We stopped by Brenham on a weekend trip to a couple of wineries in the area and decided to stop by Brenham's Grill for lunch.. Decor was wonderful, it made you feel like you were back in the old days, especially when you looked out the window and saw an old school firetruck in the middle of street (they were having a fundraiser for diabetes)... Everything was great about the place besides the food (but I'm VERY picky)... We started off with an order of calamari (tasted either overcooked, frozen or probably both) and it came out hard and crunchy with no calamari taste whatsoever (all I tasted was batter).. I ordered the swiss and mushroom burger with fries which was pretty good but a little bland for my taste... Delicious! My wife and I were passing through Brenham on our way back from an anniversary trip and we're so glad we found this place. We had the chips & queso with salsa. The queso was perfectly creamy and the salsa was so fresh & chunky. I had the bacon cheeseburger, honestly one of the best burgers I have ever eaten; lightly toasted bun with fresh, well arranged fixings, crispy bacon sunken into melted cheese, and a tender, juicy hamburger patty. This is my new favorite restaurant, period. My husband and I are in town for the weekend and decided to try it. We were NOT disappointed. I got the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and green beans, he got the meatloaf with corn and steak fries. First of all I must say these are by far the best mashed potatoes I have EVER tasted, and I pretty much order mashed potatoes anywhere that offers them. They are so light, fluffy, and flavorful. I had no idea a potato could taste that good! The chicken fried steak melted under my fork, AND in my mouth. It's unfortunate I live North of Dallas. My new favorite restaurant is 250 miles from my home. Don't miss it. read more

The waitstaff is very rude, short and rushed us through our meal. They never came back to offer refills. When they gave us the checks, they just place them on the table and left us to figure out who's bill was who. I don't recommend this place at all. Had a burger and fries for lunch. Old Timer included fries $9.00. Good burger, didn't need the bacon and cheese etc that are also available. Fries were perfect. Crispy outside, soft inside. Restaurant had a mix of pasta offerings, Mexican and American etc. we arrived at 1:45 , they close at 2:00 . We could tell. They really were rushing us all out. They bussed the table next to us with a loud a squeaky mobile cart while the people were still sitting at the table !!! The other table it looked to me like they took the plates the folks were still eating... so just don't arrive late for lunch. The ketchup was served in the little plastic cups. They were seriously less than a1/4 full. We had to ask for more ; twice. She seemed put out having to get it Brenham is laid back and awesome, Brenham Grill needs to work on that. I am reviewing the food at a 3 star rating. The restaurant itself gets 4 stars, very beautifully decorated for the holidays. I looked around and everyone looked to be eating Italian food. They had Italian, burgers, Mexican, and home cooking. My friend's son had the beef quesadilla, he said the meat was weird. My friend had eggplant Parmagiana, it was pretty good. The side salads were fresh and crispy. I had the Tour of Italy (lasagna, pasta alfredo, and chicken Parmagiana). I liked two of my tours, the lasagna was odd. They used pizza type sausage pellets and it was mushy. Their sodas were expensive at $1.95 per can. Get tea it was bottomless. There are not a lot of choices in Brenham for non-chain restaurants at 8pm, but we will probably try it again. The wait staff was nice, good service, and amicable. Beautiful building. I think next time I will try the home cooking. Brenham is an awesome little town. read more

This was a fun little place to stop while passing through. A little off 290 - to downtown Brenham, it's a small place located inside of a bed and breakfast. It's super cute, holding less than 20 tables. The food was ok. We got the chicken pasta, chicken fingers, and chicken fried chicken. There is no kid menu. The portions are enough for 1 person- not really big enough to share. The queso was mediocre. I think the location and ambiance made the place worth stopping by. read more

Nothing gold can stay .... So, I'd been talking up this restaurant to my husband for a long time. This Monday, we finally had the chance to head to Brenham and eat there. I was surprised that it is now called the Brenham Grill instead of Capital Grill. It was still good, just not as awesome as it was on my last visit. This time I ordered the spaghetti lunch special with meatball added. Since I'd liked the tortilla soup so much the last time, I ordered a cup of it. My husband ordered a club sandwich with a side of potato salad. My meal came with a salad but I let my husband eat it since I don't like salad and had ordered the soup. He liked the salad, it seemed to have a good variety of fresh ingredients. My soup was still the best thing that we ordered ... it had good chicken, good broth, large amounts of avocado and cheese, etc. It was just about the perfect tortilla soup. I should've just had a bowl of that and called it a day. We were given a little bit of herbed bread (I dunno, like a circle about 4 inches in diameter) with our soup and salad. It was very good, but no more was offered when we finished it. We both ordered tea and water, and weren't offered straws and then were only given two straws when we asked for straws, so had to stop an employee again and ask for two more. My spaghetti lunch special was just not all that impressive. I was given a big bowl of pasta with a tiny bit of sauce in the middle and one large meatball. I cut the meatball up into smaller pieces and tried my best to spread the small amount of sauce throughout the bowl. It all tasted pretty bland to me so I ended up requesting paremesan cheese and adding salt as well. Don't think I've ever salted a pasta dish at a restaurant. However, my husband really enjoyed the pasta sauce ... he finished my food after I got full. He grew up in another state in an area with a heavy population of Italian folks and Italian restaurants, so maybe that means that it was actually authentic and I'm just more in tune with americanized Italian food. So, as the kids say, YMMV. He liked his club sandwich well enough. When I tasted it I thought it was fairly unremarkable, though obvious that the lunchmeat used wasn't of especially good quality. If I'd gotten it I probably would've done just fine as long as I drowned it in mayo. He got a huge portion of potato salad, and said it was pretty good. This sounds like a 3-or-less-star review probably, but the soup is so good that I'm leaving it at 4 stars (I also feel like I/we probably just blundered into ordering the wrong things on the extensive menu ... perhaps Mexican dishes or fried chicken are one's best bets). But if my husband and I ever end up back in Brenham, we'll probably give another charming downtown establishment a try rather than going to Brenham Grill. read more

We stopped here on a recent visit to see my grandfather. The atmosphere was very homey, being inside the Ant Street Inn, an old-time bed and breakfast. The food was simply amazing. My wife and mother both got the chicken fingers, which they exclaimed were the best chicken fingers in the world. The breading is very light and fluffy and the chicken is very tender. I got the chicken-friend steak, a personal favorite, which was delicious. My dad got the chimichanga, which he enjoyed very much. In addition to the generous portions we also got delicious home-made chips and salsa and fresh-baked bread. I almost ate too much of the complimentary starters to save room for my meal. Great food with a very diverse menu, highly recommended. Not to mention, there's not much to do in Brenham, so you just as soon enjoy a nice meal. read more

We ordered the southern classics: chicken fried steak, steak fingers, gravy, mashed potatoes, fried okra... it did not disappoint. All of this plus two beers totaled $35. Delicious, cheap food! They also served bread and oil to start, which was a nice surprise. The service was just so-so.. they were quick and attentive but didn't seem thrilled to be there, plus they were slightly taken aback that we brought in a stroller, but we were sure to move it out of the way. When we found out more people were coming, they did not hesitate to pull in as many tables as possible to help us out. Even with such a large group of people, there was no delay in service. We stopped here for lunch on a Monday one the way to our Blue Bell Ice Cream factory tour. Atmosphere: The restaurant, located inside an (former?) inn in a charming area of Brenham was pretty full. The young host got a table together quickly, however, and we were seated within minutes. The decor was old school - wooden fixtures and glass-covered tables, etc. Food: The menu is eclectic: American salads and sandwiches, Italian entrees and Mexican favorites. As previous experience has shown, it's hard to authentically create one ethnic food well, so combining three seemed a bit ambitious. I had a burger, which was quite good, with steak fries. The hubs had chicken quesadillas which were fine. Our daughter had fried okra, which was delicious. Overall, the food was good, save for the chips (too greasy, but at least warm and seemed homemade?) and salsa (tasted more like marinara sauce than salsa). Service: The service was pokey, but the staff was pleasant. There is no kid menu, or kid-friendly options (because anything 'kid-friendly' would be expensive and large for a child). The place is fine. I've had better, which is why I picked two-stars. I wouldn't necessarily bee-line back if I was in the area. read more

We visited downtown Brenham and thought we would try this place for lunch. I was disappointed. The cheeseburger tasted ok but it tasted like something you could get at a ballpark. I have my doubts that it was actually made there. My husband's beef fajita quesadilla was ordinary, which is surprising, given they are supposed to be known for their fajitas. My husband and I have been here numerous times in the past and enjoyed their EggPlant Parm. Tonight I ordered this dish and it was soggy/mushy covered in tomato sauce. I chose the Fettuccine Alfredo which had No taste! If you're ever in Brenham looking for a place to eat, I'd definitely recommend the Brenham Grill. really good food at very reasonable prices. When we walked in, I was prepared to look at the menu and see nothing under $15. Most of the meals were around $7 or $8 and very good sized portions. Not SOO much that you were overwhelmed. but not tiny plates with just barely your money's worth. I only knocked one star off because they don't offer free drink refills. This was our first visit to Brenham and after checking out the Yelp recommendations we chose the Grill for our post-Uptown Swirl dinner. I ordered the Texas Cobb Salad and my lovely wife had the eggplant parmesan. The service was prompt, although a little confusing as we had three servers, but each took great care of us. The salad was fresh and included grilled chicken. Everything in the salad was crisp, no hint of leftovers or day old veggies. My wife devoured her dinner, so I can only guess it was as delicious as it looked. There is limited seating, but the turnover was quick, staff doesn't seem to encourage folks to say and relax. read more
