Decided to try it out since they send out coupons for BOGO Free entree with purchase of two cocktails or something. Very outdated look when you go inside. Large parking lot. Large inside with booths, tables section, bar section, and a weird half lounge/dining area by the front. But honestly just could not get over the stale, mildewy, cigarette smell that emcompasses the whole place. Not the best greeting/hostess experience when you walk in, but our server was nice enough. Food didn't take too long to come out and we got the prime rib and beef stroganoff. The beef stroganoff had large pieces, but they were a little dry. Prime rib was pretty good luckily. The prices aren't too bad, as were the cocktails. Wasn't anything to bring me back again to bear with the smell. read more

If you're looking for an old-school steakhouse that caters to a more traditional crowd, this is the spot. The filet mignon was hands down the best I've ever had--perfectly cooked, juicy, and flavorful (once I added a bit of salt). If I could rate just the steak, it would be an easy five stars. The wedge salad was also very good, a nice surprise and one of the better parts of the meal. However, I was a bit surprised they never brought out bread or rolls to start, which would have been a nice touch. Unfortunately, everything else was pretty lackluster. The sides and other dishes lacked seasoning, and I noticed younger diners around me all reaching for the salt shaker. The menu didn't offer a lobster tail add-on, which would have been a great option. The interior definitely shows its age--this is a classic, no-frills kind of place that longtime patrons probably love, but it could use a refresh. Service was solid, but the parking lot was a bit odd, and the warning signs about stolen items didn't exactly inspire confidence. Would I come rushing back? Probably not. But if you want an excellent filet mignon and a solid wedge salad, it's worth a try! read more

Why are there still some reviewers pretending this restaurant is still open? The most recent operators have not served a meal there since Christmas Eve, 2025. There is a For Sale sign on the street and the building is vacant. After hiding behind "Danny B's" Yelp bio for almost 10 years, they finally "claimed" the business on their way out the door. Danny Basso was the second-generation operator for almost 40 years. He retired and sold the business to these "restaurateurs" in 2016. They drove it into the ground, not Danny Basso. Putting 20+ employees out of work on Christmas Day, no less. read more

The potato was dry and the creamed spinach could do with some seasoning.... This explains why most of the diners were older, and only 1/3 of the restaurant was occupied--they are locals who have figured out what they liked and keep ordering the same entrees... While my car was at the garage, I walked to this nearby establishment for a bite. Although it's been a while since my last visit, it felt like stepping back in time. Unlike Cheers, the diners at the bar and restaurant didn't call out my name. The dining room had a few diners but you can definitely hear their conversations. I wanted something simple, I ordered the calamari fritter and California salad to learn later they ran out of mixed greens and offered to make salad with romaine lettuce with all the toppings described in their California salad. The waiter took it on himself to prepare the salad. I appreciate the gesture. The calamari was served hot and crispy with cocktail sauce. I prefer tartare sauce and ask for it. The substitute salad portion was generous and fresh. The dishes were reasonably priced. The service was attentive. For simple fare, I would return if I'm in the neighborhood. read more

I've been a resident of San Ramon for 18 years. Sadly tonight was my very first visit. I'm normally someone who pays attention to bad reviews. I like to read the bad reviews and see what people are saying. My buddy wanted to take me out to dinner for appreciation and when he told me we were going here I looked at the reviews and I was a little concerned. Walked in and the place was absolutely packed, which was very nice to see considering what's going on with the establishment soon. The people are very nice customers and staff. It took a little bit to get our order taken, but the food came out very quick. We didn't mind that we had to wait. And my buddy ordered the steak. I ordered the French dip. My buddy was very happy with the steak and I thought the French dip was very good. It's the actual first time I had a French dip that came out with a little bit of red meat, which is appropriate in my opinion. Now that I've been here it really sucks that this place is closing down. I will do my best to do another visit before they close. I'll probably hit up the nice huge bar that they have inside. If you can withstand the service being a little mixture of slow, it's a good place to go. read more

Hi, 3-of us went there at thanksgiving day at 12-pm reservation, so they set us right away,Surprisingly not many people there that time. We ordered our food right away and after food was served we realized that there is a fruit fly all around our table. Fruit flies on my drink glass and on my food. More than 10-fruit flies around our table and we felt very uncomfortable. So we called manager and told situation, she told us '' Oo ,it's just a seasonal fruit flies , they had them all the time, and there is nothing she can do,.We moved different table but flies still there. Manager doesn't want to change our food for new ones .Expect us to eat our old dish with many fly already touched it. I didn't touch my steak . I use to go to this restaurant for years and the parking lot was always packed. When it got bought out over 5 years ago the quality and serving sizes have gone down hill. We ordered a couple meals and minestrone soups. Each meal was $23 while the soups were each $9. We also asked for extra bread and it was forgotten about, but brought out when we told them they forgot it. The bread was re-heated and chewy, not fresh. The meals were pathetic in the amount of meat given. When asked why they only had 1 small chicken instead of 2 like they always did, they said it was by weight. I'm still starving after eating it. The soups were extremely small and we even tipped. This place is inconsistent and hurting for money as it is always empty inside. The ambience is dark and not welcoming. There were 3 families and a few men watching a game at the bar. Find a new restaurant to go to. We won't be back. read more

In all the years living here, I thought I'd give it a try. Went this weekend. As soon as you walk in the door you smell a strong musty smell. Throughout the restaurant it smelt. My husband reserved the Executive room for my 66th birthday. My adult children, my grandchildren, and my great grandchild was there. 20 people total, in our party. In the room next to us (you have to walk through the next-door room to get to the restroom) was filled with about 30 very older men. The vulgar language was appalling. We requested management, as the older men were saying horrible things to us as we went in and out to the restrooms. To my Suprise, there was no management on site to report it to. Please know, I am not exaggerating. How do you spend over $2800.00 for dinner, to be so disappointed. We had to leave the party early due to their disrespectful behavior. Absolute WORST dining experience on Christmas Eve ever. Makes sense why they had a lot of openings for the holidays. We had a reservation at 7:15 pm and apparently they ran out of prime rib. Didn't know they closed at 8 pm. That was the only reason why we came was for their well known prime rib. Never been here before but we really wanted prime rib for Christmas Eve dinner and living in the area for over 20 years I've always seen and heard about this place. Of course we were disappointed but tried to make the best of it and we all chose the filet mignon. It tasted like it was previously frozen. Had no flavor or seasoning. I had to put salt on everything. My friend who's lactose intolerant told the waiter three times to make sure not to put any butter or sauce on his meal. They bring him his dinner with a pile of potatoes au gratin with tons of cheese and cream which wasn't even a part of the menu. He asked where the mashed potatoes were and they said they ran out and instead of asking him or offering him an alternative, they just threw the last batch of au gratin on his plate. Our meals looked like they just scraped what was left in the back and threw it on our plates and rushed us out to leave. $70 meal with appetizers and a glass of wine and they didn't even offer us dessert because they wanted us to leave. First things first this place isn't owned by Danny B. anymore he sold the place 6 or so years ago and the owner is using his reputation to make money, all while destroying that same reputation. My father and I came in for a special lunch as it's been his favorite place since he and his father used to come. We ordered the fried calamari for an app., my father had the prime rib, and I had the Rueben. The fried calamari was inedible, it had a slimy texture and very off putting foul taste. We each tried exactly one bite and looked at each other with a sour face. The waiter came by and noticed we hadn't touched the appetizer and asked if something was wrong. I explained to him that it was not very good, and maybe rancid, he didn't apologize nor offer us anything to replace it, just grabbed the plate and walked away. The main course came out and my sandwich was just ok, the bread was a bit dry, but other than that it was alright. My father's prime rib was a totally different story. As we were eating I noticed he wasn't really digging into his steak and asked him if something was wrong. He moved the mushrooms off the top of the steak revealing a very well done, dry, grey colored piece of meat (he ordered it rare). Being it was a weekday and him knowing I had to return to work he just ate his sides and didn't complain, but left the steak untouched. When the waiter returned toward the end of the meal he asked if the steak wasn't to his liking, to which my father replied "does this look right to you, I ordered it rare", the waiter apologized and took the plate. He then proceeded to bring me the check, and to my surprise there were no adjustments made to the bill. I asked the waiter if there might be something he could do considering my dad hadn't touched his $45 steak and he told me there was nothing he could do. That if he adjusted my check the owner would take it out of his paycheck (which I'm almost certain is illegal for a restaurant owner to do). So I was forced to pay for a meal that was not eaten. As we were walking out a nice older lady overheard our conversation with the waiter and said she was waiting at the front and dealing with a very similar situation. I have scrolled through some recent reviews and it seems the owner enjoys ripping people off as there are several other complaints of people being charged for food that was inedible. It's a very sad thing what has happened to this once great steak house my family has been coming to for three generations now. The new owner takes zero pride in the establishment, and should really take down the Basso family pictures that line the walls, and stop lying to the public here on yelp, claiming that the basso family still owns this place. I wish I could give less than one star. read more

Debating between 3 star and a 3.5. Definitely a 5 star server. David was the very best. Perfection, BUT we were craving prime rib. Arrived in plenty of time (5:30) with the place offering a choice of tables to normally get a RARE cut. Well, I ordered the 16 oz and wife ordered a smaller cut. What was served was medium at best and tasty but very tough. The steak knife needed sharpening. The place had a great feel of old time steakhouses. Again, the service was perfection. The meal? Scared to go back for fear of another medium tough cut of prime rib. A hundred dollar plus dinner for two for a tough cut of Prime Rib? Will not take a chance. Brought my parents here for Father's Day. They loved it! The atmosphere was OG class, so they were comfortable and happy. Service was prompt. Portions and cost were very reasonable. The kids enjoyed their pasta meals, while the grownups had steak/prime rib. We will return! read more

I just found out that The Brass Door will finally be closing their doors for good this month. LMAO!!!! I'm surprised she managed to last 7 years! All the current greedy owner had to do was be honest and continue running it the way Danny Brasso had done successfully for 60 years, using quality meat and keeping the prices reasonable. She took over a once thriving, very popular restaurant (lying that the ownership had not changed) and ran it into the ground. The prime rib dip used to be phenomenal .... now it comes with sub-par bread and over-fried potatoes .... they used to throw out their old bread and pick out the over-fried potatoes .... attention to detail is not what it used to be .... step it up and you could easily get back to your peak .... This is one of my go to places to have a meal and still be able to hear what someone is saying. I like it that the music is not blasting away. My favorites are the prime rib for dinner and the French dip for lunch. The French onion soup is amazing here the cheese on top is always hot and I love to put my spoon into it and dig down into the soup. The fried chicken looks great too. I've been going to the Brass Door for decades. It was a great place to watch football. We went there 2 weeks ago and expected the bar area to be packed (49ers were playing Monday Night Football). There were a few people sitting at the bar and maybe 3 tables of customers. The minute we entered, we were overcome by a disgusting smell (mold, sewer, something), we should have turned around and left. But we didn't. We ordered our drinks and dinner. We spent the next 30ish minutes trying to keep the gnats/fruit flies away from our food. We should have asked for the manager, but we didn't. Instead we let our waitress know there were tons of insects flying around and she stated that they knew and were planning on fumigating in the near future. The new owners have run a once, respectable restaurant into the ground. The Brass Door is one of the only long standing restaurants left in San Ramon. At this rate, it will be closed before the end of 2025. read more

Save your money and order prime rib from somewhere else. Used to be better about 10 yrs ago under diff ownership. New owners seem like theyre cutting too many corners and this place may not last long. It was def more upscale in the past. Now just ordinary and was pretty dead for a Saturday night. Bathrooms need more attention. Dirty, no seat covers. Presentation of food needs improvement. Some items we ordered were served in black plastic fast food containers. Not a good presentation. I don't know where to begin. Mother's day service was horrible. Every dish, every single dish ranging from rib eye to salmon.... Disgusting. No seasoning, either horribly over or under cooked. Never asked how we wanted our steaks prepared... First red flag. Server seemed irritated the entire time. 375 dollars later, we are still pulling numbers for the bathroom.
