My bf and I chose to have our Tuesday lunch outside on the patio at the Sea Shell Bar. The weather was perfect that afternoon and several groups of people were enjoying the outdoor tables too. Our server was very friendly, but we could tell she was a little frazzled from the large crowd she had on hand. We were able to place our order and get our food within our work lunch timeframe, though. I ordered a turkey club to go along with two apps that we shared: breaded mushrooms and jalapeño poppers. Both were good, but I thought the jalapeño poppers were just a little better than the mushrooms. They were thick, stuffed, and spicy. My turkey club came with a pickle spear and a side of ridgey chips. The club was good, but definitely could've used some kind of sauce. They brought me out a little container of mayo, but i'm not a mayo fan. So, the sandwich was a little dry for me. They really loaded it up with turkey! I ended up taking half home for lunch the following day. Also, on Tuesday's they have a free cookie for each patron! They were chocolate chip and they were definitely fresh and chewy. Tried the fish sandwich to go last Friday. Very disappointed! I see pictures of giant fish sandwiches at fish fries all around for $14-$16 and saw people giving good recommendations on the Seashell. I figured wife and I could share a fish sandwich from there. VERY small piece of fish. I am not a big eater but could probably have eaten 2 of them myself! You get a spoonful of coleslaw and a small cup of Mac n cheese for $18+. Wouldn't go there again. Fish was just ok. Nothing special. read more

Decent local watering hole. Nice to have some outside seating available in the nice weather, even if it is in a parking lot. The food is definitely adequate, but spotty. The thing that bothers me is that there are so many little things that they could do to make things a lot better but they don't. Decent bread on their sandwiches for one. The food was good. Disappointed that with the name Sea Shell there was very little seafood, but the food was decent. Someone got the fries and those were crispy, too! Surprisingly, their chips were Ruffles or similar. I don't like soggy fries, so I typically choose chips. Here, I'd recommend the fries instead. Service was not good at all. I realize from reviews that this is a place where locals go, but even a guy like me as an out of towner was welcomed immediately when I stopped by on a Monday night. A group of four of us met up at Seashell, and enjoyed appetizers and drinks for a few hours. All of the appetizers from the homemade chips, nachos, salads and wings were all excellent, and the patio out back was a comfortable place to catch up and hang out. Service from Deb was excellent, and pricing was reasonable with the four of us all chipping in about $30 a piece and we had a lot of food which made it a great value. I'll certainly be back the next time I'm traveling through that area. read more

Local bar that we stopped in for lunch to try for Fish Friday! We ordered mostly off their lent menu except for the fried mushrooms which were great & they have good ranch! We also ordered the large fish sandwich (which is so much food) & the crab po-boy, both with Haluski. The sandwiches were pretty good, but the Haluski lacked flavor for us but still good being that I'm sure they are serving a ton on Fridays. Service has been slow every time I have been there. Tonight was especially slow. Waited over an hour and still no food. Asked for our check before our food came and we were called bitches as we walked out the door. I waited tables for years. I am super understanding of service workers and always treat them well. From now on, only five stars for places I like, and two for places I don't. I have been grabbing lunch here for about a year now, and the service is always friendly, the food is always good, and it has a cast of characters at the bar who all know each other and are friendly and happy and don't talk politics or religion. Oh, and the food is really good. Usual array of sandwiches and hoagies. And a daily special. Also good chili and Friday's are standard fish day, in this area, you can count on places that do the fish on Friday thing. I recommend the French dip hoagie. Get extra mushrooms. I tossed in a picture of the Weds. special, which was roast beef on white bread with fries covered in gravy. Sorry, no mashed potatoes, which would be great! But the fries are hot. Walked in once after a long day for a drink. I've driven past a lot since we moved to the area and finally decided to check it out. You felt like you were in an episode of cheers. Everyone was friendly and it seemed like the entire bar knew each other. Bartenders were very friendly and let me sample a couple beers before purchase. Nice little bar and grill with an outdoor patio. Came here with two co-workers this week and were promptly seated out on the patio. Weather was nice but the table next to us was so loud we couldn't hardly talk. Almost asked to move inside but they got their check and left shortly after. Lots of sandwiches on the menu and so among the three of us we got the Philly cheesesteak, Pittsburgh wrap and Italian hoagie. All sandwiches were fresh as were the fries that came on the side. The waitress was rude telling us she can't control the kitchen and that food comes out in the order it is placed, but yet there were tables that ordered after us that got their food and we never got ours. Stranded for a day in Pittsburgh, grabbed a hotel near the airport and headed out to a local establishment with low expectations, looking for a solid meal and a drink. I was amazed by this find. When you walk in you think you're getting an average pub experience but you'll be pleasantly surprised! Friendly place with lots of regulars, food better than expected! Went with a friend for a beer and a sandwich. We were seated quickly and offered menus right away. She had the French Dip and coffee and I got a lager on tap. I don't drink often, but it was icy cold and good. The food, on the other hand was disappointing. She ate half her sandwich and clearly wished she had something else. Mostly she ate fried onion rings. I ordered a tuna melt, which I don't see around here very much. The tuna salad they used could have been soup: it was watery and tasteless. I went there to eat lunch with someone. One thing to caution you is that you need to be careful when turning in to the restaurant because opposing traffic is obstructed and people go flying down the road. My guest wanted to sit outside and there were tables avaliable. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich which was good and my guest had the "Rachel", which is a Reuben with turkey. We both enjoyed our meals. The service was ok. We really enjoyed this restaurant for a nice quick lunch. Reason for only 4 stars= We were sitting outside and we were we could smell the cigarette smoke of other patrons. Although the smoke wasn't very strong, it was not very pleasant. read more

Came here July 2021 with a group of 6 adults. Since COVID, the last time we were here was 2019. This is a local bar not "a hole in the wall" as one previous reviewer stated, really! Always clean and good service. We all had either fried fish or fried shrimp as that is what they are known. Food came out of the kitchen hot and crispy and fast! As far as the bar only having 15 seats, come on the place is small. That does not diminish the service or quality. We go to NYC several times a year and patronize all the neighborhood restaurants which are small. Even here in Pittsburgh we prefer to avoid chain restaurants. Trust me I waitressed thru school until I graduated college and people who complain about the minuscule things are better to stay at home. read more

We went on Saturday night about 6:30. We were sat immediately and the server was right there to get our drinks. They were short handed and out of a few menu items, but what we did order was delicious! There Chicken Philly was beautifully seasoned, had a very nice chicken to vegetables ratio, and a great bun. This review is going to be short since I have only visited the Sea Shell Bar twice for Karaoke on a Saturday night. I believe they have karaoke on Thursdays as well. I have not tasted their food yet so I can not give feedback. The atmosphere is nice. It is lively and sometimes a little too crowded, if a small room crammed with people is an anxiety trigger for you. haha There seems to be lots of military visiting this bar since the base isnt too far away. Men in uniform isnt a bad thing, or so I have been told**Cough cough**. ;) The one TIP I have that is more of a WARNING is be careful pulling in and out of the parking lot because it sits right on the other side of a small hill and people come flying up over it. Don't order the Club Sandwich. It is not like what the menu describes. The menu says 3 pieces of bread. When it came it only had 2. When the waitress asked if everything was alright I said this is more like a turkey sandwich than a club. She said it had all the ingredients of s club but on two pieces of bread. She offered to bring me another piece of bread. I am a club connoisseur and other people don't understand that when you use three pieces of bread and cut into 4 pieces it helps hold the sandwiches together. Theirs was two pieces just cut in half. Went for a late lunch. Husband disappointed because they were out of the roast beef for the hot roast beef & fries. So he opted for the reuben. Said it was good, no fat. When I come back to Pittsburgh, I'm constantly reminded what a lack of night life this city truly has. The Sea Shell is no exception. Let's start with the few good things. This bar does not allowing smoking indoors, which is still legal in Pittsburgh apparently, and I truly appreciate that. The drinks are decent, and the prices were supposedly reasonable (I didn't pay.). The bartenders were friendly enough, and they had a small band. The parking lot is tight, but I found a spot. So let's get down to why I will probably never come back. They close the kitchen at 9 PM. 9 PM on a Friday night. Guys, this isn't acceptable. This limits how much I can drink on a night out. As if that wasn't bad enough, by 10:30, the entire place started to clear out for the night. Ugh! Yes, I was there with a group of co-workers, but I expect a bar to have people in it. So essentially after having two drinks and not being able to eat and seeing the bar was clearing out, I left at 11:00 PM. That's not even a night out. That could have been the beginning of an evening. Sorry, Sea Shell. I can't recommend mediocrity. read more

The Seashell is a great little local bar. I've been here a few times and we have yet to NOT have a good time. My friends and I always reminisce about the fun times we've had here! (Like singing the Star Bangle Banner at the top of our lungs when they called last call. I'm not sure why we did, but hey, when in America! Right? Lol) The parking lot is a bit small but there is a medical office building close by you can park in. They also have a nice patio area with a little fire place to cozy up to in the winter. They have basic drink and specials and a simple food menu with nothing to write home about. They have a taco night too, I think Tuesdays. If you're in the area and looking for a low key place with some fun locals, come here and you won't be disappointed! read more

***This is an ambiance review only*** Stopped in for a beer after a long day of winter travel. Music was good (quiet enough to have a conversation, but loud enough to hear with all genres playing). Bartender was kind and always smiling. Bar was blah though, it only holds about 15 guests and the tv situation isn't great. This particular night it was 5dg out, but super toasty in here (except for the bathroom where it might have been 6dgs) I'm in Pittsburgh once a month, so I'll update if I ever dine here. They make just about everything "home made". The burgers are amazing, went on a Friday night for dinner and drinks with coworkers. Burger was cooked just right, nice and juicy. The lettuce, tomato and onions for being out of season were delicious and the ranch for my fries sealed the deal. read more
