This place is Disney World for adult foodies. I wanted to walk out of here with a beaming smile and a mouse-ear headband that said "Breeze Bakery" in sparkles. Only, mouse ears should probably never be associated with a bakery. That would be some lousy marketing. So let's just ditch the Disney comparison and say this place is delicious, a feast for the eyes, a great place to sate a sweet tooth and a perfect place to discover Korean bakeries, if you didn't already know that was a thing.
Miscellaneous things I love about this place:
-Lots of free samples of their pastries that you can chomp on as you browse
-Many items that you don't really see outside of Korean bakeries (like warm crunchy tapioca rolls), plus items that seem like traditional French pastry but with very Korean twists (like cream puffs and beautiful slices of cream cake).
-Very friendly and fast service
-HUGE selection
-Everything is very freshly baked, which is important for the quality of pastry, and also savory stuff that sits at room temperature all day (like a hot dog roll)
-Inexpensive
-Lastly but most importantly, very very tasty food!!
I have dubious self-control, so when I walked into this place, I wanted to try EVERYTHING. Which confused the nice guy at the cash register a bit, so I pretended the boxes of pastry was for imaginary office buddies, not just me. I guess immediately plopping down at a table, ripping open the boxes and devouring everything blew my cover a bit. I couldn't try even half the stuff they were offering that day (this bakery has a ton of goods, and you can see freshly baked items constantly rolling from the kitchen in large carts). But what I did have was, for the most part, uniformly mouthwatering. Below are some standouts.
Sesame Tapioca rolls (2 in pack, $2.50): Very chewy (due to the tapioca) with a light nutty flavor (due to the sesame), and a stronger parmesan aroma (due to a super-secret mystery ingredient). Quite tasty
Curry Croquette ($1.85): Curry in this case is not spicy, and is a veggie and potato filling that tastes like a mild aloo gobi. I loved this. The roll was slightly sweet, crunchy, not greasy, and unique.
Peanut Cream bread ($1.20): A bit too sweet, but I'm nitpicking here
Blueberry cream cheese bread ($1.95): It has puff pastry with a blue mochi textured filling that does not taste of blueberry. Not one of my favorites
Buttercream bread ($0.99): This was heaven. The cream filling here is lighter and more cool-whip like than Western style bakeries make. If done wrong such types of fillings taste artificial, tasteless and grainy. But this was done right: it was smooth, fresh tasting and not too heavy in the flaky pastry.
Sausage Pastry ($2.25): My favorite of the bunch. I didn't know the love child of a mayo-slathered hot dog and a croissant would be so perfect.
Green Tea Bread ($2.99): Tastes a little grassy, as green tea does, but good texture (springy and moist).
Lemon Pastry (2.25): As good as one from a very good French bakery. Tart filling with bruleed lemon slice on top.
1 Pumpkin Manju ($1.75): Very very dense, with a filling that tastes like sweetened mashed pumpkin (very starchy), not pumpkin pie filling. The cake surrounding it is also very dense, sweet, crumbly and eggy. read more
