There is a bar area that opens at 4:00 and they offer happy hour appetizers and drinks. If you are lucky, Rachel will wait on you as she is the bomb! We also had the salmon, with spinach, sun dried tomatoes, and goat cheese over a mushroom mixture, savory and great mix. I didn't like that![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Ordered drinks, appetizers and our meal. The restaurant wasn't half full and it took just over an hour to get our food. The prices are $25 to $60 for your meal not counting drinks and appetizers. So be prepared to spend over $100 for a couples meal. Food presentation was spot on, all the food brought out was delicious. As an appetizer we tried the Korean short ribs. Delish and as a main meal tried the wagyu meatloaf with mashed potatoes. Delish. Met up with friends for a fun date night and kicked things off with some delicious cocktails. To start, we ordered the Three Cheese Asiago bread--and wow, that bread was amazing! It would've been a nice touch if it were complimentary, but we couldn't complain. For the mains, I went with the pork chop, while my wife chose the mixed grill curry. This visit was prompted by an email I got from the restaurant offering a free glass of Caymus wine with any dinner purchase on the patio. Well who could say no to "free wine" especially Caymus. I've probably been here 20xs over the past few yrs. & almost always sit at the bar because I love their wine selections by the glass. I also love the fact that they do a 6 ounce and 9 ounce pour. When I sit at the bar & I usually just get an appetizer. The dish was quite a good portion of tuna. I enjoyed the dish but I felt the tuna quality could have been a little better. Fresh quality sashimi just has such a good taste hard to find these days. My dining companions had the Thai coconut mixed grill and the salmon. The salmon was prepared gluten free for my friend. She said it was excellent . The dish really looked beautiful. This is a beautiful restaurant with a bar and multiple dining rooms. I had reservations for 4:30 PM and when I arrived, I asked about the happy hour. I was happy to hear that I could enjoy the happy hour specials from the bar or in any dining room, so I decided to keep my reservation and sat in the front dining area. Our server, Casey, greeted us and took our orders promptly. I chose a Sauvignon Blanc wine from Ghost Block and ordered the Korean barbecue ribs with a side of fries and a Caesar salad. I had tried the ribs at a Yelp event last year and wanted to have them again. Although they were still tasty, they weren't as good as they were at the event. Our server was attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. We decided to have dessert as well, and the doughnut bread pudding was absolutely stunning and delicious. In terms of the quality of the entrees, SoNapa is one of my favorite places for a pricier meal in the area. It's clear that the kitchen cares about the quality of the products that are coming out. The ambiance is also wonderful with multiple dining areas and a quiet room in the back called the "barrel room" that you can request with your reservation. This is a hard one to write. Let's be clear it has nothing to do with the food as it was amazing. This is a story of sitting at the bar and being discounted and ignored. Upon arrival on a drizzly Friday night we were excited to see two patrons paying and leaving 3 open spots at the bar. Bars are our favorite places. We sat for what seemed like an extended time with dirty dishes and debris before us. Finally a bar tender dropped menus and began to clean our area. This is where the story gets interesting. The gentleman to my right obviously a regular was advised that the evening special had been saved for him. Just let me know when you want me to put it in. Hello.. we are ready to order and never a mention of nightly special. Guess you have to be special to get the special! But no order for us.. not before we chat with another regular about a 1/15 party. Oh and then there was the other regular that we overheard the conversation and needed an invite. Hello.. can we order Finally order taken.. son orders entree and a side salad.. Time goes on and salad is dropped and Nano seconds later entrees are dropped. No time to eat or enjoy salad. My entree salad needed more dressing but not once were we approached by a bartender/server to ask how our meal was. Finally I got the eye of a server and asked for additional dressing. Time goes on and would love another cocktail but we are still talking about the party on 1/15.. order finally happens and 2nd cocktails served. During this time a couple arrives who really thought they were entitled to our seat one was vacant and the other occupied by my son. We then were subjected to keys being banged on counter. Wine glasses being separated into our area and a helicopter on our back.. This was the most absurd dining experience I have had in a very long time. Perhaps "SoNapa" should become a private club so there front of house staff can fixate on their favorites. The bison bolognese was served on what tasted like house-made fresh pasta! A definite plus but what should have been a great dish was ruined by too much salt. We LOVE salty food but this was over the top! If you have any BP or kidney problems, beware of the salt!! The Korean rib appetizer also looked so inviting-- glistening and nicely presented. But again, waaaayyyyy to salty. Tender but deadly salty. I wish I could say that one of the dishes we ordered was good... but the meatloaf although not salty was totally dry. We went for an early dinner and there was actually a reasonable size crowd there. We were in time for the end of happy hour which meant 1/2 off drinks but the food deals were only available if you were sitting at the bar. That was ok with us as we wanted to try the dinner. Looking at the menu, I thought that the maple ginger sirloin sounded delicious. When I ordered it, I inquired about sides that could be substituted for the mashed potatoes. The waitress mentioned that the parmesan risotto was her favorite side so I went with that. My dining partner ordered the special that night - caprese triggerfish with burrata ravioli. We started with the three cheese asiago bread. We were both disappointed with our entrees. The steak was very bland. The menu mentioned that it was marinated in maple, ginger, and soy , none of which could be tasted. I asked the waitress for a sauce and she brought out a jus, which suffered from a lack of seasoning as well. I ended up bringing it home and eating it the next night with sauce from the refrigerator. One thing that was good about the steak was the cook. They achieved my requested doneness. The special of the day had over cooked fish but the pasta was good. The asiago bread needed more cheese in my opinion or maybe I was just expecting a gooey, pulling cheese with the three cheese description. Although the meal didn't begin well, it ended on a high note. Dessert was the best part of my meal. I thoroughly enjoyed the pineapple upside down cake. The cake was moist and sweet. Service was good for us except our server dropped off the accompaniments to the cheese bread with no explanation and another sever kept bumping my chair on his way to the kitchen, which was annoying. The space that was formerly Roy's has benefitted from some nice upgrades. Unfortunately the food overall didn't justify the prices to us. This was my first visit to SoNapa. Went with a friend to enjoy happy hour, they were quite busy. Sat at one of the high tops in the bar, it took a little long for us to be greeted, another table sat after us and was greeted first, that's the only negative I have as once the server came to the table the service was excellent. Started with a glass of Seghesio Red Zinfandel, Sonoma County, it was a nice full body Zin. We split the Bacon wrapped scallops, edamame potstickers, Knights Valley flatbread (Steak, mozzarella and blue cheese, red onions, balsamic reduction). They all were excellent, the scallops were on the smaller size but delicious. The flatbread had a nice tangy blue cheese, The edamame potstickers were very unique and I enjoyed the sauces on the plate.
