Probably the only negative was the wait time for your food, but the quality and taste were worth it. I wantedt a more Hawaiian traditional breakfast, so I ordered the Loco Moco with crispy ginger chicken and coconut curry sauce. This meal was a feast. We're big fans of Kiawe Roots so had to explore the offshoot of Break+Feast on this trip over. The pedigree shone through as we enjoyed our evening in their new space in Poipu. The interior was modern, light and furnishing had clean lines that had a minimalist vibe. We were treated very well by the host and waiter that got us sat and drinks in hand efficiently. The menu had a vast selection and some carry over items that required us to order as the reference point. Our table had Caesar and Wedge Salads, Dads Fried Chicken, Prime Rib, Huli Chicken, Opaka Paka, Mushrooms, Mung Bean Mash and finally the pancake trio dessert. Everything was amazingly on point. The Caesar had mini croutons that were a textural delight and the dressing garlicky with a rich balsamic base. The wedge salad was crisp and offset with a hard boiled egg whose yolk was an amazing dark yellow in color. I picked Dads fried chicken and brussel sprouts for my entree and it delivered. The crunchiness of the coating was light, crisp and packed with flavor. On the side was a dipping sauce that brought heat! Opaka Paka was the daily special which was cooked perfectly. While the dish was delicious, the color of the plate sauce could be brighter. Prime rib was cooked to a tender perfection. Two sauces, horseradish and au jus came with the 16 oz serving. Huli Chicken was tender and moist with a charred skin. This was a hefty portion and could have fed two with plenty to spare. Dessert was just amazing and the proper end to a great meal. We had it with a French press coffee. We've committed to coming back each trip. Looking forward to our next meal. read more

Break + Feast is a nice restaurant in the heart of Koloa located on the 2nd floor on the main road. Elevator access and stairs access. After reading mulitple reviews and also reading the history of the business mentioning reservations highly recommended, we made a Saturday reservation at 8:30am. We arrived 10 minutes, checked in, and were seated within a few minutes. Other guests were already seated and enjoying their breakfasts, I would say the restaurant was beginning to fill up. Overall the food quality and taste were excellent. Our server was a nice gentleman, explained the menu well and provided suggestions. Our food came out relatively slow but when it came it was delicious. The reason for the low rating was one of our friends also ordered a macadamia nut pancake but somehow the kitchen missed the order. That being said, our server apologized and said the kitchen is making his pancake and it'll be out soon. Instead of waiting we all decided to eat and enjoy our meals while their hot. Fast forward now that we're almost done with our meals, our waiter came to apologize again and said the kitchen is almost done with the pancake. (How long does a pancake take to make? This was the burning question we all pondered?) Other tables were being served their meals but if there were a mix up in the kitchen and an order was missed, shouldn't that missed order be a priority? Our feeling was YES that missed order should've been a priority and maybe the manager should've stopped by and apologized for the oversight as well? Hospitality customer service 101. Our server offered to place it in a takeout container BUT since we were off to Hanalei for sight-seeing it wouldn't have made much sense, hence our reservations. I hate complaining or bashing a business but with such a high Yelp rating one expects better customer service. The restaurant is upstairs at the Old Koloa shopping mall with an elevator for easy access. Very clean with excellent service. We had a reservation but during the week, mid morning, I'm not sure we needed it. However, be safe so you don't have to wait...make a reservation. We were a party of four. Each of us ordered something different and all of us loved the food. It's worth the money when you get excellent service and food! We made a last minute reservation for 12 people about two hours before we came in, the staff was accommodating and kind. The group ordered a range of things but the big hit was the lilikoi pancakes... if you're feeling like a sweet, do not skip those. The second win was the green chili skillet with brisket. Also don't skip on the lilikoi pancake. We shared it and it was incredible, sweet a little sour and perfectly cooked. The shredded pork eggs Benedict was very lack luster. Break + Fast located in Koloa is operated by the same owners that owned Kiawe Roots. So if you've dined at Kiawe Roots in the past, you already know you're gonna love it here as well! Be sure to make your reservations ahead of time. I love the idea of the Loco Moco Your Way, as it gives you the opportunity to choose both your protein and your sauce. You have the choice of a beef patty, shaved prime rib, pulled pork, ginger chicken, or a veggie patty; and for sauces, green peppercorn demi, coconut curry, or green chile. We enjoyed the shaved prime rib with the green peppercorn demi. Due to the non traditional sauce and meat, it didn't feel like a Loco Moco but was delicious none the less. Just don't order it expecting a traditional Loco Moco. We also tried the green chile skillet and lilikoi pancakes. The green chile skillet was delicious and tasted like a Tex-mex dish. Anything with the crispy shredded potatoes was AMAZING if you like hash browns. It's perfectly crispy, a little bit into burnt territory but I'm not hating that (at all!- I love the crispiness). We finished our brunch off by sharing the lilikoi pancakes. I'm not much of a pancake person but they were a nice finish to the meal. They are also open for dinner, which I hope to try next time I visit. Since it is pretty close from where we were we went to try it out. The place was nice, clean and new looking. we were there at 7.45am and was seated quickly as there were lot of empty tables. This place is a gem! Slightly tricky to find because it's up on the second floor, but this is an amazing little spot for really great food. One of their regulars is a friend of mine and recommended it for breakfast when we were on vacation in Kauai this past weekend. I have to say it was one of the best eggs Benedict I have ever had. There was a beautifully cooked brisket on top of an herbed focaccia bread with a homemade hollandaise sauce on top. The herbs in the focaccia added an extra depth to the flavor that you wouldn't have in regular eggs Benedict with just an English muffin. Although this was served with no sides, you didn't really need any. We also got a single Lilikoi pancake, which is topped with a Lilikoi butter, a Lilikoi curd, and candied macadamia nuts. If you like passionfruit, it is amazing and a treat for your tongue. Boyfriend got the Wagyu breakfast steak with over easy eggs and hashbrowns. I got to try a piece and it was divine... That steak was aged perfectly, cooked to medium rare and tasted like heaven. For logistics, they have bathrooms outside the front door, parking in the back, and an elevator to get up to the second floor if you don't like stairs. It was clean and tidy inside, a nice aesthetic. The service was great, and the waiters and waitresses were extremely attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. This is definitely on my checklist whenever I go to Kauai in future. read more

Then I was craving Kalbi and it was perfectly marinated with so much flavor, came with rice and some grilled veggies. 10/10 for sure. We also ordered the wasabi pea crusted fish. Does not taste like wasabi at all ( a good thing) so don't let that throw you off from trying this one out. We'll be coming back to try their brunch menu and again for dinner during our trip!
