Came to this venue for a birthday party and was surprised about the speakeasy vibes it had. Our host walked us through the back of a restaurant and behind a retro vending machine was access to a bar, dance floor and karaoke rooms. The theme was costume karaoke, so we showed up dressed up. It appears as if it was 80's night because the whole night was 80s music and vibes. Not sure if this is the vibe every night but it was cool. The room was spacious and had enough space for all the girlies however the air conditioning was definitely lacking in the venue as a lot of were sweating while sitting still. While we were told the karaoke list has a wide variety of songs, they did it was just disappointing because if they didn't have our song there was no alternative way to add the song. Often times the WiFi would cut off and freeze our song in queue, we would request for help, and had to wait a while for techno assistance. This cut into our karaoke time and no additional time was offered to accommodate. There is on one restroom per gender and 2 stalls in the women bathroom so the wait was at least 30 mins before getting your turn, while I appreciate staff regulating the lines for the restroom, that was a crazy wait! (While sweating because of the shotty AC) Once our time was up,(2am) a bouncer or staff, busted into the room flashing bright lights and yelling saying it was closed and time to go home. Once we exited the room, we were rushed and told if we stayed behind we would be charged more money when all we were doing was checking if we left anything behind.. (it was 15 of us) we could only move so fast! The staff didn't even allow us to use the restroom before leaving. I understand closing protocols, but this wasn't the experience I expected towards first time guests let alone any guests. It would have been nice to get a 30, 15 min warning because it's so easy to be caught up in the moment of having fun, you aren't keeping track of time. There was no courtesy like that offered to us. All in all the experience wasn't completely bad, we made the most of it, celebrated with our friend and had a blast with eachother..the drinks were good and that kept coming.. We racked up a tab ($1000) and ordered a lot of drinks and celebrated, it would have been appreciated to receive the same customer service and support as paying customers, not sure if I would return because this location is far from me, but I'm willing to scope it out again if the opportunity presents itself in effort to have a more balanced opinion. read more

They are back !!! Had a total blast here , had not been since the pandemic. The vibes are fantastic - the dancers are amazing and the DJ plays exactly the right songs with the perfect mix of all 80's music. This place is dope! Went for a concert on a Friday night and stayed later than planned because the DJ was playing some serious throwback/current mix. Love this place. Went to an afterparty here, great place for karaoke, dancing, networking, or just hanging out. It can get a bit loud when the space gets pretty full so bring earplugs just in case. The service at the bar is good, wish they had mint leaves handy (great for drink garnish, but I like how the bartender got creative). They have cool arcade games and a small stage next to the bar with small tables. This might even make a good speakeasy with the right elements! Cool space excellent location. read more

This review is my best review; not in a good way. I wish I can give you -0 stars. Last night, my spouse was assaulted by two women inside of this establishment on the dance floor. The women had been antagonizing my spouse for not allowing them to sit with our party. Once reported they were escorted out. Only to come back inside from another side. Someone let them back inside. These two women walked straight onto the dance floor and attacked my spouse. I got in the middle and separated them as best as I could. No one came to the rescue. Not one security in sight. A complete stranger, a young woman grabbed one of these women and held her back. It's a shame because we loved this place. Not enough security and when needed the little security they have; we're nowhere to be found. We had a table reservation with bottle service and were celebrating a birthday and anniversary. It never occurred to me before but this establishment has no emergency exits, no windows, it's not a safe place. Break Room 86, If you don't keep your patrons safe it's simply because you don't care enough and it clearly showed last night. My spouse could have gotten stabbed or shot in your establishment and everyone whom works here would have found out till after. It's pathetic. It's sad. It's alarming. I don't recommend this place at all. It's changed a lot. The crowd is not what it used to be. It seems as if anyone is let in just as long as cocktails sell. A very unfortunate situation and one that I hope nobody has to ever encounter. We were out on a date to celebrate our love and birthday. To escape from the harsh reality of what is happening in the world and all around us. We couldn't escape because there is a lot of ugly and nasty people out there. A speakeasy bar/nightclub in Koreatown stationed nearby a dumpster and a dark alley, guarded by a security guard.. this spot is always so fun to go through with friends who haven't been here before!! If you are in a large group, just know that you usually have to enter 10 at a time. Music playing has been centered around classics like the 80s and 90s except for select-themed music nights. This club is unique in that aspect and as someone who grew up with parents loving this music, I had a blast singing along to some old-time favorites! I don't know how often this occurs, but we were lucky to witness surprise performances from some provocative women who would really spin the mood around. I didn't witness the performances the recent time I went so it most definitely occurs on select nights. There's an alcoholic ice cream truck located at the entrance of the back patio and I was pretty impressed by the variety of ice cream flavors. For spacing, it does get crowded once you head towards the front of the bar as it's maybe a two-person width to get through when there's traffic on both sides. - unique photo ops (like a vintage phone booth) - bathroom for the ladies is tough as there's only 2 stalls at a time! - water is free and given with ice - private rooms are hidden and seems very worth it! read more

I was out for the night and some friends invited me to meet them at break room 86 I got out of my uber in front of the place one of my friends said you've been out drinking to me as a joke out loud & the security guy in front came up to my group and kicked us out said since he saw us drinking we can't come in and are not welcomed we didn't have any drinks in hands. Last Saturday night I went to break room 86, it wasn't very busy when I got there after midnight. I had one drink that was $16 plus tax that amounted to 17.56 and I wrote in a $2 tip so total should've been 19.56. There was no line at the bar and the drink was nothing fancy, it was a short interaction with the woman bartender. Today I got an alert on my card that says I left a 56% tip. I have my card with me so I did not leave it there or forget to close out and it's a paper check where customers write in the tip NOT select a percentage on a screen so why did the bartenders add a 56% tip to my check?? We went here on a Tuesday night. This place was Fun! The entrance is unexpectedly cool, adding to the experience, if this is your first time there they will guide you. They informed us that no videos or pictures were allowed until we were inside the establishment. No coverage charge which I always love. The drinks were spot-on, and the 80's theme was carried out perfectly--from the walls to the amazing artwork. They even had classic 80's video games like Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, and Galaga. People don't start arriving until around 10 PM, but if you get there earlier, you can sign up first for karaoke. I was just a spectator this time, enjoying some people-watching--I didn't have quite enough liquid courage to get on stage. Leave your problems at home and dance it out to some of the 80's most classic dance tunes. Dark, moody, 80's memorabilia all over, the vibe is supper club meets crazy 80's. Drinks were less than most other clubs and there's no cover. I saw all kinds of people, all ages (though we were the oldies) but we loved seeing the next gen working on their 80's moves. I got old-school blasted at a moms' night out at The Venue and ended up at Break Room 86, a bar for young people named for the ancient year of my birth. To be perfectly honest, this outing was a bit of a blur. I went with two other moms from my kid's school who I had just met that night, and it felt like the kind of spontaneous drunken excursion I occasionally enjoyed in my 20s. Part of this was that Break Room 86 is a Houston brothers joint, and I used to love a Houston brothers bar back when I went to bars. This one was in the Line Hotel, and there was a bit of a wait outside, which was tolerable because it wasn't too long and I was, as I said, pretty tanked. There's basically no other way I'd wait in an alley at midnight to get into a bar, no matter how nice or trendy. My friends and I have living rooms now. The entrance was cute, a definite Houston brothers production, through a hidden passage behind what looked like a vending machine in the alley. The bar itself was colorful and attractive, decorated with a retro 80s theme that felt cool instead of cheesy. There were stacks of stereos and boxy televisions, lockers and record covers lining the walls. The place was loud and crowded, pulsing with Friday night energy. I got one unnecessary drink while I was there, courtesy of one of my new party mom friends. I think it was the Moonwalker, with Lot 40 rye whiskey, Lillet Blanc, orgeat, ginger, blackberry, and fresh lemon. It definitely had a fat dose of orgeat, a taste I recognized from my days hanging out at Harvard & Stone, which had a similar drink on the menu. Whatever it was, it was certainly good. The drink was, of course, a terrible idea. I spent all of the next day paying for my hours on the loose in Koreatown. No regrets, though, for this brief, chaotic visit to Break Room 86. This was a fun bar to go to for the 80's night experience but the DJ was very sporadic and I felt like didn't pick up on the vibes of the room very well. Drinks of course over priced but it's LA so that's pretty spot on. WAY too many people for the size of the place, I know they like to pack them in but at one point it felt like you couldn't even dance because there were too many people. They explain how things work a bit before escorting you inside usually in gathered clusters and groups to avoid so much back and forth as it's not a straight stroll in... Part of the experience for sure! Epic bar and fair prices with an open-air patio area for smoking or lounging, though most of the fun is through the halls that lead to the secret passage inside... Need snacks before going in? I suggest sour patch kids personally but they have quite a bit in the vending machines... wink wink. It's very dressy casual to semi-casual attire with no super strict dress code though I'd avoid flip flops, sandals, and super casual clothing. You can buy some snackables inside such as ice cream, but if in need of a meal there are some solid places including food trucks or vendors around before and after "breaking" into Break Room 86... The music will definitely have you breaking into dance as well as song. They do "discourage" taking photos and videos inside as some noteworthy people do party here as well and/or stay inside and behind or even at the Line LA Hotel where this tavern of sorts resides off Ardmore Ave and Wilshire Blvd just before it's corner opposite Wilshire/Normandie Ave across from the Purple Line Metro Station. Grateful my roommate and company invited me out. made lots of new friends, drank well and dance it up. One of your security, let us in the room where Beauty School Dropout was at. All I did was introduced myself to Bardo and Colie. After that, we planned on sitting on the open couch and enjoying our time with our drinks where we spent money at your place of business. There wasn't any drama. But some other security guard chased us into the room after another security guard was the one who let us in and showed us what room to go to. I feel totally offended. We have bruises all over our arms and I don't know if I should get my lawyer involved for assault. Please contact me because if not, I will call my lawyer. However, about 1 hour in, we were approached and asked to leave from the table with no reasoning other than they needed it. All the negative reviews are spot on for this place. We were staying at the hotel so decided to check it out. Went around 930 and it was fairly empty. Decor was very cool and it fun getting to the bar. After that, we had the worst possible service - bartenders and staff made us feel uncomfortable. Like we were intruding on their evening. Drinks were also bad and overpriced - way too much sugar in everything. Would not recommend at all, so many other options around Koreatown. read more

Music was fun, bartenders were very fast and also took some care in how much we were drinking and always offered a water with the drinks, this place has a good amount of seating and the day I came I didn't have a problem with finding a seat. I will say the karaoke rooms are such a nice touch but need to be somewhat controlled. Our group was in there when another group came in and wanted to sing which is great. Went there a few months ago. There were a total of 10 of us (5 couples). Went out to have a good time, hear good music and have a few drinks. We arrived early and were able to get the area that looked like a VIP area because it had seats all around a table but was not. Anyway we were all having a good time when all of a sudden a very awkward acting security person crossed through our area to speak to someone in the area behind us about possibly throwing them out and when he was done fluffing his feathers he turned to my husband and for no reason said "and you'll be next!". We had nothing to do with them. Had no idea they were even acting up. This security was super weird, acted alone and ruined our night because of course he and my husband had words after his behavior. I didn't want to go get his supervisor and make a big deal out of it. I just thought we aren't the kids in the room buying a beer. We were in a section buying cocktails all night, having a nice time as a group and if this establishment wants to hire weirdo's to harass their customers they can keep their bar. Came here on a Saturday night around 1:15 am. There was no line, and we were escorted in promptly. Pretty cool to walk through the random hallways (I still have no idea what we walked through though) and come up to a wall that appeared to look like vending machines (one is a door into the club)! We ordered the Fantasy Island and Purple Rain, which is where our fun ended. I don't think there was a single drop of alcohol in my drink! The Fantasy Island tasted more clearly of tequila, but my other friend also commented that her drink didn't taste like it had anything in it. We ended up leaving after 30 minutes because we weren't particularly enjoying the music and vibes on the dance floor and felt too sober to stay! read more

And to keep that smell exclusive to the club, ventilation was never installed. Speaking of ventilation, you know how getting into a parked car with the windows up during a late July afternoon just makes you want to boogie? Lucky you. At Break Room 86, the air is thick enough to melt that water bottle you left in the cup holder. Whether you're ordering a soda or water, the taps only serve sewer slop to give you that authentic underground grubby club taste. The burning well drinks are marked up so high to make sure all the gangs involved are paid off for their "protection." If you *have* to follow some friends here, keep your drink orders exclusive to the ice cream truck outside on the patio. You can see what you're being served and the mixers are not from a sludge gun. If you're overcharged for drinks, as many customers are, it will take nearly a month for customer service to return your phone calls and e-mails. Get a receipt. Or fight the bartender. LOVE this bar, beware of phone thieves!!! I'll start with the positives - this is one of my favorite bars to come with a group and dance. The music is always great, the decor is super cute and retro. Last weekend I did have my phone stolen out of my purse at this bar. This isn't the fault of the bar or any of its staff!! I'm writing this review to advise anyone to always be vigilant and keep your valuables in a hard-to-access spot like a zipped compartment. Not only was the service subpar when I asked for whiskey, the bartender was clueless of some basic common ones that most bars have, but they also added an unauthorized tip to my bill, leaving me feeling overcharged and frustrated. Definitely won't be returning. They purposely didn't give me a "customer copy" so I took a snapshot of the receipt. All they did was poured me tequila. No extra service of making me a cocktail of anything. Very cool concept! We came on a Saturday at the suggestion of one of the servers at Openaire. We got there right when it opened at 9p because we just wanted to see it. It is definitely 80s themed, as in early MTV years, so the music selection was not necessarily our tasted but worked I guess. We noticed 2 or 3 private karaokee rooms which looked like fun. All the doors are hidden, which gives it a nice feel. They also have free arcade games and boozy frozen items adter 10:30p. (Pacma, centipede, and a few others) This is a nice spot for the 20s age group and cute to check out. read more
