I've eaten at Lava's on a couple of different occasions during my time in Kauai, since it is connected to the Sheraton Kauai Resort. The restaurant itself is fine, but nothing overwhelmingly great, other than the spectacular beachfront view of the ocean. The Elite Member Breakfast is served here, and per Marriott's continuous decline in service to Elite members, it's fine, but nothing to write home about. The breakfast option I primarily chose was the "Kauai Breakfast," which includes a very small and not great tasting egg frittata, along with a couple slices of pineapple and a Greek yogurt parfait with fruit and granola. I've also tried their tempura green beans as an appetizer, which were actually quite good. They came served with a side of wasabi ranch dipping sauce, and they hit the spot! I would certainly eat these again. Overall, a decent place if you're looking for convenience, but there are definitely better food options available nearby. read more

I decided to have a nightcap (or two!) at Lava's On Poipu Beach, on the ocean side of the Sheraton Kaua'i Resort Villas. It was time to wind down my first night here, but I also wanted to try one of only two bars/restaurants on the property during my limited time. Whenever I stayed at a hotel, I always wanted to try any onsite restaurants with hopes of getting a well-rounded experience. OVERALL Wrapping up the night with a couple of drinks at Lava's On Poipu Beach was pleasant, soothing, and I would love to return to actually try their food which looked and smelled amazing when I was in the area beaching. I enjoyed my drinks, they surprisingly weren't overly priced, the views were not to be missed during the daytime, and the service was on-point and very professional. UGHHHH, if anyone had the pork belly dinner entree that I wrote about in my previous review from December 2023, they would know that it really was to die for. I literally have been waiting for the chance to come back and order it again. But all good things must come to an end it seems. We came back with high hopes, to be disappointed after speaking with her server that there have been some changes. The chef that we loved from our last visit left the restaurant, and how unfortunate. Gone as well was the lovely violin music. Our entire meal may have been plated nicely, but the taste was a whole different story. I opted for the pork belly tostada pupu and I could barely stomach it. The pork belly was cooked beyond edibleness - way too hard and absolutely no flavor. Everything we ordered was was just blah in terms of flavor. The huli chicken was probably the only dish that was decent, but the brussel sprouts were overcooked and mushy. Lilikoi ceviche came with chips and guac but everything was bland and lacked flavor. They were also out of pasta that night to add to the pain. You'd think you can't go wrong with a keiki chicken tenders and fries, but even the fries had no flavor. Super bummed with the entire meal. Service was friendly though and we had a nice chat with our server, but I'd probably pass next time we are in the area. read more

Returned for lunch the next day. Since I raved about the fish sandwich to my hubby, we both ordered it. The fish was thick but was somewhat dry. We asked for more sauce, thinking this would make a difference. What I later realized is that it had a very scant amount of the lilikoi slaw which would have added a tang and unctiousness to the fish. Anyway, I was somewhat embarrassed to ask for it since we already asked for the sauce. Don't get me wrong. The fish was very fresh. Staying at the Sheraton this was the convenient beast and quick dinner place available to us. With elite status they have some easy bfast choices which are pretty good, like oatmeal, frittatas and fruit and yogurt, continental etc included - you can also get an upgraded one for $14. Portions are large and it's fresh with respect to the fruit. We only had salads for dinner but both the island and wedge salads were tasty and well prepared. Service in general was very good, and it was nice to be able to see the sunset from the table. We were happy with our experience. read more

Came here last night about 40 min before closing to get a drink and we got seated right away! Annie was our server. She was very friendly and delightful! This restaurant's I right by the beach, it was dark so you can't see th beach but you can definitely hear the waves while enjoying your drink and meal. We ordered the ceviche and the seared catch . Th ceviche had a little hint of spice but not overpowering . It was just right .I love ceviche and this was a hit for sure! . The seared catch i ordered the mayo mahi and it came out perfect! As jetlag was catching up to us, my husband and I decided to go to Lava's for dinner since we were staying at the Sheraton. It ended up being a late lunch (dinner starts at 5pm) so I got a Wedge Salad and he just got the Coconut Shrimp, which he says is the best coconut shrimp he has ever had. The Lilikoi Cheesecake was also a huge portion. Otherwise, it was a decent meal but kinda pricey. read more

It's pretty much impossible to beat the location for this place. You're literally right on the beach. It is incredible. We are staying at the Sheraton and decided to hangout by the pool and beach and order some drinks and food. The woman serving us was extremely friendly and prompt. We tried our first mai tai and it was delicious. We started with the lilikoi ceviche. I could literally sit by the beach eating that all day long! Then my husband got the ahi poke bowl. He really enjoyed it. I got the fish sandwich with fries and it was amazing. I got a Diet Pepsi and it wasn't very good. So confused by the low reviews. We had the Island Fish and Bulgogi Steak as well as the salad. All were so delicious. Steak and fish were moist and perfectly cooked. We were guests at the Sheraton the week of 9/28/25 and went to Lava's for breakfast and dinner on 10/2. The loco moco for breakfast was SO GOOD. I loved the red wine gravy and mushrooms. I ate the entire meal, and it was much better than the loco moco we had at HoloHolo at Koloa Landing earlier in the week. Highly recommend for presentation, flavor, and atmosphere. We then returned for dinner and were served by Gian Franco, who was an EXCELLENT server! We were enjoying our meal and drinks for a good 3 hours for our last night in Kauai. My spouse and I both had two mai tais; flatbread for an appetizer, and a full rack of ribs to share for dinner. The ribs were absolutely OUTSTANDING. Tender, flavorful and abundant. We even took some back to our room there was so much food. Gian Franco was an excellent server; very charming and attentive. We had dinner at sunset, and I am so glad we chose to go back to Lava's for dinner after having breakfast there, vs. Rum Fire. For a resort breakfast place, it was really good. Their coffee was a great dark roast. Excellent for sitting by the beach. They pass pog to if you want it. The burrito was really good. My problem is that it wasn't as good as Dukes on Maui. Not their fault, but that's what I compare everything too. Their signature pancakes were a show stopper. I'm normally opposed to chocolate chips in pancakes, but the chocolate, banana, mac nut and everything else really worked. My wife thinks they may be her favorite all time. Definitely top 5 for sure. I tried them and can't disagree. The service was a little slow, but we're on vacation. Good job overall! read more

This was our go-to restaurant while staying at the resort: it was convenient and the wait line was short. This is a pool side, cabana style bar/dining area. Consequently, it is open Hawaiian air dining - quite enjoyable. The staff was attentive and accommodating (we tend to adjust our table to avoid the sun). The vibe is quite relaxed and the Mai Tai's were good (which enhanced the people watching). Their menu is limited, see my pic. On this evening we started by sharing the Island Salad, with their "enhancement" of chicken (extra cost). As you can see in my pic, everything was fresh. It was a nice mix of tropical fruit (papaya: sweet and creamy), savory (check out the bacon), protein (the chicken was a bit over cooked) and crunch (greens and tomato). We followed this with the Lava's Classic Burger, double. This met expectations. The patties were still plump and not over cooked and the bun held up well. The veggies added a nice crunch - I had this to my doctor's limit. We were here several times, and enjoyed the restaurant each time. read more

Restaurant is located in the Sheraton hotel, near the main pool and beach. We ate here several times during our week stay in Poipu. During our time here we had the coconut shrimp, pot stickers, island salad, Caesar salad, macadamia nut crusted mahi mahi, wasabi seared ahi, Kung pao beef, Mongolian beef, and Asian style crispy pork belly. The stand out was definitely the Mongolian beef! We enjoyed all the food we ordered, but nothing else stood quite as much. Severs were kind each visit, and attentive to drink refills. Restaurant can be loud if located on the poolside, but much quieter inside and has a great ocean view. Restaurant is maybe 20 yards to the beach and very accessible. read more

Quite good. * Wagyu Burger -- Ordered the double patty for just $2 more. Comes with cheese, lettuce, tomato, and side of chips. Flavor was ok. Maybe a bit on the dry side. Service is friendly. Last week we visited for dinner; we had the coconut shrimp, riblets and some drinks for happy hour. For dinner we had THE BEST salad and macadamia nut crusted mahi mahi, it was 10/10, far better than Red Salt (that is an overpriced restaurant at Koloa Landing). This is basically the house poolside restaurant at the Sheraton Kauai Resort and I think it's important to judge it in that genre. It's not someplace I would go TO Poipu for, but it's the kind of place you might well need to eat in while in Poipu. The breakfasts are quite good. Even just the coffee, the pog juice and the fruit plate is a pretty good setup, but the French toast, the kahlua benedict and the Portuguese sausage are all very nice additions. Lunch is also pretty good, with a solid kids menu, sandwiches and salads, etc. Dinner is pretty questionable. The prices go up and the deliciousness goes down -- you are more likely to get stuck with things like a wasabi-ish piece of seared ahi on a bed of mashed potatoes. Who wants to eat seared ahi on mashed potatoes in Hawaii? Dinner would be better if they just has the lunch menu, Anyway, I technically ordered from this place probably a dozen times in the week I was here, maybe half of these orders were takeout orders from the pool deck for my kids. So it was clutch for what it was, but we constantly found ourselves making dinner plans elsewhere to avoid having to eat here. read more

Lava's has been our go to place to get our regular cuisine morning, noon, and night. All of their staff are stellar and so sweet. Everyone treats you with the Hawaiian love and I feel it a mile away. We've eaten so many times here that I can't keep count. Depending on what time of day you can get their Loco Moco that I love in the morning block! But if you are in the lunch time frame you can get their Koloa Poke Bowl. It comes with their fresh Hawaiian raw ahi, seasoned in their traditional style Big Island KuKui Nuts, Kaiona Beach Opo, pickled carrots, edamame, Wakame, Toboki, along with their sticky rice. I'm sure I'll be back here a few handful of times before I leave the island because it is that good. read more

Delicious beachside lunch at Lava's yesterday... Lava's on Poipu Beach has a pretty decent menu with breakfast, lunch, and dinner choices for all. While sitting on the beach enjoying the hotels 4th of July festivities, I sipped on the most delicious lilikoi vodka lemonade and had the best mahi mahi tacos I have ever had. I would have rather had fries instead of tortilla chips, but that's just my goofy taste preference...lol! Stopped by before 8am and was seated right away. The view from our table was beautiful! We ordered Sunrise French toast, classic breakfast and kids pancake breakfast. Our food came out pretty fast and the food was delicious. The fruits on French toast and pancake was fresh and sweet. I agree with most people's reviews here about the food quality. We came here and it's a hit or a miss and mostly miss. Breakfast was ok, but lunch (chicken sandwich) was literally rock hard. I got it for my toddler but felt awful feeding him that, so instead gave him some other food which was more edible. Their hummus was great which we ordered twice. Then again back to dinner, kung pao chicken was pretty bad.. chicken was like rubber and the whole dish was as if we were eating something super greasy. Honestly our first day was about chilling at the hotel, pool and beach and we decided to stay indoors and grab food there and this was our biggest lesson learnt to never grab food from here again sadly :( the island has so much more to offer... and we ate outside after this day and I he food we got was so much more fresh and delicious!
