When I was here in 2019, I would have absolutely given this place 5 stars. I enjoyed a delightful brunch and had been looking forward to coming back. I found myself in Mars today and wanted to try it out again. I got the crab cake sandwich and the strawberry lemonade happy hour cocktail. The cocktail had something off about it. It was fine, but I don't know if I just didn't prefer that type of whisky, it was too sweet, or a bit of both. Also, the bartender didn't offer any water and I was so thirsty . The crab cake sandwich and fries were pretty good, just a bit meager on the fries portion. I appreciated how they grilled and buttered the bun for the sandwich. It was a decent enough portion overall for $16. Next time I'd like to order a couple food items off the happy hour menu since it seems like you can get a great deal, a lot of bang for your buck. They were busy at 5:30 on a Thursday, so that is a good sign! read more

First time I have walked out of a restaurant, never thought it would be here. We have previously dined here during COVID and had a wonderful experience (both food and service). This Sunday's brunch service was terribly underwhelming. We were frustrated after waiting for service, but tried ordering our brunch & drinks together to make up some time. We watched a similar size group get sat after us, eat and pay before we even had our food. We sat with (mostly empty) coffee for 40 min before the mgr dropped off our food, cold and incorrect. He knew we were unhappy but didn't ask until I just asked for check so we could leave. He did apologize and comp the meal after a short conversation, which wasn't necessary, but appreciated. I try to more more than patient during this time, but this was just bad on every level. I have never been so frustrated to just leave an establishment, until yesterday. Hope this was a one-off bad experience, but we won't be back to find out. read more

Shrimp and grits are pretty tasty, however, service at the bar is slllllooooww. No one asked how my meal was until after I was done and the bartender didn't ask if she could get me anything else or even if I wanted another beer. Same happened to a couple of guys sitting near me. Eventually I did ask for a 2nd round. Atmosphere is pretty good and reminds me a lot of The Yard in Market Square. Overall, not bad for a first visit. read more

Not a good day here. We've been here a few times and it was good. This time the only things they got right were the sandwiches and dessert. The burger and meatloaf sandwich was fine. Not great just ok. Scallop diners were small scallops. Not what is on the menu or what we have got before. When asked they said they could not get the right size. That is one of those things you make sure your servers tell customers when they order it. The scallops were way overcooked. Filet mignon was rare when order medium. Cooked heavier on one side and slightly seared on the other. It was mostly rare. They brought it back and it was over seared on the outside and just med-rare. Love when places you eat at re-cook the same thing someone just used their fork and knife on. Jambalaya risotto. Undercooked. The risotto was still hard and starchy. Calamari was so overcooked it was dark brown, burned, and tasted like the oil had not been changed. They replaced that and it was perfect. One mistake I get but this was a keystone cop calamity this evening. These were fundamental service things. We won't be back. read more

Good food all around and love the patio! The blue crab pasta is a must get every time we are there. My kids love the food they got from the kids menu, and it's got some pretty healthy options like salmon, which the kids loved. Haven't had any bad food there after going 5-6 times. read more

First visit to Breakneck Tavern for Sunday brunch and was overall very impressed! No wait for a table, as well as quick service. Great atmosphere and a solid menu- loved the extensive drink selection. Only complaints are that I asked for over hard eggs and got over well, but not a big deal! We sat right down however it took about 25 minutes for server to get drink order- another 20 to get drinks.. we ordered right away.. got food finally at 9:20pm!!?? Really? With No apologies... I stopped in for.lunch while working in the area. It is big but looks like a locally run one off kind of bar/restaurant. I had.the crabcake sandwich. The fried green tomato on it was a nice touch. This place came highly recommended by our new neighbor, suggesting this should be the first place we try for a good meal around Cranberry. He was right, Breakneck Tavern is awesome. All four in our party were stoked with our meals. The couple we brought are really into beer and have recently retired and spending that time trying as many breweries as possible. So they were excited to sample the variety of beers on tap here. Unfortunately, the one negative of our visit involved one of the beers they were excited to try. They knew right off the beer they received wasn't what they asked for. The server admitted he was skeptical about it even before bringing it to the table, but didn't mention that until our friend asked about it. And he insisted the bar tender assured him it was right, and the lines weren't mixed up from tap to keg. But I don't think they truly looked into it or took it seriously. It was definitely not the beer he ordered but they kind of just shrugged it off. Overall, still a very pleasant experience and we'll be back. I couldn't care less about the beer anyways. read more

Coming back this Friday to eat again! Awesome food and awesome service. They even serve high quality wines like Caymus and Quilt. My Moscow Mule even had the mint muddled!!!!!! Unheard of! I went here a couple of times and sat at the bar. Had a huge fish sandwich. Food is not bad. The servers are fairly busy here. Bartenders not talkative at least to me, which is something I like if I'm sitting on my own at the bar. They have a modest happy hour selection of food but you can eat a meal off it. Went for Sunday brunch with the wife. It was very busy but the hostess and manager handled seating with speed. Once sat our waitress got right over to us. She was really busy but kept up on refills and was very attentive. The manager even did table checks which is awesome. My wife got the French toast with bacon and I opted for the crab cake eggs Benedict. Only thing we didn't like was the grilled ciabatta bread for the Benny because it was like a rock. Maybe switch it out for a regular English muffin if you order it but overall was a nice time with a great staff and lovely atmosphere. read more

Ok so that was disappointing! I've dined here before a couple of times for dinner with my wife who has also been here for lunch about 3x. She said the sandwiches here have always been good. Since it's been awhile I don't recall what we've eaten for dinner on past visits but I remember We had favorable enough meals that We were looking forward to returning. Well I'm not sure what changed, whether a new chef or just an off night, but it was nowhere near as good as I remember. I'll start with the beer selection. The vast majority of the beers were IPAs or pale ales, neither of which am I a fan. But I get that many people like them, and I'm sure they would be pleased with the selection. My preference runs more to lagers and ales, but for a better selection of those I had to turn to bottles or cans. Even there I would have hoped for more variety. Not being super hungry We skipped the appetizers and went straight for the main course. My wife ordered the crab cakes with pork belly and sweet potato hash. Except it was regular potatoes not sweet. Having had the crab cakes here before she felt that they had been dialed back with less crab and more filler. I went with the New Zealand lamb rack with pistachio truffle mashed purple potatoes and charred Brussels sprouts which sounded intriguing. Well I ordered the lamb medium and it was a step or 2 beyond that. Still, good flavor but just slightly chewier. The mashed potatoes were an incredibly disappointing blob of what looked like what might be passed off for St Patty's day green food colored mashed mush. Not even a hint of truffle oil either. It was really tasteless, especially considering that it could have been awesome if it had more body with pieces of pistachios mixed in an a nice truffle oil touch, which is what I imagined. Unfortunately the chef doesn't have a very good imagination. Lest I forget, the "charred" Brussel sprouts were literally incinerated and inedible. And don't get me started on the up charge for sautéed mushrooms. Ok the up charge was just $2 but I had to search to find them. I think there were about 4 slices $.50 ea?! Haha. Anyway, I'm probably scratching this place off my dinner destinations, but if pressed might try it for lunch. read more

Wow I haven't had food this good in a long time!! I was very impressed with Breakneck Tavern ever since I walked in the front door. We were seated right away without a reservation (but you will want one for the weekend). Our waitress came right up to us and took our drink orders. We ordered our food pretty quickly and it came out even quicker. I have never seen such fast service in my life. We got the Brussels sprouts for an appetizer. There were four of us sharing it and there was plenty for everyone. The bowl is huge!! It can out within 10 minutes of us ordering. Then another 10 minutes later, our main meals arrived. Such fast service!! And I can't forget to mention how tasty it all was. I got the Good Ole Burger and it really hit the spot. It was huge so I had to take half home. So juicy and tender and every bite was better than the next. Everyone at the table loved their food. The Cajun Blue Crab pasta seems to be a big hit here and my mom loved it. The ribs are also some of the best we had. They had so much meat and flavor that we had to ask what they used on it because we wanted to take notes. You also can't go wrong with the Brisket Mac and cheese. They load it up with tons of brisket so you get the perfect amount of everything. 10/10 and I will try to go back if I'm ever in the area again. read more

We came in here after a XC meet one afternoon, place is a little higher class then I anticipated for a tavern. I got a burger it was tasty, wife got a beer salad she loved it with a side of roasted brussel sprouts which where extra roasted some very burnt. Kids split a pizza and mac and cheese. And a couple craft beers off a good sized menu. Place is a good eat a little pricey for lunch with the kids but a once in the while dinner might be ok. Quick review: Stopped for dinner on a Tuesday without a reservation. The hostess told me she would make one for me. Mind you I arrived at 7pm and she made the reservation for 7:10pm. She made us wait in the bar for 10 minutes for absolutely no reason. Crazy! Food: Mixed beet salad was very good. Wild mushroom risotto was awful. It was undercooked and they added onion which overwhelmed the taste. Mahi was undercooked and mushy. I sent the meal back and went home hungry. They offered to make me something else but I declined. We have been waiting for Breakneck Tavern to finish their remodel and open in the former Good Ole Uncle Bob's. The place looks really good, bar is nicely opened up, screened in outdoor seating on one side and the dining room looks nice with comfy plush booths. The bar stools are cute but quite uncomfortable. Tough to sit in them at the bar for very long. I expect growing pains on any new restaurant and this one clearly has a way to go. The bar menu at this point in time is a miss. The sandwich menu had few choices: salmon blt , mahi Cuban, catfish poboy, crab cake, portobello & grilled cheese. The word 'Tavern' is in the name - this isn't tavern food. My husband asked if they offered a burger and was told it's only offered at lunch. No meat offering at all is a clear miss. We both ordered the Mahi Cuban & both regretted it immediately. Too tall to bite through & after one bite both our plates were swimming in sauce that spilled out. You couldn't get a bite of all the ingredients together because they slid apart so badly and nothing had much flavor on its own. I also ordered a side of Brussel Sprouts for a small upcharge of $2. Some arrived undercooked & a couple were actually cold and all were lacking flavor. The draft list is pretty good with many choices however, the ones included on their happy hour menu are few. Dinner menu has items in the high $20's to mid $30's range. Not sure if Mars is quite the upscale destination to support this. Time will tell. Growing pains here for sure. I look forward to seeing how much they work on this restaurant over the next few months. It has potential. read more

My friend and I heard about this restaurant from a co-worker. We were initially going to go downtown but then the storm arrived so we decided to stay close to the hotel and try this restaurant instead. Since this is a newer restaurant, the interior was nice and fresh. They have about 40 different beers on trap as well as crafted cocktails. I ordered the Short Line Club - it raspberry, egg white and bourbon or something. I forget... all I remember is, I'm not ordering it again. The alcohol taste was super strong and the egg white had this smell that was pretty off putting. I ordered the crab cake sammich w/ brussels sprouts (instead of fries). The crab cake sat on a fried green tomato and topped with arugula between two slices of bread. The Sammich was actually pretty good. The brussels sprouts weren't -- bitter, bland and wasn't properly roasted -- they looked like they were charred then steamed. We actually ordered fried rock shrimp since we're two fat kids at heart and couldn't wait to get our main courses. *sigh* The rock shrimps were tasty. They had two dips with it; balsamic and a green avocado --- they could have left the green one off. Anyway... not bad over all. I may have just ordered the wrong items. This place is a home run. My wife and I had dinner here tonight and it is a welcomed new restaurant to our favorites list. Plenty of great beers on tap. An excellent menu ranging from burgers to steak and ahi tuna (which is what we ordered). Generous portions and very high quality meats and veggies. Pricing was fair for the quality... I don't mind paying a bit more for a great meal, as we had. The atmosphere is semi trendy but not too much to scare away the locals. A nice sized bar area with TVs and smaller tables, and a separate dining only area. We sat at a small table in the bar area and had great service. We will be back, for sure. read more

One of our favorite go to places is Breakneck Tavern in Mars. We go a couple times a month for a date night type thing. Not only is their food awesome but their drinks, beer, and whisky selection is always great. BUT, we have been very disappointed the last few times. We feel like their food has fallen along with the service, mostly the bar staff. The last few times we have went we have had to send food back. We used to love the calamari app, it seemed like the only place we found that cooked it properly. But it's been not just a little over cooked.... VERY OVERCOOKED. I Ordered the Bison burger medium rare and it came out so well done and dry it was inedible. My husband got mahi mahi and again SOOOO OVERCOOKED. These are both dishes we have ate in the past and they were great. I wish I could just chaulk it up as a bad night, but it's been the last few times. The bar staff also seems miserable. Particularly one female, she doesn't seem like to like her job very much. We really hope they work out whatever they have going on. We really enjoy our evenings there and supporting local businesses. read more
