Great vet starting from the girl on the phone. I highly recommend this place and will be going back.

I write this review with great disappointment with Brea Vet Hospital. Our dog, Luca had been a patient of Brea Vet for several years. A week and a half ago, he became unresponsive just before 6:00 p.m. We immediately called Brea Vet to ask what to do and where to go, and the first question back from the girl who answered the telephone was "are you even a patient of ours?". After we answered in the affirmative, we were told the doctor was busy and that the office was closing soon, so to not bring our dog there. The fact that she could not just give us the emergency pet hospital information without pushback still confuses me. We had to ask where the emergency pet hospital was, and we rushed him there. En route to the hospital one of the doctors called and told us they would transfer Luca's file to the pet hospital. Our sweet boy passed away that evening. Still to date, there was no acknowledgment from Brea Vet Hospital. They had no problem calling us after each check-up visit to recommend costly blood work in a healthy dog, but when he, a patient who they claimed to love so much, passed away, nothing. We will get another dog, eventually but he will not be a patient there. read more

I brought my dog in for urgent care because he seemed very uncomfortable, so we wanted to take him to the closest vet possible. We rushed in, frantic and crying that our dog was throwing up. The employees at the front did not help us to feel like they were in any rush to help us at all nor did they seem remotely interested in helping our dog who visibly seemed uncomfortable. After they sent us to a room to see the vet, we had to wait for at least thirty minutes before someone walked in. The vet didn't seem interested in anything besides taking our money and charged us $80 for a standard check up, claiming that it was for "urgent care". She then wanted to run some tests on him and was going to charge us around $450 for the entire process. We decided then to turn that down and take him to our usual vet, due to the fact that our dog was calming down by then. So in the end, all she did was state the obvious things that anyone could've seen for themselves, such as, "his stomach is unhappy." If you're going to charge me $80 for "urgent" care, don't leave me sitting in a room with my sick dog for thirty minutes and tell me to pay for a service I didn't get. My dog ended up getting better by the time we arrived at the other vet, so we canceled the appointment. It is truly disgusting to see an individual use another's lack of information in order to earn some more cash. My dog is my family member, so I'm going to pay for him to get the best treatment from someone who genuinely cares for him. I certainly won't be paying someone who just wants the money, aka, the Brea Veterinary Hospital! :( Also, I walked into our usual vet and asked how much their urgent care was, which ended up being the same price as walk ins, or $35. If you think the $80 was deserved for a walk in, there are places you can go, places that truly care for your family, that will not charge you as much. These two vets and their team have been amazing! We have two dogs, a 15 year old Shiba and 10 year old lab. Both have gotten into mischief and have caused urgent visits. They are AWESOME! I can't imagine taking my dogs anywhere else. Even though we moved to Anaheim, I will drive to them because I know they care and support my pets and my family. read more

Our cat Apollo had a continued illness and on a Sunday I called this facility to get an appointment. They got me in and were very, very good. Dr Forbes Was caring and very informative. We are so thankful to have found this wonderful loving place for pets. Dr. Massensio and Dr. Forbes and the whole staff. We have been taking our dog there for the past couple of years. Towards the end of his life, he had several medical problems, but the Drs. always managed to help us through it. I took my Pembroke welsh corgi here to get neutered and immediately after surgery he began experiencing diarrhea. I figured this was due to the pain killers or the off coming of the anesthesia which is normal but as the days went on it began getting worse and worse to the point he couldn't even hold down water and was pooping straight blood. Because of this I had to spend over $1,000 to take him to the ER because they were closed on Easter (go figure) and would have had to spend another $700 for X Rays and other costs to find the diagnosis of the problem. Of course I couldn't afford that so I just payed to have him treated and taken care of, luckily whatever they gave him worked and he was back to good health. Afterwards when Dr. Massenzio called (probably to try and get more of my money) I explained to her what happened and just got a "Huh that's weird" and a "I'm Sorry" afterwards offering my corgi a free examination (I don't even know what for like no way she's going to give me free x rays) I refused and talked to my dad who's a med tech. He explained to me she probably nicked my dogs intestines during the surgery which would be a reasonable explanation for the bleeding. read more

I chose Brea Veterinary Hospital when I moved to the area in 2017 with my new cat Lilly, and I am so glad I did. The staff here are always so kind and helpful, and really took the time to explain what was going on with Lilly during any sort of checkup. Unfortunately I had to unexpectedly put her down in May, and throughout all of the grief and struggle as to whether I was making the right choice the doctors and staff supported me along the way. When the day came to say goodbye, I was escorted to a room they were holding for my arrival so I did not have to wait in the lobby, and gave me all the time to say my final goodbyes. I was not rushed at all and they respected my space as I processed the death of my sweet girl. After her passing I received a card in the mail with sweet notes from everyone at this office. Truly above and beyond care and when I am finally able to bring myself to get another furry companion I know I will 100% be coming back here. read more

Our vet moved her practice from Studio City to Brea and we followed her. We have ended up being so happy with not only our own familiar vet, but the other vet at Brea Veterinary Hospital as well. We are in love with the front desk and admin staff, the vet techs, and everything about the place. Everyone is warm, friendly, and compassionate. We have had nothing but good experiences. Our last dog was terminally ill, so we visited often. In other words, we are pretty much experts! And just to let you know, we find it worth the drive all the way from Monrovia to Brea to have veterinary care we can trust, and a place that makes us feel comfortable and well cared-for. read more

I was recommended to this vet and received my first visit free. The vets were both knowledgeable and friendly. My dog was found to have a tic-born illness. They were extremely helpful and did everything they can to bring the cost down. There is actually a more extensive test that would have cost way more money but they suggested a more affordable route. Also both vets have called to check up on my dog. When choosing a vet I only look for the best care even if it costs more, quality should come first. read more

10 years ago, i likely would have given this place a higher rating. I had been using this vet for almost 13 years. At first, the vibe was very honest, loving and nurturing... But over the last 5 or 6 years, I have felt less comfortable. The problem: they overcharge for most services and "up sell" everything. If you go in for a rash for example, they will tell you it's either a food allergy or fleas. They don't see a sign of fleas, so they need to do allergy and food allergy testing which is terribly expensive! And they STILL recommend a long term flea treatment, even with no fleas on a strictly indoor animal. I will say they have been helpful in accommodating people with a restricted budget, by reducing a fee or giving donated meds, but that's only helpful if they don't insist on the extensive testing and other services. They also offer a patient referral credit if you refer friends, but who needs that if you don't feel your pet is being cared for properly? My biggest gripe... When they have to perform ANY service on your animal, they leave the room with your pet which leaves me with a very uncomfortable feeling. Why do you have to take our pet to your "back room" to give him a shot? Our "new" vet performs routine services in the room in our presence. additionally, I noticed over the last few visits at Brea veterinary, that the exam rooms aren't cleaned very well. There has been other animals fur and saliva on the exam table and floors. I do not recommend using this veterinarian. Check yelp reviews of this, and other veterinarians before deciding. Their only goal is $$$$$$$$$ and moving you in out like your pet is a possession not a loyal, loving, faithful part of your family. 3 1/2 stars. Why? EXPENSIVE! Yes, the vets and staff are sweet, but why wouldn't you be when you're overcharging your patients? I've been taking my dog here for a long time -- almost 7 years. I took her in today for her rabies vaccine because I need to renew her license. Very simple, right? I waited an hour and my bill was $87. It's like I'm paying for the formalities. First, you wait in the reception area. Then, you wait in a separate waiting room. The doctor comes in, does a "check up," then, sends the nurse in with an invoice of all the things your pet apparently "needs" (she presented me an invoice of check ups and labwork totaling $500!!). Then, when you politely refuse and say that you only want what you came in for, and you still feel like the world's worst pet owner. The actual time it took to vaccinate her was 2 minutes. Save yourself the money and take your pet to a vaccination clinic instead of paying a frivolous $57 to have the vet make some "hmmm's" and "hummmmmm's". read more

WOW!!! Let me start by saying how thankful Dallas and I are to have met Dr. Massenzio!! We met for our first time at Taste of Brea. She immediately embraced and hugged my dog and well the rest is history!!! I showed her a small looking skin tag on my pups paw and she said to come in to her office and see her. I sure am glad I did because it turned out my baby had Cancer. She walked me through the process of what needed to be done and I followed her instruction. Surgery was done right away to remove the mass and it was sent out for a biopsy, after a long 10 days the results were in and she gave me the best news I could of asked for!!! Stage 1, which meant it did not spread and she removed it!! Dr. Massenzio has been a Godsend and if it wasn't for her being so proactive, his cancer could of spread. I love her for taking such good care of Dallas on top of being emotionally supportive of me during this time. I will now only see her for all other veterinarian check-ups Dallas will need. Because they are a small place you can almost guarantee you can be seen the day you call. If you refer a friend, their first visit is free. Also, they're open on Sundays which is awesome. The thing I don't like about this vet clinic is that the doctors will tell you your dog will need tests for something that they don't really need a test for: ear infections, heart murmurs, dog food allergies, etc. and if you decline they try and guilt you or scare you into getting the test. For example: (1) The vet told me my bull terrier had an ear infection, I told her she was wrong, she told me if I didn't get the infection under control my dog could go deaf, so out of fear I did the test and payed the $50 guess what? It came back negative. The vet did not apologize. (2) A month later she then told me if I got her spayed before all her puppy teeth fell out she would need oral surgery to remove the remaining teeth and insisted I schedule an appointment for spay months in the future. I declined because she was months old already and I didn't want her to have a menstrual cycle before her spay. All my dog's puppy teeth fell out just fine and he adult teeth grew in just fine. (3) The vet told me my breed of dog is prone to heart murmurs and although she couldn't hear a heart murmur insisted I get an EKG done on her "to be safe", I told her no, I went to a different vet and the second opinion said no heart murmur was present. This vet said the exact same thing to a friend of mine and she ended up paying the hundreds of dollars for the EKG just to be told her dog was fine. (4) My dog farted during a vet exam, anyone who owns a dog knows they fart, and the vet insisted the farts were due to food allergies and wanted to do food allergy tests on my dog... for a fart. You just have to realize that they're a business like anywhere else, and they need to make money, and that your dog probably doesn't need that test. read more

We took our newly adopted pet to a large chain boarding first. Our pet came back with some bad habits. We tried Brea Vet and our pet did so much better. The best thing is that they potty trained our pet for us. She spent a week at the Vet with Dr. M and she came back potty trained. They did in a week what my family could not do in more than a year of trying. 6 weeks with no accidents in the house. Woohoo!!! read more

I have to say that our family had been going to this Vet for 7 years and trusted them to take care of our two dogs while we were out of the country for Christmas. Half way into our trip, on Christmas Day, we recieved a call that our dog Baxter had run away from their tech who was hired to take care of our babies. He apparently went after him, but had an asthma attack and gave up. We found out later that he had run away Christmas Eve, but we were not told until the next day. Not knowing then, but he had already been hit and killed by a car. Right when it had happened we had friends and family that would have gone and looked for him, but we were not given that chance. They apparantly had given up until morning. I had taken, for both dogs, their harnesses. They were not used. They said theirs were better, APPARENTLY NOT! Our Family is just devastated! He was a healthy 5 year old dog. Not one to ever run away. IT WAS NOT AN ACCIDENT!. read more

Brought my pup, Lucy in because I couldn't figure out why she wouldn't eat and often hid out in the bedroom all day. I knew something was wrong..Dr M was amazing at discovering what the problem was....IBS... now with the special diet Dr M prescribed she is a totally different happy little girl!...what a relief!!..I highly recommend Brea Vet Hospital...a great group of people that are so caring, friendly & through!..amazing to know that they take the extra steps to care for your pets in the same way you would. ..and I have to say I love Dr. M!...Best place in town! read more

We have been taking our two cats to Brea Vet for around 14 yrs. Dr. Forbes and Dr. Massenzio are top notch vets with many years of experience in caring for cats and dogs. They are very loving, caring doctors and the staff is equally loving to our cats. They take time to explain about the animals and they always check up after we have had appointments to see how our cats are doing. Three weeks ago our black cat was caught by a coyote. I was able to get him in right away to have the doctors attend to him. He is doing well in spite of being bitten in the neck. He broke one paw and lost some nails but with their tender loving care Blackie is doing very well and is starting to put weight on his foot. My dog parents take me here and I get treated like royalty. I have had several incidents that required immediate care and the staff and doctors dropped what they were doing to tend to me (one time a bee sting to which I am allergic, another I ate grapes. Oh boy). I also have a sensitive stomach that has really improved as a result of the food recommendations they have provided. My dog parents always get followup calls after a visit and periodic calls on how I am doing. Both doctors are very nice and thorough and I enjoy seeing them. They have good treats in the lobby too. I came to Brea Vet looking for a second opinion regarding my senior mutt. The love of my life! She is 13 and has had Cushing's disease for 2 years. She also has arthritis and allergies. Her symptoms were not being managed to the best of the ability of the previous vet for reasons unknown to me. I have 2 years experience as a vet tech and have been a nurse for 7 years now. So, I'm able to communicate and manage my dog's symptoms and treatments quite well. That being said; The front office staff and techs are always all so kind and professional. Dr. Massenzio is very knowledgeable and takes the time to ensure all my questions are answered. You can tell she genuinely cares about my dog and my understanding of her treatment. I really appreciate her follow up calls. She doesn't have a tech call, she personally takes the time to call in case I have questions. I came here after buying my new pug puppy. We bought her from someone who had puppies for sale on Craigslist, and it was kind of a shady deal if you ask me. That night we took her home and she had diarrhea and was vomiting all night long. She was sooooooo sick. My husband and I were terrified that she had parvo, we didn't sleep a wink that night. The next day I took her straight to the wonderful team at Brea Vet Hospital. I didn't even have a carrier for her yet so I arrived with her so sick and lethargic in a shoe box. They took great care of her. Gave her subcutaneous fluids and ran all the tests on her to check for parvo and parasites. It turned out that she did have a parasite and they gave me antibiotics to give to her and some easily digestible food for her to eat until her tummy settled. She was like a new pup the very next day! I was so thankful to our wonderful team at BVH!! The girls at the front counter are so very kind and friendly. I've been coming to the Brea Veterinary Hospital since 2002. I can't say enough about the Doctors and staff here. They are so detailed and they love your pets as if they were their own. The doctors even call and check up on your pets to see how they are feeling! But what's more powerful is the feeling you get in the waiting room.... Dogs and Cats feed on energy. It's the only language they really understand. I've been to many different Vets before finding this place and in other Veterinary offices it is a 'nervous dog' environment. However, I rarely see a dog that is not happy in the waiting room at the Brea Veterinary Hospital. They are even excited to go to their appointments! They always seem to push medications, tests, and treatments. They give you a long list of things that you need to have done, and if you don't do it, they make you feel really bad. Dr. Forbes is amazing. I have only been here on a Sunday, because they are the only ones are don't charge an arm and a leg for a Sunday exam. Another point I would like to make is that I referred my parents here and they walked out utterly shocked. My dad was in tears over our sick animal and they made him feel really bad for not bringing him in sooner. Like I said before, not all the staff is bad. We are SO incredibly grateful that this is the veterinarian's office local to our new house. I have had pets for nearly 17 years, and we've made the rounds in that time. Some vets were great, some we will never ever visit again. So, upon moving, we were nervous that the new vet wouldn't be up to snuff for our "kids". Both Dr. Forbes & Dr. Massenzio are very knowledgeable, caring, attentive and understanding. I had an emergency with one of the cats while my husband was out of town (very scary), and there was no issue getting kitty in asap to get him fixed up. The entire office is helpful and kind. Since then we have brought each animal in to be an official patient there and will continue to do so. I get regular calls from the doctors and the staff to check up on my senior cat who is in treatment for his diabetes. These vets actually LISTEN to whats going on with your animal, and take as much time as you need to discuss what the options are. That is rare these days, I have found that a lot of vets want patients in and out asap. We were very please to find that they carry high end food and prescriptions in house (makes life much easier), and they don't gouge you on the price! We also utilize their vet tech staff for pet sitting when we travel (Cynthia is THE best, but all the vet techs are top notch there). Lastly, I will add that we are very particular about who cares for our animals. We're definitely "those people" who read the ingredients on pet food packaging to look for nasty bi products. So if we're this happy with Brea Vet Hospital I genuinely think you will be too. read more

I'm surprised that there are people giving negative reviews for an animal hospital that they've never used nor have had any contact with. That's appalling. I've brought my English Cocker to Brea Veterinary Hospital for wellness checks, dental work, and various ailments. Dr Forbes and Dr Massenzio provide excellent care with compassion. The RVT, Kristin, is experienced and knowledgeable, and creates a relationship with each animal in her care. I trust the doctors, Kristin, and the team to provide the care I want for my Sammy. I needed an emergency vet. on Sunday, New Year's Eve for my two cats who had different symptoms, one with a cough and one with diarrhea. My regular vet. was closed. Brea Veterinary Hospital was kind enough to fit me into their schedule although I am not a regular. Dr. Forbes was very concerned and spent a great deal of time with my cats and me, working out a treatment plan and prescribing proper meds. When my regular vet. contacted Brea for a report, they were accommodated immediately. Needless to say, I am very impressed and would recommend Dr. Forbes to any pet parent! read more

BEWARE: What can I say? Expensive! My wife took my dog in and the doctor was examining him. She says "I can feel something in his stomach!" My wife says "what is it?" She says idk, the only way to tell is thru an xray. Nurse comes in with an estimate for not 1 but 3 x rays! After xray doc returns and says "we did see anything in his stomach, maybe it was just food." HERE'S UR BILL FOR THE 3 XRAYS... Mrs Massenzio on the other hand is extremely nice n caring. read more

As a new client, I watched how my Linus, a sweet adorable 10 year old Bichon, was touched and observed. Dr. Allison Massenzio treated him with respect, talked to him as well as me about what was going on, what needed to happen to take care of his current problems. He was frightened and she respected his fear, my worry and we all came out smiling once the results showed nothing serious! The costs were in line and they provided an estimate before doing ... a mistake I made with a different vet. I was given an appointment that same day.. when I went in for our appointment every one was so nice. Dr. M and the staff are awesome! everyone answered my endless questions. Terrible place. Our beloved dog was horribly mistreated at Brea Veterinary Hospital on Brea Blvd. in the City of Brea. They told us they would clean our pet's teeth while he was out for another surgery. Instead, they overdosed our pet by using an anesthetic twice in one day, which left him unable to walk, eat or drink for three days. They did not return our phone calls. They did not schedule a followup appointment. When I filed a complaint with the California's oversight agency, they claimed they LOST the records. And now a number of different employees are messaging me yada yada. Too little too late. If you love your pet, please steer clear of these people. read more

We have changed vets for both our cats to this Veterinary because we felt Banfield just wasn't helping us with our issues. We LOVE Dr. M and I was reading a review that stuck out to me in particular about Dr. M. It says she was pushy and trying to push more expensive treatment on her. I disagree totally with that statement because I have had numerous conversations with Dr. M and it all came down to is what is best for my cats and how much we can afford to spend to take care of them. She totally gets it that in todays world we have decisions we have to make not only for ourselves, but for our fur babies.
