Located down the street from East Milton Sq, Brick and Beam is the old Villa Rosa that was a tired old local Italian eatery that had seen better days, a long, long time ago, so an update was inevitable, and what an update! You wouldn't even recognize the old place, completely renovated and looking fresh with a vibrant atmosphere. Upon entry there's a great little bar on your left with about 10 or 12 seats and a few dining tables, head down the stairs and the place opens up to an outstanding lower level that looks incredible. Gone is the dingy tired look, and in its place is great example of what can be accomplished if the bricks and beams are strong (its not just a clever title!) Nice decor and a beautiful solid wood U shaped bar dominate the left hand side and directly in front is a gathering table (kind of like a really long, oblong shaped high top table) where multiple people can pull up a seat and chat to anyone sitting there, i love this, a great place to just hang and have a few pints and if the mood strikes you order up a few apps. We sat at the bar and were served an excellent pint of Guinness and we ordered a plain cheese pizza. I figured i'd get plain cheese, that way i can actually taste the sauce and the crust and not be overwhelmed by a bunch of over powering toppings. The pizza didn't come out for long time, in fact we were ready to leave when it actually did, so we took it to go. I'm cutting this place a lot of slack as they have really just opened, the place was packed as most new places are, and of course everyone is still finding their feet from the hostess's to the bar staff, to the kitchen staff and the wait staff, i know how long it takes to hit your stride with a new restaurant, even when you have all seasoned pros' working it, and that's usually several months, but i'm not concerned about the slow pizza, and here's why... The manger/owner recognized our problem and came over and couldn't be more apologetic, he took care of the pizza cost and gave me his card to text him next time we headed over so he could comp us a little more. You won't fail with this kind of attention in customer relations. You recognize the issues and work to rectify, Brick and Beam i believe will be very successful if they continue on with this type of customer service, give them a few months, it will be worth it. The pizza itself was outstanding, delicious hand tossed crust, a robust tomato sauce that wasn't overpowering and topped with fresh cheese cooked to perfection, one of the best pizza's you'll find anywhere. Staff were awesome (of course many locals will recognize some of the staff from other restaurants) prices were reasonable and the menu is very nice and compact, i'm happy they made it small and didn't try to make everything under the sun, this will help in speeding up the service in the near future, don't do much but what you do, do it well....... Parking can be tough, especially on the weekend and i ended up parking quite a distance away, but it was worth it. Of note, the dessert is my all time favorite, didn't get chance to try it, but i'll be back for sure to sample Sticky Toffee Pudding with vanilla bean ice cream. My husband and I happened upon Brick and Beam after a long afternoon. It was pretty busy so we were told to grab 2 seats at a high top on the bar side. Josh was our server and he was great! He needs his own tv show! He is a fantastic server and a funny guy who made us feel very comfortable. The beers are cold!!! I had the mac n cheese which was AMAZING! Went for lunch the other day it was very good. My wife and I both had burgers cooked perfectly, served on a brooch roll, my personal favorite. It's always interesting to see how new owners revamp a restaurant (Villa Rosa) that had existed for so long. The revamp was a great success, it has the same basic layout but so much more, a must see. The menu is limited, more of a pub, lunch menu but all the food coming out of the kitchen looked great and the service was great. Will repeat visit , it's on my list of go to restaurants read more

Came to this restaurant, was told to wait for 45 minutes (no issue). After about 1 hour, the hostess told us our table was being cleaned off and then we would be seated. After about 15 more minutes, a group of 5 came in and was seated at the table they were cleaning for our group. We were finally seated after one and a half hours of waiting, with no silver ware or water. Our food was brought out eventually, and everyone of our entrees were cold. We never had a water refill and was never brought anything that we asked for that a reasonable restaurant would normally provide. Inside is very comfortable atmosphere. Me and my date ordered bbq pulled pork nachos for our app... they where delicious....BUT literally only had about 2 small bites worth of pork.... for 14$ (TOTAL rip off). Once I got my meal my steak was cold including my sides. The Server was nice, but service was very slow and it was not busy. After eating it took at least 25 mins just to have my card charged then the waiting time just to get it back.....a bit frustrating. This place could be a hit with prompter service. read more

I think this restaurant is terrible. I have gone many times and tried to give them many chances. I get pick up a lot due to Covid. The Mac and cheese is inedible Every time my sons burgers are alway under cooke the bacon well done. The roll is always soggy. My steak was cut up like I'm five and can't cut my own beef. I didn't get the potatoes that came with it and the broccoli was raw. I asked for no sauce and it was smothered. Got the fish and chip. The breading did not even stick to the fish. I spent 100$ for dinner 2 burgers 1rice bowl fish and chips and the b+b steak. I was sorely dissatisfied. I live down the street. Went about 2 weeks ago to meet my sister for dinner. Saturday around 630 there was a 20 minute wait; not bad at all. My sister and eye say at the long rectangle table with couples on either side of us. We got the pretzels with dipping sauces; cheese sauce was a little watered down but the pretzels were warm and mustard was tangy. I got the Mac and Cheese while my sister had a pizza. Mac and Cheese was very creamy and cheesy and had a great crumbles crust on top. The rectangle "community" table was great; the waitress thought the older couple next to my sister and I were our parents! While Villa Rosa was a great oldie restaurant but Brick and Beam will def. keep the crowd coming in! read more

Tried this place for the first time last night. First impression was that it had a great atmosphere. There's 2 bar areas with plenty of TVs to watch and tables are well placed throughout the dining room. We ordered the Bang Bang Cauliflower and Broccoli and it was delicious. Cooked to perfection with a light crisp and a good kick of heat with the spices. Would definitely order it again. I ordered the steak tips with their house seasoning and they were good. Only negative was that I asked for a medium cook and they were medium well. My boyfriend ordered the Blackened Chicken Pasta which was very tasty. We both love a good beer and their selections did not disappoint. We will definitely be returning as the menu had multiple items that we are looking forward to trying. read more

Food was fantastic! Was there at 7:30 on a Saturday night, able to get 2 seats at the bar right away. Bar staff very friendly and attentive! We split an order of steak tips and chicken fingers. They split the meal for us and gave us a hefty amount of food on each plate. Chicken fingers are probably the best I've had in a long time and dipping sauces were great too! I ordered Brick and Beam on Uber Eats last night and they mistakenly delivered one meal when I had ordered two. I called the restaurant and the manager apologized for the error, delivered the second meal himself, and brought a free bottle of wine for the trouble. Went to Brick&Beam last night. We were greeted by a nice gentleman as soon as we came in and were directed to the Hostess stand. After a short wait, we had an excellent meal that came out quickly. The Asparagus and pork sliders were delicious although I would have added some crispy Pancetta as an optional addition for the meat eaters. The Steak Tips & Chicken Parm were excellent. My wife ordered the Mac and Cheese and while it was delicious, the portion size was too small for an entree. Hopefully they will correct that ASAP. The fries were cooked properly and crunchy, its hard to get good fries these days. Overall, an excellent night at a new restaurant. read more

Where do I begin. Both hostesses were on their phone and laughing with each other instead of assisting customers. The hostess Emily was blatantly rude, rolling her eyes at us, and appearing annoyed to have to seat us. Our party was told we would be waiting 45 minutes and waited an hour and a half. When we were finally brought to our seat (by an incredibly rude Emily) we were shocked to find multiple empty tables that remained empty through the entire course of our meal. Food was cold. We never received refills on our water, had to request silver ware twice, and never received condiments we requested multiple times. Additionally our server never checked on us once throughout our meal, and the restaurant didn't have many items listed on the menu. Absolutely awful. read more

I was not impressed he first time I went to Brick and Beam, but they've completely upped their game, past few visits. At this point, I'd give them a five just on their burgers and beers alone. The service has improved, their standard burger I'll put in the top 3 that I've ever had in Boston, and the beer list is local, tastes fresh and served perfectly. I've been to Brick and Beam many times over the last couple of years. I liked it. Liked the menu. Liked the building. Wait staff did nothing I found egregious. But the last few times I've been there, I've seen a trend of the service sliding downhill, the menu being cut and a general attitude of "you're lucky you're here". The last time I went there, there were five of us. Three of us wanted a particular dish no longer on the menu. Ok, we'll order something else. I ordered a burger, medium rare. When I got it, it was well done. OK, let me tell the waitress. Look around for her, nowhere to be seen. Looked for her for five minutes (not exaggerating, at this point I'm pissed and I'm timing it). NO waitresses anywhere near us, as it's lunch time and we're sitting in the bar area. Finally, I get up and walk to the other dining room to ASK if someone can please go find our waitress. So if you're paying attention, you realize that this means nobody circled back and asked us if everything was ok. So here comes the waitress, I show her the burger and instead of apologizing, instead of asking me if I want a replacement, or something else, or whatever, she just takes it and leaves. Says NOTHING. About ten minutes later she comes back with another burger and yes it was cooked correctly but of course by this time, everyone else is done eating and I'm trying to catch up. OK, finally we are all ready to go and we're looking for a check. But where is our waitress? NOWHERE TO BE SEEN. AGAIN. So yes, if you are STILL paying attention, you realize that this means that even on round two, she did not circle back to ask if everything was ok. Finally, as another waitress (heretofore referred to as Waitress 2) asks if she can get us our check, waitress 1 comes running over, insisting she is on top of this, she's got it, no problem, blah blah blah. I'm watching this and thinking "oh yeah, you are ALL OVER IT. Where were you throughout this whole lunch?" So at the beginning of the lunch, we had told her that we wanted two checks, easy enough, one check for one side of the table, one check for the other side of the table. Our waitress, who has just insisted she is ALL OVER IT, now comes back with ONE check. We remind her we wanted two, she apologizes, first apology in the middle of this whole ordeal, and comes back with two checks. At this point, we were all very anxious to leave and get out of there. But where is she? Nowhere to be seen. And by the way, when I say "nowhere to be seen", I mean that quite literally. She was NOT taking care of customers in the main dining area. No idea WHERE she was. Again, we wait patiently till enough is enough and go ask someone to find her so we can pay and leave. She comes back, I fold my check around my credit card, the other credit card and check go in the carrier without a fold, and we hand it to her. She comes back with the wrong charge on each card. Party 1 gets charged for party two and vice versa. At this point, we look at it and there is simultaneous eye rolling followed by a chorus of "you've got to be kidding me". At this point, we have our coats on, we've been there for two hours, we just wanted a quick lunch and this is like an episode of "Candid Camera". So I do what feels like an obvious thing to do. I have been watching Waitress 2 leaning against the bar for five minutes, watching TV so I say "Miss?" She doesn't move. I repeat "Miss?" a little louder. She STILL does not move and doesn't look in my direction. So I say it louder still: "Miss?" she looks over, and I say "Can you help me please?" and her response is "You don't have to SCREAM at me, I'm right here." Wow. At this point, the whole table is outraged. And no, waitress two did NOT help. She went and got Waitress 1 who ASKED US TO EXPLAIN HOW SHE MESSED IT UP. She said "Oh, it would not have happened if you had kept the cards separate." I said "I had my check folded around my card, how separate do you want it to be?" The whole thing was ridiculous. So ridiculous that I asked for the manager and recounted all the details to him, in front of both waitresses. His response was for me to email him when I got home. Why? No idea. Got a response from him that I should let him know when I am going back again and they will make sure I get good service. So I guess that is how it works here, guys. If you want good service, make sure you email the manager, tell him you are coming and ask him if he thinks you will be able to get good service when you go. Or go, and take your chances. read more

I'm typically careful anytime I order salmon. The waitress did confirmed that it was fresh upon asked. She was absolutely correct. The salmon was great. I've been eating at the Brick and Beam for the better part of a year now, and although it's a great place to grab food and drinks with friends, there are a few things you should know before making this your option for a dinner service. One, never go on a game night, not even for drinks. I have accidentally ended up at Brick and Beam on two different occasions when they were filled to the brim with customers, and the service was terribly slow. In fact the service at B&B is pretty pathetic, waitresses/waiters typically only get your drinks once, food is always slow and everyone seems a little unbothered by the fact they are serving paying customers. I had one experience, out of maybe 30 where the waitress actually brought me a second beer. Me and all my friends who eat here have similar experiences. Anyways on to my second concern; DO NOT bring a date here for the first time. It is unbelievably loud in Brick and Beam, which actually I personally like, quiet places freak me out. I grew up with a lot of siblings and when we did go out, we always went to loud places like this, so I personally love that. My final note is that this place is not ambitious food wise. It has the same dishes as every other south shore uppity sports bar. The food is good however and fairly priced. Food doesn't have to be ambitious if it's not marketed as such, and this place is perfect for the Chicken Philly or the Nachos. I think B&B goes in my book as good, not great, not bad, a simple 3 stars. It's unbelievably average and the service is almost never astounding. That being said, if the owner/managers can figure out how to get their waitresses working instead of hanging out at the bar or hostess stand, I might give this place a 4 in the future. Soooo i drive by this place very often. Had a very spontaneous date night with my fiancé. Cozy family atmosphere. Friendly host that greeted and seated us right away. There was a special menu for Valentines day(i don't celebrate). We ordered from the regular menu. Menu was just right. Chicken, Pork, Beef or Seafood. Everything had its own touch to it. The drinks were great! Appetizers were delicious. Service was just fast enough. And our server was nice and quick and polite. I misread the menu and thought i ordered steak(the drinks were REALLY good. I asked to just switch my fries for mashed potatoes and i took away the bun. It's took a long time for the change of fries to potatoes to my order and during that time our waitress didn't check on us and two other waiters peeked around the corner to look at us. Idk what that was about but it made me think of the movie "Waiting" and what the employees did to the food sent back. My fiancé ate his chop and it was a lil over cooked. I played with mine(i was scared). Needless to say curiosity satisfied but we will not go back. Truly the choice is yours. read more
