There's a reason this place gets mostly one star reviews. The menu is old and haggard and seems the same since they opened. But the worst part is the service. Simply awful. We had a rude waitress serve us who said we were not allowed to bring in a Yeti containing Throat Coat tea (really?) and when we brought her conduct to the owner's attention he started yelling and screaming. Review is for Doordash takeout: We've been making good use of the Dashpass quite a bit over the past few months. Since it was July 3 weekend, I was up for trying a new, meat-centric place. Xenia Bistro seems to have a pretty broad and intriguing menu, and its in Alamo which isn't too far from me. The Pork Chop with brandy-apple chutney turned out pretty good. Thick, boneless, yet still fairly juicy. I liked the generous helping of veggies and mashed potatoes. The potato-crusted Halibut was basically like a hash brown baked into a large, thick piece of fish. Cooked perfectly and not too dry. Its really easy to overcook halibut, especially with 30+ min of delivery. They also provides lots of lemon-picatta sauce to spiff up the fish. Only downsides of the Doordash menu is that they don't seem to have desserts! Anyways, a decent 4-star takeout place in my view with an interesting menu. Staff very helpful. The kitchen and menu is made for Gordon Ramsay to come in and redo from scratch. The pizza classico must have come off the Sysco truck. No flavor - obviously machine made. Go to Pizza Antica in Lafayette for real pizza. The burrata salad had thick sliced Roma tomatoes with NO olive oil, average mozzarella, a small cup of balsamic, and chiffonade basil. This dish was a zero. To see how to make this dish go to Teleferic Barcelona in WC. The salmon was way too salty and it was overcooked. The bench we were on was worn out 10 years ago. I had the potato encrusted halibut. Basically hash browns on a tiny piece of halibut with watery flavorless white sauce. Green beans were not cooked. Inedible. My wife had the chicken marsala. The chicken was dry and over cooked to the point it was hard. To not notice how bad the chicken was before smothering it in sauce tells you they just don't care. Everytime I come I'm very happy with the taste. Today I ordered the chipotle honey shrimp and beet salad. I was shocked at how robust in flavor the sauce and shrimp was. We're new to the area and are making it a point to try all the restaurants in Alamo before we venture to WC and Danville. glad we tried it so we can remove it from the list. We aren't coming back ever again. The food was pretty bad, very bland and the ingredients seemed to be low quality. The service could have been ok because she was nice so there was potential. But she left our table full of dirty appetizer plates when she brought out the dinner. I asked for more bread and when she brought it she simply put the new basket on top of the basket that was already there and still ignored the pile of plates in the middle of the table. I have been going to Xenia for years and was really looking forward to my all time favorite which is the salmon dinner with risotto and steamed veggies. I had to complain as it was not the same at all. Salmon was not cooked the same. It was burned in some areas and a thicker piece than usual. It is usually cooked to perfection with just a little crisp. The veggies were over steamed and the risotto was not as fluffy as usual. The avocado topping was not as creamy as usual either. It just wasn't right. I would not complain but the service was not good at all. They charged me more for the replacement and I did not order it. The waitress was very rude. Had a very bad experience with a take out order, being a vegetarian we had ordered without meat. Got the pasta with chicken and still going back and forth about why it happened ....Apparently we are to blame ordering off the menu. The other pasta dish had no sauce and just 2 pieces of vegetables, was tasteless ! Still waiting on a refund , having been told every time we call that they would take care of it, Has not happened!! I've eaten here before but many years ago, and it was pricey but good. Read the other negative reviews. This time, the food was bland and tasteless. Portion size was OK Pork chop was tough and not marinated. Paella was tasteless and was supposed to be saffron rice but tasteless and no yellow color. Halibut was overcooked with a bad hash brown potato coating. We said we were splitting the dishes, no extra plates brought to split, despite request. Before I entered, I asked if they accepted a $25 coupon that I was going to use. They said yes. I asked them to look at it to make sure it was good- they said they didn't have to until after dinner. If they had told me they didn't accept the card or it was invalid, I would not have eaten there. After dinner, I showed them the coupon with a code number. They said that's all you need. Then they came back and said the code didn't work. I said I expected them to take the $25 off the bill. They refused. They refused to let me talk with the owner. They threatened to call the police. This is the rudest and worst restaurant experience I ever had. I will never return. We paid the bill in full ( over $100) and tipped. Even the business card is wrong. Something funny is going on here! We had a reservation for a party of 6. When we arrived, everything was fine. Not super friendly, but not unfriendly. The food was ok, not the best and somewhat overpriced. The problem came with the bill. They don't allow for separate checks for parties of 6 or more. AND they calculate the tip and add it in automatically for parties of 6 or more. Here's where the funny part comes in. They automatically figure 20% in on the subtotal and then they tax the entire amount including the tip. So you end up paying more tax than you should. Is this even legal? Collecting tax on the tip? This extra amount of tax I'm sure is just going into the profits of the restaurant. We asked if they would remove the tip and allow us to add it in at the end. They said they can't do that. They can only add to the tip but can't change anything else. read more

Odd place. We came here recently to celebrate a special occasion. The food was very average at best. Since COVID, it seems that several restaurants have had a tough time bouncing back and maybe that's the case here. While the food and drinks were not terrible, they were overpriced for what you get, and perhaps this restaurant has had trouble finding the right staff. But one thing that is inexcusable is the way they charge you. We had a table of 6 and were told that they automatically add a 20% tip. That's kind of chincy for a table like this that isn't even very big, but on top of that, they add the tip in before tax! So, you pay tax on a higher amount than you normally would. I'm not sure if this is legal and given that the service we received wasn't that amazing to begin with. read more

My first impression of the restaurant and the town itself was that people are so friendly! The restaurant owner, I'm presuming, welcomed our party in as if we were regulars. I love that type of connection because it's an instant feeling that it's going to be a good experience. I ordered the crab and artichoke open faced sandwich with onion rings on the side (you can choose between fries, potato salad, fruit, salad and onion rings at no extra cost) $11.50. Just the right portion. They use canned crab occasionally. You can tell the crab isn't fresh, but I wasn't bothered by it. The onion rings batter was so tasty! It was cooked just right. You poor folks in Alamo. I drove into Alamo Square looking for a breakfast spot I was told about, but ended up in the wrong restaurant. The sign said "voted best..." It's not. I ordered Eggs Benedict. I get three hard cubes of Honeydew Melon that were tasteless. Almost broke my crown on them. Oh, but when I went to slice my 50 cent sized Eggs Benedict, I swear the knife bent. And the hash browns, can you say Ora-Ida? I wish they were Ora-Ida, because the would have been a darnn better that what I was served. They looked as if Dr. Scholl's made them. Finally, went to wash my hands and ugh, the bathroom looked and smelled like I was in Tijuana. And, the commode doesn't flush since the handle is broken off. Sorry Ladies, it was so disgusting, I used the Women's Room (don't worry, I left the seat back down). Next time, Cafe Alamo, here I come. Or, the fabulous Taco Bell across the street. read more

But this breaskfast burrito meal omg. This is a monster to get down. you get a burrito with egg and potatoes, 2 sausages or bacon, toast, bowl of fruit or more potatoes. And another one I try is the scramble egg with spinach and sausage so good. I know people miss this place but as soon as you come in Safeway parking lot in Alamo it on your right at that stop sign. Good food nestled in the middle of a large set of strip malls. We have driven by this Alamo tradition many times without stopping. We are glad we stopped. We had a grilled chicken Saltimbocca sandwich and some chicken goulash soup. The flavorful chicken was cooked over an open fire grill. The soup nicely complimented the sandwich. The chicken sandwich was served on bread they called Panini. It wasn't grilled top and bottom like most Paninis. Next time I may try a different bread. read more

My family has come here for years and it has always been a good experience. My parents especially love this spot, it's one of their favorite places for drinks and dinner. Myself, personally, I think this place is solid but nothing super exciting. I always like the food, but the last couple times I have come here, I feel like the dishes I usually get (the salmon, for example) have been a little on the bland side. That being said though, it is pretty much guaranteed that the service here is really good. The younger guy that served us tonight was incredibly polite, accommodating and helpful. My parents come in here so often that the servers recognize them and make sure to say hi and welcome back. The wait staff seemed a little overworked, but our waitress would lets us know when she was getting busy and I'd much rather a server be upfront with being busy than just disappear I was surprised how reasonable this place was. For our party there were three dinners, an appetizer and 4 beers/cocktails - 60 bucks. The food was very good. A burger and roast beef dip sandwich were both slid, but the Mac and cheese might have been the best I have ever had - perfect for someone to split for a group of 3-4 people. We have been going to Xenia's since they opened. The quality of the food and service has dropped astronomically while the prices continue to rise. The last time we ordered food to go it was nothing like what was advertised on the menu. We asked about the same dish tonight (steak salad) and were assured that it would be prepared as it says on the menu. Upon picking up the food, it was simply lettuce and steak that was cooked rare when we had asked for it to be cooked medium, and with the wrong dressing. There were none of the fried red onions or other ingredients detailed on the menu included. We called to ask about it and the manager told us there was nothing that could be done and if we didn't like it to not give them business anymore, so that's what we're going to do. Xenia's lost a regular customer tonight. I highly recommend never coming here, you will be disappointed. read more
