I've always believed that great establishments deserve recognition, but to that end terrible establishments should also be called out and this place has earned my first 1-star review on Yelp. We came here for a Saturday afternoon booking for bowling to celebrate a friend's birthday, and it's still a little surprising to me how many things were able to go wrong in the course of an hour. - Bowling: The bowling scoring system was malfunctioning, which was more of an inconvenience than anything. It was not registering half the throws and regularly skipped over players. Based on the other reviews, it seems to be a reoccurring issue that ownership has not addressed. It's blamed on the 'old school technology' but we've been to multiple other bowling alleys in San Diego with the same Brunswick technology and they operate just fine. - Service: It was tediously slow to get our beers and the place was barely packed when we were there. We watched our beer tower sit on the bar counter for over 20 minutes before we got it and we ordered the second tower halfway through our reservation. We didn't receive all our cups or our beer until 5 minutes before our reservation ended, at which point we didn't want anymore as we were about to leave. The waitress ended up comping the beer tower which we thought was very nice. -Service^2: We brought in bread pudding as our birthday cake, the waitress was nice enough to bring us spoons for the table, and we sang happy birthday for the birthday boy. I had called to confirm the night before to ask if it was okay to bring in a cake for the birthday celebration. At the end of our reservation, (while we were still waiting for the beer and cups we had ordered half an hour before), the manager approached us with a scowl and informed us that "outside food was not allowed" to which we apologized and let her know that we had called ahead to check that it was okay and that we could put it away. She said "I don't know who you talked to" which has always been the worst excuse to me as a business, because businesses should take accountability for what their employees say, especially when it seems like they only have 3-4 employees in their entire establishment. Again, we apologized and told her we wouldn't have brought anything if we were told it wasn't okay in advance. The icing on top was that the other tables also had outside food with cupcakes, cakes, etc but the manager specifically singled us out. As we were gathering our stuff to move to another table to allow the next reservation to bowl in the lane, the manager approached us yet again and proceeded to take the beer tower that they had just comped and say "I need to take this as you did not pay for it." We didn't argue and we just left because at this point we just wanted to get out of there. To clarify, we did not ask for it to be comped, and while we appreciated the sentiment, it was a bit of a slap in the face to not even 5 minutes later have it confiscated from us in the middle of the bar. TDLR; This review ran on a bit longer than I intended, but overall this place was irredeemably bad in consideration of the bowling (their sole entertainment feature), their service (I hope you're not thirsty because you won't get your orders), and their bordering-hostile customer service. Given the manager's scowl and temperament, it might be better for her to find a different line of work than the service industry. She seems to have a habit of responding to her litany of terrible reviews in a way that belittles and minimizes her customers' negative experiences. We came here last night for the NCAA championship game. It was packed but fortunately we came early to score very comfortable seating for the game. Kelsi was our server and she was great. She communicated how long it would take to get our order to help manage our expectations. She recommended a Watermelon Splash cocktail which was excellent - can't taste the alcohol at all and very refreshing. We came for happy hour and the Garlic Shrimp Fundido was our fave. We also got the Fried Cauliflower, wings and loaded nachos which were excellent as well. Nice to have a comfortable place to watch games and good food in PB where the floors aren't sticky and it always smells like stale booze like some other places down the street. read more

I guess the one star is for our server who was great. The Owner Amy is a pretty horrid human. We went in last night with a 4:30 reservation to celebrate my nieces birthday. Everyone was having a great time even though the lanes suck and were not slick at all. They don't have very many shoe sizes available. Our baby walked down the aisle and was retrieved right away ( not acceptable I know but shit happens) and the man working on a different lane told my Brother in law to be a better parent. Of course his judgement towards my brother pissed him off. The man proceeds to take out his phone and starts recording him about a foot from his face saying why do you look like you wanna kill me? Why do you look like you wanna kill me over and over again. Trying to get a reaction. About 20 minutes before that Amy comes over and tells us that this is not a kid establishment (even though they have kid sized shoes and bumpers) She comes over and complains a second time to us. Then they ended up charging us way extra and then a 20% tip on the lanes. We are always 20% above tippers, but to be charged for the lanes and then tipped on the lanes is ridiculous. We tried to dispute and she would not let us. She would not give her name and you could tell she knew she was wrong. Sat and complained with me for a good 5 minutes called a bouncer on a family.to "handle" a family with kids. I will absolutely never come here again and I hope they go under. Good luck Amy . You are heartless. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE Regrettably brought a large group of friends and family here for a night of drinks and bowling. Not only was food brought to the table undercooked, 2 members of the group were aggressively confronted by someone who claimed to be "manager" at the end of the night that demanded a larger tip than what was left. Despite the very clear shift in energy of the group after this demand, he continued to harass us until we gave into his demands. A very unfortunate and uncomfortable experience. First time going to Break Point. We wanted to try out the bowling and decided to have lunch. I ordered the fish and chips- they were delicious. Probably the best I've had in CA. Batter was crispy and well seasoned. Hubby had the chicken sandwich with sweet and spicy sauce- it was huge! Really tasty, a little messy- but worth it. Kids got the Cobb salad and burger- both were good. We were all impressed with the food! We'll be back for sure! The bowling was fun. Kids had a good time. Nice huge seating areas good for large groups. Next time I'll go back at night for drinks and dinner. Definitely a good addition to the Pacific Beach scene. I must say I was disappointed. Been here twice now and each time a little underwhelming. The bowling lanes arnt regulation length and they have had problems with them malfunctioning and scoring wrong and such. Not a big deal but when they are gonna charge $35 an hour for a lane it's a bit pricey I think. The drinks also are very inconsistent. In the same day when ordering a vodka Cran it's served in a different sized glass depending on which bartender makes it. Also they didn't have all the stuff in the bar area. They had to go to the back to get cranberry juice among many other staple ingredients for common drinks. Not sure I'd be back a third time. If I want to go bowling I'd probably go to a different bowling alley and for drinks there is plenty of other places in the area that are more consistent. Maybe I'll give it a few months and try again and see if they improved. It is a new business and sometimes it does take a while to smooth out the kinks. Only time will tell I guess read more

Came here with a very large group because Crushed was too crowded. We were pleasantly surprised at how good the food was. They have a ton of TVs and a large dining area good for large groups. Turns out this is a Kansas City Chiefs fan bar. But all fans were welcomed. I'd definitely go back especially to watch sports! Our group didn't like the mimosas because it tasted like the champagne wasn't bubbly (I don't know if it was a one time thing or if they use wine or still champagne). I'd pass on the mimosas unless you like non-bubbly mimosas. read more

Came to this place for the first time and it was a total disappointment. You have to wait almost 2 hours to bowl if they reservations. The bowling balls were getting stuck and they don't give you extra bowling time for their mechanic issues. Only 4 lanes in total. The food was overpriced for the low quality we got. We were being told that the event ended when we first walked in, once we fought this they changed their mind and we were told that we still had time to order but we would have to sit at the bar. 3 people walked in and sat next to us about 10 minutes after us and got service before we did. Once we did finally order the siracha tacos, we waited for about an hour for just 3 TACOS before we decided to leave. No one once let us know what the status on our food, or how we doing or if we needed anything else. It was a waste of time. read more

Celebrated our daughters bday here and it was a blast our waiter was attentive and helpful, especially with getting lighter weight bowling balls for the kids and putting up bumpers for the lanes. We came here to celebrate a 40th birthday. We reserved all 4 lanes and had adults and kids in our party. From working with the events coordinator, booking the reservation, to celebrating in the venue and dealing with the servers, bartenders, owners, and up-front host for shoes, we only worked with extremely helpful and kind people. We did have some technical issues with the lanes during the reservation but the owners were extremely apologetic and helpful and made up for it. The venue was pretty, the food and drinks were delicious and the service was really fantastic. All made up for the issues we came across. I highly recommend Break Point for any of your celebratory events or just to enjoy the drinks and food and look forward to working with them and visiting them again! read more

We happened to pass this place on the way to another pub/bar down the way, but the highlight with Break Point were the bowling lanes. Or so we thought :( Amy at the hostess station told my group that a bowling party was running 5 minutes behind their time. They actually showed up 40 minutes behind schedule which made our group forfeit our time slot. But that wasn't the icing on the cake. It's when Amy lied straight to my face when I confronted her and inquired if our group was still good to go....she said we were never on the list but wait listed. For the record there was no misunderstanding. Amy never said there was a wait list. She back pedaled once I mentioned how late the other party was, and used that as an excuse. Most places have a 15 minute grace period if a party doesn't show up, then they lose their reservation. Period. No need for lying and making excuses. We also partook of several food items from menu... the frozen calamari sticks were unappetizing and were returned to kitchen. The asada nachos were pretty lame, I've had better from an ice cream truck vendor. Not great bar food, which honestly is hard to mess up. I really wanted to like this place. The atmosphere was really unique, and when we called to reserve a table for trivia night, they gave us the table closest to the host. But other than that this place was a total flop. I wasn't too hungry so I just got the calamari to nibble on. These things were just glorified fish sticks. They looked like mozzarella sticks but had the firm, chewy texture of calamari. If you're big on texture like I am, stay away. The experience was unsettling to say the least. The service was some of the worst I've had in a while. There seemed to be plenty of people working but I guess only 2 of them were waiters? We had every intention on taking a picture of our food prior to eating, but we didn't waste any time. From the presentation to the overall taste, the food was outstanding. Came for Trivia Night, which was by Sunset Trivia and was great! Unfortunately that was where the positive experiences ended tonight. Service was slow and the food was only passable. The fried calamari was served in the shape of a fish stick and was disappointing to all three of the people that came with us. The seasoning was lacking and after waiting a long while for the apps they were a little cold. Their burger was alright and so were their fries according to the two that came with me. I also got their Collins made with gin, elderflower, lemon, cucumber and mint. It was pretty good, cost $10 and if you're just out for drinks it's not a bad choice. It is sour however, so stay away if you're trying to satisfy a sweet tooth. The best part of the business is the interior design. The bowling alley looks cool, the color palate they chose was nice and their display of sea turtles on the back wall looked awesome. Unfortunately the food and service was lacking enough that I do not see myself coming back for more. There's better places to spend a Friday night in San Diego. Try TapRoom Beer Co. if you're looking for a nicer bar/restaurant that also works with Sunset Trivia. read more

Should be a better venue, but bowling lanes are in poor working order. Our lane continued to have issues even after we asked for someone to check the lane. Nobody ever showed up to trouble shoot. Had to keep adjusting scores because they weren't registering, had to reset every frame, balls continued to get jammed on the return, just felt like work instead of being fun. Food and beverage service were timely, the manager was nice enough to discount our check at the end of the game, but the lanes are poorly maintained, doesn't seem like it's been waxed in a while, balls are pretty beat up. read more

The people next to our lane had trouble with their bowling lane so we didn't mind them hopping over onto ours but then we had a malfunction with the scores and the bowling pins not reseting correctly. Nick and Whit tried to fix the problem but no luck unfortunately. Thank you so much for helping us out and although with the minor problem, they accommodated us with free 1 hr bowling vouchers. (this was not mentioned to us in the beginning or else we would have a 10000% went somewhere else instead of wasting our time) then our balls kept getting stuck and nobody came to help. Food was average, customer service was meh. Don't plan on coming here again which is unfortunate. Seemed like a cool place/vibe. Oh and while the balls are stuck your time still runs. I was very excited to try out Break Point. But quickly my excitement was fleeting. Waiting over at the front desk which was unattended for 10 minutes is not the best way to be welcomed at a new restaurant. Now waiting at my table for 20 minutes without even being attended too and given water. Granted it was a Friday night and it was busy the servers could have at least been more aware. However, I blame management on having only 3 waiters on the floor. As a new business I wouldn't skimp on having enough employees to ensure to provide the best customer experience. The place is undeniably beautiful and the environment is great. However beautiful it is the lack of customer service that takes away from it. I've ordered my food and drinks about 25 minutes in and have been waiting for over 10 minutes to even receive our drinks. And I had so much time to wait and type this review live as I am having the experience that I was able to have a conversation with the table behind me who has been waiting even longer than us. The waitress told us that the reason the wait is so long is because the bowling alleys opened for the first time and they didn't "expect" it to get this busy. I don't even get how this makes sense. If you're opening more of your business I as a business owner would definitely expect business to be busier, which then I would put more people on the floor. NOW 20 minutes later our food has arrived and my friends food was entirely wrong. He ordered the carne asada tacos and received fries. At the end of the night I feel bad that the workers have been trying all they can but don't have the support they need. The food was .... ok. My wife and I ordered the BBQ wings which was good. We would recommend it. On the other hand my friends carne asada taco undercooked. The meat was flavorful but the word my friend described it was chewy. The only thing that was fast about the customer service was when we requested the check. And when it came my beer was overcharged. The only reason this place has a one star is because of the environment. You would think that investing millions in a place that the business owners could also invest in their people. read more

No insctructions given on how to set up and stary your game, so you'll be left figuring that out while your timer continues to run. Came for my first time to enjoy a night of bowling with my bf and our cousin on a double date we came in and the the guy in the front said he would clean the table for us to bowl the younger girl Kaitlyn sat us next to another group of bowlers. I asked Kaitlyn if she can allow us to use the lane next to it that was unoccupied because we were a party of 4 and didn't want to be in the way of the other party and kind of wanted a special date she said that we would need a reservation for a lane minimum 6 people. After she finished talking to me she said she would find out because I wanted to know for the future and she never came back 10 min later I notice a party of (2) people were in the lane I wanted me and my family member which we were on a double date to have a special date but everything she said totally contradícted first experience was not the best experience! I was really happy to enjoy a meal and a cocktail, until three family's worth of adults and children came in to bowl, and none of them were asked to wear a mask. They were not eating or drinking for at least the first 45 minutes of their visit. Bowling is not exactly an athletic activity.
