I feel like this place has great potential but I left unimpressed. The worst part, by far, was the service. The food was "meh". The ambiance was okay. Struggled to give it 3 stars but it's relatively close by and it was only my first time there. THE FOOD: (2.5/5) We orders the fried calamari and cherry peppers. It was bomb. Slightly chewy but still well worth the $10. I had the One Eyed Jack Burger ($15). It was a little more pink than I preferred but they switched our orders so....yeah. The waffles fries were on point. I got really excited when I read that the burger came with bacon jam, a fried egg and cheddar cheese, but the cheddar cheese was very oily and they over did it with the bacon jam so it felt like there was a cheddar cheese bacon jam pudding slopped on my burger topped with a slightly over cooked egg. THE SERVICE (2/5): We had like 3 servers and not one got it right smh. Even the table next to ours looked pissed by the middle of their meal. It's took them like 30 minutes to make 2 burgers...which they messed up. I ordered my burger well done and my bf ordered his medium...they switched up our orders. Fail. I then ordered a side of tartar sauce (I know. I'm weird. I love condiments). The server straight up never brought it and when I called her over to ask for more water she looked straight into my eyes and I could tell she didn't even realize she forgot smh. Of course, we then had to wait another 10 minutes to get our check after I purposefully grabbed the server that brought us our food on my way to the restroom to ask for the check. I had learned my lesson and they hadn't been back to check on us during our meal. They need both better servers and a better system. The servers had tables both inside and outside instead of splitting them. THE AMBIENCE (3.5/5): Nothing bad, nothing impressive. We sat in the patio out back bc it was a beautiful day. Really cool that it's like 2 minute walk to the beach though. It would be super cool if they built a second floor with a deck so you could see the water. My fiancé and I came to CT for a little get away with the family and Brennan's was a few blocks away from the place we were staying at. A good selection of beer on tap, a fair selection of spirits and above average pub fare makes this place a perfect spot. Food wise we had the little neck clams and clam chowder to start off. I was so looking forward to eating here. Sadly it was disappointing. After waiting almost an hour for a bowl of chowder and a kids order of sliders & fries, the chowder was bland with one chunk of a clam, the fries were cold. The server stated our small order took so long because a large order was placed before ours?? We were seated outside at a table without an umbrella, when asked if we could move tables our server said yes...but offered no assistance moving our plates. ..just got our ticket...no free refills for tea while you're waiting an hour for ho-hum chowder! read more

While the food is reasonable and the place is located in a quiet, charming neighborhood I will not return to this bar/restaurant. We had a question about an error on our bill. The woman we spoke with became irate, to the point of irrational. Don't know if she was intoxicated or always behaves with hostility. BLEW MY MIND to later learn that she's the owner. Do yourself a favor and, instead, go to Crab Shell, Caseys - or even Taco Bell for a more pleasant experience. read more

This is a little bar and restaurant in Stamford that has the most amazing meals with a great twist. Try the Carl's burgers I eat it every time I come here. The drinks are great and atmosphere is amazing. Definitely a must do when in Stamford. During summers you can run to the beach which is an added benefit. read more

I love Brennan's. We live up the road and visited Brennan's the first time we looked at the apartment. We must have been fifty times or more over the last three years. Brennan's is pub meets beach bar meets dive bar. Eamer took over a year or two ago and the place has improved since. They have five or six beers on tap - Guinness, Blue Point, Sam Adams seasonal, and the rest rotate. Half Full has been on for a while now. The food is typical bar food including some seafood items. Most is average at best. $8-13 for most things. Big plates and seafood and specials are closer to $15-22. I get the chicken caesar wrap 90% of the time and the Italian the other 10%. I've tried many other things on the menu, but these are the best for me. Best chicken caesar I've ever had. Get the steak fries - curly fries are for people who don't appreciate the deliciousness that is the fry. The service at the bar is fantastic. Eamer and Sam are the two mainstays right now. Chat them up - they're sweet and really will take care of you. The clientele is what you'd expect. Tons of locals skewed in the older male direction, but plenty of young people show up, too, especially in the summer. There's an electronic dart board and outdoor seating, too. If you're on the beach reading this, walk over and check it out. You won't be disappointed. read more

Brennan's is the ideal place to spend an afternoon or early evening. The atmosphere is relaxed with a true "pub" feel. There's even an outdoor patio with a fountain (and a turtle). Best bets: - Avocado fries (sliced avocado breaded with panko) - Burgers - Extensive salad menu (believe it or not) Despite being in a neighborhood, there's always plenty of street parking and it's only a two second walk over the dunes to get to West Beach. Brennan's is the Cheers of Shippan, CT the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. the food is generally right on. one of my friends found the chicken on her Cob salad dry. but the Carl's burger, the steak sandwich , the fries and the coleslaw were all right on. the atmosphere is what you'd expect in a local watering hole. the big plus is the outside patio which is large and quiet. being in my 60s i appreciate a low volume atmosphere. inside, it's loud. outside, just right. so until thanksgiving and off hours this is a go to place for me. read more

This place looks like a little shack in a very quiet residential neighborhood. It's a small space but they utilize it very well. The bar area was absolutely packed with locals at about 2PM on a saturday. The outdoor area and indoor dining area was also modestly packed. My wife went with the soft shell crab entree and I went with the CT Style lobster roll. The softshell crab was FRIKKEN AWESOME! The sweet potato/mango/bacon/cabbage hash that it was served on top of was also incredible. My lobster roll was great. visited last weekend at around 9pm on a Friday night. The location is interesting since it's a loud bar tucked into a residential neighborhood. I wouldn't want to be their neighbors! The patio was very lively when we arrived but we wanted to sit inside for dinner. Tracking someone down to talk about a table was the first issue. With no hostess, we kind of stood towards the front waiting to be approached and inevitably asked a bartender who "hollered" for a waitress to help us. The tables were full but she informed us one would be opening up soon. The service wasn't bad- our waitress was sweet- but just spread too thin. I'm not sure how they set up the sections, but it seemed that 2 waitresses were running all over the place, in and out, making drinks, grabbing from the kitchen, back and forth, rather than having a group of tables in the same area. You had to grab one of them to get anything additional, (drinks or napkins) as they were running by. The food came out very quickly and with a packed house, the kitchen was on point. I liked my burger but my date said that his steak sandwich didn't have much steak in it. I wouldn't recommend if you're in a rush, but it looks like it would be a good spot to grab a table for a few hours while you watch football. read more

Went here in a group of 9, shortly after opening. Food took forever to get to the table, even the few pieces of toast we asked for. Toast. It doesn't take long to make toast! My friend's French Onion Soup was burnt and smelled like charcoal. When our food finally came out, it was lukewarm. Mine was room temperature (I got the hangover chilaquiles), complete with soggy chips. Wings are good, but if a plate of 'hot' food isnt even warm, it's highly likely the food ISN'T hot. read more

I have been here 3 times to make sure it's not a fluke. Brennan's used to be a typical bar with fried bar-food that was forgettable. Apparently there are new owners who have kicked up the food to where it's really very good. All the dishes we tried were well presented and tasty. There is also outside dining which is quite nice. The fish dishes were quite good as well as the burgers, so whatever your preference I think you will enjoy it. The only down-side is that it's in a residential area and sometimes parking may be a block away. It's a bar so sometimes it's a bit noisy for me, but no to the extent you have to shout across the table. Overall worth a try! read more

One of my favorite summertime restaurants. We keep a boat in Stamford, so Brennan's is our go to place after a day of boating on the sound. The steamed clams in broth are to die for, they go so quickly we call ahead to have a few orders put aside for us. We have been patronizing this place since 2013, and have never been disappointed. Fish and burgers are equally as good! Oh we usually eat on the outside terrace due to the noise volume inside! Everyone is very pleasant. We been here multiple times, the food is really good, and the service is very good. Sometimes they're so busy that it's hard to get someone to greet you, but outside of that, I enjoyed the food and our experience every time we have decided to eat here. Parking can be tricky sometimes, because if you can't find a spot, you have to go all the way back around since it's surrounded by one way streets. read more
