Had a great meal at The Ruby Slipper Café on Decatur Street. It was very busy when we went, but the service was still excellent -- our waiter was super attentive and walked us through the menu with helpful suggestions. The food itself was delicious and absolutely worth the wait. You can make reservations, which I'd recommend, but if you end up on the walk-in list there are plenty of cute shops nearby to browse. The last time we ate here was over a year ago. This Saturday we thought we would give our neighbourhood spot another go. NEVER again. When we walked in, the restaurant was empty, but for a group of seven who had already ordered and were sitting with drinks. We ordered our drinks and proceeded to then wait for 50 minutes--almost a solid hour for our food. We ordered scrambled eggs, chicken sandwich and tater tots, a biscuit and the "special" crawfish and eggs. A single lady who came in before us and sat at the bar, ordered her food and was served in just a few minutes. We watched the group of seven get all of their food, order a few extra things that then came out in just minutes.. A gentleman who arrived 10 minutes after us was served 15 minutes before us. We almost got up and left. And should have, as absolutely EVERYTHING tasted exactly the same, everything was yellow and brown, and everything was greasy. It was disgusting. Neither of us finished even a quarter of our food. Spent $65, including the tip and will NEVER eat here again. Wasted time and money. Our server was sweet, but the experience completely sucked and we have let others know. In order to leave a review, the app forces a star rating, and does not allow "zero" stars, so we are leaving 1. This is the spot you want to be for a great brunch session. They have various restaurants all over. We ordered the Trifecta, Sweet Heat Chicken and French Toast Bites, and some Irish Coffee. The Trifecta is great since it lets you taste the 3 different specialties of benedicts. The Chicken St. Charles was my favorite of the 3. The Sweet Heat Chicken was great too! It had a nice kick to the sweetness but it was not overpowering. To wash it all down, an order of Irish Coffee, which was quite strong and pretty good as well. This is a nice spot although it can get packed during peak hours. The servers were quick in getting orders and cleaning off the tables. Ruby is really who she thinks she is. She's THAT GIRL. This was our last meal before our flight back home and I'm sooo glad it was because our meal was everything I needed it to be. My cousin and I shared the shrimp and grits and the benedict flight. Do yourself a favor, get both. The benny flight is called "The Trifecta" and consists of their Cochon, Chicken St Charles, and Bayou Shrimp bennies. That's braised pork, fried chicken, and shrimp in a creole sauce, sitting on the fluffiest, butteriest, biscuits. If that's not enough, each was topped with perfectly poached eggs and finished with its own signature sauce. A little dab of hot sauce on each, so yummy! The shrimp and grits in NOLA taste like no other. I didn't grow up on grits, nor can I say I love them, but the ones here were really good. Often times, they throw hella cheese on grits to add flavor but no cheese was needed for these. The texture of the grits is somewhat fluffy? Almost like mashed potatoes, with very minimal grit. The sauce and shrimp on top was divine. Again, add the hot sauce and you've got yourself a warm, cozy meal. This is served with a biscuit and honey butter and lemme tell you, ask for extra of that honey butter. TBH I even put some of it on the Cochon benny, don't judge me. That sweet & savory flavor had me dancing in my seat. Whewwww! I want to make it known - New Orleans makes the best biscuits. Period! They're very busy, and the food does take a min to come out. We had to sit at the bar because tables were full, so the bartender/server there helped us out. He was nice, funny, however when my BF asked for a straw, he picked one up off the floor to give to him. He told him, this is the only straw we have... My BF pointed at the container of straws two people down -_- Very VERY weird and gross. Other than that, he was very personable. Street parking only. They take cash, card, Apple Pay. I had been craving shrimp & grits as soon as I arrived in NOLA. I'd heard raving reviews from friends about Ruby Slipper and I just had to come in for brunch when I had free time during a work trip. My colleague joined the waitlist 15 minutes before we left our hotel (which was a 4 minutes drive). Upon arrival we had to check in with the hostess to confirm our place on the waitlist. We waited for no more than 5 minutes before we were seated. Thank goodness for the online waitlist option because the line outside the restaurant was long! We were hearing wait times up to 40-45 minutes. Our waiter greeted us pretty quickly and ran down the usual favorites. I ordered the shrimp & grits immediately. It also came with their famous buttermilk biscuit and cane syrup butter. All I can say is WOW. This brunch was easily the best meal I had in NOLA that entire week. The shrimp & grits were perfect, and the biscuit pairing blew me away. The cane syrup butter was so phenomenal that I used the entire tin! I ordered my drink, but I told him to surprise me with the food. They didn't have any salmon available, so that eliminated the two dishes I really had my eyes on. To my complete surprise, I ended up with white chocolate bread pudding pancakes. I would have never ordered that on my own, but WOW! I was immediately impressed from the first bite!
