I debated between 4 and 5 stars for a while before settling on 4. Realistically, I think it will be closer to 5 once they iron out the first week kinks. We were a table for 3. We got there about 5:45 and were quoted 45 minutes. I think we got seated in about 35. There was one hostess who was really taking charge, and was super attentive, friendly, and helpful. She's definitely a keeper. For appetizers we order the Brussels sprouts and the one pound meatball. They were out of Brussels Sprouts, but that's not shocking for the first weekend in business. The meatball was amazing. The sauce has just a touch of sweetness, and the meatball wasn't dry at all. The Ricotta on top seemed home made. For entrees, my wife got the salmon, which she said was awesome. I got the burger, which was very very good. The fries were perfect. The only real issue we ran into was with my mother's order. She got the steak tips medium rare. A couple were close to medium, but most were medium well. The thing is, they still tasted very good, and even overcooked weren't too tough, but my mother did send them back. Now, the sign of a good restaurant is how they handle problems and how willing they are to fix it. This place, if I could, I'd give them ten stars. They manager/friend of the owner came over to our table, addressed the issue, and took it off our bill. My mom decided to get a Margherita pizza to go, which they gave her complementary without us asking for anything like that, which shows professionalism, and a desire to right "wrongs." A+ job. Speaking of people visiting the table, we spoke with the father of the owner a few times. He is awesome. He's funny, friendly, and personable. Honestly, they should keep him on busy nights just to chat people up. It was a good time. Other than that, just minor first week ins business type issues. Service was a bit slow, but the waitress kept us in the loop, which was nice. I have a feeling that everything will be ironed out pretty quickly. I think this place has the chance to really stand out in the area. It's casual, but not dumpy. Fun, but nice. It fills a niche that is desperately needed in the area. The atmosphere is nice inside, however, the food needs some work. I ordered the chicken parm with pasta, and I had high hopes since my friend said the food is decent. When it came out, it did not look very appetizing. The chicken was slightly burnt, and the pasta was hard - definitely not al dente. I believe I'm able to make a better chicken parm. We went on a Saturday night and it was busy but we were seated quickly which was nice. Our table was rocking and we had to stabilize it ourselves so the food wouldn't fall off but we figured that out. We had seen the restaurant on Phantom Gourmet and were excited to try some of the items featured. Problem was that nothing featured on the show was served anymore. We got the kung pao calamari and the firecracker shrimp, which were just ok. For mains we got the steak and cheese sandwich and the Asian bowl with veggies and steak. The veggie bowl was mushy and the $12 addition of steak was three very small pieces on top. The steak and cheese also was underwhelming. All in all it was expensive for food that was marginal at best. The food was just ok, the service was fine, and the portions were overpriced for sure. It was very loud and hard to talk as well. My girlfriends and I went there this afternoon and had a great experience. The decor is cool and modern with plenty of tv's but enough space so you don't feel constrained or too close to the people next to you. The brunch menu was great, 2 of my friends are vegans and they had a great arugula salad. We ordered nachos with chicken, buffalo tenders, & a basket of fries. Love the gas lamps and industrial feel. My glass of wine was excellent The bad: As many others have said, it is SO loud! My friend and I had to yell to each other. My throat was actually sore from straining for the two hours we were there. I don't know why they have not attempted to sound proof the place. For instance, we were seated next to a table of four (divided through a partition that splits one room from a lower room). If they simply put a barrier there instead of having the partition as just a few wooden slats, they could reduce that noise. The food was blah -- salmon and green beans were overcooked and the rice pilaf had ZERO taste. When you know you could cook the same dish better at home, it is a big disappointment. My friend has the mac and cheese and I took a bite. That was a nice dish -- good flavor and consistency. I'll be back for drinks during off nights when it is not so loud. I decided to try out Brick and Beam for an early Sunday dinner. The restaurant was surprisingly busy for an early Sunday, it had a great atmosphere and big bar. We sat at a table in the front section of the restaurant. We order clam chowder, roasted Brussels sprouts app, and a margherita pizza. The clam chowder was great! The roasted Brussel sprouts were yummy with a nice balsamic glaze on top however the presentation was less than impressive. Basically a huge pile of messy Brussel sprouts tossed onto a plate. The pizza was delicious but not a traditional margherita pizza (no marinara sauce) which was bit disappointing. Overall I would definitely go back! read more

Saturday my family and I hosted a reception after my grandmothers funeral at the Brick and Beam. It was perfect! We occupied the front bar area which sat about 40 people comfortably. The atmosphere is cozy and modern. The food was great! People are still talking about the CBZ. The presentation and set up was really nice and the staff/bartenders were so helpful and sweet. It was the perfect end to a beautiful ceremony. My family was able to relax and socialize without having to worry about a thing. We came in on Friday night. I really liked the atmosphere and it's a great addition to the area. We sat at the bar so that we didn't need to wait for a table. They were out of pizzas and entrees which wasn't a big deal given this was night 2 for them. We had the lobster rolls which were ok. The rolls were nicely buttered but I felt the filling had way too much celery and lacked a little flavor. The fries were nicely cooked though which somewhat made up for the lobster rolls. One area for improvement - The bar staff didn't check in on us even though my husbands beer was done for a while and didn't pay attention to the customers so we could get their attention. Stopped by to check out this new Restaurant. Had grown up Going to Villa Rosa and had mixed feelings going in due to the fact that it was so different than Villa Rosa. The food was excellent and exceeded my expectations. The fish and chips was the best I've ever had. Portions sizes were great and the service was Excellent!!! Finally a decent restaurant in the area. The decor is casual but attractive. Decent selection of wines by the glass. I had the Cobb salad and it was excellent. At $16 it was quite pricey however it was a good size. My mother had the chicken philly sandwich. The bread was excellent as was the chicken. Stopped in here for a quick bite, while waiting for my tire to be fixed, (which is very conveniently located across the street) and I wish I could love this place! It's definitely cozy inside that's a plus! So, I asked to look at the drink menu and thought the beer would be listed as well on it, but there is a separate menu for that too! The last thing people want is to be confused and to showcase how many menus they have to look at to decide on what they want to order...the worst! But I tasted their new widowmaker which was good, but not great! So, I decided to go for the wine I know and love, Rickshaw Cabernet Sauvignon...yummy! I then ordered the wedge salad which came out in a flash! Definitely needed more dressing, (I knew I should've taken a picture)! The dressing was "plopped" on top and again on the bottom so I knew I had to work the dressing throughout the salad, which was not ideal! I really wanted to love this place after seeing the pictures of the food on here and after walking in and noticing it was a cool atmosphere. We were seated and got no greeting, so my boyfriend went to the restroom. He came back, we sat there for a few minutes and then I used the restroom to kill some time. I came back, and then we got greeted. There were no drink menus on the table so she asked us what we wanted to drink and we obviously didn't know what they had. No biggie, so we ordered soft pretzels, 2 waters and asked for the drink menus. A few minutes later we got the menus and then eventually ordered the drinks. Our pretzels came out, but we had no cocktails or waters to have with them. Ended up finishing them before we even got the cocktails, but never got the waters. We looked around and realized that actually no one in sight had a water which I just thought was weird since so many people were drinking alcohol. As a server I was always taught to at least offer water especially because you don't know if the person was drinking before coming to your restaurant. Our server only had 2 other tables otherwise I would've taken that into consideration that she was maybe just busy. So normally their food and service are good. Lately I have been doing take out from there. They are not good at getting take out to you on time. First time was a little behind and this last time it took over and hour. They over cooked the salmon and had to cook it again. The beet salad was missing 2 out of the five ingredients. Came in for Saturday date-night. We were on (what we thought was) the early side...probably about 6:15 PM. We were wrong. The place was jam packed and the wait for a table was about 20 minutes. We decided to hold out and during the time we spent waiting, I took stock of the surroundings. The layout is different. When you walk in, there is a longer than wide front room with a very small waiting area to your right and a small bar and a couple high tops to your left. The hostess stand is actually just beyond the entry into the next room ... which features a couple communal tables, a large horseshoe bar and some table seating. Finally there is a third "annex" in the back, again long and not very wide that has additional seating. The place is shined and glossy, but it's LOUD. That was our first, very distinct impression. You have to speak loudly to be heard. I'm all for the bar experience, but having no quieter space to dine in a more intimate fashion is a little unfortunate. The menu is limited and features mainly bar staples (nachos, pizza, burgers). From what I can tell, it's a place where a lot of folks bring kids, perhaps because the menu isn't too fussy. After the 20 minute wait, we were seated in the second room - the one with the huge bar. The atmosphere wasn't great, just because we wanted something slightly more quiet so we could enjoy conversation, but we made the best of it. Our server was nice enough and quick to come around to take drink orders and eventually the food orders. We started with the buffalo chicken dip - very good. Flavorful and perfect for two. Had more tortilla chips than were necessary, but appreciated that they didn't skimp. I ordered the steak with mash and green beans for dinner. I ordered medium rare and it was cooked perfectly. I yearned for more taste. It lacked punch, but I added a little salt and made due. Bf got the steak tips (basically my dinner, but cut into chunks) with rice pilaf and zucchini / squash "noodles". He had no complaints. Truly, the food was satisfying and I can see it being a fun place to meet friends for a more boisterous evening out, but for date night, it fell a little short thanks to the loud atmosphere. read more

Went for lunch with my mom today. I am in the industry so if I actually get on Yelp and review you know it has to be superb. From the manager at the door when we arrived to the hostess and the friendly efficient service, it was so enjoyable. Our server was on point, asking me if I wanted another iced tea before I had to ask, never forgetting a thing! She seemed happy to work there! Sorry I forgot her name. Now....the food.....pretzels were awesome, fresh and hot! Mom and I both got burgers, cooked to perfection all fresh! Quality ingredients! Hot as hot can be! The bun was like heaven! I was so impressed with the hand cut fries, and the onion strings. All of it was amazing! Fresh batter from a clean fryer! I looked at the reviews here and they are definitely lower than they should be. There is no place in Quincy that has what this place has! I had brunch there on 5/27/18. The wait staff and people working apparently had better things to do than taking care of the customers (the service was terrible), but the hash and eggs were exceptional. The staff was nice enough, they just didn't seem to know that they had customers. I ended up giving up on someone showing up at the table I was seated at and sat at the inside bar (the bartender at the bar near the door was busy on his phone). She was slow serving, too, but in her defense, it was because she was running SOLO and was busy with DOING HER JOB. Her barback filled in as best he could, but he was obviously new and needed some training. They both get an A for effort. But were up against a bunch of socializing staff. I had the has and eggs, which was outstanding. If the front of the house had their stuff together, this place would be great. We returned last Wednesday. Alas, it has gone downhill. The restaurant seems to be run by teenagers...or very young, unprofessional, inexperienced staff. They no longer serve my beloved salmon salad. In fact, the menu is a skeleton of what it was and lacks interest. I think this place has become a very nicely renovated barroom with pub food. There is nothing wrong with that but embrace it; don't try to be something you aren't, otherwise, you will have disappointed patrons. My wife and I went on a Friday night. We both knew that Brick and Beam just opened a couple of weeks ago. And like most places here in Quincy when a new place opens around here to stay a way and let the place settle in. So we waited and there was a crowd even at 5:45. We were told that it would be 15 minutes to get a table. I thought it was going to be longer like 35-45. But to our surprise it was just 10 minutes. We were seated and in a few minutes the waiter came by and took our drink order and was back in about five minutes with them. He asked if we would like an appetizer before we made up our minds for what we wanted for dinner. Very smart move on his part. So we ordered the soft pretzel and it came out in about 10 minutes and it was hot and big and good with our beers. He then took our order for dinner. My wife got the Baked Cod and I had the Rib Eye Steak. My wife said the cod was good but a little on the dry side. My Rib Eye was done perfect medium rare just how I want it done. For dessert we had the apple cobbler with ice cream warm and very good as well. The prices are a little on the high side but well worth it. On the down side the place was on the loud side but it was a Friday Night and could be well expected. We will be back for sure. Over all worth the 4 stars. We wish them well and hope they will around for a long time. read more

When we were ready for the cake the hostess just dropped it off at the table in the box with the candles still in the bag. Very rude and awkward, then rolling her eyes at us. Went there last night, food wasn't bad but it wasn't worth the wait. Took over a half hour just to get a salad, another half hour for pasta and a sandwich. The third person in our party didn't get their food for another 15 minutes. The party of four next to us waited 45 minutes for a salad and another half hour for their food. The manager came over and ended paying the check. Seriously if your going to run your restaurant like this you should just close and get your act together. The noise level is terrible. read more

Located down the street from East Milton Sq, Brick and Beam is the old Villa Rosa that was a tired old local Italian eatery that had seen better days, a long, long time ago, so an update was inevitable, and what an update! You wouldn't even recognize the old place, completely renovated and looking fresh with a vibrant atmosphere. Upon entry there's a great little bar on your left with about 10 or 12 seats and a few dining tables, head down the stairs and the place opens up to an outstanding lower level that looks incredible. Gone is the dingy tired look, and in its place is great example of what can be accomplished if the bricks and beams are strong (its not just a clever title!) Nice decor and a beautiful solid wood U shaped bar dominate the left hand side and directly in front is a gathering table (kind of like a really long, oblong shaped high top table) where multiple people can pull up a seat and chat to anyone sitting there, i love this, a great place to just hang and have a few pints and if the mood strikes you order up a few apps. We sat at the bar and were served an excellent pint of Guinness and we ordered a plain cheese pizza. I figured i'd get plain cheese, that way i can actually taste the sauce and the crust and not be overwhelmed by a bunch of over powering toppings. The pizza didn't come out for long time, in fact we were ready to leave when it actually did, so we took it to go. I'm cutting this place a lot of slack as they have really just opened, the place was packed as most new places are, and of course everyone is still finding their feet from the hostess's to the bar staff, to the kitchen staff and the wait staff, i know how long it takes to hit your stride with a new restaurant, even when you have all seasoned pros' working it, and that's usually several months, but i'm not concerned about the slow pizza, and here's why... The manger/owner recognized our problem and came over and couldn't be more apologetic, he took care of the pizza cost and gave me his card to text him next time we headed over so he could comp us a little more. You won't fail with this kind of attention in customer relations. You recognize the issues and work to rectify, Brick and Beam i believe will be very successful if they continue on with this type of customer service, give them a few months, it will be worth it. The pizza itself was outstanding, delicious hand tossed crust, a robust tomato sauce that wasn't overpowering and topped with fresh cheese cooked to perfection, one of the best pizza's you'll find anywhere. Staff were awesome (of course many locals will recognize some of the staff from other restaurants) prices were reasonable and the menu is very nice and compact, i'm happy they made it small and didn't try to make everything under the sun, this will help in speeding up the service in the near future, don't do much but what you do, do it well....... Parking can be tough, especially on the weekend and i ended up parking quite a distance away, but it was worth it. Of note, the dessert is my all time favorite, didn't get chance to try it, but i'll be back for sure to sample Sticky Toffee Pudding with vanilla bean ice cream.
