What an amazing experience we just had at Brick House Gastro! Looking back, I'm so shocked they're not filled at every single table. Their decor is clean and beautiful, showing Caribbean art above. Their large booth style tables are perfect for any big group. We got to meet the owner and the chef. Such warm, welcoming people. The food is what kept me complimenting them however. The griot is the best I've ever had. It wasn't a hard fried texture I've had at other Haitian restaurants. It was made with more love in my opinion, and tender. Their plantains were a nice texture and hands down the best pikli I've ever tasted. The pikli was the perfect spice level. They were kind to my son who's a picky eater and made him a special fried chicken and fries. I've so so appreciative of their effort. My yelpies, please, let's make them grow!! We had a fantastic lunch here. We came in at noon, just as the restaurant was opening. We sat at the bar and met Princess, the bartender/server. We got very personal service. This is NOT a fast food place nor is it a Caribbean restaurant as some have said -- although there are a few items on the menu that are islandy. So plan on spending some time -- even at lunch -- as all the food is cooked to order by Chef Glen. We also met Glen. What a wonderfully exciting life he has lived. And we got to talk to him about his preparation of various items and things he likes (and may be adding to the menu in the future) as they get known. From the current lunch menu, we selected two items. I chose their griot appetizer-- which is marinated and fried pork chunks. It came with plantains. The appetizer portion was more than large enough to have as my lunch -- in fact, I took half home for later. The plantains were some of the best I've ever had. Done like tostones -- smashed and fried -- they were flavorful. And the pork meat was tender and tasty inside with a crispy exterior. My husband had their shepherd's pie. Oh my goodness. This was excellent. It was full of ground black angus beef in a savory sauce topped with creamy mashed potatoes. The preparation is intricate and time consuming. You could taste the various herbs used. It was a generous portion served piping hot. As we'd talked to Glen also about their fish and chips dish, he was nice enough to prepare a small piece of cod fish so my husband could try it. The batter was light and crispy. It too was very very good. This place is a sleeper right now. If you have some time to linger, check them out for lunch while they are currently not that busy. Chef Glen is quite talented. It was a nice stop back at a place I used to go to, when it was a different place. That doesn't make sense but it's one of those spots you used to go to and they changed the ownership and menu. We were in the neighborhood doing some rock climbing so after a hard cardio morning a celebratory beverage was in order. This spot used to be one of my favorite spots long ago(different restaurant though) so since it was across the road it seemed sensible to stop in and see what the new place was about. At 1ish it wasn't busy at all yet and we got a solid parking g space. It used to be packed at the bar but we were the only ones. There were people at the outside tables and a few tables though. I got a Moscow mule but they ran out of ginger beer the night before. "There was a huge Haitian party last night with 1500 people so we are out of a couple things" the bartender mentioned. I was glad the new Caribbean menu and vibe as paying off. Being a when-in-Rome kinda guy we ordered Malanga Fritters (Haitian Akra). This is a crunchy appetizer that is common throughout Haiti. We figured every fritter is pretty good. And we were right again this case. The Akra fritter was a little spicy but plenty good. Watch out with the small salad they put in the middle, it's crazy spicy. We were only on for a bit but I definitely want to come back. I don't even know another Haitian restaurant and club in the area and the vibes were very chill. Note, they still have the beautiful stamped copper bar, it is a beautiful piece. read more

This is not a gastro kitchen. We came for happy hour and it was bad. The sliders and shrimp took 25 minutes. Both overcooked which is hard to even imagine let alone eat. I'm not sure how but even the Guinness lacked dimension. This spot was bought by new owners before Gastro opened and it's unfortunate they kept the name as it is terribly misleading. read more

I'm a travel nurse on assignment in the area. I saw this place from the road and decided to stop in. I sure am glad that I did! First of all, you are greeted and made to feel very welcome. Secondly, the interior is really nicely appointed. I sat at the bar and had a couple of drinks and the cajun shrimp app which came with fries. I was not expecting that but it was a nice surprise. The parking lot was empty, and the place was pitch black inside. I was pissed to say the last cause I was extremely hungry, looking to enjoy some fantastic Haitian food. But I was denied. A horrible bartender with ear pods should have been the first clue. Place was dead and I now know why. Seemed very pricey for it location and ambiance. But thought I would try anyway. But the ATTITUDE from the bartender was shocking. She could care less that there was no business. She was on her phone, rude, no charm and seemed annoyed we walked in. Our family was staying in an AirBNB within walking distance of the restaurant and decided to try this place during its "soft opening." We're so glad we did! The inside has a nice atmosphere and the staff was pleasant. The chef stopped by the table near us a few times (he seemed to know the guests) but he was warm and friendly with us when my husband caught his eye. The food was delicious! My husband and I shared the Haitian fritay. The flavors were fantastic. Even my picky 10year old son loved the parts of our meal he tried. He also loved the sliders he ordered. We ended the meal with the salted caramel brownie and weren't disappointed. I expect this place to do well as word spreads. read more

This was a disappointing food experience. We went at lunchtime and the server told us that there were only a few items available off of the menu. I order the burger. It was a mediocre burger, was over cooked, and it was overpriced. They charged $3 to put a slice of cheese on the burger. The building looks as if it is an Irish pub on the outside, but it has been repurposed to a Haitian nightclub/restaurant. read more

Good food! Don't let the name fool you. This place has a great Haitian touch. If you're looking for something straight forward like a bacon cheeseburger or if you're going for a little more specialty like Griot; they're going to be good. The menu is a little bit limited but everyone in our large group was extremely satisfied with their selection. Came in with a large group and there was only 1 server working. And even then the service was great. Our food came out pretty fast too! They're still ironing out the kinks that come with being a new place so be patient. Give this place a shot! read more

Loved it here. The place itself is very appealing to the eye, especially the bar! The music playing in the background ranged from hits from the 80s to around 2020, but wasn't too loud. It is a bit cold here so bring a cardigan! The drinks kinda tasted watered down, especially the cranberry juice. The prices are pretty average for a nice restaurant like this, but if you're looking for a really cheap meal, I wouldn't say this is the place for you. But if you're looking for quality food and BIG portions, this is the place! I shared the griot pork dinner with a friend because it was so much food. All the pictures except for the long plate (appetizer) are what you get with the griot dinner, and coming at around $30, it is definitely worth it. If you're Haitian or wanting to try food from other cultures, you can't go wrong with this one. They also have other options like pastas, sandwiches, wings, etc. My only inquiry is whether or not they serve dessert, I didn't get the chance to ask. Wanted to try something new. Although I have been in this building many times, first as Buddy Early then as stout. Now a completely different than Irish style of food with a Haitian flair. I enjoyed the griot (pork) appetizer which was very good. My companion enjoyed the goat dish with several sides that I cannot remember the name of but ate over half of so they were good. Service was very attentive. Appetizer came out after the meal but that worked out for me because my husband was already enjoying his goat which left me free to wolf down the entire appetizer. We stopped in with a large group. They were very accommodating. The restaurant was very clean with a nice atmosphere. It appeared to have been newly renovated. The food was outstanding. We had everything from staples on the menu, e.g. wings to the specials of the day. Highly recommend this for families, groups or couples.
