Did a quick Yelp search while in the mood for some sweets around the village and decided to give this a try. The ambiance in here is really nice, and the setup is inviting. The service here was good and friendly, no complaints. I ordered a reverse cookie (never seen this in my life!) and a slice of cheesecake. The cheesecake turned out to be very good and cheesy, although it was a good $8 a piece. Still have tried better cheesecake, but it is hard to find really good cheesecake anyway, so I would say this slice was in my top 5. Came here for a quick snack while waiting to meet up with some friends before brunch. Did a quick search on yelp to find something in the area and stumbled across this place. They have an amazing selection of baked goods ranging from sweet to savory. I got the spinach bureka and it was delicious, not too heavy on the spinach and just enough to fill me up while I waited for brunch. I almost wish we had just decided to eat here since there cafe menu looked pretty tasty. Definitely would come back here to try some of their other food! read more

Ummm where has this bakery been all my life. I stumbled into this bakery with the sole purpose of needing to kill some time before a dinner date and I've been drooling to go back ever since. What I ordered: - Decaf Latte with Skim milk - AMAZING. Only gripe was that there wasn't enough of it and I finished it too fast. - Mazipan cookie - holy wow. Garlic and herbs one looked good and seemed very popular among customers with the chocolate babka. Also, every bread came down to $4 from $7.5 close to the closing time. This is my favorite bakery in New York. My favorite item to get is the almond croissant, they are so damn good!! Also their selection of challah bread is great, there is one especially beautiful one that has different seeds and toppings. I get the chocolate babka when guests are coming over and it is amazing!! Always a crowd favorite. Other items to mention- the olive and cheese sticks, and the ruglechs (chocolate and marzipan) all so so good! Just VERY excellent bread. Had a feta/olive loaf and scarfed that thing like carbs were a worry of yesteryear. Their herbal teas were excellent as well. These people are out of their minds. Clearly they depend on a certain type of New Yorker, one who simply doesn't care about throwing money away. The product they sell is OK. Nothing Earth-shattering here, no matter the hype. But their prices are insane. It would be cheaper (and more fun) to book a flight to Paris to purchase the real thing (for much less). Then they force you during Covid to touch their touch-screen check-out tablets, the most annoying form of customer service. The tablets don't work unless your hands are bare. To compensate for this germ-ridden tech idea, they push their hand sanitizer on you. And the worse offense of all: their silly tablet app makes you answer to a "tip" request. This notion that counter people deserve tips for simply performing their "counter" job is ridiculous. If the owner can't afford to pay his counter help, especially at these prices, then perhaps it's time to consider another business. I found the whole experience here dreadful and offensive. read more

I worked in Union square for a couple of years, and Breads was a huge improvement to its dining options. They bake in a way that makes me return to this hectic hub again and again. The pastries and cakes are soft and sweet in a way that makes you forget the guilt of eating it all. If you're going to a Jewish holiday, bring along one of their babkas and you'll be an instant hit. The sandwiches and salads are also great, there is a healthy and wholesome feel to the salmon sandwich. However, I could probably eat two of them for beakfast, so I'd definitely appreciate an upsize on their portions - Breads is not a cheap bakery. The chocolate-nutela rugelach was incredible! I love both nutela and chocolate separately, together in a crossiant like pastry - I'm over the moon! I was surprised by how moist the inside of the pastry was given that the outside was just the right crispy flakiness you want out of a crossiant. Their marshmallow macaroons for passover were a huge crowd-pleaser and pretty too. My one issue was when I bought two boxes of macaroons and a few other things, spending about $50 for a hostess gift and they wouldn't sell me a single macaroon separately to taste what i was giving as a gift, they said they had baked an even number, or some ridiculous excuse, but I found it rigid, off-putting, and pretty unreasonable given what i was spending, and that i was willing to pay for the extra! ** update* thanks for commenting breads! but it wasn't specially made. worst customer service i have ever had. in hanukkah i wanted to celebrate the holiday properly so i went to breads bakery 3 days in a row to try and get a sufganya as their site says they have some. Every time they had none to give me and had to walk home empty handed. the last time i went i tried to call beforehand so i wont have to walk 30 mins only to get disappointed but i called 5 times and they never answered. when i went there and they told me they sold out, i asked why they never answered but the woman just said shes not the one who answers the phone. such a shitty experience. read more

What can I say that hasn't been said? TRULY the best. I went in to pick up a snack before a pre-planned dinner, and I knew i wanted something like the chocolate babka, but not so big, so I decided to ask a few questions. The cashier was so nice! She took the time to explain to me the difference in how both are made and even cut me a small sample. According to her, the babka is far richer than the rugelach due to a difference in the types of chocolate spread. The babka sample was OUT OF THIS WORLD. I had a 1*1 inch cube of it and i could taste the richness. Alas, even though I'm shameless enough to pre-dessert dinner, I had to cut myself off (lol) and just grab a couple of small rugelach. These rugelach were out of this world. The dough was fresh, soft and buttery, and the chocolate just shined through. Honestly this was PLENTY rich for me, so I can't even imagine how the babka must taste. Already planning my next trip back, obviously. Free wifi, an ok amount of available seating (though it was a rainy Tuesday afternoon, so probably not super busy), and a free supply of ice water for when you feel like your tastebuds need a break. I also took a look at the savory breads and, with a slight glisten of olive oil over freshly roasted rosemary and a crisp crust, they looked fabulously mouthwatering too. Their pastries are amazing! I bought few time at this place in past and was a pleasure. Costumer service is TERRIBLE, I made order week and half ago to pick up some stuff for the holiday, I made sure I asked all relevant question, if I will need to wait the long line? It's it's possible to be in hard box so I can travel with it easily, what day and time they prefer? They told me Tuesday and 1:30pm and all will be ready for pick up since I paid in advance. I arrived to that location 1:43pm. When I tried to ask for pre order pick up they tried to send me stand on the long line. I told them my order is for pick up I already paid for it. One of the employees grabbed my recipe took the item that I ordered and literally dump them in the bag and hand them to me nothing was ready as I expected. And when I asked for box he handed to I guess do it myself, since it's clearly wasn't ready and gave me so much unnecessary attitude. If someone should give and attitude would be me for not heaving my order ready. When I got to work and wanted to put the pastries in the box I discover the guy didn't gave me the correct order. Very disappointed over all. With that type of customer service I surly won't come back no matter how good their pastries are nothing worth such a bad customer service experience. Seeing the amazing reviews, I tried this place twice. But both the times I have been disappointed. The first time, I tried Roasted Cauliflower which the cashier said is very popular. It was just so oily and I felt so uneasy after eating that. Today, I went again to the bakery to give it another shot. I got onion quiche, and had asked it to be warmed. But when came back to my desk, found it was cold. I heated it a bit in the office. Again, very oily... had to toss it away! Not sure why would quiche be oily. Also got something like mini croissant, which they said had dark chocolate and Nutella. All it had was sugar!! Also, there was egg spread on top which was not cooked. I don't mind paying extra if the food I get is of good quality. But this place is just so overpriced for nothing. Overall I am extremely disappointed. read more
