meal and the time spent with a friend. Would I go back? Maybe! It was grilled to perfection at medium rare and seemed larger than the described 14 oz. I was with a group so I had a chance to try almost all of the sides. They were all great. My wedge salad was good as well, but next time I'll have it in the traditional way rather than having them chop it for me. Overall, an excellent dinner
