The pastries are all beautiful and tasty, but are a bit pricey. So I can only get as a special treat.

I watched a review of Dominique Ansel Workshop, the bakery attached to the Dominique Ansel test kitchen, so decided to try it. There was no rush when I stopped by on a Saturday afternoon which was nice. The shop is nice and airy, very pleasant, with some outdoor small tables. I looked over the pastries in the case, and opted for the passion fruit mango cube, and this weekend only fig tart item. The worker helping me out was incredibly sweet, let me know the fig tart just came out so it was fresh! I started with the cube and I was so impressed. Filled with pudding, really really light pastry, and nicely flavored! I didn't expect to like it as much as I did. I then moved on to the fig tart (the real name which I don't recall, I wish I had taken a photo!). This tart, was absolutely incredibly, one of the best desserts I have eaten. Overflowing with figs, great taste, nice crust. I will definitely be back to try their new items!

Epiphany started on January 6 and Galette des Rois aka King's Cake eaten. Naturally Chef Dominique has it at all his patisseries. I came to the Workshop to see the offerings. There were two versions, almond frangipane and pistachio in slices for $10 each. I chose the almond. First, Kidest gave me a taste of a matcha cookie which I found unappealing as I don't like matcha. Then I had a taste of the new blueberry chocolate chip cookie which was unusual. I wished her, Chef Dominique and Sal best wishes for the New Year. Sal showed me the new pastries and I told him about my favorite that sadly was retired. Always a pleasure to feast my eyes on the display case.

I stumbled across Dominque Ansel Workshop while waiting to go into a museum just down the street. When we walked in the female employee was doing an amazing job at explaining their products to the customer in front of us. The fact that she took the time to describe things and answer the gentleman's questions was in my mind above and beyond. Then it was our turn. She did the same. The make employee also was extremely helpful. I ordered the olive oil rosemary croissant, apple dumpling lantern and a blooming hot chocolate. The croissant was mouth watering. I was torn between that or the butter croissant. With the help of the employee describing it to me so I chose the olive oil. I highly recommend it. The apple dumpling was perfect. The apple inside was nice and soft, but not overly soft. The crust on the outside was the perfect amount. Honestly it was the perfect pairing and the perfect about of apple and crust. It was lightly dusted with sugar and cinnamon. The employee was kind enough to ask me if I was going to film my hot cocoa. Absolutely! So she brought it out and had it all set up ready to roll. It was fun to watch the flower bloom. The hot cocoa was almost like pure melted chocolate. I was in love with it. Perfect for a Friday morning. Bright orange boxes decorated a cute little area with two standing tables are available to enjoy your treats. That is where we were to sample all our goods. It was a cute little private area. Pricing was extremely reasonable! Which made it easier to pick a few things. Overall our experience was fantastic and I would defiantly visit again. Reels on IG: little.birdie.notes

Yum! Picked up a seasonal treat - the apple cider cinnamon roll - and it didn't disappoint. The staff offered to warm it up for me, but I politely declined since I had a bit of a walk home. I heated it up for 10-15 seconds and the frosting was perfectly softened and melty and there was a lovely surprise of apple pie filling at the bottom of the roll. Looking forward to trying out some of their other fall flavors

This place is best of the best and my favorite along with my son. Always fresh always in stock big lines at k e of the location but always worth it .

Dominique Ansel Workshop is the smaller and pastries-only test kitchen of the Dominique Ansel bakeries. Here, you'll find the limited-edition, weekend-special, blink-and-they're-gone bakery items. It's takeout only, but there are a few tables outside if you want to savor your treats right away. * Brown Sugar Kouign Amann (DKA): a true standout. Each bite was perfectly crisp and flaky, with layers of caramelized brown sugar adding a satisfying sweetness that wasn't too overpowering. * Cherry Blossom Castella Cake: super light and spongey, with a delicate floral taste. Sadly, only a weekend special. * Blooming Hot Chocolate: Rich, thick chocolate with a marshmallow flower that "blooms" as it melts- delightful!

Visit regularly with my dog before going to Madison Square Park. They always have a varied assortment of croissants and pastries whether you're looking for savory or sweet. Also love their coffee. Can't wait for his new store to open by Union square.

I've always heard of the Cronut but this is my first time visiting one of Dominique Ansel's establishments. Sadly, this location doesn't have the Cronut but we did not leave disappointed in the slightest. We had a tough time choosing what to order as everything looked amazing, but ended up landing on two items: the Mango, Passionfruit, & Coconut Riz au Lait Cube and the Brown Sugar DKA (Dominique's Kouign Amann). Mango, Passionfruit, & Coconut Riz au Lait Cube: messy and difficult to eat but oh so worth it. I would never have thought of putting rice pudding in a pastry, but I couldn't get enough of it in combination with the mango passionfruit curd. Creative and one of the best pastries I've ever had. Brown Sugar DKA: a well done Kouign Amann. Delicious without any twists. Front staff we very kind and we even saw Dominique Ansel at work! It's admirable that someone with so much success is still hard at work rather than just coasting on by. This is obviously a (delicious) passion of his.

The double chocolate chip cookie here was so good, I highly recommend trying that. I liked the earl grey mascarpone pastry and the coffee cake croissant nest as well but that one was a bit hard to eat. I still recommend all 3 of those though. Service was fast and friendly. This location is a to-go vibe. I'll be back one day.

I've been to Dominique Ansel so many times but this is my first at their Workshop! I was excited to check out their savory pastries, and they did not disappoint! The spinach and gruyere quiche was delicious. Not only was the egg part really soft and balanced out the pesto-like spinach flavors, but also the layer of cheese made a great cheese pull while offering additional textures. Even with just microwaving to reheat it, the crust was still intact and flakey. The plié featured strong earl grey tea flavors and mascarpone on the other side. Wish it had more pecans but otherwise was tasty! The flourless chocolate pecan cookie had the right amount of chew and crispiness for a cookie, and loved the generous amount of chocolate chunks/pecans. The store only has 2-3 high top tables and can feel a little busy with the bakery hustle in the background. Good amount of seating outdoors with floral decorations. Staff were really friendly and nice!!

Finally a VEGAN option! Now both me AND my partner can enjoy your delicious pastries!

I absolutely love everything about this wonderful workshop and the only reason I can't give it 5 stars is because the wasteful packaging. If they can manage to minimize packaging, I and the planet would be so grateful. Perhaps they can consider giving customers a $1 discount if they use a reusable bag? Merci beaucoup for the consideration!

Dominique Ansel Workshop Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Dominique Ansel Workshop

Can you get cronuts at this location?

No, or else not when we went and seems not usually.

Do they have a place to sit down?

Nothing inside, a few tables on the sidewalk

Is this place still slammed? Just looking for breakfast pastries to go.

Nope. But they have limited choices and that's it. Not worth it. And they were cold. At 10am on a Saturday morning.

What is the updated COVID policy?

You still have to wear a mask inside, where there is no indoor dining anyway. There are tables outside where you can dine without a mask.

I was at this quaint tea shop east of Koreatown earlier in the evening before going to a meal at the excellent new Thai place, Wanglang. The staff was very friendly, and they specialize in matcha, along with having hojicha, genmaicha, black tea, and sencha. Along with more traditional drinks, they also have fruit options as well as black sugar jelly (I presume kuromitsu) and a Japanese citrus that's not seen much here, hyuganatsu. Along with the citrus, this place is rather unique as they had three different matcha options in terms of variety. As I tend to prefer teas pure and without add-ons, I ordered the Matcha Americano, which is simply matcha and water. I went with the 12-oz version for $6 + tax and ordered the Hajime, though I would likely get the Fuku No Midori next time based on descriptions online. The matcha was solid and had a mild sweetness and a light earthiness. However, it lacked some of the mouth coating found in very high-quality drinks from Sorate or Setsugekka, while being similar in price. Still, that is comparing to some of the best, and this was still very tasty and a lot better than 90% of the places in the city, being more comparable to Kettl. I wouldn't mind going back and ordering the other matcha varietal to see whether that is a better comparison. Outside of this, I enjoyed my drink, and the staff was friendly. I hope they do well.

And I commonly see the upstairs for private events like baby showers, bridal showers, or birthday parties on social media. After dinner with my friends, I was looking for dessert and I was glad to see this location closes relatively late on a weekday night at 11 pm. Upon walking in, I was greeted by a waiter who led us to one of the purple velvet chair booths that was perfect for two people and another waiter brought us a pitcher of water almost immediately. The menu is on a QR code already on the table and we were given ample of time to decide. My friend and I both already knew what we wanted to order. I got the purple Yam Souffle which takes 25 minutes to make and my friend got the fried squid tails. We also got a signature Rose Green Milk Tea to share. The waitress who took our order has great memory and recalled all of our items without writing it down. She also reminded me that I could adjust the ice and sugar levels of my drink which I had completely forgotten and would have got annoyed if my drink came out 100% sweetness. Another thing is that my drink order frequently comes out wrong at other locations so I was glad she got it right! Green tea instead of black tea and with milk instead of without milk. The purple Yam Souffle is just like the other locations. Hot, soft cakey texture balanced with an ice cold red bean Ice-Cream. So delicious! The squid tails on the other hand was not what we expected. It came out burnt and hard. The outer batter was not crispy either. We informed one of the waiters and he brought it back to inform the kitchen staff. We received a new batch that was not as burnt and had more flavoring this time around. However, the squid was still hard and not like the ones we get from other locations with smaller crispier pieces. Overall, it was still a good experience and I love the decorations at this location! This might be my second favorite location after the Flushing one. Would love to come back for brunch or hi-tea. Or regular food options when I have not already eaten dinner. My usual go-tos are the twister fries, Santa Fe chicken rolls, fried salted crispy chicken, and the trio dessert combo. However, this location has a lot more variety! We ordered potted rose milk tea to share, Dubai affogato and Brown Sugar Boba Mille Crêpes Cake. We came on a Friday around 4pm. Originally I wanted to try the strawberry matchamisu, however, was told that it sold out. What a bummer. The rose milk tea came with a themed pot and cups which is really cute. The rose fragrant smelled so good and the milk tea also tasted good and has a hint of rose taste. The cake was good, the boba was well cooked, chewy and flavorful! This time there was an unpleasant experience. At first when the Dubai affogato was served, we did not realize that the amount of the coffee was little until we saw another customer's dish that the volume of their coffee looked significantly more than ours. My friend brought it to the waitress attention but the waitress brushed it off and did not acknowledge our concern. When we finished and were about to leave, the same waitress came over and showed us that the container of the coffee was different and hence the volume of the coffee looked different. At this point, we did not care for it anymore. We would have been fine if the staff acknowledged our concern. We thought that maybe using standardized containers for the coffee would avoid this problem. Other than that, the food and drinks were good.
