Every time I visit I think of the traditions they maintain and how thankful they are only a short trip away!

I visited this bakery in Little Poland for the second time today. I wanted to get a paczki (a…read morePolish Donut). When it was my turn to order, I asked what kind they had and the woman taking orders said a few things, but all I heard was strawberry. In part because I don't have the best hearing, and in part because there is a plastic shield separating customers from the employees. I asked if she could repeat the types. She stared at me unhappily for about 10 seconds, seemingly trying to make me feel uncomfortable. I said I couldn't hear you. There was obviously a bit of an issue understanding each other, but it became clear that I was asking her to say the choices again. She ultimately repeated them. Complete with annoyed glances. After I heard the types, I said I wanted the strawberry. She said "how many?" I said just one because I wanted to eat it then and didn't need any for later. From her body language and the disturbed look in her eyes, I could tell that she was unhappy, that I was getting just one. Like I was inconveniencing her by making her put forth such effort for just one paczki. I responded that I didn't want it anymore and walked out. I can't remember the last time a person working in a business has been that openly rude to me. I'll never be back. 1 Star

"My grandma and your grandma Were sittin' by the fire…read moreMy grandma told your grandma "I'm gonna set your flag on fire" (Dr. John) Abuela, Bubbe, Grand-mère, Oma, Avó, Obā-chan, Nǎi Nai, or Ammamma are terms of endearment to say "Grandma" around the globe. In Italy, the word is "Nonnie" which just happens to be the name of an amazing Italian bakery we visited today. To be honest, calling Nonni's a "bakery" really shortchanges Grandma, because it is SO much more than that. Yes, of course they sell an incredible variety of beautifully crafted cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and cannolis, but you can also buy breakfast sandwiches, pizza, stromboli, arancino, stuffed breads, grinders, chicken cutlets and more. Their store is awesome, and you'll find yourself staring at their showcases and refrigerated cases. Service is top notch, with plenty of helpful and smiling folks helping you. We picked up an eclectic group of odds and ends - croissants, donuts, danishes, and a big arancini stuffed with meat and vegetables. We attacked that first as an appetizer with dinner, and it was terrific. I can't wait to sample the rest of their wares. PRO TIP Their Italian cookies look amazing, and we will definitely be back to supply our Thanksgiving dessert table with their Rainbow and Birthday Cake cookie cubes.
