This great find in the industrial area of Lihue is a local gem. I was up early, hunting for breakfast and saw that this place opens at 6a. I got there at 6:05 and there was already a short line of regular working folks heading to their daily grinds. I was a little intimidated because clearly I was the only tourist to find this place at this hour but everyone is welcome so have no fear. It's a bit hidden not only deep in an industrial area of warehouse-like buildings but also hidden in the corner of a nondescript industrial building with cars parked all over from the various businesses and one small kine sign over the garage door opening. If you blink, you miss it so just look for where all the people are gathering under the small green sign and you are there. I had a moment of panic when I walked up because the menu has so many great things on it that I had a tough time making up my mind. No worries though as the line is patient and the friendly lady manning the window wasn't pushy. It is exactly what you would expect. A local operation with folks hustling in the kitchen to make your food to order. There are daily lunch specials but I have only been for breakfast which was plenty good! In fact it was so good, I'm planning to go back again tomorrow haha. I can vouch for the corned beef hash (made crispy) and eggs with rice and a side of Portuguese sausage. Artery clogging goodness for sure! It's cash only so come prepared and since it is made to order, if there is a line, you will be waiting a bit while they make your order. Tipping is optional but there is a jar at the window. Leave 'em something because I watched them hustle like crazy to feed the working class at the crack of dawn to keep the island running. That is so worth a tip in my opinion. This is really a take-away operation so there are no places to sit. However, do what I did and eat on your hood or in your car. If you are there in the morning, watch all the locals showing up sleepy-eyed but ready to be fed. Hidden gem alert in Kauai If you're looking for a legit local, no-frills breakfast spot, this is IT. I ordered the full Portuguese sausage plate with eggs + added a side of corned beef hash (because why not ) ....and WOW. The sausage was perfectly pan-fried with those crispy edges, super flavorful, garlicky, and just the right touch of sweet. Everything on the plate just hit. Tim got the breakfast sandwich on sweet bread (subbed Portuguese sausage for bacon) and described it as a melty grilled cheese moment with sausage ... and honestly, he wasn't wrong. There is also no bathroom. I went here on a weekday morning around 9 am, and there was no one ahead of me in line. The cashier, Wendy, was so friendly. I ordered a mini spam plate and full Portuguese sausage plate. OMG... this was my favorite breakfast during my entire 10-day trip! The food came out quickly and was delicious!! This most recent visit to the island, we went to Keoki's 3 times during our 14 day stay. It was great each time. My first time getting food there, I just missed the cutoff for breakfast which is 945am. So you bettah get there early or call in your order by 930am, the Aunty said. Always listen to Aunty... I ended up ordering 2 teri cheeseburgers ($4.75) and french fries ($3.50) for my lady and I to share. The teri cheeseburger was tasty but on the smaller side. I need a double next time for sure. The fries were perfectly crispy and salted just right. Specials for the day were: hamburger steak, chicken fried steak & beef luau. The 2nd time I went there, I made it in time for breakfast. Victory! I got a corned beef hash plate (full: $11.75) and my lady got a half plate portion ($8.75). The full portion comes with 2 corned beef hash patties, 2 eggs and 2 scoops of rice. The corned beef hash was good and just what I needed for breakfast that day... I also got a couple of banana bread slices ($3) and they were so good. I remember seeing the Uncle in front of me the previous time, had gotten the last 2 and I wondered if they were good. Now I knew... Perfect wake-up snack. Moist banana bread, thick cut, great flavor. The whole place has a definite "hole in the wall vibe" with catering materials and packaging stacked all around the ordering windows. They also have some snacks for sale (banana bread, cookies, li hing gummy bears). We had the teriyaki chicken plate and the Luau beef. The Luau beef was traditional with plenty of Luau (taro) leaf, but it was light on the beef. Nice subtle flavors and not overly salty. The teriyaki chicken portion was moist, generous and covered in a sweet Teriyaki sauce (too me a bit on the salty side). Both plates came with a scoop of rice and mac salad.
