Great food and good service!! We ended up here on a whim the other evening because some other plans fell through. We weren't mad about the change of plans though! To start we had a couple of beers alongside the spinach dip appetizer. We kept trying to stop eating it but we couldn't, it was soooo good!! Ended up eating nearly every bite before our entrees arrived. For the mains, I had a perfectly cooked bacon cheeseburger and my boyfriend ordered a delicious (and I mean it, delicious) truffle butter New York strip! We both cleaned our plates. The staff was not the friendliest. Anytime you speak to me without looking at me, I can only assume it's not authentic. And that happened a couple of times. Not from the waiter though. He was ok. I had the bacon burger before but not on this visit. It was a typical restaurant burger. Big though. Got the steak tacos this time. They werent good. Had way too many bell peppers in them. . The steak quesadilla the same. Too many bell peppers and too greasy. My biggest knock on this restaurant are the prices. The food quality doesn't justify the prices. My dad ordered the strawberry mojito which was not good at all, he sent it back and traded it for a Mango mojito which was great. As an app we ordered the fried calamari. It was fried perfectly with plenty of flavor. Slightly too much salt and pepper for my taste but still tasty. Was plenty to share between the two of us. For the Entrees I ordered the Blackened Mahi Mahi. Not going to lie the first time I had fish with grits but wow! Was this a great combo. I cleaned my plate. The kale was fresh and light seasoned with fresh garlic and shreds of cheese mixed in.My ordered the Pulled Pork Sandwich, from the piece I tried it was really good well seasoned and tangy. The bread was buttery and toasted well, the only drawback which my father agreed with me on was the fact that some of the meat was clumped together.Btw there honey mustard is amazing. Brick does not offer reservations, which was my only concern. However, the food and drinks for brunch are absolutely worth the risk of not getting sat right away! A problem I have often at brunch spots is whether I want crab cakes or steak on my eggs benedict. This is the first time I've seen a restaurant order a "surf and turf" benedict with one steak medallion benedict and one crab cake benedict! Their breakfast cocktails are delicious as well. Thought it was time to update my review. The Brick is still one of my favorite go-to restaurants in the area. Who doesn't love eating in Avondale and outside in this lovely Fall weather? If you can snag a table outside, definitely get one or [like us] wait the short 25 minutes at the bar until your buzzer lets you know that one has come available. Our hostess was very friendly and told us it shouldn't be too long. It's absolutely worth the wait... We went on a Friday night and there was a wonderful jazzy-type band playing old-school hits from Prince to Stevie Wonder to Cameo toned down a notch, but terrific background music while we got our drink on. Perfect spot for Date Night. My boy got a light Intuition on draft after sampling it and I opted for my usual Glenlivet 12 on the rocks ($8.50). Our bartender was attentive and friendly even though she was pretty busy serving others. This time around, I ordered the Goat & Beet Salad [kale, avocado, heart of palm, leek, garbanzo beans, slivered almond, carrot, fried goat cheese and champagne vinaigrette: $13]. And he ordered the Bacon Burger with a loaded baked potato [beef, bacon, cheddar with lettuce, tomato, pickles & onion: $14]. Both dishes were excellent and we enjoyed the heck out of our meals. That fried medallion of warm goat cheese was crispy on the outside and just heavenly on the inside. The burger was juicy and tender. I thought the portions were exactly perfect and the flavors were very well balanced. Although I didn't have room, John [our waiter who was fabulous] brought us a dessert menu and recommended the Key Lime Pie ($7) or the Pecan Apple Bread Pudding ($8). I opted for the latter to-go with a scoop of ice cream. I will enjoy this dessert heated up with a cup of coffee later today... Overall, you really can't go wrong if you choose to dine at The Brick. I've only had wonderful food here and the service is consistently great. And although some of the menu items can be pricier than other places, I recommend it for the sheer ambiance and quality of their dishes. read more

Tried this place and wish I hadn't. We went for brunch and service was insanely slow and once we got our food I was repulsed.

Whether it's a work lunch or a special occasion this place never disappoints and that's why it is one of my favorite places to eat in the area.They have a fantastic happy hour. I would like to try something different but can never pass up the shrimp & grits appetizer for my meal and pair it with the best kale salad in town. read more

This has to be my absolute favorite restaurant. Great service, great atmosphere and as always great food.

Avondale is such a wonderful patio destination for eating and bringing your furrie friend. Freedom and I came here Friday night and were politely welcomed on their outside area. Two young ladies with their dog were sat just prior to us. Within moments, the hostess brought out two stainless bowls of water for each dog. Talk about caring and being welcoming! My server was so nice and I apologize for not getting her name. I ordered a Woodford Reserve Old Fashion that was amazingly made. I started with Ahi Tuna on crackers (daggone I forgot to get a pice). It was delicious. Large pieces of ahi on large triangle crackers with a neat Asian sauce lightly drizzled on it. I really enjoyed it and highly recommend it. It would be a great sharing appetizer. I then had the Wagyu Burger with broccoli. The broccoli was really nice and fresh. The Wagyu Burger was fantastic. Cooked rare to order and simply dressed. A great burger without all the extras often added to a burger. All in all, a wonderful outdoor dinner with gracious service, dog friendly, and delightful food. Highly recommended. read more

I came in one night that happened to be a Wednesday Ladies Night. $5 off wine & drinks from a list. So we decided on Steele Chardonnay which paired with many types of food in the menu. Wanting to eat light and to make room for wine, my friend and I decided to share Mahi Fish Tacos and a wedge salad. There were 2 fish tacos in the dish with Coleslaw for the side. Great combination. The lettuce on the Wedge was fresh, topped with Blue Cheese and bacon. Both were perfect with the Chardonnay. Chris L was our server & he was great! So patient and knowledgeable. The atmosphere was relaxing and lively. Bet it's livelier on Thursday nights with live music. Been there once on a Thursday and it was great. We had a nice Ladies Night evening. We've been wanting to head over to Avondale for a while so we finally took a drive. Walking around the small town, we decided to try this restaurant. They have outdoor seating which is nice on the warm sunny days and plenty of room inside. The decor reminds me of a modern loft. We got seated promptly although the host could've been a little more friendly. Our server Krystaha was super nice and gave us plenty of time to make our decisions. I chose the Warm Turkey Sandwich with a side of sweet potato fries. My husband ordered the Steak Tacos with regular fries. My sandwich was phenomenal however the sweet potato fries could've used a bit more seasoning. My husband's steak tacos were kind of underwhelming; two small tacos with not that much inside of them and his fries just looked meh. went to the brick for something different. It has been a long time since I've been there. TJ was a waiter and he did a great job. He was knowledgeable about the wine selection, food, the menu and he had a good sense of humor. We started off with the CARAMELIZED BRIE & BREAD. Very tasty. The bread was nice and soft. They gave you enough bread so you were not having too much cheese and not enough bread or vice versa. I had the soup and salad (Caesar salad) with the seafood chowder. The salad was good, the chowder was very good but could have had a bit more seafood in it. Tasty but needed a bit more. Ok, I finished it. Becky had the shrimp and grits. Normally I put grits in the same category as wallpaper paste or Paper-mâché. I'm not a big fan. She had the bacon and cheese added to it for an additional charge. The shrimp and grits came in a tortilla bowl so you can eat the bowl with the shrimp and grits. Nice big shrimp were in the grits. I tried it and remember I'm not a big fan of grits. After trying it, I would order this for my entre. it was really good, lots of flavor, lots of shrimp, not like wall paper paste at all. Eating the bowl was a great touch so you can have the crunchiness of the bowl and the good flavor of the shrimp and grits. I've visited The Brick on several occasions and was surprised that I hadn't added a review! The exterior is very eye catching - and given the neighborhood, that's an accomplishment. The Brick has one of the best locations in Jax. On the corner of St Johns & Ingleside - right in the heart of Avondale. There's a light at the corner, but everyone rides their brake and looks in as they drive through. It's a place to be seen - especially if you're lucky enough to grab an outside table. Inside is very open, with exposed brick and interesting artwork. The bar is quite long and well separated from table seating. Weekends they offer live entertainment and on my last visit, we were lucky to hear a wonderful guitarist, Goliath, playing on a Thursday. Dinner on each visit has been quite good. I've tried their porterhouse porkchop, French dip sandwich & steak salad. All were very tasty. The bleu cheese dressing that I had with the steak salad was the best I've had in ages! read more

I was walking the strip and noticed the intriguing exterior of this restaurant so I decided to stop in for lunch. I ordered the chai rum toddy first. I don't know what I was expecting, but the drink came in a hot tea form. I had never had warm/hot liquor, but I decided to try it anyway. I don't think the drink was made incorrectly, but it wasn't for me. I ended up ordered the sangria also, and that was much more my style. My lunch was the turkey sandwich on ciabatta with a side of broccoli. It was very good, although expensive. The entire meal for two (2 of the same sandwich & those two drinks) totaled over $70. We have eaten often at Brick over the years and enjoyed the food & atmosphere there. However, after the poor service and rude treatment by the manager tonight, we will never return. Our party of 7 waited over an hour just to get drinks. As we watched smaller parties get seated, served & depart, we asked our waitress what was happening with our dinner order. Before long, some woman came out, without identifying herself, and rudely said that our dinners would be out when they were ready. She made excuses that they were short staffed, then turned in a huff & left. We were all dumbfounded by this aggressive & uncalled-for behavior. This place is always one of our go-to spots in the neighborhood. Casual but also upscale, it's a very versatile restaurant. Service is almost always top notch. Holly makes our drinks at the bar and is always so personable. Christie and Tina always treat us so well at our table. The negatives are that the prices on some of the items are a bit higher than what they need to be. The price for shrimp and grits is really high, and bottles of wine are pretty expensive. But overall, it's a great atmosphere with great staff and we will be back! read more

We wanted to try this restaurant out for a long time. Heard many great things and it's close to home; almost walking distance. The quesadilla appetizer was pretty good but we were pretty famished so not sure if that made a difference. The steak tacos were pricey for two small tacos and to be honest, I didn't bother finishing my glazed salmon. The salmon was meh and I only took it home to eventually throwing it in the trash. Overall, the service was great, the ambiance was okay but the food was mediocre and the dishes overpriced. We probably won't be back bc there are too many options in Jacksonville. I don't see this place lasting long unless they did a menu overhaul. read more
