I've eaten at Lava's on a couple of different occasions during my time in Kauai, since it is connected to the Sheraton Kauai Resort. The restaurant itself is fine, but nothing overwhelmingly great, other than the spectacular beachfront view of the ocean. The Elite Member Breakfast is served here, and per Marriott's continuous decline in service to Elite members, it's fine, but nothing to write home about. The breakfast option I primarily chose was the "Kauai Breakfast," which includes a very small and not great tasting egg frittata, along with a couple slices of pineapple and a Greek yogurt parfait with fruit and granola. I've also tried their tempura green beans as an appetizer, which were actually quite good. They came served with a side of wasabi ranch dipping sauce, and they hit the spot! I would certainly eat these again. Overall, a decent place if you're looking for convenience, but there are definitely better food options available nearby.
(Drank 04/24/26 FR @ 8:30pm): Please... no dangerous lava on beautiful Poipu Beach while I imbibed! I decided to have a nightcap (or two!) at Lava's On Poipu Beach, on the ocean side of the Sheraton Kaua'i Resort Villas. It was time to wind down my first night here, but I also wanted to try one of only two bars/restaurants on the property during my limited time. Whenever I stayed at a hotel, I always wanted to try any onsite restaurants with hopes of getting a well-rounded experience. They offered breakfast (7am-11am), lunch (11am-5pm), dinner (5pm-9pm), and drinks (all day and a daily Happy Hour 2pm-3pm). They even delivered to your room if you were feeling lazy or not well. Would I order a themed cocktail such as a lava flow, or something else while I lazed steps away from Poipu Beach!? PURCHASE(S) Poipu Paniolo Cocktail ($18.00): Made with cranberry juice, lemon juice, ginger ale, simple syrup, Buffalo Trace bourbon whiskey, this was an effervescent fruity sweet elixir with a kiss of harshness from the whiskey. An easy hazy to enjoy! SERVICE One busy friendly woman managed the drinking degenerates at this "late" time of night (everything closed early on Kaua'i) before they closed-up in about 30 minutes. I quickly scanned the drink menu for my first victim, ordered that, and once last-call was made, I placed a final order. Each time, I was able to watch my drinks be prepared and gracefully ready. Everything was straightforward, and she did a wonderful job filling the orders, cleaning her station, and getting us out of the bar - mahalo! PARKING (Varied; N/A this instance) I had no vehicle, so I simply walked from my room. However, there was a nightly $40.00 fee for guests if they parked on the property, and there might've been some free parking along the many nearby roads and streets. Make sure to carefully read any posted signs. Plenty of natural lighting everywhere while numerous electric ceiling lights filled in the rest. There were several TVs all around the bar area but couldn't recall any background music since I was chatting with fellow strangers. ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL Wrapping up the night with a couple of drinks at Lava's On Poipu Beach was pleasant, soothing, and I would love to return to actually try their food which looked and smelled amazing when I was in the area beaching. I enjoyed my drinks, they surprisingly weren't overly priced, the views were not to be missed during the daytime, and the service was on-point and very professional. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $28.00 BEFORE any discounts, points usage, and/or tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice... AMEX! 4.0 STARS
We came by for breakfast as we were staying at the Sheraton and had a breakfast voucher. The classic breakfast comes with yogurt, an egg frittata and pineapple. Pretty simple but good and filling enough to get us through to lunch. Service is a bit slow but I can see this primarily attracting people from the Sheraton or nearby condos.
UGHHHH, if anyone had the pork belly dinner entree that I wrote about in my previous review from December 2023, they would know that it really was to die for. I literally have been waiting for the chance to come back and order it again. But all good things must come to an end it seems. We came back with high hopes, to be disappointed after speaking with her server that there have been some changes. The chef that we loved from our last visit left the restaurant, and how unfortunate. Gone as well was the lovely violin music. Our entire meal may have been plated nicely, but the taste was a whole different story. I opted for the pork belly tostada pupu and I could barely stomach it. The pork belly was cooked beyond edibleness - way too hard and absolutely no flavor. Everything we ordered was was just blah in terms of flavor. The huli chicken was probably the only dish that was decent, but the brussel sprouts were overcooked and mushy. Lilikoi ceviche came with chips and guac but everything was bland and lacked flavor. They were also out of pasta that night to add to the pain. You'd think you can't go wrong with a keiki chicken tenders and fries, but even the fries had no flavor. Super bummed with the entire meal. Service was friendly though and we had a nice chat with our server, but I'd probably pass next time we are in the area.
Returned for lunch the next day. Since I raved about the fish sandwich to my hubby, we both ordered it. The fish was thick but was somewhat dry. We asked for more sauce, thinking this would make a difference. What I later realized is that it had a very scant amount of the lilikoi slaw which would have added a tang and unctiousness to the fish. Anyway, I was somewhat embarrassed to ask for it since we already asked for the sauce. Don't get me wrong. The fish was very fresh. We appreciated that there was a singer that gave a very relaxed island vibe. He was very good! Service was good but not as personal as the previous day.
Inside Sheraton right in front of the beach. Great view of the ocean and nice staff. Great happy hour from 2-3pm. We stayed at the Sheraton, so we were hitting up happy hour the time we stayed and they have great fish tacos.
Great view, good service menu seems to be kind of typical.. we came for lunch because we got a discount coupon from our condo. Mahi fish sandwich and fries were very good and juicy chicken burrito juicy but average. Would come again because of the discount or if I was staying at the Sheraton. Free valet parking for the restaurant a plus!
We decided to eat here after seeing it during a surf session nearby, and what a nice surprise it is! The staff were really nice, and we were seated quickly in a spot that worked really well for our Autistic little one. Awesome cocktails, delicious appetizers, and main entrees on final boss-level My skirt steak was mouth watering, and my older boy raved about the baby back ribs. We're definitely coming back. This spot is a winner!
Staying at the Sheraton this was the convenient beast and quick dinner place available to us. With elite status they have some easy bfast choices which are pretty good, like oatmeal, frittatas and fruit and yogurt, continental etc included - you can also get an upgraded one for $14. Portions are large and it's fresh with respect to the fruit. We only had salads for dinner but both the island and wedge salads were tasty and well prepared. Service in general was very good, and it was nice to be able to see the sunset from the table. We were happy with our experience.
Came here last night about 40 min before closing to get a drink and we got seated right away! Annie was our server. She was very friendly and delightful! This restaurant's I right by the beach, it was dark so you can't see th beach but you can definitely hear the waves while enjoying your drink and meal. We ordered the ceviche and the seared catch . Th ceviche had a little hint of spice but not overpowering . It was just right .I love ceviche and this was a hit for sure! . The seared catch i ordered the mayo mahi and it came out perfect! The macadamia chinichuri was perfect! The fish was perfectly cooked it was juicy. The mixed veggies were just right had the right crisp not overcooked. I recommend the place for sure!
It's pretty much impossible to beat the location for this place. You're literally right on the beach. It is incredible. We are staying at the Sheraton and decided to hangout by the pool and beach and order some drinks and food. The woman serving us was extremely friendly and prompt. We tried our first mai tai and it was delicious. We started with the lilikoi ceviche. I could literally sit by the beach eating that all day long! Then my husband got the ahi poke bowl. He really enjoyed it. I got the fish sandwich with fries and it was amazing. I got a Diet Pepsi and it wasn't very good. Overall, it is an amazing way to spend a day on vacation sitting by the beach and enjoying food being served directly to your lounge chair.
I was pleasantly surprised at how much I loved this place! We got the hamburger and the ribs and both were amazing! Also got the lilikoi lemonade which was also so yummy. The food was beautiful and delicious, the pics don't do it justice!! The service was also quick and pleasant. Right by the beach, was a beautiful area.
For a resort breakfast place, it was really good. Their coffee was a great dark roast. Excellent for sitting by the beach. They pass pog to if you want it. The burrito was really good. My problem is that it wasn't as good as Dukes on Maui. Not their fault, but that's what I compare everything too. Their signature pancakes were a show stopper. I'm normally opposed to chocolate chips in pancakes, but the chocolate, banana, mac nut and everything else really worked. My wife thinks they may be her favorite all time. Definitely top 5 for sure. I tried them and can't disagree. The service was a little slow, but we're on vacation. Good job overall!
I was staying at the hotel and had dinner here one night. I sat at the bar and talked with those around me and the with the bartender. I started with a pina colada. This was really tasty. For my entree, I had the BEACH BUM BURGER: Angus beef patty layered with garlic aioli, bacon, creamy goat cheese mousse, pineapple, tomato, teriyaki glaze, stacked on a toasted bun with butter leaf lettuce and served with French fries. I had them hold the garlic aioli and I added regular mayo. I really liked this burger. Very flavorful. Yummy toppings. Fries were good too. I was at restaurant the night before Hurricane Lowell hit. The restaurant was significantly damaged in the hurricane so it will be a bit before it opens again. read more
It's sad that the main restaurant in a resort like this can fail so badly at crafting up a decent menu and using decent quality ingredients. Their menu consists of items that you would typically find at the food court in a mall, with the same quality but about 3 - 5 times more expensive. There is literally not a single healthy option - everything is either loaded with sugar, salt or deep fried. Additionally, there are no vegan options for dinner and they only have a breakfast vegan loco moco. The only redeeming factor is that most of their servers are VERY friendly and will go above and beyond to help you with customizations. Shout out to James, their best server (he alone gets 5 stars +) who could easily work at a Michelin restaurant. read more

We ended up dining here because RumFire didn't have any tables available. We ordered the Grilled Cheese Sandwich, Half Rack of Ribs, Coconut Shrimp, Poke Nachos, and the Fish. Unfortunately, the Grilled Cheese Sandwich was very disappointing. The bread wasn't properly toasted, and the cheese wasn't even fully melted. The Poke Nachos also fell short, as the poke lacked flavor. The fish was dry and overcooked. The Half Rack of Ribs was decent, and the Coconut Shrimp was enjoyable overall, although it was slightly overcooked and a bit burnt. To make matters worse, the service was extremely slow, which made the overall dining experience disappointing. read more

Great service, beautiful environment overlooking the beach and the pool at the Sheridan. The food was great and I had leftovers when I was full. I ordered the breakfast sandwich on a croissant. Will likely be coming back here this trip :) read more
This was our go-to restaurant while staying at the resort: it was convenient and the wait line was short. This is a pool side, cabana style bar/dining area. Consequently, it is open Hawaiian air dining - quite enjoyable. The staff was attentive and accommodating (we tend to adjust our table to avoid the sun). The vibe is quite relaxed and the Mai Tai's were good (which enhanced the people watching). Their menu is limited, see my pic. On this evening we started by sharing the Island Salad, with their "enhancement" of chicken (extra cost). As you can see in my pic, everything was fresh. It was a nice mix of tropical fruit (papaya: sweet and creamy), savory (check out the bacon), protein (the chicken was a bit over cooked) and crunch (greens and tomato). We followed this with the Lava's Classic Burger, double. This met expectations. The patties were still plump and not over cooked and the bun held up well. The veggies added a nice crunch - I had this to my doctor's limit. We were here several times, and enjoyed the restaurant each time. read more

The view is gorgeous, the wait staff was nice but super busy so it was definitely a while between water refills and things like that. One of our party ordered the burger, and it was probably the worst burger any of us I've ever seen. It was super dry, the bun wasn't toasted at all, just cold, and the fries were subpar. I ordered the fish of the day which was spicy and overcooked and on top of a very sweet root vegetable mash. The third person in our party ordered the mushroom flatbread, which was fine but definitely piled in comparison to other good local pizza options like pizza POUNDAHZ or JP's. Because our order took so long to get to the table, they brought us free cake, but the chocolate cake was honestly so dry that the cake part was inedible. The carrot cake was slightly better, but definitely grocery store level. Again, the view cannot be beat, but I definitely wouldn't eat there a second time. read more
Had lunch here today. Convenient of you are staying at the resort. Many tables have a nice ocean view. Lunch service begins at 11 am. We ordered... * Fish Tacos -- Mahi mahi was decent portion and nicely grilled. Garnished with cabbage slaw and a bit of avocado. Side of tortilla chips and salsa. Quite good. * Wagyu Burger -- Ordered the double patty for just $2 more. Comes with cheese, lettuce, tomato, and side of chips. Flavor was ok. Maybe a bit on the dry side. Service is friendly. Food is ok, and a maybe a bit on the pricey side but to be expected for a hotel resort. read more
Last week we visited for dinner; we had the coconut shrimp, riblets and some drinks for happy hour. For dinner we had THE BEST salad and macadamia nut crusted mahi mahi, it was 10/10, far better than Red Salt (that is an overpriced restaurant at Koloa Landing). Go here for your fish and seafood needs! the HH menu is great and you cannot beat the view. One of the best foods we had on the island. read more

Lava's has been our go to place to get our regular cuisine morning, noon, and night. All of their staff are stellar and so sweet. Everyone treats you with the Hawaiian love and I feel it a mile away. We've eaten so many times here that I can't keep count. Depending on what time of day you can get their Loco Moco that I love in the morning block! But if you are in the lunch time frame you can get their Koloa Poke Bowl. It comes with their fresh Hawaiian raw ahi, seasoned in their traditional style Big Island KuKui Nuts, Kaiona Beach Opo, pickled carrots, edamame, Wakame, Toboki, along with their sticky rice. I'm sure I'll be back here a few handful of times before I leave the island because it is that good. read more

Delicious beachside lunch at Lava's yesterday... Lava's on Poipu Beach has a pretty decent menu with breakfast, lunch, and dinner choices for all. While sitting on the beach enjoying the hotels 4th of July festivities, I sipped on the most delicious lilikoi vodka lemonade and had the best mahi mahi tacos I have ever had. I would have rather had fries instead of tortilla chips, but that's just my goofy taste preference...lol! However, my lunch was so tasty that we will 100% be dining at Lava's again during our stay on Kauai. Our server Jasmine was great too! She's super friendly, and gave us great suggestions. read more

I agree with most people's reviews here about the food quality. We came here and it's a hit or a miss and mostly miss. Breakfast was ok, but lunch (chicken sandwich) was literally rock hard. I got it for my toddler but felt awful feeding him that, so instead gave him some other food which was more edible. Their hummus was great which we ordered twice. Then again back to dinner, kung pao chicken was pretty bad.. chicken was like rubber and the whole dish was as if we were eating something super greasy. Honestly our first day was about chilling at the hotel, pool and beach and we decided to stay indoors and grab food there and this was our biggest lesson learnt to never grab food from here again sadly :( the island has so much more to offer... and we ate outside after this day and I he food we got was so much more fresh and delicious! Please use fresh chicken. This was super rough for our family especially with our toddler. read more
Nice location if you are staying at the Sheraton and don't wasn't to interrupt your beach day. Pina Colada was tasty back lacking rum. Fruit plate was so so, not much for the price. Fish tacos were just okay, but they had a healthy portion of fish. read more

We came to Lava's once a day during our stay at the Sheraton due to sheer convenience. Food was average and service was always slow. If you come at the right time, you can watch the hotel luau from your table, along with beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean. Kids eat free during breakfast and dinner with each entree purchased. Our kids liked their pancakes and sliders. Room service at the hotel also comes from Lava's, but from a smaller menu. Convenient place to eat while staying at the Sheraton, but better options outside if you have a car to explore town. read more
