Really excellent pastries here. We got there around 9:30am on a Wednesday, and there was a very small line. The framboise Kouign-amann was by far my favorite, but the rose pistachio croissant was great as well. Fantastic bakery on a great street. I came here in the middle of the day on a Wednesday so there was no real crowd. I totally get the hype. The seating area they have upstairs is very cute with the marble tables and hard wood and brick accents. I sat at an adorable table in a corner right next to a window and could have stayed for the entire day. I placed my order around 3pm so they didn't have everything but I wanted the pistachio rose croissant and they did have that. Im afraid the rumors are indeed true. L'Appartement 4F croissants are worth standing in the rain for. That's what me and my family (visiting me from FL) had to do for just a bit. Thank god we got there before the line developed. However, my mom dropped her pistachio croissant and got back in line! My mom is a picky eater and for her to do that was a big deal! The kouign aman framboise was the best! Definitely could have used more raspberry filling though. Same with the pain au chocolat. It would have been incredible with at least 3 sticks of chocolate, on both sides and the middle. Huge focaccia delicious. The upstairs seating area is very cute! This bakery is for take out only by the window. I arrived there about half hour before it opened and there was about five more people coming to form the line. The croissants are buttery with good amount of filling. I had the pistachio rose and I enjoyed it very much. The pistachio filling isn't very sweet and I didn't notice the rose at all. LOCATION: Easily missed small window with some of the available pastries showcased at the front. No sitting/waiting area so we walked just a short distance to Washington Square Park. FOOD: We only ordered the cookie which was good, not overly sweet, slightly melted chocolate chips, light salt on top to offset the sweetness. The cookie itself was a bit soft inside (it's all a matter of preference though) and very buttery which added to the flavor but was oily on the hands. SERVICE: Fine. West Village bakery window, Saturday around 1pm, no line, still had a large selection however they were out of the raspberry croissant I wanted to try... When I got to the counter to see what was available I tried to ask the cashier what the different types of croissants were since it wasn't immediately obvious to me. I'm so excited this Brooklyn bakery now has an outpost in the Greenwich/west village area! For croissants, I tried the everything bagel croissant and it was crispy, buttery and flavorful. I came here with a few friends early on a Saturday hoping to beat the lines after hearing about here from social media. While there still a line around 10am, it did move relatively quickly. The food and drinks were a bit of a mixed bag. I got a drip coffee, baguette sandwich and a pistachio croissant. I tried a bite of the plan croissant which my friend got, so managed to sample a few of their items. The baguette was my favorite. The bread was crispy and the ham was nice. I think some butter or cheese would have made it tastier. It was around $12. The pistachio croissant was.... Very flat, almost like it was squashed - in fact all of their fills croissants looked flattened/crushed.. which is disappointing given the premium price. I personally found it too sweet and preferred the plain croissant. The real disappointment is the service - the server was incredibly rude. When asking about the options of croissant, I was just told to "read the menu" - if I could interpret the French terms I wouldn't be asking... the same server very dismissively declared that the coffee she picked up (while handing me my pastries) was "not yours, this is mine" and that I would need to wait at the next window for "mine". That's fine.... they could have been clearer but also just no need for the attitude. While I liked the baguette and coffee, I don't think I'll come back or recommend this place as it was one of the rudest interactions I've had in NYC. read more

We stumbled upon this place randomly and decided to get some coffee. It's like a little hole in the wall, they have no seating and it's right on the street. Out of five stars this place gets a TEN! Heard they would be the best croissants in the city. Of course my first time here, I had to get a plain croissant to verify these outlandish claims. Wow. The airiest, most delicate, buttery, flaky croissant ever. Like what croissants taste like in your dreams and fantasies. Have been here several times again for their specialty croissants, including one of my favorites the raspberry almond one. I went recently (Fall 2025) for their pumpkin almond one which was also very delicious even though I don't like pumpkin. They didn't have the raspberry one though anymore, wondering if they still carry it or if it's seasonal though I saw it throughout last spring and summer. The coffee and matcha here are pretty solid, too, they definitely didn't let that fall to the wayside. They also sell fresh loaves of bread which I'm sure are excellent for your next dinner party. The bakery menu is overall pretty simple/small outside the croissants, leaning more traditional outside of those specialty croissants. But nothing you get will disappoint you. Even their pain au chocolat went CRAZYYYY being suuuuuper airy and fluffy, and nice rich chocolate in the middle (though I wish they put more chocolate in there, but that's not unique to them, it's a thing I have against most pain au chocolats). Keep it up L'appartment 4F. You are indeed the BEST croissant I've found in the city yet (and I've been looking hard). read more

Cute little hole in the wall bakery! I got the raspberry almond croissant and it was sooooooo good. I've never had a croissant like this - usually a chocolate croissant lover. The raspberry jam is more towards the middle/end but it was the perfect amount and it paired so well with the almonds. Yes, yes, yes to their croissants! They didn't have the pistachio one when we went, but the raspberry croissant was amazing. The raspberry jam inside struck the perfect balance of tart and sweet, and the texture was spot-on: crispy and flaky on the outside, soft and buttery on the inside. Soooooo delicious. We also tried the pain au chocolat, which had a lovely flavor and that same soft interior. Personally, I prefer when the chocolate is swirled or layered throughout the pastry, rather than just wrapped around one or two chocolate stick. Au contraire, this apartment "window" is the front of a bakery powerhouse. I peek inside and see many bread choices. I order a latte and a pistachio croissant. I would have liked to see more baked choices, a cookie would have been nice but I am happy with my purchase. My order is filled quickly. I move to the pick up window, fix my coffee and walk to my car. The latte? Perfecto. The croissant? It's a sophisticated croissant and baked perfectly. If I could give it a Zero, I would. It's super rare for me to say so. I came around 10a.m. to check out this relatively new spot-just a few blocks from my home. There was a small line. You order in a window of what appears to be a tiny space on the ground floor- like an apartment. The pastries in the display underwhelming. The cinnamon bun lookalike was reminiscent of fake pastries. I went for "rose pistachio." It felt super heavy in the bag. OMG. Once I opened it, the buttery substance oozed out of a pistachio filling. It was so off putting. The croissant was layered and flaky... probably made on the premises & the notes of rose petals were such a surprise. Regardless, this must be the worst pastry I've ever had. Absolutely horrid, grease dripping down my hand, sloppy filling. How can anyone pose this as trendy or good. Service entitled: when asked the drip coffee source, told annoyingly it was from "partners." Trader Joe's Ethiopian? Honestly The Village boasts such veritable bakeries & superb drip coffee. I've been meaning to visit the BK location for so long but never made it over. The ridiculous lines didn't make me want to go any quicker. I randomly passed by this Manhattan location with a few ppl ahead of me and so happy I did! This is a bakery window-no seats. The line actually went pretty quickly, and the workers seem to be hauling a*s, which I appreciate. In addition, the guy on register was SO kind to me! These 5 stars are for the chocolate croissant. Don't start with your "overhyped" commentary either....THIS IS WHAT I IMAGINE A REAL CROISSANT TASTE LIKE IN FRANCE. An absolutely magical food experience. So simple yet soooo delicious. I urge any croissant connoisseurs to rate it themselves. I also tried the raspberry muffin thingy and it was delicious! Personally (and to my husband as well) we find this bakery to be overhyped. I've heard such amazing things and walked from SoHo to here not long after they opened on a weekday to try. There were already people in line. We were hopeful that was a good sign. We ordered 3 things: raspberry croissant, cinnamon roll & the chocolate chip cookie. We did not enjoy any of them unfortunately. None of the pastries seemed particularly fresh. And flavor-wise none really stood out. It was surprising. People working at the walk up window were kind and it's a cute concept but just fell flat for us.
