    Oxtail Soup
    Taylor T.

This seems like an odd review for a restaurant that specializes in steak because, this is for a stew and a wonderfully good one at that. I've sat at the bar solo at Anton's and enjoyed a big hearty bowl of oxtail soup for under $10 and left impressed. I have, however, not ordered any steak or such on the menu...nor probably will I when it comes to some of the dismal reviews I've read. Where some things seem overpriced, this beacon of warm hope waits for you, all for under $10. The oxtail was tender and plentiful with huge chunks easily located throughout the loose stew. The soft carrots and potatoes were simple, but only needed some pepper from me. There were big pieces of onion, just how I like them and dark colorful leafy greens. It wasn't necessarily the ingredients that made the soup standout it was the tender love and care that seemed to go into making it that I tasted. It was something like my grandma would make, or like my dear friend from Kenya, who I miss, used to make. This dish did what great food should always do, it brought back memories and fed the soul. I may not return to Anton's for the reasons it prides itself on, its steak or its butcher shop however, I sure will be back for this stew.

My first time coming here. What a unique atmosphere for a restaurant. When making a reservation, you have different rooms/areas to select from. We sat upstairs and the ambiance was unique. Our server was attentive and friendly. Highly recommend getting the meatballs as an appetizer. For dinner, I had steak frites. It was ok...I've had better. My biggest complaint was it was in a bowl with my side salad.

We went out to celebrate -- nothing fancy, just an excuse to raise a glass and eat something that wasn't made in our own kitchen. The place had that classic steakhouse swagger the second we walked in. Dark wood, the hum of country music playing just loud enough to remind you you're in Kansas City, and a bar lined with enough local taps to make you believe the city could run on beer alone. KC supporting KC -- the way it should be. Rachel was behind the bar, the kind of bartender who carries the place on her shoulders without making a show of it. She was busy, sure, but she didn't rush. Instead, she leaned in and gave us the kind of intro every first-timer deserves: what they do, what they stand for, and where to look for the good stuff. She pointed out the butcher counter like it was sacred ground, ran through happy hour, and somehow still made it feel like we had her full attention. A real bartender's bartender -- no frills, no nonsense, just genuine care. Drinks hit the bar fast. Mine came on strong with lemon -- a little too strong. Tart enough to drown the balance that should've been there. My partner's was a bruiser, the kind of cocktail that hits you first and apologizes later. But the walnut bitters punched through nicely -- a small redemption in a glass that could've used a little restraint. We ordered three appetizers because moderation is for the uncommitted: wings, meatballs, and Korean beef riblets. The meatballs stole the show. Big, juicy, unapologetic -- the kind of meatball that reminds you why the Italians do Sunday dinner better than anyone. Fat, herbs, garlic, and sauce that begged for bread to mop it up. Perfect. The wings had that beautiful crisped-up skin -- the kind that shatters under your teeth -- but the meat underneath had gone too far, left dry in the chase for texture. The buffalo sauce had separated a bit on the plate, but that house-made blue cheese saved it. Creamy, dill-forward, clearly made by someone who gives a damn. Then there were the riblets. Tender? Sure. Juicy? Absolutely. But "Korean"? Not really. The lime was great, the chipotle dipping sauce was tasty -- but chipotle isn't Korean. No gochujang, no funk, no spice -- just a solid rib with an identity crisis. As the shift turned over, Rachel cleaned us up, laughed with us, and cheered us for clearing every plate. We're no strangers to enjoying ourselves, and she saw that -- celebrated it, even. But when the bill came, the goodbye wasn't there. Not cold, just... unfinished. Like a great song fading out instead of ending on a final note. Still, I walked out smiling. The kind of place that might not blow your mind, but it sticks with you -- in the details, the effort, the humanity. Because at the end of the day, it's not about perfection. It's about places like this -- dark wood, cold beer, good people -- trying to do right by the city that built them.

The specials board.. they have fine dining - bar room

So we throughly enjoyed our stay in Kansas City MO. The waitresses at Anton's made us feel welcome and valued. The menu offers a nice selection with happy hour specials and daily specials. They have a nice selection of beers on tap. We had the steak soup - very good, ox tail soup - very good,, potato skins - okay, Philly steak - very good, chicken wings - real chicken wings so big but good.. special thanks to Rachel and Bree for making our dining excellent. Only negative: the bathroom is absolutely disgusting. There is trash and flies.. but it is downstairs - but needs a major overhaul

Anyone know if they are still in business? I saw a FB message stating they were closing permanently, now their FB page has been deleted.

So we loaded up and showed up one day around Noon. Ambiance was really cool. It's in the middle of some sort of progressive looking shanty-esque suburb. The kind of place that does drag queen bingo. I was right at home. Inside was college sport bar, but with a nice, huge board on the wall of all their beer selection. It Was quite expansive. Service was top notch, too. Nice server took care of us, made sure our glasses were never empty. The food came out at a good clips, and we got an unexpected bonus of free little beignet-like donuts with some delicious dipping sauces. As for food, we started off with a jumbo order of the Truffle Parmesan Hand-Cut Fries for the table. We got to choose two from their extensive list of aioli dipping sauces. Fries were good. Dusted with the perfect amounts of truffle and parmesan. And the sauces were my oh my. I recommend paying the upcharge to just try them all. I mentioned the time earlier, because we had no idea we were stumbling upon their brunch menu. Even more options to choose from! I got the Crispy Waffle Smash Burger (smashed hertzog beef patties, fried egg, smoked bacon, merkt's cheddar, caramelized onion, maple aioli, crispy buttermilk waffle). This thing was really nice. Perfect waffle, not too small, not too big, and no oily or anything obtrusive. A nice bun option. Eggs and bacon sometime get lost against giant burger patties, but with these smash patties, the extra accoutrements really stand out and make this burger really stand out in my mind. I also for the try the Smokestack Burger (smoked burnt ends, smoked gouda, whiskey bbq glaze, pickle relish, chipotle aioli & crispy jalapeño straws). Uhhh, as you can read, this thing was loaded with goodness. Fatty burger, smokey burnt ends, sweet boozy glaze, acidic pickles, and texture from that jalapeno. This was the perfect burger. I insist you order this. Overall, my research did not reveal Beer Kitchen to me, locals recommendation did. Shows that you gotta use your street smarts instead of your book smarts sometimes. Best meal I had in Kansas City.

My only complaint is that the place can get pretty loud because of the acoustics, but when it isn't super busy (or if it is nice outside) that is ideal!
