    Margs
    Melanie M.

I'm keeping the same 3 stars I originally rated it. My friend and I waited about 10 minutes to be seated on a Saturday night before sunset. We both got a mega marg and then shared chips & salsa. The margs were watered down. Again, the chip to salsa ratio is way off. There were way more chips than salsa. There needs to be more bathrooms. Only one stall for women and one for men. I waited about 20 minutes to use the bathroom. Service could be better.

Big fan of the Baja Beach Cafe, and big fan of our server KP!! She is literally the best. We enjoyed sitting on the patio for a few hours grabbing drinks with friends. Grab a mega marg! There was some live music down the way, and it was a beautiful summer day, steps from the beach. KP kept the drinks flowing and this crowd happy. Would definitely recommend!

We've been coming here for years, and it's always a great spot with reasonable prices. I'm surprised to see some of the negative reviews about the waitstaff. We've had Dupree as our server several times, and he's always been great!

Good casual beach side dining! $23 Mango Mega Marg. Burger exceeded my expectations with a well seasoned patty. Salads were well portioned and yummy as well! Our server was running around busy, but respect the hustle for an affordable sunset view dine and just enjoy!

Solid place! Got a breakfast burrito, think it was $15? Not terribly priced because it was absolutely ginormous. The food came out super quickly, service was great. The burrito could've used a sauce or something but the ingredients seemed really fresh and the tortilla rocked. Did I mention it's right on the beach? Great vibes, someone was drinking a mega margarita, looked great! I'll be back

They have huge margaritas for $21-22, and you can even get them to go! If you take one with you, you're supposed to keep it "sealed" with the sticker they place over the straw hole. But of course, you "don't have to" , you can always take a sip and "reseal" it ;)

We went to Baja beach cafe for drinks and had a good time. The mega margaritas are very big and very strong. The service was good and we got seated inside near the windows which was nice on a hot day. I got the spicy margarita and it was not too spicy.

Service was terrible, the drinks for happy hour deal was misleading, parking is rough, only one bathroom, all the tables were wobbly or broken. Will not be returning.

This place is an absolute SCAM happy hour doesn't apply to all drinks as advertised. The bartender asked my friend if she wanted the "big one" and she replied sure which she had no idea meant a MEGA marg which was NOT included in happy hour and resulted in an $80 bill. There was an automatic service fee added to the bill as well as a "flavor up" fee for the margs. They were disgusting. The nachos we ordered were half burnt tortillas. Our tacos sucked too, but not as bad as the margs and nachos. This place SUCKS. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY.

Baja Beach Cafe is an absolute gem in San Diego! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was welcoming, fun, and full of energy. The staff was incredibly friendly, attentive, and made us feel like valued guests throughout our visit. The food was outstanding--fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. Every dish we ordered was packed with authentic taste, and the portions were generous. The drinks were equally impressive and paired perfectly with the meal. What really stood out was the combination of great food, excellent service, and the relaxed beachside vibe that makes Baja Beach Cafe such a memorable experience. Whether you're a local or just visiting San Diego, this is a place you don't want to miss. We left already looking forward to our next visit. Highly recommend Baja Beach Cafe to anyone looking for delicious food, great drinks, and a fantastic atmosphere! 5/5 - A true San Diego favorite!

    Boardwalk Breakfast

Ended up at this place after an event that was going on in the morning- we were hungry and this was the first place that we saw- rather we smelled breakfast and couldn't walk away.  Despite there being a lot of people, and with no reservations, we were sat pretty quick.  We are sure they are used to the rush of people as it is on the boardwalk.  We sat outside to enjoy the ocean view and the weather. The waitress got us our coffees and had our order taken right away. I didn't get anything too fancy- just Boardwalk Breakfast which consisted of two eggs, hickory smoked bacon and a side white toast.  I also go a side of the chicken apple sausage- the bacon was the better choice! The food was good and hit the spot- wasn't looking for anything too heavy so this was exactly what it said it was and it was perfect! We would definitely come back. The vibes of this places what you would expect from a local beach spot.  The service was fast and friendly. The weather was great. What else can you ask for?

    Watermelon Margarita
    Maryellen S.

My friend and I went here and had a good time. We got the extra large watermelon margaritas which were better than I expected...didn't taste like they were from a Slurpee machine at 7-11. Tacos were okay...food is average but you can't beat the right on the beach location. My friend asked the server if he could get tacos ala-carte and she said she didn't know what that meant because it was her first week there...which we both found very amusing.

Friendly staff, great location for a sunset pic, huge margaritas and the food was tasty. The server recommended a few items to order and they were fantastic. Wish I remembered his name but if your reading this..thank you The only bad thing I would say is that they hold your credit card while sitting on the patio. These days with all the credit card problems we didn't like giving them the card to hold. I guess they have their reasons. So we went along with it. We definitely recommend this restaurant.

They even showed us where the SDCC menu corresponded to the normal menu. We ended up splitting the Big Boss burger, French fries, Mac and cheese, tots, Caesar salad, ribs with sauce on the side. It was recommended to mix the ribs with the Mac and cheese, and I have never been happier with a recommendation in my life. This is precisely why I like to ask for the servers favorites!

I loved the stained glass lights at the booths we sat at, they were super cute! We played foosball for a dollar which was fun while it lasted but it didn't give us enough balls to play an entire game. It's been pretty hot in sd and this place has a lot of large open windows that were all open, I usually love that feature but it was an abnormally humid night so we were all pretty hot and sweaty inside. Food was good with affordable prices too, we came here quite late at night, so we were limited to only their late-night menu, but everything was quite tasty, typical bar food. Our standout favorite was the maple sriracha wings for $10.61, their flavor is exactly like described and was a good balance of sweet and spicy! The Butter Burger $10.57 was good too but I think too rich and heavy for me. The prices were great tho! Parking is pretty terrible as is typical for downtown, but we walked from Punch Bowl Social and had Ubered to there at the beginning of the night. ---- Overall: a cool place to hangout, drink, and grab a bite late at night, I'm sad about not being able to play a whole game of foosball, but a generally great time

You have to be within 7 days of your requested reservation date so as soon as I was closer I set up a reservation through Open Table. I actually ended up calling the Tavern and Bowl to see if they had any earlier reservations and they told me if the person who requested an earlier time didn't pay the deposit I'd get the time slot. I am so lucky because these people didn't pay their deposit and we got the time and the lane. Cute thing, you can actually have kids come too, my niece who is 5 got to come along and they had a little device for her so she can push the ball, she ended up beating me. Everyone was so kind and service was so smooth and efficient, we got to bring donuts for our party and my husband and I ordered the carnitas nachos, they were delicious. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted by an uplifting open-air environment, truly a breath of fresh air that felt like stepping onto the observation deck of the USS Enterprise. The amazing views of the bay were nothing short of spectacular, bringing a serene beauty that rivals the finest star systems. Over the years, my wife, her girlfriend, and I have become frequent travelers to this culinary haven, beaming back for nearly 15 years--a testament to its enduring allure. The selection of IPAs and mixed drinks is impressive, catering to even the most discerning palates in the galaxy. The choices are vast enough to satisfy anyone embarking on this flavor exploration, whether you prefer a refreshing drink to toast a successful mission or something bolder, like a phaser on stun! The menu features a delightful array of options, including fresh salads, tantalizing finger foods, and, of course, their famed burgers.
