Wasn't too crowded upon arrival, but as it got closer to race time, the humongous back patio was flooded with spectators, mostly college kids from the looks of it. Im not into crowds so it wasn't the most pleasant setting. The bartender was helpful in describing the available seltzers so I could make a choice. I also needed dinner so decided to go with a smashburger and fries, which was nothing special but was still devoured given my hunger level. Had to fork over steep Westside prices for a small meal that didn't fill me up and one drink. We left after the races were under way. I felt bad for the turtles with so many drunk kids hovering over them and all the lights and absurdly loud speakers. On any other night, it would be a cool place to sip a brew with the ocean breeze in your hair and toss some cornhole bags around with pals. One more note: parking can be scarce being on a busy street. Make sure to check street signage. I got lucky and snagged a close spot but others may have to walk a bit.

Location 3 stars: Busy downtown Santa Monica, on Southwest corner of Santa Monica Blvd and the 2nd and 3rd Street. Metered street parking is possible but hard to find. There are plenty of paid parking lots. I used the 2nd Street city-owned parking structure 4, for $4. It is a few blocks from the restaurant. No valet. Venue 3.5 stars: Large, older venue, consisting of a British-themed Food and Souvenir store, a bar, and a restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. Service 4 stars: Friendly, attentive and helpful. Billing 2 stars: They suggest the tipping amount by calculating it AFTER TAX, which is incorrect and misleading, and it inflates the amount. Tipping is customarily calculated as a percentage of the total before discounts and before tax. See the pic that I have attached. Drinks 4 stars: Full bar. Reasonable prices. Food 4 stars: Huge menu of British appetizers, soups, salads, main courses and desserts. We had the Sausage Rolls and the Potato Samosas as appetizers, and the Steak, Guinness & Mushroom Pie, the Cornish Pastie, the Chicken Tikka Masala, and the Irish Beed Stew (available on Saturdays only) as our main courses. All were delicious and highly recommended. We did not have dessert this time but the menu looked good.

The batter was extremely salty and it seemed like the oil wasn't fresh. Disappointing! I had a pint of Kilkenny on nitro and it had off-flavors but my second pint, Smithwick's was very good. I was hoping for a better experience.

We were daunted by the 1.5 hr drive to where we were staying and hoped that eating closer would save some time later. It did! Rasselbock is a bit hidden away but we found it with street metered parking nearby. We had arranged for a reservation but we hardly needed it. The place was mostly empty when we arrived. Music was thumping, and not German music. It was classic rock but a touch too loud. So keep that in mind. I appreciated that they had Erdinger beer. That's some of the best beer around. I chose the non alcoholic since I had a drive ahead. I was told it might not be cold enough and the server brought me the bottle to sample it by touch. I cheerfully noted Germans don't drink very cold beer and it was fine. My wife and I ordered schnitzels, she chicken and I pork. She had the Oma's potato salad - which with mustard and mayo really would not have passed muster with a real Oma like mine. She reported it was good anyway. I had spaetzle and cucumber dill salad. The kids both had a bratwurst, salad and fries. On the whole the schnitzels were good. Not entirely authentic but USA-good enough. I'd say the same for my spaetzle and salad. One kid liked the bratwurst, one didn't. I found what I tried of the sausage to be pretty good. The stone ground mustard was particularly good. Service was a little slow to start but the food came quickly and we were off. A 4.2 rounds to a flat 4. German food is hard to come by anywhere, so I welcome it. Especially with a good selection of beer. They serve multiple sizes included a liter "mass." Sounds great but I think those days are behind me. Definitely worth a try.

The fries were not what I ordered (I asked for sweet potato fries and got skinny fries) but I like all fries either way and the skinny fries were good. I ate it alllll. The pickles and lettuce came on the side with some carrot sticks and ranch. No complaints here. Service: The bartender is a nice lady but I think the only one working and so you must order at the bar. Our food was ready and we had to wait a little for it but not a huge deal. Ambiance is what you'd expect of a sports bar on any given weeknight. On the louder side, neighborhood bar with people who are clearly regulars, but chill. Lots of screens. On the more dimly lit side. No frills just good vibes and decent food.

While my bartender was very kind a super cool, the food is now a HUGE disappointment. The large order used to have 4 large pieces of fish, now it's only 3 small pieces that are heavily breaded with some sort of chewy/gummy dough. The bread is super tiny and barely equivalent to a small slice of a tiny French baguette. The carrot cuts are also much smaller. Way to ruin a good thing. Save your money and drive out to Malibu Seafood to still get that authentic pub style fish taste. Come for a drink, but no the fish. It's not the same classic taste that used to make me drive miles for. Of course, I ate it because I was beyond starving and hate wasting food but today may forever be my last hooray as the fish is what drew me here. It was always cooked to perfection and taste, but alas those days are gone. New ownership? I don't know but pinching a penny should be worth losing folks over lesser quality food. I beg of you to fix it. They also provide suggested gratuity based on total WITH tax. Check your bills as you should only be tipping on food service.

I ordered margaritas ($4.00) and added Cadillac Tequilla to it for an extra $1.00 The margaritas were pretty good, as they served it like slurpees out of a machine. You can get it with salt or plain. The salt was lime-salt! Fun to lick off the cup! Domestic beers are $3, imported beers are $4, and wine is $3. Each of the drinks come in little clear plastic cups that are easy to carry around (and small enough so people don't get too drunk at the food truck events). So you ask why the 1 star rating? First let me say that the drinks are nice. The prices are reasonable. BUT, the people who are running this operation are pretty rude. There were about 10-15 people in line waiting for beverages. The lady who looked like she was coordinating the drinks (Heather) kept on pulling her friends out of the long lines and giving them free drinks - all right in front of other paying customers who were patiently waiting their turn. Additionally, the two bartenders (Bill and Will) were also giving free drinks to their friends (church goers?) in line and serving them before they served others who fairly waited their turn in line. Come'on - I totally get it that you can/will give away free drinks to friends. I would do the same. BUT, pulling friends out of line so you can give them free drinks before customers who wait their turn in line is not good. There were 4 different groups of people that were pulled out of the line to get their free drinks before us. Glad this was a church fundraiser!
